Judge Judy to end after 25 years

She'll do a new show.

by Anonymousreply 45March 3, 2020 8:29 PM

Whatever the new show is, you can bet she'll be an impatient, imperious bitch on it, too.

by Anonymousreply 1March 2, 2020 4:04 AM

That new show better pay her more than the $47m CBS has been paying her every year

by Anonymousreply 2March 2, 2020 4:06 AM

She’s a witch. Good riddance.

by Anonymousreply 3March 2, 2020 4:08 AM

I love her, but this is like "Car Talk." It'll go seamlessly into reruns and you'll never know the difference.

by Anonymousreply 4March 2, 2020 4:09 AM

I also love Judge Judy. If you don't think she's a nice person you should check out the Larry King interviews.

by Anonymousreply 5March 2, 2020 4:12 AM

R3 this is the real Judy

by Anonymousreply 6March 2, 2020 4:13 AM

I love that clip, R6.

by Anonymousreply 7March 2, 2020 4:17 AM

Disgusting Bloomberg shill. Cunt.

by Anonymousreply 8March 2, 2020 4:17 AM

Oh, FFS, R8. Move past politics. You're so fucking boring. Not everything has to be about politics.

by Anonymousreply 9March 2, 2020 4:19 AM

R5, she's a smart woman and knows her job. She's heard all the excuses and bullshit from her many years as a lawyer and family court judge.

BUT, there is no need for her to bully the people on her show. She's abrasive even to those who are respectful of her. She can be in charge of her courtroom without being condescending. Judges on other courtroom shows usually keep their tempers in check.

Drama always brings the ratings though, so that kind of behavior won't go away.

by Anonymousreply 10March 2, 2020 4:24 AM

She is older than sin.

by Anonymousreply 11March 2, 2020 4:35 AM

One of our most eloquent supporters.

They probably finally got tired of paying her an arm and a leg.

by Anonymousreply 13March 2, 2020 4:46 AM

She’s an obnoxious far-Right racist Republican cunt. She hates minorities, hates feminism (she wouldn’t have gotten into law school without them), and is emotionally retarded. She’s made a mockery out of the legal system to make money. She’s as repulsive as Jeanne Pirro. Two loud mouthed idiots.

by Anonymousreply 14March 2, 2020 6:16 AM

I hope her new show will involve Barbara Walters and Cindy Adams. Maybe a dancing competition they judge or better yet, some dating show with a young handsome jew bachelor looking for love with a lot of slutty girls, whom are mostly minorities.

by Anonymousreply 15March 2, 2020 6:30 AM

What’s with these old ass celebrities that have hundreds of millions of dollars that just can’t retire gracefully into the sunset?

by Anonymousreply 16March 2, 2020 6:33 AM

R6 The way she was before the cameras started rolling is exactly the same person as she is today. When other hosts change to fit the times, she's the one who is genuine.

I find it fascinating that in the years she was a family judge she presided over the highest number of cases. It sounds like they wanted to get rid of her badly, but couldn't ignore the fact she got the job done better than anyone else. She really must have seen it all at work and had good instincts about people (hence the anger). The only episodes I ever saw where she couldn't fully hide her vulnerable side were the episodes about abused animals.

by Anonymousreply 17March 2, 2020 10:35 AM

I liked her years ago, but she got to an age when she simply did not understand current technology and I saw her make some calls on cases that were patently wrong, all because she had no knowledge of the realities of how most people do things. She was stuck in the 60's. Many times she would readily admit she didn't understand most of the modern technological aspects of life. Someone like that should not be sitting in judgement of people when technology is part of the case. That's when it' time to retire.

by Anonymousreply 18March 2, 2020 10:44 AM

I remember one case where she ruled against a plaintiff simply because when she looked at the plaintiff's check book she noted that the entire register was apparently written with with the same pen. She said "this register has been dummied up - no one writes a check register with the same pen for many months". I thought "YOU STUPID OLD WOMAN, no one even writes checks anymore, they leave their checkbooks at home and use credit cards or debit cards or online payment methods, and use the same pen to put their banking transactions into the register. That's exactly what the plaintiff told her and she said "I'm not buying it". She even asked Byrd if that sounded right to him and as usual he just stood there and shrugged his shoulders so he wouldn't have to tell the old fool she had no idea what she was talking about. I knew then she needed to go.

Yes. And she’s the only one who lasted 25 years, so she was doing something right.

by Anonymousreply 20March 2, 2020 12:19 PM

My favorite Judy old moment was pretty recently. She was describing a placard/diagram of a case and said quite earnestly “for those of you at home without color televisions....” and everyone just started laughing at her. It was hilarious.

So quaint 😍

Judge Jewy

by Anonymousreply 22March 2, 2020 12:41 PM

Well she's no Notorious RBG

She slept with this sleazy ambulance chasing lawyer in Dallas who later OD'd in a parking lot.

Super classy.

by Anonymousreply 24March 2, 2020 12:52 PM

[quote]She'll do a new show.

