She needs to be released. In a world where the GOP treats refusals to appear as marks of honor, this poor dear doesn't deserve the grief.
Living in a wannabe totalitarian state is rough.
And R1 has contracted a disease of his own making.
Good.

I totally agree, R2.

Are people here saying fuck you to a person who had the balls to face execution to show the killings of civilians on a senseless war for oil and the sole responsible to leak thousands of documents proving that the American government still meddles into every country's democracies for personal gain and profit?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | March 11, 2020 11:50 PM |
[quote] He's a fucking traitor to this country.
Next time you cry Russian troll and whine that Russia is trying to interfere with our democracy, remember this woman had the balls to produce documented evidence America is doing the same to everyone else. The fact anyone here calls this woman a traitor, tells me most Americans are as brainwashed as the Chinese they love to mock. Original DLers knew better.
Between prime all day and this type of comment, this message board really is going to shit.

R23 I must be. I'm a happy moron though. I'm focused on positive outcomes that can be achieved through smart government and trustworthy servants. Snowden showed himself to be an untrustworthy one.
Manning is a homophobe that assaulted a female coworker and called her a dyke in emails. I'm okay with my dimwittedness by comparison.

by Anonymous | reply 34 | March 12, 2020 4:13 AM |
He’s in jail for refusing to testify. It is a situation completely of his own doing, a choice Manning willingly made. In the meantime he’s been using his incarceration as an excuse to raise lots and lots of money, ostensibly for his “legal defense”.
He’s a deeply disturbed, mentally ill man with several public suicide attempts under his belt. He also has a history of being violent towards women. I don’t wish him any harm but it’s clear he’s unstable and some kind of institutionalization is the best thing for him.

This is sad, but the way she looks I just can imagine her trying to commit suicide like Sissy Spacek in a Crimes of the Heart, but unsuccessfully hanging herself from a chandelier, or sticking her head in the oven, deciding not to do it, but hitting her head and knocking herself out anyways.

She's mentally unstable and was long before she got tossed in jail for refusing to testify against that odious Russian prick Assange.
I find it quite telling that we have several active Bernie Bots on this board currently who immediately will claim Chelsea and Snowden are "heroes" when they are in fact dupes at best and Russian spies at worst.
Look at where Snowden has been living since he spilled the beans. That isn't an accident. It's unbelievable that people can continue to claim he's some sort of martyr when he made a beeline for Russia after leaking classified intel and continues to spread propaganda from exile.
Chelsea seems less innocent and more a deluded individual. She needs therapy and institutionalization, but because she's trans she has gotten a steady dose of support for all her delusions, because to dismiss one is to dismiss all, in her case. The suicide isn't a cry for help, it's a cry for attention.
She had her second chance when Obama commuted her sentence on compassionate grounds, and since then she has done nothing but make us ALL regret it. Currently she is back in jail in a situation - like before - entirely of her own making, for refusing to testify as to what she knows about that nasty narcissist Assange. She thinks she's being some sort of martyr by refusing to testify, but she is just showing she hasn't learned a goddamn thing.
She doesn't need hormones, she needs deprogramming.

by Anonymous | reply 45 | March 12, 2020 10:40 AM |
Snowden is not in Russia by choice. The US took unprecedented action to revoke his passport while he was in the air on a flight. He has offered to stand trial if he can use the defense that disclosing secrets is legal if in the public interest. That is not a legally recognized defense, so he would be in jail for the rest of his life.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | March 12, 2020 10:49 AM |

Not really. Manning has been clear that they have already told the government everything they know, and that this was just a Trump admin attempt to punish them for what they have already served time for.
There's no reason to keep Manning in jail. The government has shown nothing to indicate that they know Manning has more information and is refusing to release it.

[quote] Not really. Manning has been clear that they have already told the government everything they know, and that this was just a Trump admin attempt to punish them for what they have already served time for.
Yes, really. All Manning needed to do was testify that he’s already provided the government with all the info he knows with regards to Wikileaks. He has already served time for anything that could be the subject of his testimony. This was pure obstruction from a diagnosed narcissistic head case.

by Anonymous | reply 53 | March 12, 2020 2:24 PM |
Manning has said repeatedly through their lawyer and to the press that they already told the government all they knew. They won't agree to testify in front of a secret grand jury because they feel it's an attempt to intimidate and relitigate the prior court martial.
They haven't been convicted of anything. The judge just keeps throwing Manning back in jail every time the grand jury's term expires. It's a way for the government to incarcerate someone for life without giving them due process or even convicting them.
That should concern you. I know it doesn't because you (and most of the posters on this thread) sound like rightwing scumbags, of which Datalounge has many lately, but the government shouldn't be able to throw someone into solitary confinement for life without even a trial, just for not repeating testimony they have already given.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | March 12, 2020 2:26 PM |
R54
It isn't the "government". but any judge has power to put someone in jail for contempt of court who comes before them and will not cooperate.
Those thrown into jail like anyone else can appeal to higher courts including SCOTUS for relief, and yes Manning did so and the relief was denied.

by Anonymous | reply 59 | March 12, 2020 8:45 PM |
[quote] They won't agree to testify in front of a secret grand jury because they feel it's an attempt to intimidate and relitigate the prior court martial.
And that is Manning’s choice. He is not being forced by the judge or the government to make that decision. He is not a political prisoner nor does his refusal strike a blow against actual miscarriages of justice or make a stand for constitutional rights.
Manning cannot be tried again, so the idea that they are “relitigating” his previous court martial is false. All he needs to do is testify.
[quote] you (and most of the posters on this thread) sound like rightwing scumbags, of which Datalounge has many lately
Yes dear, anyone who disagrees with you must be a rightwing, MAGA wearing Cheetolini fan and not someone who simply has a different opinion. Tell me, before TDS did you dismiss anyone who disagreed with you on any subject as a conservative blowhard?
