An acquaintance of mine into his thirties or even early forties was, in my opinion, gorgeous. Saw him on the beach and he had this perfect wasp waist. I would mention it to shared gay friends of ours. He disappeared. A few years later I ran into him at a gay gathering. He was leaving and waved sheepishly to me going out the door. I initially didn't recognize him. He had ballooned up to really fat, like way over 200 pounds. He must have a food addiction which he was keeping under control before perhaps by over exercising and anorexia. I knew he had other addictive tendencies which had opening talked about back in the day.

What is so hard about keeping your weight under control if you know you are going to be photographed and commented on or your performance is going to be diminished? It's like most surgeons know they can't drink or their career will be compromised.

You look at these overweight or obese female stars and you can see they have gone to considerable trouble with their looks via surgery, hair colouring, wardrobe, makeup. Why not work with a therapist, nutritionist, personal trainer or addiction specialist if it is alcohol that has caused their weight problem to deal with the most obvious aspect of their appearance?

I know some just don't give a fuck like Brando or Bardot, but they are/were recluses.

A guy I know in real life was Jimmie Walker skinny in his 20s. Like, not just skinny but gawky. I moved and didn't see him for several years and the next time we met he had gained probably 40-50 pounds. His face had filled out and he had a paunch...I was shocked and hope I didn't show it when I saw him.

If you have a fast metabolism when you’re young and don’t have to put much effort into maintaining a thin body, you don’t necessarily learn how to discipline yourself when it comes to food. Same as R99. I kept yo-yoing up 20 lb/9 kg with every crisis in my life until I made a decision to stop using food as comfort, distraction or recreation. I saw in my pets how much the quality of what they ate affected their health and looks and how important a quality diet was as they grew older. I realised how 99.9% of what was making me fat was crap; either zero nutrition or harmful. And then I changed my habits and my weight has been stable - slim, not just normal - for over 10 years.

R51: Indeed in my 40's inner ear issues were fun. I say that with all sarcasm. Now my 50's I weigh less than ever and now have C3 and L5 damage as well as desiccated discs in my spine. Causes all sorts of shit to happen.

And I went from 240lbs (And I will say even at that weight I caught plenty of play) down to 160lbs. And maintained his weight. All I did was drop he sugar. You'd never believe how much sugar you take in a day. Essentially 17 teaspoons of sugar per day, 57lbs per year.
