I'm shocked she's pulling out before tomorrow's Minnesota vote ... unless she thinks she won't win the state.

by Anonymousreply 8March 2, 2020 5:40 PM

Fuck I don't want Biden. It’s hard to listen to him talk with all his gaffes and stumbles.

by Anonymousreply 9March 2, 2020 5:40 PM

If she wants Biden to win, she should have stayed in for Minnesota to siphon votes from Sanders. She wasn't going to take that many in other places I'm sure.

by Anonymousreply 10March 2, 2020 5:40 PM

R10, I was thinking that, too. I don't know that her supporters will turn out for Biden.

by Anonymousreply 11March 2, 2020 5:41 PM

The thinning of the herd continues.

by Anonymousreply 12March 2, 2020 5:42 PM

It's clear neither Pete nor Amy want to be saddled with accusations of contributing to what they assume will be a spectacular Sanders flameout in the general.

by Anonymousreply 13March 2, 2020 5:42 PM

Why is everyone in such a rush to drop out?

Biden won one state, and all of a sudden he becomes the sure thing?! Why didn't Pete get that narrative when he won Iowa??

by Anonymousreply 14March 2, 2020 5:42 PM

This is actually good. The media will truly focus on Bernie v. Biden.

by Anonymousreply 28March 2, 2020 5:50 PM

Maybe Michelle Obama can endorse Biden before President Obama.

by Anonymousreply 29March 2, 2020 5:50 PM

Now the two ancient dudes can have heart attacks, and Warren can win

by Anonymousreply 30March 2, 2020 5:51 PM

Wow they are dropping like flies

by Anonymousreply 31March 2, 2020 5:51 PM

Obama has already told Biden he's staying in the wings.

by Anonymousreply 32March 2, 2020 5:51 PM

Who's next? I'm thinking Bloomberg before Warren.

by Anonymousreply 33March 2, 2020 5:51 PM

[quote]Obama needs to endorse Biden ASAP.

Today: A person close to Obama told CNN that the former president’s view has not changed: He has no immediate plans to offer an endorsement of Biden — or anyone — as the nominating contest heads into Super Tuesday. “We are skeptical that an endorsement coming from us could truly change the political winds right now,” the person close to Obama told CNN. If Obama were to endorse Biden, the person said, there is “a very real chance it backfires.”

by Anonymousreply 34March 2, 2020 5:52 PM

Obama said he is not going to endorse anyone and apparently told Pete it was up to him if he wanted to endorse anyone.

by Anonymousreply 35March 2, 2020 5:52 PM

R9 = twelve years old

by Anonymousreply 36March 2, 2020 5:52 PM

Kamala won't happen. She's not that special. And if Joe Biden will forgive her for that dirty trick about the buses, you have to figure his wife or his advisors won't.

Maybe Amy. I still think there's a black man or woman out there who is credible but is not in DL's constellation of stars for the job. He might pull Patrick. He might pull Booker. Fuck, he might pull Bakari Sellers (who's been suspiciously complimentary about JB on CNN of late given how hard he was when he was backing Harris.) Anyway I don't know who it will be any more than anybody else but I do feel confident Kamala doesn't add much to the ticket relative to other choices and there's got to be bad blood over the cheap shot. I think it will be hard for her get past go based on that.

by Anonymousreply 37March 2, 2020 5:52 PM

R28: Not a chance in hell. Obama views himself as the one will unite the party after this is all over. He will not involve himself in this.

by Anonymousreply 38March 2, 2020 5:52 PM

Klobuchar's campaign has been running on fumes as far as cash for a while. I suspect Super Tuesday was never in the cards for her. She was just buying time to dropout.

by Anonymousreply 39March 2, 2020 5:52 PM

"I'm thinking Bloomberg before Warren."

Forget Bloomberg, he'll be running even AFTER Biden is nominated.

by Anonymousreply 66March 2, 2020 6:05 PM

DALLAS — Senator Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, who entered the Democratic presidential race with an appeal to moderate voters and offered herself as a candidate who could win in Midwestern swing states, has decided to quit the race and endorse a rival, former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr., according to a person close to Ms. Klobuchar.

Ms. Klobuchar will appear with Mr. Biden at his rally in Dallas Monday night. The decision comes one day after former Mayor Pete Buttigieg of South Bend, Ind., departed the race, and after weeks of Democratic Party hand-wringing about a crowded field of moderate candidates splitting a finite field of centrist votes, allowing Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont to march forward unopposed among progressives and amass delegates.

Ms. Klobuchar, despite a strong third-place finish in New Hampshire, lagged her moderate rivals in every other state and was often seen as a candidate siphoning support. Though she had varying levels of support across the Super Tuesday map, polling within reach of leading candidates in some predominantly Republican states with open primaries, but it is unclear how much of a boost any of her rivals will see in the wake of Ms. Klobuchar’s exit, or where she may direct her 7 delegates.

The senator from Minnesota shocked her rivals with a surprising third-place finish in New Hampshire, placing ahead of better-known candidates like Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Mr. Biden.

But aside from New Hampshire, Ms. Klobuchar struggled deeply, lagging all of her competitors in Iowa, Nevada and South Carolina. Though her campaign received a much-needed influx of cash after New Hampshire — $12 million in just over a week — it proved too little, too late for the campaign to rapidly scale up and compete with her better funded and better organized rivals.

