Two people tested for coronavirus in New York City following return from Iran
by Anonymous | reply 2 | March 2, 2020 12:33 AM |
Do you think this could be a deliberate thing by the Iranian government - to try and infect as much of the US as possible and create chaos?

R12 In NYC the Italians are the risk.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | March 2, 2020 1:06 AM |

I'm guessing you've never been to Washington state in the winter.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | March 2, 2020 4:51 AM |
I was surprised when I saw the long lines at Trader Joe's yesterday. I went to the store in my neighborhood and everything seemed perfectly normal -- there were no long checkout lines of people buying up everything in sight. Of course, I'm grateful for that and hope it does not change.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | March 2, 2020 5:05 AM |
Washington state,, on the West side of the Cascades (where the virus has struck), is cool and very rainy in the winter.

Yes, they cunningly let it rampage across their country hoping that someone might eventually come to America, Rose.
The funny thing is all this talk about Chinese neighborhoods in NY yet it seems to have come here from Iran, not China.

by Anonymous | reply 43 | March 2, 2020 6:14 AM |
My god some of you are hysterical hypochondriacs. This virus has been around for MONTHS. It just recently got a name and lots of media hype. But you have probably already been exposed many times. Are you dead? No.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | March 2, 2020 6:15 AM |
More are dying from the flu, you dumb shits. So if get the flu, be sure to jump through a window.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | March 2, 2020 6:19 AM |
It must be bad if China closed down. All the cities are ghost towns. Very few people are working. Most countries using some restrictions or closing borders and closing schools. This is going to cause an economic downturn. This is worse than the flu.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | March 2, 2020 6:23 AM |
I always thought in the future China was going to bomb us. Problem solved.

[quote] 0.1% of people who get infected with the flu virus die from it. The rate for dying from the new virus is 20 times that.
The low death rate from the flu is only because millions of more people get it. If millions of people get Corona, we'll be able to say what the real death rate is
by Anonymous | reply 48 | March 2, 2020 8:10 PM |
Actually, we don't have an accurate death rate for Covid-19 because there isn't an accurate handle on how many people have/had the virus. It likely less than that 2% since midler cases are likely to have gone unreported thinking it was the flu.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | March 2, 2020 8:23 PM |

Italy has bad health care. We had a doc who used to go to Italy & bring kids back with with CP & do surgery on them because Italy didn’t believe in CP. They just shrugged & said “Birth defect. Waddayagonndo? God’s will.” When one of our nurse’s mother’s had a stroke on vakay in Italy one of our drs got hold of the embassy & got her back immediately. It’s on par with Ireland. Pretty shitty.

About 1 in 2,500 people who get the flu die from it. Estimates are that 1 in 50 to 1 in 100 people who get Covid-19 die from it. So, you were saying?
by Anonymous | reply 53 | March 2, 2020 8:37 PM |
The only reason she was tested is because she came back from Iran (and she was a medical professional, so she must have been pretty sure she had it).
NY didn't have test kits until this weekend, and correct me if I'm wrong, Drs. had to contact the health dept/CDC to get permission to test. From what I've heard, the CDC was turning down requests to test people with symptoms unless they had recently been to China, Iran, etc.
A top infectious disease specialist from Presbyterian was on tv this morning. He's predicting 100s of cases in NYC this week (now that there are kits and test results are only 12 hours later) and maybe thousands by next week.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | March 2, 2020 9:06 PM |
Why haven’t they been testing for the last 6 weeks? It’s been knows since before even then?
If they would have tested, they could have isolated and prevented many of these unnecessary deaths.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | March 2, 2020 9:12 PM |
Yes, r50 and she yelled at it for not knowing who she was.

by Anonymous | reply 57 | March 2, 2020 9:43 PM |
Just spotted a case of corona!
(We jest, but 38% of Americans polled think that you can get the corona virus from Corona beer - about the same %of the electorate that voted for Trump, btw - and sales of Corona beer in America has plummeted drastically. Proving once again what the rest of the world has always known: That Americans are dumb as dirt.)
by Anonymous | reply 58 | March 2, 2020 9:54 PM |
No confirmation of anything in NY.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | March 2, 2020 9:55 PM |
Pence says 43 cases.
6 have died
That’s not a 2% mortality rate.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | March 2, 2020 10:08 PM |
[quote]About 1 in 2,500 people who get the flu die from it. Estimates are that 1 in 50 to 1 in 100 people who get Covid-19 die from it. So, you were saying?
Many cases of coronavirus are so mild that they aren't being reported to doctors. (Do you call your doctor every time you have a bad cold, or even the flu?) Therefore the number of cases is undoubtedly much higher, and the mortality rate is likely much lower.
There are likely many many more cases in the US than 43, but because there hasn't been widespread testing, and because most people have mild symptoms and just treat themselves, we don't know about the other cases. In general, at this point, only people who are seriously ill or are known to have been exposed are being tested.

I love how Cuomo tells us the Iranian lady “wasn’t contagious” on the plane and in the car ride home. Nope. she magically became contagious when she arrived home, where she’s been ever since.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | March 3, 2020 12:01 AM |
Um, it's called the incubation period, r66.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | March 3, 2020 12:37 AM |
Sure, r67. How the fuck does anyone know that? Experts can’t even agree on the incubation period. I’ve seen 9 days to two weeks to 40 days. And they can’t agree how long it lives on surfaces.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | March 3, 2020 12:54 AM |
It's been averaging 14 days.
