With the world currently in coronavirus freakout mode, how is everyone here feeling about going to see a Broadway show these days? Are you less enthusiastic to go sit in a theater surrounded by large amounts of people or are you not concerned about it too much just yet?
I went to see a show yesterday and there were a few coughs in my section (and one guy sneezed as he left the bathroom at intermission, though no one around him seemed to flinch) but otherwise most people appeared to be in good health.

Mayor Pete at the matinee of "The Inheritance" Part 1 this afternoon. He got a standing ovation as he sat down, and the first intermission was longer than usual because people were mobbing him. Didn't see him in those seats anymore after the second act.

Everything's going to be on TKTS/TDF before long. I often take the Acela from D.C. to New York to see shows. Amtrak is suspending Acela service starting Tuesday because of a sharp drop in bookings attributed to the coronavirus. (It's a financial decision.) You think people will feel comfortable sitting in crowded theaters? (Or even half-empty ones, which could be the case soon.)

The curtain call for the Broadway Company is decent quality. Does anyone know if there is a bootleg of it already? I've seen a good bootleg of the London version, and would like to see how the transfer compares. I thought Rosalie Craig was fantastic. I like Katrina Lenk in other things I have seen, but I don't think this is a good fit. I would like to be proven wrong.

From the last thread:
[quote]Lansbury was the total package for Rose. Daly looked extremely right, acted the hell out of it but was an absolute shit singer ALL the time, not just at that recording session.
I'm guessing the truth is that, because Daly is not primarily a singer, and probably didn't have a lot of vocal training prior to taking on GYPSY, it's likely that the quality of her singing varied greatly during her run in GYPSY. In the performance I saw, her singing was fine. So it's pretty stupid of you to state flatly that she was "an absolute shit singer ALL the time," unless you saw every performance.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | March 9, 2020 2:04 AM |
Miss Buckley is all at sea in that performance of 'Roses.' She doesn't have any idea why she's there or why she's singing that song to that girl. You might not like Staunton, but she knows exactly what Rose is doing. Even as she says, "This time I'm apologizing to you..." she is not apologizing. She is full on conning her daughter and pressuring her into taking over June's role in the act. You may not like that interpretation. But it's all thought out and deliberate and clear. Buckley is just waving her arms around.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | March 9, 2020 2:07 AM |
I was so exited to see Betty in GYPSY as I had heard a tape of her doing Rose's Turn in a BBC concert and she was spectacular. One of the best I ever heard. And then I saw her at Papermill. Jeez, it was awful and her performance was not good. What a shame.

Agree with prior posters about THE LEHMAN TRILOGY.
Not sure why it became a smash while at the Armory. Possibly because of ticket scarcity?
The first third is great, but after that it's downhill with diminishing returns.
THE INHERITANCE is a far better play. But neither compares to THE SOUND INSIDE. How crazy will it be if Adam Rapp actually took the Tony? Won't happen, but of the new plays this season, his is the most impressive one.

GIRL FROM THE NORTH COUNTRY hadn't been selling that well before the positive reviews (it was on TDF several times). I imagine the Times rave will sell some tickets, but it's no MOULIN ROUGE.

[quote]If the character is already trans, how are they in disguise? If one of them is already dressed as a woman, where's the fun in that. These people sure know how to suck the fun out of anything.
Perhaps it's a way of avoiding criticism from the trans community similar to that heaped on "Tootsie" -- i.e., cis men dressed as women is an insult to trans people, so you get around it by making one of the characters trans from the get-go.

Brantley is an ill-informed ass. In his "Unknown Soldier" review, he says Estelle Parsons "turns out to be a creditable singer"
Pirates of Penzance and Threepenny Opera notwithstanding, the 2nd paragraph of her Wikipedia entry says "Parsons became a singer before deciding to pursue a career in acting"