The Klobuchar campaign was constantly rescheduling events, oftentimes releasing public advisories for an event with less than 24 hours advance notice. One “get out the caucus” rally in Nevada at Rancho High School attracted less than 100 people. Days before, Pete Buttigieg, the former mayor of South Bend, Ind., brought more than 1,200 to the same school.

Ms. Klobuchar was forced to cancel a rally in her own backyard Sunday night, after protesters from Black Lives Matter and other local civil rights groups took over the stage in St. Louis Park, Minn. They were calling attention to the case of Myon Burrell, a black man convicted of murder as a teenager while Ms. Klobuchar was county attorney.

Recent news reports have raised questions about the case, including numerous reported flaws with the prosecution. Ms. Klobuchar, while stopping short of apologizing, has called for the case to be reviewed.

The frantic scramble to build out a national campaign followed a diligent and relentless focus on Iowa. Ms. Klobuchar was the first 2020 candidate to visit all 99 counties, and spent most of her time, money and field staff deployed to the state. Her self-described “gritty” effort in Iowa kept her on the debate stage, meeting polling thresholds in early states rather than in national polls.

by Anonymousreply 67March 2, 2020 6:06 PM

With a calm but prosecutorial demeanor mixed with a dry sense of humor, Ms. Klobuchar slowly built momentum through consecutive debate performances, seeing immediate spikes in cash and volunteers. But she never experienced a true “viral moment” — something she lamented in the closing days of her campaign while speaking in Nashville — forcing her to run a threadbare operation in every state outside of Iowa.

Ms. Klobuchar famously kicked off her campaign in the middle of a blizzard a year ago, her nearly hourlong presidential announcement marked by the piles of snow that accumulated on her hatless head as she debuted her centrist message.

On the campaign trail, she would refer frequently to her snowy beginnings as she continually pitched her Midwestern roots as a presidential credential, arguing that her “I live here” heartland appeal could win back states like Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin, which President Trump carried in 2016.

As a perpetual and direct contrast to the vocal liberal base of the Democratic Party, Ms. Klobuchar stubbornly stuck to a moderate message, one she hoped would appeal to independents and moderate Republicans. She vocally opposed “Medicare for all,” and built one of her most popular stump speech lines around defending the Affordable Care Act, claiming that it was “10 points more popular than the guy in the White House Right now.”

Her campaign also amounted to a bet that in a deeply polarized electorate, a bipartisan voting record could still be viewed as an asset in the Democratic electorate. She regularly touted the more than 100 bills that she passed during her 14-year Senate career, and name-checked Republican senators that she frequently worked with in her stump speech.

But her bipartisan record also carried some risk; she was among the most likely Democratic senators to vote for a Trump judicial nominee, a point seized on by rivals like Mr. Buttigieg in debates.

She struggled more than any other candidate to attract support in minority communities, particularly among black voters. She faced calls from local civil rights organizations in Minneapolis, including the N.A.A.C.P. chapter, to suspend her campaign after news reports raised questions about a murder conviction of a black teenager under her tenure.

As she made her final run, Ms. Klobuchar abandoned South Carolina, the first state to vote with a meaningful black population, four days early. And her Super Tuesday campaign swing through 11 different states avoided the two biggest, and most diverse: Texas and California.

But the senator kept her message upbeat throughout the campaign, and she always had her New Hampshire finish to point to, as she did in Nashville a few days before Super Tuesday.

“We have been really, really beating the odds,” she said.

by Anonymousreply 68March 2, 2020 6:06 PM

Amy sure as fuck didn’t drop out before Super Tuesday and immediately endorse Biden without having a deal in place for VP. She’s not a novice like Mayor Pete.

by Anonymousreply 70March 2, 2020 6:07 PM

by Anonymousreply 74March 2, 2020 6:09 PM

R69... I imagine Pete is playing a different game. He's 37 (8?)... in a decade he'll still be young as a candidate. He's probably playing a long game and knows his next move is beef up his creds and broaden his constituencies. Pete has the luxury of name recognition and time.

by Anonymousreply 75March 2, 2020 6:09 PM

R74, the uncertainty and fear of Bernie shows that it's no coronation.

At least the hot head's finally getting her trend on Twitter.

by Anonymousreply 87March 2, 2020 6:16 PM

Biden will need someone less moderate, someone who can maybe inspire some of the Bernie supporters. There has to be balance this time. We can't ignore the progressive wing of the party and hope they'll just go along with whomever is put forth, as we've seen in the past, they won't.

by Anonymousreply 116March 2, 2020 6:46 PM

Bloomberg needs to tank in Florida tomorrow. That'll be it.

by Anonymousreply 117March 2, 2020 6:46 PM

Time for Bloomberg and Sanders to both drop out.

by Anonymousreply 118March 2, 2020 6:48 PM

Florida doesn't vote tomorrow R117

by Anonymousreply 119March 2, 2020 6:49 PM

Pod Save loves whomever BLM and young minorities love.

by Anonymousreply 120March 2, 2020 6:49 PM

R119, thanks for that correction. Indeed it's 3/17.

[quote]What has Bernie Sanders ever done for the Democratic Party?

You mean, apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, a fresh water system, and public health?

Oh, wait, that was the Romans. Carry on.

by Anonymousreply 123March 2, 2020 6:57 PM

R9, I'd like to see you speak as well if you were a former stutterer.

by Anonymousreply 124March 2, 2020 6:58 PM

Didnt Biden have a meeting with Stacey Abrams a bit ago?

