I’m Gen Y and I know we were annoying - but Gen Z growing up with such vapid, easy-money schemes available to them will make them even more insufferable as adults. I’m surprised that even more wholesome-type 18-y.o.s are now open to the idea of life-streaming their most private moments to the whole world, including even for fapping 70-y.o.s.

It seems like a sweet deal, R70. But the downside is that many 18-y.o.s have no verbal filter and little self-awareness - and the age of easily-shared video tech encourages them to babble & ramble on video :). So every single stupid or controversial remark they make is now recorded forever - and can be used against them at a future time (“cancel culture” or employer’s online searches).

It’s actually not that great to be 18 and to be duped into having everything you say recorded. It’s kinda risky professionally. Older people usually know to be more discreet and pick their words more carefully - but 18-y.o.s will often say things that are better left unsaid and slip up more often, especially in non-editable live streams. And to have all those slip-ups recorded and shared worldwide can turn into a nightmare.

At least with young actors and other mainstream young celebs - they have handlers who can help them keep to an acceptable script (e.g. the Harry Potter young stars). But these 18-y.o. TikTok stars are often self-managed - which results in more frequent public falls from grace.

Plus, TikTok is owned by a Chinese company so who knows where your personal info will end up.

And for the straight model-type guys, saying they’re “not into labels” can also be a financial boost $$. That way they don’t come across as too ‘average, boring, plain-vanilla straight’ - but ‘cool, unusual, edgy pan-sexual’ instead. Plus, a lot of these straight guys want modelling contracts - and they potentially want to tease potential gay photographers & gay designers for lucrative ad-campaign jobs by hinting that they’re not averse to “sexual experimentation”. By not saying that they’re straight and off-limits - they leave the door open to try to fool influential gay designers, photographers & agents into believing they have a shot with them.

Basically, saying one is “not into labels” or is “pansexual” can be financially quite cunning and lucrative.
