He seems like a well rounded individual mostly, but he refuses to come out as gay OR promote gay rights, and for me, that's the rub. He crafted a cape-wearing public image, didn't he? With such a massive platform, he's still not a role model for out gays. He's so obsessed with women's rights, but what about gay rights? He's getting married to a man, and is obviously gay, so why not just say it and fight more often for people like him? It's hard to believe that such a self-aware civil rights champion like himself doesn't realize that he's in a glass closet.
Ronan Farrow: Why hasn't he said that he's out yet?

Don’t know what you’re talking about — Ronan has been out for a couple of years.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | March 6, 2020 5:26 AM |
And yet he does NOTHING for the gays. He only cares about women and trans.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | March 6, 2020 5:41 AM |
What have you done for the gays?
by Anonymous | reply 3 | March 6, 2020 5:45 AM |
Ronan is a new age millennial gay, ok?
We champion gay rights by simply living our best lives.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | March 6, 2020 5:54 AM |
If I had his platform, I would be doing a lot more than what he's been doing. Unfortunately, I DON'T have his platform, and because of that, my influence is massively reduced in comparison to his. I have done lots for the gays in my life, though. How can you even compare us? I could ask you the same question R3.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | March 6, 2020 5:57 AM |
Has he ever been in?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | March 6, 2020 5:59 AM |
R4 This is the best explanation, but it still sucks. How can you be living your best life if you're in a glass closet and while ignoring his own rights?! R6 the thing is, he doesn't do anything for the rights of gays. If he was a reality starlet who didn't care about rights and morals, it wouldn't matter, but he works tirelessly for women and trans, while HE'S gay himself, and yet can't be bothered with our own rights. Ffs.

Was his sexuality ever a question? Was he hang'n with his bro's talk'n bout' bang'n chicks?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | March 6, 2020 6:25 AM |
It wasn't so much a question of his preference but more of a "well...?" because it's obvious. Gays are still a marginalized group, but he does nothing for other gays like him and just waxes poetic about the rights of women, mostly. Tbh women are not as marginalized as gays are. He has never come out or ever stood up for gays, other than during a speech when he was in the community, whatever that means. He has such a huge and varied sm platform, but could a give a shit about his OWN RIGHTS! Such hype.

One thing I have to give him dubious credit for: This pandemic has not slowed him down in the relentless promotion of his book.
It’s interesting to watch. His book has to have been one of the best sellers for his publisher in years because it has been so popular and influential.
Then his publisher agreed to publish Woody Allen’s book, and Ronan Farrow went for the jugular and broadcast shame on the publisher and said that it betrayed him, almost as if they were in a committed romantic relationship.
BUT! Ronan never slowed the promotion of his book.
During the time he was shaming his publisher, and after they caved to the pressure and rejected Woody Allen, he has incessantly posted Instagram stories from people who read his book and directed people to buy it. And I imagine the publisher gets a greater cut of profits than he does. Since it was a big story and he is a movie star’s son with a fancy pedigree, I am sure he got an ungodly book advance and a bigger-than-most-authors royalty deal. But I have not heard a peep from him about the pandemic except that social isolation is a good excuse to read his book.
That is a real commitment to opportunistic profiteering!

That is a whole hell of a lot of assumptions you made just to malign someone you will never even be in the same building as, R10.
And you bumped a troll thread that lied about Ronan refusing to come out, too. That's definitely not trollish or anything.

I bet Woody blames Mia for Ronan being gay, though must admit I don't ever recall a single anti-gay statement every coming from Woody's mouth. But I can't help picturing him as one of his characters in one of his own films finding out his son is gay and screaming 'Fucking Mia'.

[quote] Ronan has been out for a couple of years.
Link? I don't recall any public declaration.

He’s engaged to one of those insufferable Pod Save America guys. I imagine it will be a long engagement.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | March 20, 2020 1:14 PM |
R12 Hell, even I blame Mia for Ronan being gay.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | March 20, 2020 1:16 PM |
Two years ago. We had threads on it. And he wasn't really "in" before that, he was seen with his partner frequently.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | March 20, 2020 1:21 PM |
You can't link to Facebook anymore but if you search for "Pod Save American Gothic" "Ronan Farrow" you'll find a post on his Facebook from five years ago where he's obviously dating Jon Lovett.

That's it, R16? In some obscure speech to a small audience he said he's "part of the LGBT community"?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | March 20, 2020 2:17 PM |
R12, also, except for the lesbians in Manhattan I don’t recall a gay character in his movies (i haven’t seen the latest ones, though).
Roman is insufferable.

What does an openly gay person need to do to “come out”? I have never been closeted. I assume everyone knows I am gay and I expect people to figure it oit if it matters to them. I don’t even announce it to the most clueless of people. If I ever became publicly known for any reason, I would not convene a press conference for a grand announcement that I like to suck dick. How archaic.

(R20) Exactly! Did Billy Porter make a dramatic statement? He'd better, cause' how else would we know?
by Anonymous | reply 21 | March 20, 2020 3:05 PM |
Billy Porter is a closet case! I hate him! And Ronan! Guuuuurl!
by Anonymous | reply 22 | March 20, 2020 3:07 PM |
Ronan was on Marc Maron’s podcast a while back and pushed back when Maron referred to him as gay. Apparently Ronan is a bit unsure of what to label himself, and said “Maybe” when Maron then asked if he was “fluid.” Ronan said he has had relationships with men and women.

I know many people here reject anything that’s not gay or straight. But Ronan seems to present himself as ‘something else’ from what I see. Years ago, he put up some fucking H-O-T face pics that were close to an ideal-looking guy for my tastes. More recently, he has grown his hair long, practically in a standard working-gal-in-the-city bob. When his hair is short, his features can look beautiful from some angles. His girly hairdo is not flattering, but for whatever reason, it’s his preference. He doesn’t seem masculine or effeminate to me. He seems like something else. What that is, I don’t know. His head is disproportionately large for his body. He has unusually short arms and tiny doll-like hands. I don’t mean it in a cruel way at all, but I feel like he is chromosomally...different than most. Maybe an XXY or something?
by Anonymous | reply 24 | March 20, 2020 3:18 PM |
R16, holy shit! Quickly scrolling past that picture, I thought it was Frank Sinatra!
by Anonymous | reply 25 | March 20, 2020 3:44 PM |
Farrow is under no obligation to be a role model, spokesman, icon, crusader or a gay rights advocate. Let the man live his life as he sees fit. I truly understand homosexuals who have a need for external validation from celebrities. Isn't their own sense of being enough?