I think he may pick her as VP he will owe his survival to black voters who rescued his campaign and he may choose her as a "thank you" to them

by Anonymousreply 125March 2, 2020 6:59 PM

OMG, it’s going to be the battle of the old white guys. We’re fucked!

by Anonymousreply 126March 2, 2020 7:00 PM

Bernie Sanders is not a Democrat. He has only used and insulted the Democratic Party. He is not here to build, only lie and destroy.

Fuck him. I am gleeful to see the Democrats finally coming together, putting egos aside, and working together to do something to try and get someone decent elected and Bernie shuffled off into the other. It's about damn time!

by Anonymousreply 127March 2, 2020 7:01 PM

Why is that R126 you racist troll?

by Anonymousreply 128March 2, 2020 7:05 PM

I think r126 is implying he'd liked a young white guy. Buttegieg perhaps?

by Anonymousreply 129March 2, 2020 7:08 PM

Joe Biden is an old out of touch man who has spent his whole career in politics protecting the status quo.

Say no to Status Quo Joe.

by Anonymousreply 130March 2, 2020 7:10 PM

OH man and all those people who acted like they were in the know, claimed Biden wanted her to stay in until after Minnesota voted to keep Bernie from winning Minnesota.

by Anonymousreply 131March 2, 2020 7:12 PM

I think Biden would be stupid not to pick Stacey Abrams. I know, I know, posters on here going to go on about how she didn't even win in Georgia, but she came pretty fucking close to doing so, and may have won had it not been for voter purges. And she seems left enough to consolidate that base, as well as locking up the black vote. My second choice would be Kamala, because she will wipe the floor with Pence if a debate ever happens. She's my top choice in 2024.

But the Bernie Bros, who knows what's going through their minds. I'm pretty sure Biden supporters would coalesce around Bernie, but I'm not sure his supporters would do the same to Biden. That's a kind of scary position to be in.

If Biden does end up being the nominee, it's important to remember that, well he may not dramatically improve anything, he will at least stop it from getting worse.

by Anonymousreply 132March 2, 2020 7:12 PM

[quote] Joe Biden is an old out of touch man

so I can vote for old out of touch Bernie, no thanks

by Anonymousreply 133March 2, 2020 7:13 PM

R23, if you're not showing that you can win beyond the lily white states then funds dry up pretty quickly. He wasn't polling well with Latinos and AAs and SC showed he wasn't getting their vote.

by Anonymousreply 134March 2, 2020 7:13 PM

r130 -- So you're going to support one of the other two old, out of touch men (Bernie and Bloomberg)? Joe is the youngest of the three remaining candidates

by Anonymousreply 135March 2, 2020 7:14 PM

Can't most of you see this is 2016 all over again. The DNC backed establishment candidate will lose. Report after report in 2016 had interviews with people in swing states who voted for Trump, not the hate filled loonies, but the ones like those who had voted twice for Obama, said they would have voted for Bernie, but never Hillary. God so fucking many stupid people. We are fucked and you're celebrating the loser of the 2020 election.

I would like someone to tell me one thing Obama or Biden did for the poor and working people, unions and the working poor. They both tried several times to cut Social Security. The ACA did help some of the poor but screwed those not completely poor and since Obama kissed some more Republican ass he let the right get away with not making Medicaid mandatory in every state so the ACA people who wanted ACA were fucked in those states along with people with a little more income who were just generally fucked and ended up paying more, not less for insurance.

So the not so great ACA was the big accomplishment for both Biden and Obama. Things in those 8 years got much worse for black people who were not of means.

So tell me. Maybe I wasn't paying attention. Besides the so/so ACA what did Obama and Biden do in 8 years to help anyone other than those who already had money. Yes unemployment decreased but with lousy paying jobs that could not support a person, much less a family, so don't bother using that one.

by Anonymousreply 136March 2, 2020 7:15 PM

I want normalcy. I believe Biden can restore normalcy. I don't want revolution, transformation, charisma, or passion. I want incremental change and moderation.

by Anonymousreply 137March 2, 2020 7:17 PM

Money wasn't the reason Buttigieg dropped out according to one reports I saw last night. He just didn't want to be blamed for Bide losing super Tuesday. He'll get that Jill Stein stench on him and he'll never be able to be a leader in the party.

by Anonymousreply 138March 2, 2020 7:21 PM

R135, Bernie is the only one for change. Biden and his old school politics are gonna lose horribly like Hillary did.

by Anonymousreply 139March 2, 2020 7:22 PM

[quote] I would like someone to tell me one thing Obama or Biden did for the poor and working people, unions and the working poor.

I don't know enough to identify something, but what's your obsession with that segment of the citizenry?

Are you American? Capital rules this country. Money. Do you think a president is going to change the fundamental fabric of this country so that the well-being of the poor and working class will be our top priority?

America has its origins in the UK. Property rules in the UK. Property and later capital. It's always been that way.

If you want equality, find a way to move to Denmark or something.

You know who lost horribly? McGovern. Dukakis. Mondale. That's what a Bernie candidacy would look like.

by Anonymousreply 145March 2, 2020 7:30 PM

r139 - Keep telling yourself that. He doesn't even belong in the Democratic Party.

by Anonymousreply 146March 2, 2020 7:31 PM

Principles before Party. If more Republicans and Democrats were like Bernie we wouldnt be in such a terrible place with our current president.

