Marlene Dietrich Would Sit At Home Writing Ugly Messages On Celebs Faces

Seems perfectly normal to me.

What a disgraceful worthless cunt.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | March 3, 2020 4:17 PM |
But did she draw jizz on them?
by Anonymous | reply 3 | March 3, 2020 4:19 PM |
As long as she wasn't posting the results online I think it was fairly harmless.
Anyway - by the time Judy Garland thinks you're a crazy wreck, not much you do or think is going to matter.

ONE! OF! US!
ONE! OF! US!

Marlene Dietrich? Oh Mary! Would we even recognize the celebs she 'slandered'?

Look, OP: You're old, you're nearly dead, you have to do SOMETHING to pass the time.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | March 3, 2020 7:22 PM |
Is that pic of Streep?
She needs to reacquaint her knees. Seagulls are flocking.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | March 3, 2020 7:26 PM |
Mer Mer and her Let's Wear Curtains phase.
One expected she'd get over it eventually......
by Anonymous | reply 16 | March 3, 2020 8:34 PM |
That sounds amaZing and like so much fun! When I was a gayling in 90s I had an internship at a casting agents office. I would take home stacks of headshots to review them for open roles and auditions. Me and my friend set up a table, got high and with glasses of wine we would write horrible and bitchy remarks on the headshots. I was a DL kunt early on.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | March 3, 2020 8:40 PM |
we used to do that to the voting pamphlet they would send out with the official list of candidates for each local office.
and the newspaper Montgomery Ward sale enclosure.

Marlene Dietrich’s mind was sharp at the time of her death. She was a highly intelligent. brilliant woman, but she was embittered and negative in her late years. She was very opinionated about other celebrities. Meryl Streep’s nose irritated her enormously. (Per her Marlene’s daughter, Maria Riva.).
She hated the following celebrities:
Yul Brynner. They had a passionate love affair that ended badly. He ended the affair and she angry and bitter. She celebrated when she discovered his death from lung cancer.
Elizabeth Taylor: Marlene hated Elizabeth with a passion. She was jealous. Marlene had love affairs with Michael Wilding, Mike Todd and Eddie Fisher. Elizabeth Taylor married these men. That Marlene herself was married, while she had those affairs, was irrelevant. Also, she was somewhat jealous of Elizabeth’s humanitarianism regarding AIDS.
Jean Arthur: Marlene worked with Jean on a movie. She hated her and called her an “ugly, ugly plucked chicken.”
Ray Milland: She hated him, understandably. He called her an “old bag” and he didn’t want to work on a film with her.
More to follow...
by Anonymous | reply 19 | March 3, 2020 9:35 PM |
The only one she loved and admired was Kate Hepburn. She's ok in my book.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | March 3, 2020 10:00 PM |
Bitch, please. I used to do that every week to the TV Guide. My parents had to hide it when company came over because Morgan Brittany might have a thought bubble reading, "I'm retarded." on the cover.
(I was in elementary school; the wit had not yet been refined by the DL Bitches.)
by Anonymous | reply 21 | March 3, 2020 10:22 PM |
Wow, r19, she was a cunt!