While Choppers Brantley didn't gush over Unknown Soldier, he certainly gave it a much better review than it deserved. There is no universe in which SLAVE PLAY will win the Tony for Best Play.
If there were stronger entries this season, it would probably not even be nominated. The two Tony nominators I know hated the show, and rightfully so. That emperor has no clothes, especially in the first half.
But if the category has five nominees, SLAVE PLAY might sneak in.
THE LEHMAN TRILOGY, THE INHERITANCE, THE SOUND INSIDE and (to a lesser degree) THE MINUTES and THE HANGMEN are all the likely nominees.
What could sneak in and spoil the chances for one of those five?
I missed GREAT SOCIETY but heard it was dull. And I heard THE HEIGHT OF THE STORM was tiresome, though expect those two leads to be nominated.
GRAND HORIZONS is a weak sitcom.
SEA WALL/A LIFE was great and well-received, but it came and went a long time ago. MY NAME IS LUCY BARTON was a great vehicle for Laura Linney but is a mediocre play.
Unknown: BIRTHDAY CANDLES
That leaves us with LINDA VISTA. Will Tracy Letts get two best play nominations? Seems unlikely, but LINDA VISTA is a thousand times better than SLAVE PLAY.
And finally, that leaves us with A CHRISTMAS CAROL, which will be up for Best Play, as it's a new script. It got great reviews. Can you imagine the wailing and screeching if that got the fifth slot over the overrated SLAVE PLAY? How delicious that would be.
by Anonymous | reply 100 | March 10, 2020 1:55 PM |

Slave Play will definitely be nominated, because of white guilt. The east coast "woke" theater folk believe it is the revolutionary masterpiece of a budding genius, a major force in modern theater. Face it, Broadway is now dominated by the "woke" elite.

[quote] And yes, there is the need to avoid #Tonyssowhite.
Except the Tony Awards have an exemplary record of honoring black artists, not because Jada Pinkett Smith bitched about it, but because (Audra notwithstanding) there have been many black artists worthy of their nominations and wins. So if anyone was to start a stupid campaign like that, I would hope the American Theater Wing and The Broadway League would point to that history and shut them the fuck up.

Oh, come on. You know perfectly well that they cannot film a host of different versions of these sequences to accommodate every possible combination of leads, understudies, stand-bys and swings.
If you cannot figure that out, go back to ATC where they are perpetually flummoxed by anything involving common sense.

It's WSS, and the fact that you made that stupid mistake twice in one post indicates that your analysis of what this show "needed" isn't worth much.
[quote]You know perfectly well that they cannot film a host of different versions of these sequences to accommodate every possible combination of leads, understudies, stand-bys and swings.
Many of the video sequences are live, so those huge images on the back wall would be of whoever was in the show for that performance. The long scene of Tony running during "A Boy Like That / I Have a Love" is an exception. I don't find it so hard to believe that they might have filmed all of the possible Tonys doing that. How many could there be in total? Probably no more than four at absolute most.

People have suggested rewriting the book for APPLAUSE so that the action takes place around 1950, the time of the movie, and others have suggested updating the action to the present day, but neither approach would work, for different reasons.
Also, while APPLAUSE is not a great show, it isn't really accurate to say that it "didn't work" on Broadway. It ran for 896 performances.

SUGAR can't really be said not to have worked, either. It ran for 500 performances, then toured for quite a while (with Morse, Larry Kert, Gale Gordon, and Leland Palmer). It was produced frequently during the late 70s, and in the 80s there was yet another tour, albeit a bargain basement one with Joe Namath. There was also a successful London production with Tommy Steele. I can think of several productions of it in the last fifteen years or so. I don't think it has disappeared at all.
The score has two or three really great songs, and the rest are just okay. But it's a lot of fun, and the book is really funny. Unfortunately when Styne & Merrill turned their attention to it again for London, they didn't come up with any better material than they already had.

Matthew Lopez is half Puerto Rican...thus, of some Spanish descent. Spain is in Europe...like France and Italy.
The fact some woke latins are trying to get all Latin people moved into the people of color category is a tad ridiculous since Spain was the ORIGINAL American continental colonizer.

No, not "thus." Not necessarily. He may be, but Spanish ancestry does not necessarily apply to all Puerto Ricans.

Slave Play huffed and puffed, but nobody went to see it. One of the spring plays probably stands a better shot. McDonagh has never won, and while Hangmen is not his best play, it's pretty good. He's overdue. Lehman also could be formidable.

It makes zero sense to me that colleges are canceling classes on campus, the governor says to avoid crowded subways, travel is in the shitter—and yet Broadway is up and running. That’s being in a confined space with 1000+ people for 2.5 hours. How is that consistent?

