"Why a transwomen thinks self ID is a mistake " a well argued column makes the case from a different point of view

It is easy to forget or overlook the fact that not all trans people support self ID or think it is a remotely good idea. Well worth a read some food for thought. Clearly the mere existence of this column by a trans woman shows that the argument all who oppose self ID are transphobic is highly dubious.

I really don't care, do you?

by Anonymousreply 1March 12, 2020 12:36 AM

You posted r1 so I suggest you do....at least a little.

by Anonymousreply 2March 12, 2020 12:37 AM

Self ID is insane. Who came up with the idea in the first place? Self-ID, more than any other element to do with trans, is what's causing practical problems in the real world.

by Anonymousreply 3March 12, 2020 12:38 AM

Imagine if the real world obsessed about Trans as much as Datalounge

by Anonymousreply 4March 12, 2020 12:40 AM

The idea that you become something simply by identifying as it is magical thinking. Lisa Nandy, who is running for leadership of the Labour Party in the UK, said rapists should be put in women's prisons if they identify as transgender - because we have to believe people are what they say they are. I wonder how Nandy would react if she needed surgery, and some random person wandered into the hospital and announced, "I'm a surgeon!"

by Anonymousreply 5March 12, 2020 12:44 AM

R4 It's not Datalounge. It's a few obsessive feminists from the UK that only want us to talk about this one topic. Muriel has started purging the clearly unhinged ones and I'm fully behind her on that.

by Anonymousreply 6March 12, 2020 1:04 AM

Caitlyn on Mrs. Brown's Boys.

Caitlyn is a beloved role model for those UK & USA feminists.

r4 If the world had in recent years been like datalounge and discussed and considered the trans issue more then I don't think we would have reached the stage we have now with self ID and other over the top legislative changes and ideas being treated and pushed as they are now.

by Anonymousreply 8March 12, 2020 1:28 AM

Does "Surviving Angel" post anything BUT some UK-inspired trans-themed threads?

by Anonymousreply 9March 12, 2020 1:31 AM

No. It's her Madeline Ashton. I've been telling y'all.

by Anonymousreply 10March 12, 2020 1:32 AM

All this trans-hating bullshit is just another way to move people toward the alt-right, same as SJW hating, and bitching about woke this and that. It's all the same Nazi propaganda.

by Anonymousreply 11March 12, 2020 1:34 AM

Might be an improvement.

by Anonymousreply 12March 12, 2020 1:34 AM

R12 Wrong thread. Ignore.

by Anonymousreply 13March 12, 2020 1:34 AM

And it sounded REALLY bad after R11's.

by Anonymousreply 14March 12, 2020 1:35 AM

Yes r9 I do.Plenty of different thread topics.

by Anonymousreply 15March 12, 2020 1:38 AM

r11 It is actually attitudes like YOURS that are enabling the alt right. Wake up and smell the coffee instead of trying to make some topics no go zones for debate.

by Anonymousreply 16March 12, 2020 1:40 AM

R16 But Helen dear we've already had the debate and we by and large agree trans politics have gone too far and are hurting gay/lesbian rights. Why do we have to keep having multiple threads a day on this topic and bumping ones from months and years back?

by Anonymousreply 17March 12, 2020 1:44 AM

R16, bullshit. It's noting but right-wing recruitment. We've seen this same shit on DL for years.

by Anonymousreply 18March 12, 2020 1:49 AM

There's coffee? I don't smell coffee... just the usual Datalounge scent of " freshly washed hole"

by Anonymousreply 19March 12, 2020 1:52 AM

r17 Well debates are never fully done and dusted forever are they? That would be foolishly complacent to think otherwise.

But actually it is more than a small minority on datalounge who disagree that trans rights have gone too far.

by Anonymousreply 20March 12, 2020 1:57 AM

Wrong r18 you are misguided if you think not debating this issue and the laws being pushed by trans lobbyists will defeat the alt right.

by Anonymousreply 21March 12, 2020 1:59 AM

R21 Explain to me how these trans lobbyists got all this power. They are a fraction of one percent of the population. Who is backing them?

by Anonymousreply 22March 12, 2020 2:07 AM

R22 No no no no don't ask. She'll start talking about the Pritzker family. Don't.

by Anonymousreply 23March 12, 2020 2:08 AM

It's 100% true though. You have to look at LGBT fundraising and charity allocations. You have to look at who is sitting on the boards of these orgs and when the 'takeover' started happening. It's riveting stuff but a rabbit hole. Which explains her current condition. Yes, the pharmaceutical lobby is involved and there's globally hundreds of millions going into it each year.

They fundraise off scaring everyone will bullshit statistics extrapolated from Central and South American countries. In the United States and UK trans are one of the safest populations. Factors like prostitution matter but even so-- if you're white and trans in America you can basically do what you want like pepper spraying someone at a Gamestop.

