New York creates ‘containment zone’ in New Rochelle.

With New Rochelle, a small city just north of New York City in Westchester County, emerging as the center of the state’s outbreak, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo of New York on Tuesday announced a targeted containment strategy to halt the spread of the virus.

The state’s plan focuses on a “containment area” in New Rochelle with a one-mile radius centered around a synagogue believed to be at the center of the cluster, officials said.

Schools and other large gathering facilities like community centers and houses of worship within the area will be closed for two weeks beginning on Thursday, Mr. Cuomo said. Businesses such as grocery stores and delis would remain open. The state did not plan to close streets or implement travel restrictions, he said.

“You’re not containing people,” he said. “You’re containing facilities.”

The state also planned to deploy the National Guard to in the containment area to clean the schools and deliver food to quarantined residents, Mr. Cuomo said.

The cluster in Westchester County first came to the authorities’ attention last week, when a lawyer who lives in New Rochelle and works in Manhattan, Lawrence Garbuz, became the second person in New York to be diagnosed with coronavirus last week.

Can I just say? The Cuomo boys aren't aging well. Andrew looks like an old woman, with massive carb face. Christopher looks like Jack LaLanne's sister. (If you don't know who that is Google him. his face seems to be spreading out...along with the rest of him. I know he was a gym rat, obsessed about weight training, but Chris, give it up!

by Anonymousreply 5March 10, 2020 5:26 PM

Why are they quarantining white rich areas?

by Anonymousreply 6March 10, 2020 5:34 PM

Rich white people are the only ones who have enough money to travel overseas.

by Anonymousreply 7March 10, 2020 5:36 PM

Lissen. Trump is a fool. Some analyst just explained that we wold reduce the mortality rate for this, if we tested more. Because if you have, for example 100 known cases and 20 of them die (at a nursing home) it skews the mortality rate for the virus. If you test ` million people, and you find 600,000 test positive, but the mortality rate is those same 20 people it looks better. So Trump should have been testing to lower his numbers, not engaging in another cover up.

Its not quarantined at all why spread this bullshit and incite panic in people , really disgusting behavior on the OPs part, f&f . If you want a thread to discuss this, someone start one witnout the inflammatory language of "quarantine" when its clearly not.

by Anonymousreply 16March 10, 2020 6:07 PM

Such is the nature of “breaking news,” r16. Initial reports are often inaccurate. The correction is at R2.

Kindly fuck off and die.

by Anonymousreply 17March 10, 2020 6:09 PM

Um. This is amping up.

by Anonymousreply 18March 10, 2020 6:13 PM

New Rochelle? Wasn't this the home of Rob and Laura Petrie?

by Anonymousreply 19March 10, 2020 6:14 PM

R19...You are quick!

They just showed an arial view of New Rochelle, it looks like a gorgeous old guard NYC suburb. I've always pictured it this way.

by Anonymousreply 22March 10, 2020 8:15 PM

yeah, that's just the nice part r22. The city is very troubled. Trying, but troubled.

by Anonymousreply 23March 10, 2020 8:32 PM

I find it interesting that the coronavirus is being spread around the affluent Jewish communities. There is an outbreak in Monsey, too.

A frau friend of mine was saying this yesterday. Her son goes to one of the private schools in the Bronx. People with money travel. *shrugs*

by Anonymousreply 24March 10, 2020 9:35 PM

Are you suggesting that Jewish people are more pre-disposed to catching the virus?

by Anonymousreply 25March 10, 2020 9:50 PM

That guy in r9 's image is the spitting image of the baby Godzilla.