[quote] untrue [R141]. It's the Wokeratti gripe du jour if a POC isn't shoehorned into nominations.
Nothing I said was untrue. As I said earlier, The Tony Awards has a long history of nominating and awarding POCs and as such has not come under fire from the twitterverse.
HOWEVER, most years for Best Play, Best Score, Best Book and several other categories, no POCs are in the mix. But it doesn't matter because in the most high profile categories, the 8 acting awards, and to a lesser degree the directing awards, black people have been very well represented and therefore the awards have remained complaint free.

Danny is the male equivalent of Kelli O'Hara. A blandly competent performer who has given one or two deserving performances but is somehow always nominated and now seems overdue. (Brandon Uranowitz is becoming the millennial version of this.) Throw the sick wife into the mix and he's a lock.

The only performance of Danny Burstein's that I felt was remotely close to "bland" was his Tevye, and that was only because he was hamstrung by a director who had apparently gone temporarily insane. In every other show in which I've seen him, Danny has been the opposite of bland. He even somehow figured out a way to give an interesting performance in the epic piece of crap that is MOULIN ROUGE, and that's saying something.
As for Kelli, the only times I thought she seemed a bit bland onstage was when she was miscast in PAJAMA GAME and BELLS ARE RINGING.

Saw "Toni Stone" at ACT in SF last night. The house seemed pretty full, so we're getting on with our lives during the pandemic. The play was very good, as are the actors. A part-time employee with both the Shubert and Nederlander organizations has tested positive for COVID-19.
The employee, who is under quarantine, worked at the Shubert's Booth Theater on Tuesday, March 3rd through Friday March 7th as an usher.
The employee also recently worked at the Nederlander's Brooks Atkinson Theater on the evening of February 25th and the matinee of March 1st, expediting lines outside the building.
Both theaters are being deep cleaned.

So LOVE LIFE has been cancelled at ENCORES outright. That's a shame. After a middling MACK AND MABEL, many of us hoped this would be the standout of the season (and no, it was never going to be MILLIE). Here's hoping they approach it in a future season.
OTOH, it does mean that THE PERPLEXED has closed for good. So there's that.

Tallulah made sure the show went on:
But Bankhead persevered, even through ill health. In 1933, while performing in Jezebel, Bankhead nearly died following a five-hour emergency hysterectomy due to venereal disease, which she claimed she had contracted from George Raft. Weighing only 70 lbs when she left the hospital, she vowed to continue her promiscuous and party lifestyle, stoically saying to her doctor "Don't think this has taught me a lesson!"

No, Love Life itself is cursed. The original production didn’t get a cast recording because of an ASCAP strike at the time. The same thing happened to Where’s Charley, which has had its own cursed life, including a movie negative that is disintegrating because the Widow Loesser disliked the movie.

If you get really bored, you can watch the documentary about Annie, where all the fraus who were former Annies bitch about not having a career after Annie. I wish someone would publish a really juicy book about it. In the documentary, the women allude to a few things, but you never really get anything juicy. I wish Andrea McArdle would spill her guts. It's not like her career is going to go anywhere at this point.

Not necessarily. In the documentary, they allude that two of the parents were having an affair. I'd like to hear how Dorothy Loudon treated Andrea McArdle. And what Sarah Jessica Parker, Broadway's ugliest Annie, did to get the lead. She was fine as one of the lesser orphans, but lead orphan? What did her mother promise the producers?

But I don't understand why we can have operas sung in their original language with surtitles, yet they often don't do it for musical theater. I can't imagine how they come up with a German translation of Sondheim's very precise lyrics.

But I'd rather see those old dinosaurs PHANTOM and CHICAGO close before any of the newer shows mentioned. They've both had incredible runs and made their producers (and hopefully, their creators) lots of money. It's time to go.
I don't think shows should run for 30+ years. We lose the dynamic quality of theatre and the opportunity to address contemporary culture and contemporary audiences. More than that, we limit the opportunity for new work to get produced and find an audience.

I don't think it's intentional. I suspect that when a video is movie length, YouTube automatically converts it down to a low resolution. It's likely to save space on their servers but also an anti-piracy measure.