Bernie or bust!!

by Anonymousreply 147March 2, 2020 7:31 PM

Biden is this election’s Mondale. I will vote for him if he is the nominee, but his nomination will likely lead to the death of the Democratic Party.

by Anonymousreply 148March 2, 2020 7:33 PM

At the end of the day, all politicians are terrible humans, who only run for office to better themselves.

I just want someone who won't royally screw it up for the rest of us. Biden was and remains the best chance we have this election cycle.

by Anonymousreply 149March 2, 2020 7:34 PM

r148 Mondale won TWO states (well, one state and DC.) Do you really think Joe Biden will only win two states? You're an idiot.

by Anonymousreply 150March 2, 2020 7:34 PM

R150, After Daddy Bernie and Trump get done with him? Absolutely! The guy has dementia. He can only ride Obama's coattails for so long. Older black voters only make up so much of the electorate

by Anonymousreply 151March 2, 2020 7:36 PM

[quote]I would like someone to tell me one thing Obama or Biden did for the poor and working people,

and why is it that Sanders supporters always question every other candidate and demand answers as to what that candidate has done or what their experience is but can never answer the same about Sanders?

by Anonymousreply 153March 2, 2020 7:38 PM

To whomever unthread screaming that Bernie gets the youth vote while Biden will lose about "47%" of them and all will be lost... Only 14% and 11% of the elect oat in NH and SC, respectively, were voters 18-29. Biden will survive just fine without them.

by Anonymousreply 154March 2, 2020 7:38 PM

CNN's Abby D. Phillip: A source familiar with the plans tells me Pete Buttigieg will endorse Joe Biden at a rally in Dallas tonight.

by Anonymousreply 155March 2, 2020 7:41 PM

Susan Rice just endorsed Biden -- his first significant Obama-world endorsement.

by Anonymousreply 156March 2, 2020 7:42 PM

Will Pete and Chasten get to go out and party with the Dallas gays tonight??

by Anonymousreply 157March 2, 2020 7:45 PM

r154

You aren't critically thinking. 11-14%+ is election determining.

by Anonymousreply 158March 2, 2020 7:46 PM

Sanders supporters: convince me that a man who has accomplished nothing of note in 30 years, been unable to create meaningful alliances with like minded people on the job in three decades while in the same position, gotten anything useful squared away in his long tenure or even managged to STAY AWAKE during the impeachment of a sitting president (as required and paid to fo) is going to bring about substantial change and revolution?

Convince me with facts. Evidence. Tell me how.

by Anonymousreply 159March 2, 2020 7:47 PM

R151 I just can't take anyone seriously who refers to Bernie as Daddy Bernie. I am an adult, and I look at elections rationally. In primaries, I vote for the person who aligns most closely to my own beliefs. If there are more than one, then I take other factors into account (electability, personality, temperament, etc...)

Cultlike devotion to God Emperor Trump, or Daddy Bernie, may be somewhat excusable in the young idealistic electorate, whose brains haven't finished forming. In an actual adult it is pathetic, and would be cause for pity if the future of this country wasn't at stake.

by Anonymousreply 160March 2, 2020 7:48 PM

Chris Hayes:

My read of the evidence we have is that it's pretty difficult to make the case that either Biden or Sanders is *clearly* a stronger general election nominee than the other.

by Anonymousreply 161March 2, 2020 7:48 PM

Jesus fucking Christ some of you are delusional.

People HATED Hillary Clinton with a passion.

The Bernie vs Hillary memes made it uncool for anyone under 30 to support her

And so lots of people voted against her just to show her up. Because they thought she was an entitled cunt

People may roll their eyes at Biden's gaffes, but nobody dislikes Joe, let alone hates him.

Then there's Trump

In 2016, people who hated Hillary talked themselves into believing that (a) he was just saying it to be elected and didn't mean it, (b) he'd get bored and let Javanka run everything and they were moderates, and (c) he was serious about things like improving the infrastructure and draining the swamp and Hillary was an awful she-devil so why not?

As we learned in 2018, all those people wised up and realized that Trump was more awful than anyone imagined.

So no, Biden 2020 in no way is comparable to Hillary 2016

by Anonymousreply 162March 2, 2020 7:48 PM

I'm sure TPTB had a sit down with Steyer, Pete, and Amy.

You all must drop out before Tuesday, and you each get your own day to do it so you all get to trend on Twitter for a hot minute. There will also be a special bonus prize for those who endorse Joe.

by Anonymousreply 163March 2, 2020 7:50 PM

And you're even worse at critically thinking, r158, if you think older moderates, which make up way more than 11 and 14% of the electorate, will vote for Bernie. I'd rather lose a minority of a minority of voters than a minority of the majority of voters.

by Anonymousreply 164March 2, 2020 7:52 PM

r136, this is not 2016.

This is another referendum on the malignant Trump presidency.

2018 Big Blue Wave v2.0

by Anonymousreply 165March 2, 2020 7:54 PM

Pete still gracious:

Campaigning beside @AmyKlobuchar I got to see firsthand the midwestern grit, determination and common sense that our country needs more of. I am thankful for the spirit and humor she brought to this race, and I look forward to working with her to build the country we all deserve.

by Anonymousreply 166March 2, 2020 7:55 PM

Good for Joe!!!! He was just at a rally telling everyone to "Be sure and vote on Super Thursday!" ... seriously....

