I read from an earlier article it was 3 parts alcohol to one part aloe vera, which is different from the article.

Still more combos.

Quick way to make hand sanitizer. 91% rubbing alcohol and Aloe Vera Gel. Mix them together. Its cheap, Alcohol cost about 1.00 a bottle, just mix it with aloe vera gel. Basically its the same stuff.

OR

60% ethanol or isopropanol 5% hydrogen peroxide 3% 5% glycerol 30% distilled water

Kills nearly everything on your skin and is cheap too.

Here's what I don't get.

Sanitizers are antibacterial, but this is a virus.

Can a virus be killed by antibacterial hand sanitizers?

Hand sanitizer doesn't work on all but it does for covid-19

can you use 70% rubbing alcohol ?

by Anonymousreply 8March 8, 2020 2:45 AM

Yes R8. 60% is the minimum. And now back to your regularly scheduled program.

I finally found a tube of aloe vera gel, the sales assistant asked if I wanted to buy tea tree oil as well. I said no. Should I have bought it?

by Anonymousreply 10March 8, 2020 3:13 AM

Thrilled to know we already had the Popular Science article ingredients in our bathroom for making our own hand sanitizers. Maybe I'll add some Thieves Oil for retro appeal.

by Anonymousreply 11March 8, 2020 3:21 AM

Tea tree oil may be a bit sticky, r10.

It's a good antiseptic but it's a bit expensive.

by Anonymousreply 12March 8, 2020 4:09 AM

Unfortunately, it's hard to find alcohol now. Of course, I always had some on hand, but for those that don't what do they use? I suggest bleach.
