The Reflex

The record company did not like the warbling effect in the song but Duran Ditto insisted that it be a single and it was their first #1 song on Billboard.

I remember that song. It was back in the mid-eighties when I still had a gag Reflex.

“You’ve gone too far this time...but I’m dancing on the valentine..”

I remember the first time I heard the song/saw the video on MTV. My brain exploded. "The Reflex" made me feel hyperactive and excited to be alive every time it came on. What a great time for music!

Duran Duran was awesome. Those first 3 or 4 LPs were magic .

The Reflex is a catchy enough pop song, thanks to Simon Le Bon's vocals. However, look closer and you'll see the lyrics are inane. Their "Seven And The Ragged Tiger" album is full of nonsense lyrics: no coherence, no real meaning.

Duran Duran's best effort is Ordinary World. It's a poignant song about trying to carry on after a great loss.

Duran Duran was the first act to have their song from a James Bond movie go to #1 (on Billboard).

Nope, "Nobody Does It Better," "For Your Eyes Only" nor "Live And Let Die" went to #1. (Oddly "Live and Let Die" reached #2 but was held out of the top song by three different songs.

For your eyes only is my fave bond song.

That was a weird album. New Moon On Monday has some crazy lyrics too. Almost dadaist.

The Reflex was about not bruising his penis.

John Taylor was the cutest

Like r3 said - a great time for music. 1984/85 - just a non-stop roller coaster of great songs on the radio.

I miss those fun days of MTV

by Anonymousreply 12March 10, 2020 6:17 AM

Every little thing the reflex does Leaves you answered with a question mark

I love their inane lyrics.

Oh Rio Rio dance across the Rio Grande