I feel like I'm watching a movie. A satire.

by Anonymousreply 167March 2, 2020 7:55 PM

Pete and Amy have jobs secured in a Biden administration.

My guess is Ambassador to the United Nations for Pete, and Veep for Amy.

by Anonymousreply 168March 2, 2020 7:57 PM

As noted earlier BernieBro 2016 is not BernieBro 2020

In 2016 a lot of the Bernie supporters I knew wanted more change than Hillary offered, hated her and her entitled attitude, women were pissed that she took a spouse gig and made it seem like she'd been the one who had the job, thought we needed a fresh voice and were glad things like MFA were being discussed again. They were hopeful and felt good about Bernie, they weren't angry. They were pretty rational and most all of them voted for Hillary in the election.

In 2020, the people who are still Berners feel like they're in a cult, with cult-like convictions and fears and purity tests. They have a hard time relating to anyone outside the cult and don't interact much with people outside of it. And they seem to be angry most of the time.

I know my social circle is a small very bougie piece of the world, but that's where things stand now.

by Anonymousreply 169March 2, 2020 7:57 PM

And that's part of why people love Joe, R167. Is gaffes are relatable.

by Anonymousreply 170March 2, 2020 7:58 PM

And will cost him the nomination/presidency R170

by Anonymousreply 171March 2, 2020 8:00 PM

Amy on the ticket is how you lose black voters and Pete voters.

by Anonymousreply 172March 2, 2020 8:00 PM

[quote] Pete still gracious:- Campaigning beside @AmyKlobuchar I got to see firsthand the midwestern grit, determination and common sense that our country needs more of. Thanks, faggot. Now duck.

by Anonymousreply 173March 2, 2020 8:00 PM

I'm starting to feel that there's a lot of maneuvering and negotiations going on behind the scenes.

Tomorrow could just get interesting.

by Anonymousreply 174March 2, 2020 8:00 PM

Bingo R170

Joe is relatable.

And compared to all the gaffes Twitler makes, Joe's are mild. AND--this is key--he owns them and laughs about them. He doesn't take a Sharpie and try and deny them.

by Anonymousreply 175March 2, 2020 8:01 PM

I would love for Amy to vacate her Senate seat for any reason so Franken could return.

by Anonymousreply 176March 2, 2020 8:02 PM

There was no reason to hate Hillary. Unless you supported Republican lies.

R170. Those gaffes aren’t going to be so adorable when he starts pulling them on a national stage.

Bernie supporters know this is it for him. And many of them will have no problem doing the Republicans dirty work for them.

by Anonymousreply 177March 2, 2020 8:02 PM

Aw, r171, you're adorable if you think Joe's gaffes are worse than Trump's lies.

by Anonymousreply 178March 2, 2020 8:02 PM

R176. Still bitter that birthday pony never showed up.

by Anonymousreply 179March 2, 2020 8:02 PM

r174, I would have liked to have been a fly on the wall during Sunday School with Carter this weekend...

by Anonymousreply 180March 2, 2020 8:03 PM

Funny for all the burnouts cries about how entitled Hillary was, there is literally nobody more entitled than Bernie or one of his cultists. And that is truth.

by Anonymousreply 181March 2, 2020 8:03 PM

r164

I'm always seeing people like you downplay minority voters and it's a costly mistake. If their votes didn't matter Republicans wouldn't consistently be so desperate to suppress their votes.

by Anonymousreply 182March 2, 2020 8:05 PM

[quote] There was no reason to hate Hillary. Unless you supported Republican lies.

This is 100% why she lost.

Because she surrounded herself with people who made this their truth.

When the reality is that it didn't matter WHY people who otherwise voted for and liked liberal Democrats hated her with the heat of a million suns. Or whether that hate was justified or warranted or the result of A Vast Right Wing Conspiracy™

The fact was that it was there, it was never dealt with, it festered and grew and then it took her down.

by Anonymousreply 183March 2, 2020 8:05 PM

All the press and the pundits were wrong...what a bunch of idiots, Uh ate them because they will give our government back to Trump. CNN and MSNBC should be ashamed of themselves and admit they were ignorant assholes, putting down Biden.

by Anonymousreply 184March 2, 2020 8:08 PM

I did say that you idiot R178.

by Anonymousreply 185March 2, 2020 8:08 PM

R183. There is little difference policy wise between Hillary and Biden. So the excuses for hating Hillary have to do with her personality, which is a pathetic excuse. Like Fran Lebowitz said, you’re not dating a candidate, you’re electing them to get the job done.

If anything Biden is far more corporate friendly than both Clinton’s have ever been.

by Anonymousreply 186March 2, 2020 8:10 PM

R128 & R129 I want a woman, it’s about time. For god’s sake, it’s the 21st century. I’m done with old white guys. They’ve been at the top too long. I could have gone with Pete, reluctantly as my back up choice.

by Anonymousreply 187March 2, 2020 8:11 PM

R182, I'm not downplaying minority voters. If you follow the actual discussion I'm downplaying the 18 to 29 voters which make up a minority of the electorate.

If you're going to jump into the middle of a conversation at least read the Rs referenced in the posts before commenting.

by Anonymousreply 188March 2, 2020 8:17 PM

We're talking about the real world though R186

Not some fantasy land where Fran Lebowitz sets the rules.