R19 here. Marlene’s Hate List continued:
Claudette Colbert: Marlene considered an ugly, low class French shopgirl. (It was rumored they had an affair.)
Angie Dickinson: Burt Bacharach was Marlene’s music conductor/arranger for her nightclub concerts. When he married Angie Dickinson, Marlene said Angie smiled too much. She wonder how he can stand a woman who smiles all the time. (Marlene tried to seduce Burt, but he escaped.)
Greta Garbo: It was rumored that Marlene had an affair with Garbo. Publicly, Marlene disliked her and she enjoyed hearing of Garbo’s death from renal failure. Ironically, Marlene died with the same disease.) Whenever a person would mention Marlene’s silent movies, she denied appearing in them. Only Garbo “made silent films”.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | March 4, 2020 12:48 AM |
Marlene’s Hate List Continued:
Judy Garland: Marlene Dietrich disliked Judy Garland for some unknown reasons. She and Judy were at a public event in the 1950s. Marlene hugged and praised Judy. She was very careful because Judy had a huge gay fan base. She didn’t want to anger Judy’s fans. They were ferociously protective of Judy. Marlene, of course, had huge gay and lesbian fan base. She didn’t want to anger her own fans. She was later upset when Judy did a Dietrich imitation (in fun), on a television show. The Dietrich image was sacrosanct. She was fiercely protective of it.
Madeline Kahn: Marlene was furious about Madeline’s parody of the Dietrich image in “Blazing Saddles”. No one ever made fun of Dietrich’s image. The image was sacrosanct.
Madonna: Dietrich’s opinion of Madonna, is unknown. (To the best of my knowledge.) Marlene Dietrich is Madonna’s idol. Madonna desperately wanted meet her. Marlene ignored her calls and didn’t acknowledge knowing anything about Madonna. Dietrich likely considered Madonna as cheap and vulgar, if she even thought of her at all. Marlene was a recluse and would have never allowed Madonna a visit anyway. If by chance, they would’ve met, Dietrich would’ve made mincemeat out of Madonna.

This makes her love even more. Re-watched Witness for the Prosecution last week for the umpteenth time. She's positively brilliant in it--certainly deserved a nomination over ridiculous Lana Turner in Peyton Place, simpering Taylor in Raintree Country, hammy Magnani in Wild is the Wind, and even the winner, Joanne Woodward in Three Faces of Eve (in retrospect, more a triumph for the daily or). only Deborah Kerr in Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison was equal to MD's Christine Vole that year.
And Elsa Lanchester gave a subtle, more interesting performance than Some-Say-Flower-Like Miyoshi Umeki in Sayonara.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | March 4, 2020 3:00 AM |
But she loved Tina Turner. She thought Tina would be perfect for a remake of The Blue Angel.

by Anonymous | reply 31 | March 4, 2020 3:20 AM |

To today's, that is
by Anonymous | reply 33 | March 4, 2020 3:25 AM |
Garland often told the story of how Dietrich would tell everyone she wanted to play an album of her live concert highlights. She'd say "here I am in Budapest" and then all she'd do is play the applause. Garland should have been grateful because that had to be better than hearing her sing.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | March 4, 2020 3:54 AM |
Judy should have had a record of people throwing bread rolls at her drunk ass.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | March 4, 2020 4:05 AM |
Dietrich was a better actress than she was given credit for.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | March 4, 2020 4:11 AM |
She thought Madonna was trash. She called and complained to all around her that France was morally collapsing after then Prime Minister Chirac appeared in a photo with Madonna at an anti-HIV charity thing in the France Soir newspaper. She couldn't believe Chirac would agree to appear in a photograph with her. Not that he had the choice anyway.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | March 4, 2020 7:03 AM |
R27, Around 1987, Madonna wanted to meet Marlene to discuss remaking "The Blue Angel," which Alan Parker was to have directed. Marlene refused and supposedly sniffed, "I [italic]played[/italic] vulgar; she [italic]is[/italic] vulgar."
On assessing the current crop of entertainers, Marlene is quoted as saying, "Madonna sings badly and is very vulgar, but her show is impeccable. The public never makes a mistake."
by Anonymous | reply 41 | March 4, 2020 7:03 AM |
[quote]Not that he had the choice anyway.
Chirac hosted the reception in her honor in Paris City Hall. She, in turn, handed him a check for 500,000 francs ($83,000 US) for AIDS research. His critics ridiculed him for feting a pop star; one saying, "I thought Chirac only liked military marches."
by Anonymous | reply 42 | March 4, 2020 7:15 AM |
R26, I had no idea Dietrich disliked Colbert. They seemed so sympatico here:
by Anonymous | reply 43 | March 4, 2020 7:30 AM |
From the clip of Judy at R35: "Well, Marlene isn't one of our better singers." Uff! Did a skunk named 'Judy' arrive at her doorstep the next day?
by Anonymous | reply 44 | March 4, 2020 7:39 AM |
hilarious. Deitrich was bedridden at this time,by choice and a long term drug addict and alcoholic, again by choice. But she was the diva of all time, ruthless.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | March 4, 2020 7:45 AM |
Marlene was one of the least talented singers ever. She also had a lot of pain and struggle throughout her life. Despite that she had a good heart, which is hard to find in Paris. At a time when gay men were oppressed beyond belief they identified with her struggles and she theirs.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | March 4, 2020 7:54 AM |

R47, it is what was reported in the LA Times and other papers.