I love her and thought her vocal performance showed some great vocal skill but I've not got much to compare it with. I also loved the other ladies too and enjoyed Kimiko Glenn's "When He Sees Me", loved the little things she does with her voice in that performance.
by Anonymous | reply 382 | March 14, 2020 5:03 PM |
I was sorry not to see Jessie Mueller in BEAUTIFUL or WAITRESS. Friends said she was just stellar.
I was disappointed by her work in the CAROUSEL revival. She and Joshua Henry both sang their roles well, but had no chemistry together. Mueller was pretty bland as Julie when she really needed to be more of a focus.
I would also like to have seen her in that weird genderfucked revival of ON A CLEAR DAY, just out of perverse curiosity.
by Anonymous | reply 383 | March 14, 2020 5:10 PM |
I thought Mueller played Carrie. Was that a different production?
by Anonymous | reply 384 | March 14, 2020 5:12 PM |
Lindsay Mendez was Carrie in the 2018 revival.
Muelller was Julie Jordan, the female lead.

[Quote] Also in 2013, she once again took on the role of Carrie Pipperidge in Carousel at Lincoln Center in a staged concert production backed by the New York Philharmonic – a special that was filmed and aired on PBS' Live from Lincoln Center.
I knew she'd played it in New York.
by Anonymous | reply 386 | March 14, 2020 5:18 PM |
That CAROUSEL is on Amazon Prime and is not the revival. Jessie Mueller's best role in my opinion is CAROUSEL so far. Best sung anyway. Her voice was beautiful there. Her acting was pretty bland. R382 In my opinion she is at the bottom of the Jenna's. Katharine McPhee sang it the prettiest and her acting was good. She was sweet. Allison Ruff was the best acted and INCREDIBLE vocals. So much depth. Lots of other good ones too. Jessie, to me, concentrated too much on using an affected country twang in her singing that none of the other girls did. They all sang with more power and from the heart. I can't even listen to the WAITRESS cast recording because it just doesn't compare.
by Anonymous | reply 387 | March 14, 2020 5:23 PM |
IMHO, Jessie Mueller was far better as Carrie in the NY Philharmonic's CAROUSEL than she was as Julie in the Broadway revival, but the NY Phil was a far superior production overall.

"I don't think shows should run for 30+ years. We lose the dynamic quality of theatre and the opportunity to address contemporary culture and contemporary audiences. More than that, we limit the opportunity for new work to get produced and find an audience."
Theoretically you may be correct.; However, have you seen the new shit that's being produced for Broadway musical theater? No, thanks.

[quote] I don't think it's intentional. I suspect that when a video is movie length, YouTube automatically converts it down to a low resolution. It's likely to save space on their servers but also an anti-piracy measure.
I'm not the snarky guy at R380, but I was the person who made the original comment about 360p. However, he is indeed correct. There are several full length films, etc. in both 720 and 1080p quality. I attach one here as an example.

I hate Carousel. I've never been able to sit through the whole thing. I am a HUGE Jessie Mueller fan, have seen her in On a Clear Day, Nice Work, Beautiful and Waitress. I saw part of the Lincoln Center Carousel where she played Carrie, but I could not bring myself to see her play Julie. I just loathe everything about the show.

Carrie is really the better, showier role in "Carousel". Julie only really has two songs, the bench scene "If I Loved You" and "What's the Use of Wondrin", with a couple of lines here and there otherwise. It works better with close-ups with Shirley Jones in the movies. Barbara Cook and Audra McDonald first got noticed playing Carrie.

The anti-LMM Loon is definitely a loon, whether or not he's THE Loon (anti-Julie, anti-Poppins, anti-Jessica Lange, thinks Bedknobs and Broomsticks is the greatest film ever, and named Matt).
That kind of vitriol is just stupid. And furthermore, it's only good once. When you keep at it, over and over and over and over again, all you are doing is reenforcing the fact that you have some kind of underlying mental condition. On top of that, you appear to have some kind of substance abuse problems.
But go ahead, trash Miranda again. No one cares. You're just masturbating, doing it to get yourself off. You're adding nothing to DL.