I mean she's right, but unfortunately Americans vote for the guy they'd most like to have a beer with.

And everyone wants to have a beer with Uncle Joe.

by Anonymousreply 189March 2, 2020 8:18 PM

[quote]Liz will be Biden's VP pick. It would be the best strategic move they could make

That would be. A. DISASTER.

[quote] I want normalcy. I believe Biden can restore normalcy. I don't want revolution, transformation, charisma, or passion. I want incremental change and moderation.

You and 60% of America. The stakes are different this time around. Most Americans had no idea how ruinous a Trump Presidency would be to our well-being and security. The Constitution is in jeopardy. The Republican establishment believes that Trump will lose in November.

by Anonymousreply 194March 2, 2020 8:25 PM

[quote]why is the media forgetting the fact that Biden does not have all his marbles anymore? He's simply not viable. Bernie s our only hope.

Bernie is angry old man yelling at cloud. I wouldn't call that "having all your marbles."

by Anonymousreply 195March 2, 2020 8:25 PM

Biden is a moderate and would alienate his base if he chose a progressive. It won't be Warren.

by Anonymousreply 196March 2, 2020 8:26 PM

R194. Most Americans weren’t paying attention. Hillary warned you time and time again and you failed to listen.

by Anonymousreply 197March 2, 2020 8:29 PM

It would be fun if he chose Beto.

by Anonymousreply 198March 2, 2020 8:30 PM

Someone has a stapler-sized dent in their forehead today.

by Anonymousreply 199March 2, 2020 8:31 PM

He needs a young moderate democrat who can talk to poor whites and connect with them. I'd say Pete is a second, but his gayness could complicate that. I think we are all familiar with how it's still 1950 in Middle America when it comes to sexual orientation.

by Anonymousreply 200March 2, 2020 8:31 PM

Bernie fans are already starting in on Hunter Biden, parroting Fux 'News' talking points. I guess it's time to discuss Jane Sanders' $200k golden parachute from that university she bankrupted in Vermont and Bernie's $575k lake house a short distance from his primary residence in Burlington.

by Anonymousreply 201March 2, 2020 8:32 PM

By the way, according to the polls, Biden is still the underdog to Deadbeat Bernie, so let's not focus too much on his "VP pick" yet.

r201, not surprising, considering that Bernbots are photo-negative Trumpkins.

by Anonymousreply 202March 2, 2020 8:34 PM

The bros are so nasty. Now they are on Twitter and have gotten #WarrenEndorseBernie trending.

by Anonymousreply 203March 2, 2020 8:34 PM

Anyone want to contribute anything to what Bernie has done for the poor?

by Anonymousreply 204March 2, 2020 8:35 PM

I'll also settle for any noteworthy experience Bernie has to be President.

by Anonymousreply 205March 2, 2020 8:36 PM

[quote]Anyone want to contribute anything to what Bernie has done for the poor?

How dare you? Bernie sponsored a bill that became a law, to name a post office in Vermont. The poor, they love that shit.

by Anonymousreply 206March 2, 2020 8:40 PM

R204 Well, he abandoned his ex-girlfriend and his 5 year old son to live on welfare so that he could run for Senator as a socialist.

Oh, wait, that's something he did TO the poor. Sorry, about that.

by Anonymousreply 207March 2, 2020 8:42 PM

So what did the DNC use to threaten Pete & Amy to drop out. It has their fingerprints on this.

by Anonymousreply 208March 2, 2020 8:45 PM

[quote]Obama needs to endorse Biden ASAP.

That actually could backfire, causing Bernie supporters to once again accuse Democrats of "ganging up" on Sanders to stop him from getting the nomination, even though the DNC made changes to ease the path for him.

by Anonymousreply 209March 2, 2020 8:45 PM

The post above was accurate. Bern Bros are constantly DEMANDING that supporters of other candidates make lists of what their candidates have done for this and that and/or what experience/qualifications others have to take on the role of President... of course they'll dismiss anything and everything that they're ever presented with.

But when the tables are turned and you ask what Bernie has ever done? Radio silent.

It's the only way to get a Bern Bro to shut up.

by Anonymousreply 210March 2, 2020 8:50 PM

r208 Aha - the dreaded DNC are the culprits! Couldn't be that Pete and Amy had no chance of winning the nomination and were out of money? Occam's razor...

by Anonymousreply 211March 2, 2020 8:50 PM

r193, Biden himself is supposed to be the appeal to swing-state voters. That's been one of the arguments he's staked his candidacy on, that he could appeal to those white working class, middle-of-the-road voters that went for Trump in the last election. He needs someone beside him that can actually appeal to the other flank of the party that are more predisposed to progressive ideals and policies. Two moderates won't work. Liz would at least give a reason for disenchanted Bernie supporters to consider voting even if it means convincing themselves that they're voting moreso for her than for him.

by Anonymousreply 212March 2, 2020 8:52 PM

I really don’t want to vote for Biden *sigh*

by Anonymousreply 213March 2, 2020 8:53 PM

I've seen that from a lot of people regardless of who they support R210. This piling on to Bernie supporters is ridiculous. My first choice was Kamala and my second choice is Elizabeth BTW. It is amazing you don't see your own hypocrisy R210.

by Anonymousreply 214March 2, 2020 8:53 PM

And what hypocrisy is that, R214? Do tell.

by Anonymousreply 215March 2, 2020 8:57 PM

Maybe stay off Twitter

by Anonymousreply 216March 2, 2020 9:21 PM

Warren must stay.

by Anonymousreply 217March 2, 2020 9:28 PM

I for one hate Joe Biden. He and his machismo Listen, Jack and I'll Do 100 Push Ups Against You, Mack and I'll Jab My Finger in your Chest, Ester Williams routine is just pathetic. His is a total throwback to the mid 20th century. I'll have to vote for him I guess, but God almighty, is 4 years of him going to be hell.