[45] So agree with you. Get to love Marlene more and more. Style Queen to end them all. When Maurice Chevalier (a known tightwad) gave her a ring with a cluster of pearls, she tossed it into a dish she kept on her dressing table with all the other wedding rings etc lovers had given her saying "how sweet. Itsy bitsy pearly Whirly's!"

It’s sad that Dietrich and Hepburn ended up as old bitter shrews.

Ick. She had awful taste.
Not surprising though, they were both humorless lesbians.

Was she a real trooper? I wonder how much of her support for troops was career motivated...
by Anonymous | reply 54 | March 4, 2020 4:32 PM |
Yul Brynner was drop DEAD GORGEOUS , and Streep was and still remains a beautiful woman. The Kramer vs. Kramer era was where she was at peak beauty. Gorgeous cheekbones, that long, golden hair.
Too bad Dietrich was so hateful, because she was beautiful as well.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | March 4, 2020 4:39 PM |
MAD Magazine said it best about Madge in the early 1990s:
“Why do we believe [her] when she speaks out in PSAs against AIDS when she practically demonstrates how to get AIDS in her music videos?”

[quote]Streep was and still remains a beautiful woman. The Kramer vs. Kramer era was where she was at peak beauty. Gorgeous cheekbones, that long, golden hair.
Streep was stunning then (once she got pregnant she lost something and has looked frauish since) and she had a genuine natural beauty. Marlene's beauty was all smoke and mirrors. A little like Joan Collins: looks amazing for her age but take off the wig and makeup...

How does she get the celebs to sit still while she does it?
by Anonymous | reply 61 | March 4, 2020 5:59 PM |
If I had been at a party with Marlene, I certainly would have wanted her to come sit next to me.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | March 4, 2020 11:50 PM |
IIRC, Marlene used actual pins (like safety pins or stick pins) to pull her skin back, and then hid the pins with her hair. I guess if you stick yourself, it only bleeds for a minute and you can smear Vaseline over the wound and put a bandaid on it? I'm pretty sure that's in her biography by her daughter but I don't have the book to check and see.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | March 4, 2020 11:59 PM |
She was terrified of being captured by the Germans during WWII - they probably would've publicly executed her - but she went to the front lines to entertain American and British troops anyway. That took a lot of courage.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | March 5, 2020 12:05 AM |
Dietrich was equally harsh about her own appearance, she was a recluse for the last years of her life partly because she no longer looked like Dietrich.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | March 5, 2020 12:18 AM |
[quote]The only one she loved and admired was Kate Hepburn
Not true. She adored Tina Turner and wanted Tina to play her in a movie.

They weren't sitting, Rose.
They were (pant pant pant eye-bulge) prostrate.

R65, Miss Dietrich did not use "pins."
She used hairpins. If you don't understand the technique, at least stop making up crap because your other fraus like your little "stories."
She used hairpins wrapped around her hair tightly and then had them pulled back to pull her face back with them. She used tape. And she used a thin gold chain that she had under her chin pulled behind her ears and hid it under her hair. She also used a clip-and-strap system when her hair styles permitted.
She did not play Pinhead to your Hellraiser fantasies.
Christ. No one should have to defend Dietrich for anything, as off as she got, but facts are facts, Missy.

Her daughter Maria Riva Dietrich bio of her mother is really first rate. Best of the type I've read. It is not a hatchet job like Davis and Crawford brats. Maria is a fascinating and articulate . She gives a balanced critical yet loving portrait of her mother who she always refers to as DIETRICH. A must read.
