I’m a decade late but Facebook is really, really awful
I joined FB recently the best groups about a new hobby are there. I knew it was a bit of a shithole but I didn’t realise just how awful it is, or o should say how awful people are on there. I kinda naively thought that people on forums would be nicer if they had to give their real name and photo but FB is just that and it doesn’t help at all. I’ve seen the vilest comments and the person has a picture with their kids as a avatar...I mean.. Not to mention how stupid people are but they feel totally confident that they are right, facts be damned. In the past week I’ve stumbled upon about a dozen people confidently posting that Bernie Sanders will take 52% of everyone wages and saying a person on 40,000 will be left with $7 an hour and another hundred idiots in the comments agreeing with lone person stacked for trying to show them how taxation works.
I seriously have even less faith in humanity than I had a month ago and I’m only skimming the surface. I stick to my hobby groups and can’t avoid the suggested posts. How the heck do people who are on this thing every spare moment now go insane from looking at the stupidity. I can only conclude that they are choosing to read stuff that they agree with even if it’s totally wrong, made up, scientifically incorrect etc. Yikes how dangerous is that to society. Crazy that the internet should have opened up the world to us all but it’s actually allowed us to wrap ourselves in a little bubble insulated from everything but our own ideology. Quite scary too.
Yes I’m way, way late to the party but I guess I’d heard so much FB=bad that I thought I couldn’t be shocked but I was wrong. I think it’s the fact that people are being this shitty and stupid while showing their faces, employer, full name, children, spouse..... Oh and don’t get me started on the straight dudes writing the thirstiest, filthiest crap on women’s posts while holding their baby in their avatar - that level of stupidity you have to laugh.

They are spot on about Bernie Sanders tax plan. Even if you make $20 an hour, your take-home pay will be subminimum wage because of the increase in taxes.

OP, stop pushing ur 'Bernie' agenda under these ridiculous scenarios that never happened. Your announced new found displeasure with FB as a shameless guise to post ur Bernie propaganda is so sophomoric and transparent, I'm impressed you had the gall to post here.

Should have left out the Bernie anecdote OP, won’t be welcome here.
I agree fully with your list and I deleted FB years ago and never looked back. It has completely changed my mom who has her head buried in it from the time she gets in from work until she goes to bed. It’s a really, really effective propaganda tool and a good reminder that you can never underestimate the intelligence of the average person. Oh and try men posting thirsty comments on men’s pictures while the profile pic is him and his wife on their wedding day!!!! Used to see it all the time.

You do not have to use your real name on FB, I don't and haven't for years. Maybe it's because I hardly use it , it's only when I'm forced to like if I quick info on a business or something. They say they weed out the fakes but not me. FB is the main way the Russians influence the stupid American public. People say the only use it to keep in touch with Granny but that's a big fucking lie, they are addicted and can't stop. They should chop fucking Suckerberg up into a thousand little pieces along with his Chinese spy wife.

All social media is awful. All the narcissism. The constant posting about EVERY fucking tedious thing they are doing.
I had to ignore a friend on Facebook because she kept posting about the coronavirus and why people don't need to wear mask. It was like, "Bitch, we got it the first time you posted about it".

I used a fake name and my profile picture was just a landscape. It’s pretty jarring to read awful homophobic comments and see the person smiling in a pic with his children. I think it makes it far more real than “butthead92” saying the same on Reddit.

Ain't it the truth - I'm not on FB and when it comes up in conversation, saying so invariably generates a response like this - "I'm barely on it, but I keep a page just to keep in touch with my parents/cousins/grandparents etc." And yet, it's a rare week in which someone doesn't mention that they're friends with so-and-so on FB, or verbally share something they saw posted on someone's FB page.
I don't know what it is about FB that makes it such an social crack den, but lying about the obsession is addict behavior.
