Oh lawd!
There was also an incident where a knife was pulled. Another with a stampede. Madness.

Out of curiosity, how much "inventory" of toilet paper do most people keep?
I probably have about 3-4 weeks worth in a cabinet, mostly because I randomly buy another 6 pack without checking.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | March 8, 2020 3:59 AM |
And yet in store aisles, the flushable wipes and tissues are completely stocked. Absolutely no roll toilet paper, though. Do people not know there are other options?

I was at Costco this morning and they were out of toilet paper.
The store normally opens at 9:30 on Saturday. I was driving by the the store at 9:19 and the parking lot was full, so I went over out of curiosity. It was open.
An employee met me at the door and said they were out of toilet paper and paper towels, and steered me towards a designated area for water. He said there was a two case limit for water. I didn’t go there for water, but as I was shopping in that general area, I got caught up in the line, an employee dragged my cart into the line and threw two cases of water onto the bottom rack of the shopping cart before I could even say anything. I’m not even kidding. They had several employees there, one pulling the carts forward, one throwing the water on the carts, another pointing the carts away.
I overheard an employee say “after what happened yesterday” they decided to do this.
And this was in Las Vegas, so it can happen here.

Does tp have an element that comes from China? Recycled paper maybe? Is that why people are hoarding it? Because flu doesn’t give you diarrhea.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | March 8, 2020 4:30 AM |
The really ironic thing here is, these people don’t even wipe.

I didn't listen to the audio, but what was the role of the guy in the red checked shirt? Was he getting on the phone to call the police. Just from the video, he looks like the bitchy, judgmental type.

The audio is there, but no. I will not bother. I'll spend twice the time typing a stupid question on DL instead.

Amazing that Costco shoppers are finally buying water. Generally they only buy nasty sodas & sugary drinks. That water will go undrank in a few weeks when the small minded panic wears off.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | March 8, 2020 5:30 AM |
The black lady was in the right. The fat Indian cunt and her daughter were hoarding an unreasonable amount of TP. Cunts!!!

R12, early reports said Coronavirus gave people diarrhea in the early stages. Don’t know if that’s still true. And it’s not the flu. Completely different. They’ve identified two different types of COVID-19, so maybe one does and one doesn’t.
About whether toilet paper had some part made in China, my guess is the plastic wrappers are from China. It’s probably printed on a roll there.
I saw some sacks of beans at a store this week. They were packed in a plain brown paper wrapper with very basic black stamped lettering. Most of the time, beans are packed in plastic “flour sacks“ with a colorful design. But maybe because it’s a U.S. manufacturer, they want biodegradable packaging.
The beans were grown in the USA, the brown wrappers were made in Washington state and Vancouver. So if we run out of plastic wrap, my guess is they’ll start wrapping things in brown paper. It’s not waterproof but it’s recyclable. But of course these factories can only ramp up slowly and there may be delays.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | March 8, 2020 5:49 AM |
the Indian women were hoarding the TP and had taken all of it. The black woman wanted just one roll and the Indian women refused.

There have been reports of Indians (dot variety) in Australia, buying up TP big and then selling at higher prices in car parks and online.
There is a large Indian population in Australia - particularly Western Sydney (Parramatta) and Melbourne. Indians are the largest source of migrants in recent years.

Re: toilet paper: I don't expect diarrhea; I expect not to be able to purchase from stores for several months. So I bought:
TP, Bounty towels, H2O, canned goods (tuna, chicken, clams, spinach, tomatoes, mushrooms, olives), shelf-stable cartons (tofu, almond milk, chicken broth), jarred (olives, hot peppers, mushrooms, roasted peppers), frozen (vegan burgers, salmon, lamb chops, boneless chicken breasts, cheese).
Carbs would be easier to stock ( beans, rice, pasta), but I need to not eat many.

My country-and I suspect most of the world- are complete and utter morons. Corona can only dream of spreading more quickly than the utter stupidity of the human race. Perhaps I can take a little comfort in that most of the toilet paper hoarders appear to be foreigners who somehow were allowed to settle here. Personally, I hope I get the old virus soon enough, get the suspected slight sniffle, recover soon enough-like most who have contracted it- and get the silly thing over and done with.

by Anonymous | reply 40 | March 8, 2020 12:14 PM |
Because most of India is relatively warm, r40. This is why Africa has also not yet been subject to coronavirus.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | March 8, 2020 12:29 PM |
Most of the cases in the Southern Hemisphere and tropical regions have been 'imported'. The limited local transmissions probably happened in air-conditioned buildings or living in the same house as somebody.
According to one research paper I read (sorry I don't have the link) the virus appears to not liveo n surfaces as long in the warmer weather.
However, I suspect like the common cold it can be transmitted easily enough in warmer weather to overburden the health systems around the world.

R36, Perhaps more accurately to say that my 70-year-old self with HBP won't WANT to go to any stores, and sooner than I might like.
A school district in the contiguous county just closed all its schools.

Six rolls goes a long way.
