Homefront (Early 1990s TV Show)

Anyone remember it?

Kyle Chandler was an object of my tween affectionate awakening.

I didn’t realize John Slattery was in it.

Do you remember the series? Did you like it?

I never watched it, but I'm here for any thread that involves Kyle Chandler.

I loved this show!

And younger John Slattery was sex on a stick.

Me, too. A shame he turned to be a Trump asshole.

I used to scratch a ballpoint pen across any pics of Kyle's wife in People until I couldn't see her.

I loved this show, which is how I knew it wouldn't last.

by Anonymousreply 7March 3, 2020 4:42 PM

It must have been fairly expensive to do a show with a cast that huge set in the 40s.

by Anonymousreply 8March 3, 2020 4:44 PM

So many good story arcs all going on at the same time.

by Anonymousreply 9March 3, 2020 4:45 PM

I liked it very much. I wish it had continued.

by Anonymousreply 10March 3, 2020 4:48 PM

I liked it, but I [italic]loved[/italic] I'll Fly Away, the other, concurrent show that took place in America's recent past. Also, my best friend, with whom I watched Homefront, died in September, 1992, and I couldn't watch it anymore after that.

Did he own the TV?

Nooooooooooooo, don't tell me these things!

I LOVED THIS SHOW!!! Of all the short-lived TV show cancellations, this one hurt me the most. I tend to like movies and TV shows set in the 40s. Homefront dealt with some good post-war issues including Holocaust survivors and racism. Along with that, it was just an entertaining show. The romance of Jeff Metcalf (a very young Kyle Chandler) and Ginger Szabo (Tammy Lauren) were a couple that took everyone by surprise and yet became the couple of the show. The series opening shot of Ginger running in the wedding dress to meet the fiance that didn't work out matching with the closing shot of her again running in her wedding dress to meet up with Jeff was pretty awesome.

Has a DVD or Blue-ray collection been made of this show? I would buy it in a heartbeat. Truly one of the best short-lived shows that ever appeared on TV.

BUMP!

I used to watch this with my family and my grandmother, who was young during this era, loved it. I posted it because I was thinking of her. The show managed to present that time in history in a way familiar to her but also informative and entertaining to me, with an appropriately contemporary view of the black family who had to work so hard and put up with so much bullshit (with smiles!) compared with the relatively easy lives of the white people.

I loved this show, OP. Beautiful costumes, gorgeous cast and pro-union. What wasn't to love?

by Anonymousreply 17March 5, 2020 12:09 AM

It was very well constructed and beautifully art directed, and ABC should have stuck with it. But it probably cost a fortune.

Mimi Kennedy's uberbitch character was a great villain, Wendy Phillips did her earth-mother thing as only Wendy Phillips could, and John Slattery and Kyle Chandler were in their prime. There was also a devious British bitch, IIRC, and they added Kelly Rutherford as a backup bitch as the series went on.

You're such a cunt, r12. I hope something you deserve happens to you.

by Anonymousreply 20March 5, 2020 12:16 AM

Back then Seinfeld and Homefront were my two favorite shows on television.

by Anonymousreply 21March 5, 2020 12:17 AM

Kyle Chandler. That is all.

by Anonymousreply 22March 5, 2020 12:20 AM

I was all about Harry O'Reilly. Poor guy, his English Muffin was blocking and killing all his sperm.

Flatterer!

Does anyone know if this excellent series has been released on DVD or Blu-ray?

by Anonymousreply 26March 5, 2020 11:35 AM

No it has not. I would love to buy it if it ever does.

by Anonymousreply 27March 5, 2020 11:55 PM

I lived for this show during the first season, but then it seemed to lose something in the second season and I started missing episodes. When it was cancelled, I was upset that I'd missed the remaining episodes.