And a reminder again, normalcy is gone and not returning. So you people expecting Biden to be inagurated and then it's magically 2008 again are going to be EXTREMELY disappointed. You should vote for him just for court appointments as opposed to wishing for a return to some phony "normalcy" that will never exist again.

by Anonymousreply 218March 2, 2020 9:29 PM

Who's most likely to bring us closer to normalcy? Are all the candidates equal in that respect?

by Anonymousreply 219March 2, 2020 9:31 PM

[quote]God almighty, is 4 years of him going to be hell.

Please. Four years of anyone who isn't Trump will seem like heaven. We've been in hell for the past three-plus years.

by Anonymousreply 220March 2, 2020 9:35 PM

I completely agree, r220. Plus like most presidents, Biden would just do the fucking job most days, and we would hear from him occasionally. by Anonymousreply 222March 2, 2020 10:06 PM

by Anonymousreply 223March 2, 2020 10:09 PM

I'd be surprised if he endorsed him his early, but if Biden is nominated (still seems like an uphill battle at this point) Obama better be out there campaigning for him like crazy. I'm not actually too convinced either Biden or Sanders will beat Trump, but I think Obama still has some magic influence that might make the difference.

Sanders supporters should be thinking: "Oh great! A narrower field! Here's our chance to pick up some new voters!"

But no. That would be strategic. And involve compromise. And negotiation.

And Sanders has never figured out how to do any of that.

Which is precisely why he's never accomplished anything of note during his thirty years in Congress.

by Anonymousreply 241March 2, 2020 10:46 PM

All this underscores the folly of anybody talking VP now.

First, it's presumptuous, seldom a good look.

Second, candidates need vetting. Hello, most of Trump's first picks.

Third, there's no data. Research should be done to understand the characteristics that matter most to the politics of a good pick. (i.e. Steve Bullock or Pete might be awesome in competence, but problematic or low value in terms of broad political appeal. I'd want to poll the hell out of what black Democrats/voters want in a Veep candidate.) Veep isn't a consolation prize, runner up or a merit badge. A good pick supports, strengthens and enhances the ticket. Look at Tim Kaine..... (rolling eyes.)

From WaP{o:

Biden says he would ask Buttigieg to join his administration if he wins presidency

In an interview with a reporter for a Houston TV station, Biden suggested he would invite Buttigieg to be a member of his administration if he wins the presidency.

“I did speak to Pete Buttigieg a couple of days ago, to encourage him to stay engaged, because he has enormous talent,” Biden told KHOU’s Marcelino Benito. “And I indicated to him that if I became the nominee, I’d be coming and asking him to be part of an administration and that he’d be engaged and moving things forward.”

Biden added that he had just heard that Klobuchar had suspended her campaign.

“She is also a great talent,” he said.

2016 is in the rearview, time to put it there. You're not up against your nemesis Hilary - who's long gone home, sitting comfy in Bedford (or wherever) tonight. Wake up It's 2020 and the nemesis of us fucking all is a psychotic MONSTER who will stop at nothing to take over for another four years none of us will come out of whole.

We're not allowing you to hand it to him. EVER.

R343, once again showing how out of touch you are. There are whole communities that were devastated by the Iraq war. When they see that on TV they aren't going to like it.

by Anonymousreply 347March 3, 2020 4:47 AM

R346, Obama's VP is just as hated as Obama and Hillary are. Dementia man's gonna lose.

by Anonymousreply 348March 3, 2020 4:49 AM

When you see a wounded vet, or meet an orphaned child, remember the part Bernie played.

"Whole communities" - where? Qom? They're fighting coronavirus right now, they'll be lucky if anything is left in a few months.

What whole communities do you speak of dear? The ones in the US who - whether they agreed with the war or not - proudly sent their sons and daughters off to the Mid East to fight? Those working class families - some Gold Star - many of whom proudly support our military for generations? You think those people will vote for Bernie? who's never served a day nor been a military hawk - and not the obvious moderate choice. You are delusional.

[quote] Obama's VP is just as hated as Obama and Hillary are. Dementia man's gonna lose.

Here's a secret little one: crazy old finger-wagging bentover man isn't gonna win either! And has much less of a chance. Sorry!

(and Obama is hardly hated, he's widely beloved and respected by the party and many of the Independents who make up the swing voting bloc).

by Anonymousreply 351March 3, 2020 4:54 AM

R350 thought Hillary Clinton was going to win too. Turn off the CNN and go see America. The real America.

by Anonymousreply 352March 3, 2020 4:55 AM

If Biden's the nominee prepare for a repeat of 2016 except without the popular vote.

I can’t help but to over-analyze why Pete wasn’t with Amy and Beto. Could Biden be considering him for VP? I adore Pete and have supported him from the beginning, but I do not believe he’s the right fit for VP if it’s Joe.