I don’t know. How many black and Latino Americans have died from covid19? Maybe there’s some genetic vulnerability. I am very curious to see how it all shakes out.

by Anonymousreply 27March 10, 2020 10:01 PM

New Rochelle?? What happened to the old Rochelle! I’m not paying for a new one!

by Anonymousreply 28March 10, 2020 10:03 PM

How you lock down New Rochelle if everyone there pretends they are living in Larchmont, Scarsdale or Pelham?

by Anonymousreply 29March 10, 2020 10:04 PM

It is neither locked down nor quarantined- rather contained, gatherings in large venues etc. My brother lives in New Rochelle right on the border of Larchmont and they can move around by groceries etc. The are NOT quarantined which would mean he could not leave New Rochelle.

by Anonymousreply 30March 10, 2020 10:10 PM

Old Rochelle is fine. It sends it’s regards

You will have to excuse La Rochelle. English is not her native tongue and she’s had a tough history.

by Anonymousreply 32March 10, 2020 10:17 PM

r15, thinking of Richie makes me wish this thing hit New Rochelle about 60 years ago

by Anonymousreply 33March 10, 2020 10:40 PM

We'll just keep going until Ossining.

by Anonymousreply 35March 10, 2020 10:53 PM

And then there's Maude!

by Anonymousreply 36March 10, 2020 10:55 PM

So OP — Breaking news & your first idea is to go on DL? Are you alone in this world? I see a muumuu & a lap dog named Princess- one with a cloudy eye. I feel sad for you. Go to a piano bar & sing some Ethel- stuff from your era. Maybe you’ll make friends. It was called a containment zone from the get go. Fucknut.

by Anonymousreply 37March 10, 2020 11:02 PM

I'm Rhona Virus from Mount Vernon and I'm feeling a little verklempt!

by Anonymousreply 38March 10, 2020 11:08 PM

Your post says so much more about you than it does the OP, but you lack the self-awareness to see it r37

by Anonymousreply 39March 10, 2020 11:08 PM

I once met a friend of a friend who grew up in New Rochelle. Her parents were named Millie and Jerry. Really.

[quote]I find it interesting that the coronavirus is being spread around the affluent Jewish communities. There is an outbreak in Monsey, too.

Looks like Black and Brown people are enjoying POC-privilege in this case. Corona only seems to be hitting wealthy white and Jewish communities where people travel frequently.

by Anonymousreply 42March 10, 2020 11:36 PM

[Quote] I find it interesting that the coronavirus is being spread around the affluent Jewish communities. There is an outbreak in Monsey, too.

It’s actually the orthodox Jewish communities, like it was with the measles epidemic. The lawyer who got it is orthodox and it also spread it to an orthodox community in New Jersey.

Monsey is not affluent.

by Anonymousreply 43March 11, 2020 12:40 AM

R43, Oh, I didn’t know that. Don’t know Jersey. There are pockets of wealth (and Orthodox) in Rockland, where there’s an outbreak, too.

I’m sorry to seem overly focused on this, but I find it fascinating. When the news was first starting to sink in, late January, I was reading little things that the virus was hitting men, mostly. And also a certain blood type. It sounds tin-hat, but I do wonder about the groups of people who are and are not being killed by this thing.

by Anonymousreply 44March 11, 2020 1:50 AM

So, will they be closing down the Broadway version of "Rochelle, Rochelle...a Girl's Erotic Journey From Milan To Minsk"?

by Anonymousreply 45March 11, 2020 1:58 AM

You mean Rochelle, Rochelle: The Musical?

Honey, that show never even made it out of Boston.

by Anonymousreply 46March 11, 2020 5:28 AM

Will they still let Millie go over to Laura's in the morning for coffee at least?

by Anonymousreply 47March 11, 2020 5:57 AM

[quote] groups of people who are and are not being killed by this thing.

You are way overstating this. No “groups of people” have died. There hasn’t even been that many deaths.

by Anonymousreply 48March 11, 2020 10:41 AM

R5 Andrew Cuomo is a hot daddy to me. I love his voice. Yes I’m weird!

by Anonymousreply 49March 11, 2020 10:50 AM

Chris Cuomo still still has it.

by Anonymousreply 50March 11, 2020 11:04 AM

R48, I mean “groups” as in demographics, not numbers. But yes, I agree that the number of sick and dying isn’t high at all, relative to population.

by Anonymousreply 51March 11, 2020 11:06 AM

Mario Cuomo in that pic above is ancient...he was a decent looking fellow in youth

by Anonymousreply 52March 11, 2020 12:42 PM

Never forget:

“Vote for Cuomo, not the homo.”