It fucking well better be a reboot of "That Girl"!

by Anonymousreply 25March 2, 2020 12:54 PM

I used to work near her home and saw her regularly. She was a nice person.

by Anonymousreply 26March 2, 2020 1:26 PM

Her courtroom antics are a joke. Most all states have an official judicial qualifications board that looks at judge's performance and deals with them when they get out of line. A lot of what she does on that show would put her afoul of most any JQB. She'd definitely be counseled to watch her smart mouth and talk to the litigants with more respect. Her "don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining" line is an embarrassment every time she says it and it's even worse coming from the mouth of a sitting judge.

by Anonymousreply 27March 2, 2020 5:25 PM

[quote] it's even worse coming from the mouth of a sitting judge.

She’s not a “sitting judge.”

She acts as an arbitrator in disputes.

by Anonymousreply 28March 2, 2020 5:34 PM

And that's how she gets away with all her shenanigans. Legal judge or arbitrator, she should act with the same level of professionalism, which she doesn't.

by Anonymousreply 29March 2, 2020 6:03 PM

[quote]Yes. And she’s the only one who lasted 25 years, so she was doing something right.

I wouldn't call it "doing something right," R20. I call it pandering to the lowest common denominator. I call it business as usual. Appealing to the base tastes of people with hyped drama, bitchiness, petty arguments, and general bad behavior is a successful TV formula. Judge Judy is popular for that reason. It's a "reality" show, like The Real Housewives franchise. Jerry Springer's old show, another of that ilk, lasted 27 years, longer than Judge Judy. Longevity is not an indicator of quality. Let's be honest here: people watch those shows because they have a sadistic streak. They enjoy seeing the humiliation of others.

Judge Joseph Wapner, the first TV judge (The People's Court) said of her:

"She is a disgrace to the profession. She does things I don't think a judge should do. She tells people to shut up. She's rude. She's arrogant. She demeans people. If she does this on purpose, then that's even worse. Judges need to observe certain standards of conduct. She just doesn't do it and I resent that. The public is apt to gain the impression that this is how actual judges conduct themselves."

by Anonymousreply 30March 2, 2020 6:17 PM

[quote] Let's be honest here: people watch those shows because they have a sadistic streak. They enjoy seeing the humiliation of others.

I'd go a step further and say this is a kind of self-satisfaction, where people not only love to see the humiliation but somehow think that elevates THEM as being better than the stranger on TV.

It's an early sign that someone you know is headed towards the conservative/Deplorable side of things, if they aren't there already.

by Anonymousreply 31March 2, 2020 6:23 PM

Doesn’t she have enough money yet?

by Anonymousreply 32March 2, 2020 6:27 PM

You're right, R31. People watch Judge Judy and Jerry Springer and smugly tell themselves: "Look at those losers. Thank God my life is nothing like that." Or that old Republican excuse: "If they just pulled themselves up by their bootstraps, they wouldn't be in this position."

It's an easy way for them to feel superior, especially because they don't have to feel any empathy for people who have it worse. I doubt these self-satisfied people would do so well in life had they been born into abject poverty, had a drug addict for a mother, been abused throughout childhood, etc.

by Anonymousreply 33March 2, 2020 6:38 PM

In addition to her reported last yearly salary of $147 million/year she sold her 10,400 episode catalog of shows to CBS in 2017 for $95 million.

by Anonymousreply 34March 2, 2020 6:38 PM

[quote] Yes. And she’s the only one who lasted 25 years, so she was doing something right.

Trainwreck television.

by Anonymousreply 35March 3, 2020 2:56 AM

Her show is fake. The show pays the judgements. It’s theater starring a genuine cunt.

by Anonymousreply 36March 3, 2020 2:57 AM

She’s admitted that she was horrible in school and didn’t read a single book growing up. She said she was a brat who loved the sound of her own voice. Basically she’s dumb as shit and just barely passed law school.

by Anonymousreply 37March 3, 2020 2:58 AM

R37 So her trashy show has been the best thing to ever happen to her professionally then.

She really lucked out with landing her own show.

by Anonymousreply 38March 3, 2020 3:16 AM

She has to be billionaire adjacent at this point. She's been making big $$$ for decades at this point.

by Anonymousreply 39March 3, 2020 3:17 AM

She's reputedly worth $400 million.

by Anonymousreply 40March 3, 2020 4:18 PM

I think she's Bloomberg's only supporter at this point. Maybe he paid her for that endorsement, like those other influencers he paid...

by Anonymousreply 41March 3, 2020 4:22 PM

R37 can you offer a link to that?

by Anonymousreply 42March 3, 2020 6:30 PM

Read her book, r42

by Anonymousreply 43March 3, 2020 8:21 PM

She is the same as Nancy Grace. Two Idiotic blowhards made for the Fox Network.

by Anonymousreply 44March 3, 2020 8:22 PM

"She’s an obnoxious far-Right racist Republican cunt. She hates minorities, hates feminism"

Ladies and Gentlemen: I give you irrefutable proof of the existence of Leftist/Progressive/Democratic Deplorables: R14. Ignorant, stupid, misinformed/uninformed and proud of it.