I think they're the same, based on his pathetically unfunny name for LMM, Lynne Trans-Smell Esmerelda. He had a similarly strained and unfunny name for "Mary Poppins Returns," a movie that must have made his head explode. by Anonymous | reply 455 | March 15, 2020 1:10 PM |
r;434: Wiki is very interesting about the film:
Phil Silvers said about the film:
"There was so little money that "Top Banana" was shot in a day and a half. [The director] just pointed the camera and let it roll. He didn't dare stop. In the final cut, you could see a stage hand walking behind a drop. The sound quivered and faded, and yet it managed to pick up every off camera shoe squeak. The 3-D process was obsolete by the time the picture was released, so the 3-D film was projected on regular two-dimensional machines. This left all sort of strange vertical blurs. But the comedy was still there. Somewhere. I made nothing out of the picture. "Top Banana" is occasionally shown on the TV too-late shows, which adds a little blur of their own. The young film buffs who stay up all night consider it a collector's item. With its out of sync sound, inexplicable noises, scenes that seem to be underwater, it's now avant-garde."
Rose Marie had all of her musical numbers cut from the final cut of the film. In 2017, she noted that a producer had made sexual overtures on her, and when she came back with a sharp retort, the offended producer cut out all of her songs. It would be the only time Rose Marie had experienced any form of sexual harassment during her 90-year career in the entertainment industry.
The film was not financially successful upon its release.
Preservation: The film was photographed in Eastmancolor, and processed by the Color Corporation of America laboratory in Burbank, California. The lab went out of business the following year. Although unconfirmed, it is presumed that all of the original elements were junked at that time. The negatives were labeled under the production company name, Roadshow Productions.
The only material in the MGM/UA library today is an edited 16mm release print of one side (missing about 15 minutes of footage depicting the rehearsal for the introduction of “Miss Blendo”). This is the version which has been released on home video. There are no original elements of the film that currently exist. It is one of two 3-D films lost in the original stereoscopic form, the other being Southwest Passage. The edited footage does survive in several 16mm prints struck in 1954, but it is currently not available in the video version offered by MGM.

Her other songs aren't so great: A Word a Day with Silvers, I Fought Every Step Of the Way (girl-vs.-the-cads comedy thing). Top Banana did not have a great score. The key thing about the film is seeing exactly what a fifties musical comedy was like.

Not really. "Damn Yankees" and "The Pajama Game" were '50s musical comedies, and good ones. "Top Banana" captures what a '50s musical revue was like, as does the movie of the superior "New Faces of 1952" (called simply "New Faces"), before TV variety shows killed the Broadway musical revue.
by Anonymous | reply 466 | March 15, 2020 4:20 PM |
Plus "Call Me Madam" has a great cast and is probably the best representation of what Ethel Merman was like on stage in one of her big hit shows. Also, "How to Succeed in Business" from 1962, is also a big hit from the Golden Age (even with a few cut numbers) that show what a great musical comedy from the 50s-60s era was like.

R462, partially correct. In the version of Top Banana released on VHS and DVD, Sans Souci is in there, but shorn of its vocal. It just jump cuts to the dance. Did any pop vocalists cover the songs from Top Banana other than Nat King Cole doing "You're OK for TV."

I think this is actually a really good number. But separate from the producer's assholery, it might have faced censor's problems for the film. That, and "Sans Souci" and "My Home is in My Shoes" are the three good songs in the show.

I guess that's true, but from just a few years later, there is L'IL ABNER, which is essentially a filmed version of the stage show, though filmed in a studio rather than right on stage.
by Anonymous | reply 481 | March 15, 2020 8:22 PM |
You're an ignorant jackass, R466
Top Banana isn't a revue. It's a book show. Some of its numbers sneak in under pretexts (such as My Home Is In My Shoes and Sans Souci), but the show has a detailed storyline. The fact that there were better book shows is irrelevant to my point: Top Banana was filmed on stage with its stage cast (except the juvenile lead, who was a replacement during the run). You see how these shows looked and acted, you see the choreography, the scenery, etc.

That post-Easter date was overly optimistic.
Since Cuomo shut things down and the insurance companies are on the hook, does anyone know how much that insurance actually pays? Just enough to cover rent?
I also wonder how the ATW and the Drama Desk folks and all the awards people plan to handle this? Most (not all, but most) of the serious contenders for the Tony Awards were in previews and hadn't even officially opened yet. If they give awards based on what did open during the normal window, some true shite is gonna take home some trophies.
by Anonymous | reply 523 | March 16, 2020 3:49 PM |
R523, all those organizations just love drama. Whatever creates for themselves the most drama is what they will do. And if nothing opens... nothing can compete. Combine that cold hard fact with the fact that these folks live on drama, look for the awards to be cancelled. (!!!!!!!!!)
by Anonymous | reply 524 | March 16, 2020 4:21 PM |
I think people need to take a broader view of what's going on. The TONYs, like all industry awards, are promotional events to market their products, ie, shows currently available. When we have no idea what's coming back for business and, more importantly, when... it's absurd to speculate when these awards will take place, or eligibility cut-offs. Right now, no one knows a freaking thing.
You can't (and shouldn't) promote a product that's either unavailable to your audience. or doesn't exist.