I think Eric Holder would be an excellent choice. John Fetterman (sp?) of PA would be a fucking LOCK for PA, OH, WI, and MI. I would love Duckworth but she doesn’t want it. Sally Yates is incredible. Cheri Bustos will be the next Nancy, she would be amazing. There are other mayors that I love, especially the former New Orleans Mitch Landreiu, who is beloved by the black voters of NO, and he would squash Pence like the roach he is....SUSAN RICE. John Fetterman is unbelievable, makes me proud again to be Dem.

Normally I wouldn’t think this way, but in this cycle I don’t believe gender and race are the biggest influence on voters. I really think voters are begging for a ticket that will kick Trump’s fucking fat ass — it really is about the ticket projecting immense strength and confidence, it needs to 100% convince voters that it blows away Trump. Like, it needs to make Trump voters actually feel ashamed of repeating their stupidity again! They should be publicly crucified by our party. Start using the talking point that they hate America, that Trump hates America, that Pompeo hates America, that John Roberts hates America. Turn all their hate right back at THEM. Perhaps the candidates can use proxy Congressional peeps to deliver this negative message. Someone needs to....

In a perfect world, I would like a minority female for VP. And that person may be out there but just hasn’t received national media attention? Remember how McCain plucked Palin out of nowhere? No one had even heard of her. Maybe Biden has a POC and/or female candidate who has thus far flown under the national radar.

It goes without saying that the person Joe picks should also not cost us a House or Senate seat. Most white women and blacks will stand by the party and vote for a white man even though they desperately want (and deserve) a woman or non-white — most understand this is literally our last shot, this isn’t the time for tantrums. Straight white men? They are easily swayed to not support a woman VP because of their sexism. My thinking that gender/race don’t matter this cycle because the only “weak” link in the chain for Dems are white straight males. If we can convince them the ticket is playing hardball, we can win. If Dems just start swinging *hard*, we can still win this thing.

Pete should have stayed in. He would have gotten third place on super Tuesday and racked up some delegates. He could have taken them to convention and gotten a VP slot or maybe walked away with the nomination. Biden and Bernie have some serious faults..

I wish Pete was more selfish sometimes especially if the media won't even give him credit for this.

by Anonymousreply 355March 3, 2020 6:01 AM

No, Pete's judgment was better than yours. The way the state primaries will play, Bernie in multi-person races would never be catchable in delegates. He needs to be stopped now.

by Anonymousreply 356March 3, 2020 6:24 AM

Pete was a king tonight. And I loved that ass kissing speech Biden gave in Pete's honor to thank him.

by Anonymousreply 357March 3, 2020 6:51 AM

Agree, R357. I loved every smooch. And, he deserved it, too.

by Anonymousreply 358March 3, 2020 11:14 AM

How about everytime I think of Sandy Hook or a school shooting or mass murder, by gun violence, I think of Bernie Sanders who has taken $$$$$ from the NRA and voted against The Brady Bill more times than post offices he's gotten to name, which is the highlight of his thirty year senate career, R349?

How about THAT, R349? Is that good for you, Bro?

by Anonymousreply 359March 3, 2020 11:44 AM

Want more Pete? Want to see him rise to the presidency?

Vote for Biden, who's going to make Pete an important member of the new administration.

by Anonymousreply 360March 3, 2020 1:03 PM

Sorry to the other thread. You didn't post soon enough and your thread died lol.

by Anonymousreply 361March 3, 2020 1:03 PM

R354? I love your Susan Rice idea. I hope others are looking at it.

by Anonymousreply 362March 3, 2020 1:46 PM

Rice wrote a couple of NYT op-eds over the past few months. I'm assuming that wasn't random.

I like her as a VP pick as it keeps the Obama chain and she's not going to make White People roll their eyes and say she was only nominated because she's a black woman the way a Stacey Abrams might.

by Anonymousreply 363March 3, 2020 1:56 PM

Susan Rice has a mid level (?) name recognition and a track record that makes her the most credible suggestion I've seen for a black woman as Biden's Veep.

by Anonymousreply 364March 3, 2020 2:01 PM

And while we're at it, why does Stacey Abrams have the same names as thousands of 60 year old Jewish women?

by Anonymousreply 365March 3, 2020 2:04 PM

Straight white men?

Straight white men are Trump's core constituency. He is the supremely-entitled, unchecked id of the straight white man. Straight white men have the least to lose under a Trump second-term. We cannot convince them to turn against their guy. Trump also got a decent chunk of white women -- who apparently don't mind being grabbed by the p•ssy.

Focus must be on the voters who stayed home in 2016 because they did not like HRC, felt taken for granted or failed to fully grasp the inevitable horror of a Trump presidency. A white male VP will not solve that problem.

by Anonymousreply 366March 3, 2020 2:21 PM

You mean he got the majority of white women

by Anonymousreply 367March 3, 2020 2:30 PM

A pox on all of your 78-year-old dementia-prone houses!

How the fuck did we end up with three 78 y.o. men still in the running and all of the sub-70 y.o. candidates dropping out?

I'll vote for Warren if she's still running by the time my state gets to vote. She is now the fresh young progressive voice in the race. I mean comparatively speaking.

by Anonymousreply 368March 3, 2020 7:00 PM

Joe Biden is 77. The youngest man in the race!

by Anonymousreply 369March 3, 2020 8:00 PM

Tulsa is still in the race.

Like it matters one way or the other.