It's all too much.

by Anonymousreply 24March 12, 2020 2:17 AM

After following them for a few years now I'm completely fatigued by trans topics, "terfs" and tras all together. I don't think I actually care anymore lol. They can all piss off!

by Anonymousreply 25March 12, 2020 2:29 AM

I'm a radical leftist male who thinks self-ID and opening some women's sports to trans competitors infringes on the rights of females. If a male wants to identify and live as a woman, I don't see why they should not be allowed to, but there are certain areas where biological sex categories matter.

by Anonymousreply 26March 12, 2020 2:36 AM

I don't care if they self identify, if you've got half a brain you can spot them from a mile away. I don't need them to tell me that they're trans, the fact that they're six feet tall women with adam's apples is proof enough. You don't need trans self identification when you've got two working eyes.

by Anonymousreply 27March 12, 2020 2:44 AM

Ditto, R26. But to claim that .03% of the population. is taking over and that they are a goldmine for Big Pharma hurts my statistics brain. Unless they’re using the same teleportation/holographic technology that makes earth look round and keeps ocean liners from falling off the edge.

by Anonymousreply 28March 12, 2020 2:44 AM

R28 Clearly you haven't been paying attention to the exponential increase in pediatric gender clinic referrals over the years. How does your statistic brain reckon with that? Will you do any research before replying?

by Anonymousreply 29March 12, 2020 2:48 AM

Everything for these TRAs is "Trans hating" now like R11... Telling what these trans/TRAs extremists do is not "trans hating", exposing the rampant misogyny and homophobia from that regressive ideology is not "hate"... The T brigade is destroying themselves for what they doing and that's not "hate"... You need to shut up and accept the fact that shit ideology is Homophobic, Misogynistic/Sexist and Anti-biology in their core and this is not "hate", just facts... Also just by the fact that they're redefining Sexual Orientation for "Genital Preferences" is disgusting.

by Anonymousreply 30March 12, 2020 2:49 AM

r30 The word transphobic has become meaningless because they throw it around so liberally.

by Anonymousreply 31March 12, 2020 3:01 AM

R29 Is this a U.K. thing? I’m in the U.S. and don’t know ANYONE whose kid had sex reassignment. The only place I see trans people is at LGBT events. There just are not very many of them, but they probably avoid being visible in public where I live because that would be downright dangerous for them.

by Anonymousreply 32March 12, 2020 3:19 AM

R32 It's a global thing, but especially prevalent in the U.K and U.S. In Iran I think they just castrate you and send you home with an icepack. Joke. But look that up, too.

The Pritzker family that I mentioned before is involved with pediatric gender clinics along with many wealthy entrepreneurs. Jennifer, formerly James, whose brother was recently involved in a scandal as a Democratic candidate that involved ripping the toilets out of his mansion to avoid paying property taxes, is trans and involved with this as a philanthropic pursuit.

In essence, it's become a lucrative industry for those invested to tell (mostly) gay and lesbian children they're actually the opposite sex and advocating publicly for a pathway of GnRH agonists (puberty blockers) which results in nearly 100% of children going on to hormone therapy and possible surgery. Interestingly, those experiencing what is diagnosed as gender dysphoria that are not prescribed puberty blockers desist at something like a 90% rate and grow up to be normal gay and lesbian adults. The dysphoria resolves itself in most cases. Once you are put on them however, there is almost a 100% chance you will proceed with other drugs and surgery options. This is why the notion of "trans kids" is so important. I'm not saying there are no trans people and that they weren't born that way-- but there is crossover and confusion about gender dysphoria and sexual orientation especially within a society's expectations and norms. I remember when I figured out that I was gay as a kid I thought it was "wrong" because boys are supposed to be attracted to girls. It would have been much easier to have been a girl. There has been some embrace by the fundamentalist Xtian community for trans people in a way that is not extended to gays and lesbians.

I can see an incentive for certain forces that are backing this movement, can you? Are you aware these drugs, developed for cancer treatment and are relatively new to the market result in infertility/sterilization? Has the United States had a history of such programs meant to curb a population?

This is why gay men and lesbians should, at least, do the research before being taken in so easily by the current dogma espoused by trans activists and gay men that have not done the research or are being paid to promote the myth of a unified "LGBTQ" coalition.

But yeah, flat earth or whatever. Look some of this stuff up. Question why getting to the real statistics for your statistics brain is somewhat of an obstacle. Make your decision from there.

by Anonymousreply 33March 12, 2020 3:28 AM

And I /really/ don't want to keep talking about it on ad nauseam here, Helen. I'm with R25.

by Anonymousreply 34March 12, 2020 3:31 AM

*ad nauseam on here. Goodnight.

by Anonymousreply 35March 12, 2020 3:32 AM

Good thoughtful post r33

I identify as your house cat, I expect you to take me home and spoil me rotten.

I identify as wealthy, which requires banks to extend me credit without collateral.

I identify as a law-abiding citizen, let me out of prison.

I identify as 21 and hot, if you don't want to fuck me you're transbeautyphobic!

Julie Bindel always sounds a little crazy. “We became friends, and my article was published to great acclaim.”

by Anonymousreply 40March 12, 2020 10:17 AM

She's perfectly sane and she knows it, R40; that's what seems to be bothering you. "Be kind, women. Be good, women. Obey, women." Nah, Julie ain't having it.

by Anonymousreply 41March 12, 2020 12:44 PM

Don't need bitter, hateful, and jealous old biddies.

by Anonymousreply 42March 12, 2020 3:12 PM

I don't get why it matters, trans people are easy enough to spot without them screaming it in your face (as they often do). It isn't as if this will allow them to blend in completely with normal men and women. If you're not a complete idiot, then trust me, you'll notice them. They stick out like sore thumbs.

by Anonymousreply 43March 12, 2020 3:14 PM

Most seem to be mentally unstable people and they have very high suicide rates, indicating that this is a mental health issue best addressed by psychiatrists and not by endocrinologists.

by Anonymousreply 44March 12, 2020 4:03 PM

r40 What makes you think Julie Bindel is insane on the trans issue?
