Do you ever feel like we're living in the end times?

The fires in Australia, Corona virus, massive inequality, the elections of people like Trump and Boris Johnson. It feels like the plot of a dystopian novel.

by Anonymousreply 24March 10, 2020 7:03 AM

Yes OP, more than ever unfortunately

by Anonymousreply 1March 10, 2020 12:41 AM

Are you me OP? For a minute I thought I wrote this. I’ve been sleeping badly.

by Anonymousreply 2March 10, 2020 12:41 AM

I every age there have been people who thought they were living in the end times.

by Anonymousreply 3March 10, 2020 12:41 AM

How quaint OP.

by Anonymousreply 4March 10, 2020 12:42 AM

No it feels like 2001 again.

by Anonymousreply 5March 10, 2020 12:42 AM

Except bird flu had a 60% mortality rate instead of a measly 3.4%.

Pffft! Kids today have it easy .

by Anonymousreply 6March 10, 2020 12:45 AM

Not at all. We are not experiencing

WORLD WAR ONE, THE WAR TO END ALL WARS.

Or, oops here's another one, WORLD WAR TWO. Do you get it? A WORLD war!! So no, not even close. The Spanish flu killed more people. It's your own existential ennui being projected outward but take a look at history and baby, it ain't never been so good.

by Anonymousreply 7March 10, 2020 12:46 AM

No.

by Anonymousreply 8March 10, 2020 12:46 AM

Sometimes I hope we are. I don't want to commit suicide, but most nights, neither do I care if I wake up tomorrow.

by Anonymousreply 9March 10, 2020 12:48 AM

Reagan, Bush, W. We thought it couldn’t possibly get worse. Clinton, Obama, Biden: the pushback gets weaker and weaker.

End times? Maybe not. End of democracy? More likely.

by Anonymousreply 10March 10, 2020 12:48 AM

I am [italic]CONCERNED!!![/italic]

by Anonymousreply 11March 10, 2020 1:22 AM

I think its just a shitty spring season.

by Anonymousreply 12March 10, 2020 1:28 AM

Floods, fires and vapors of smoke.

by Anonymousreply 13March 10, 2020 1:33 AM

Take some cyanide, OP. Quickly. The world will be a better place.

by Anonymousreply 14March 10, 2020 1:35 AM

Yes, OP. You are not alone- and I am not some Evangelical type given to literal interpretations of biblical passages a la Revelations. It seems like the Whole World is on Fire these days and there's not much we can do about it. And more regretful- many of the circumstances- Global warming and Humans dining on Bat soup were man- made so to speak, so much of this could have been prevented. If there is a God, is he laughing at us or weeping?

by Anonymousreply 15March 10, 2020 1:37 AM

We are about 1000 Dow Jones points away from "The Handmaid's Tale."

by Anonymousreply 16March 10, 2020 1:41 AM

Read the book of Revelations in the Bible.

by Anonymousreply 17March 10, 2020 1:47 AM

R5 I'm almost 40, so I remember 2001 well, and it didn't feel like this. Things have been getting worse and worse for a long time, but it feels like we've finally reached the tipping point.

R7 The US is involved in multiple wars right now.

R15 Exactly. Before I had hope, but I don't anymore.

by Anonymousreply 18March 10, 2020 4:45 AM

R9, what if that feeling was because of a chemical imbalance? What if your dopamine circulation got messed up somehow. And that all this time you would have felt better if you had only repaired your chemistry?

Whenever I hear people that are flat like that, that’s what comes to mind.

by Anonymousreply 19March 10, 2020 4:52 AM

Relax OP.

It’s not like there are swarms of locusts...

Oh wait:

Hundreds of billions of locusts swarm in East Africa

Hundreds of billions of locusts are swarming through parts of East Africa and South Asia in the worst infestation for a quarter of a century, threatening crops and livelihoods.

Yes I do but Then I remember the world was supposed to end in 2012 and 2000 before that

by Anonymousreply 21March 10, 2020 5:08 AM

Ugh. Must I? Really. Fine.

Joel got the idea for the song when he had just turned 40. He was in a recording studio and met a 21-year-old friend of Sean Lennon who said "It's a terrible time to be 21!" Joel replied to him, "Yeah, I remember when I was 21 – I thought it was an awful time and we had Vietnam, and y'know, drug problems, and civil rights problems and everything seemed to be awful." The friend replied, "Yeah, yeah, yeah, but it's different for you. You were a kid in the fifties and everybody knows that nothing happened in the fifties". Joel retorted, "Wait a minute, didn't you hear of the Korean War or the Suez Canal Crisis?" Joel later said those headlines formed the basic framework for the song.

A 21 year old friend of Sean Lennon, when Sean Lennon was 13??? What? Well, okay...