I wasn't impressed when I watched the recording of Holiday Inn. I found the whole thing kind of meandering. Corbin has talent but I absolutely hate his name. And acting as though the plot of the new musical was the inspiration for the old movie? That was just weirdly meta and strange. Don't know why they included that.
I think Jessie Mueller is great but I've only seen her in The Mystery of drood. Did anybody else see that on Broadway like 8 years ago? I went in with no idea what the show was about and I have to admit I spent most of my time being bored. It's not a show that you can easily get into unless you walk in understanding the type of storytelling they're going for. Jesse and...dang....what's his name again? Orfey's husband? Guy who played Rocky? Jesse and he we're f****** hilarious in Drood. And they were in tan makeup to appear Indian, and even put on accents. Andy Karl! That's his name. Yeah, they were genius together. And even though all the characters are actually supposed to be British performers playing characters in an old-style Music Hall Show, I wonder if that kind of thing could be done again on the stage without people freaking out about how "racist" it is. But then, I also think Mrs. Meers is a character that audiences won't be too comfortable with from here on out, even though Harriet Harris was brilliant in the part.
I'm still waiting to see a full video of Laura benanti in my fair lady. I haven't come across one, so if anybody has a link please share it. I know she was looking forward to playing that role for years and I'm curious to see what she did with it.
Her Twitter message out to all the high schoolers with sweet. Sure, I know people do these kinds of things for attention and publicity, but I think she's just trying to reach out to her young fan base and it's true, a lot of them are probably devastated to have rehearsed a show for months that they're never actually going to be able to perform.
I have no opinions on Lin-Manuel Miranda. I'm happy for his success but I'm not a big fan of rap. I'm waiting to see the film releases of In The Heights and Hamilton to really form an opinion. There should never have been a sequel to Mary Poppins though, that much I can say with certainty.
I really hope Phantom and Lion King and the others are able to come back after this break. I would assume after generating such huge profits for so long, the producers would be able to take a hit. It's probably the shows that have barely gotten off the ground that are going to be really screwed over. But Broadway without Phantom? That just seems wrong to me.
by Anonymous | reply 531 | March 16, 2020 5:54 PM |
I, too, would love to see video of Benanti in My Fair Lady. I wasn't very impressed when I saw Ambrose in the role. Surprisingly, her singing was incredibly strong. It was her acting and stage presence that disappointed.

by Anonymous | reply 583 | March 17, 2020 1:52 AM |
I love the Frears film and I think it might have been better with Rickman but Malkovich gives a good performance and like Close realizes that their version is not about physical lust but about narcissism and psychological manipulation. They both play that very well. I didn't care nearly so much for the Foreman version of the same source material that came out shortly before. It had a more realistic acting style but Frears' version, as I mentioned above, I think is much more involving, hammy melodrama it is.

I don't think Eric Millegan was ever considered a co-star on Bones but regularly recurred for several seasons and was given a big story arc where his intern character was given a featured role as a satanist serial killer and given special status. They eventually wrote him out but thought enough of him to bring him back for a couple of episodes as a guest star during the final abbreviated season. Bones went through several interns over the years but I think Eric held the part for the longest.
I always liked him on the show. If I've gotten something wrong, I'd be glad to have him step in and correct me if he's still around.

Right now there is a war between the producers and the theatre owners. The theatre owners are insisting the shows pay rent during this horrible period. It's crazy time. The only survivors will be The Disney crap, Hamilton, Wicked and Mormon.
by Anonymous | reply 588 | March 17, 2020 4:57 AM |
And, what are the theater owners going to do if everyone but Disney/Hamilton/Mormon/Wicked pull out? Sit on dozens of empty theaters for MONTHS?
For that matter, all the BIG shows could pull out and be fine. Most of them are already packaged for the road, so once this is all over, they could just pull a road company back to NYC to quickly set up shop. I mean, they move from city to city...they know how to get a show up in a few days.
