Alanis Morissette - Reasons I Drink

Her latest effort.

I still can't understand half of what she says.

Thoughts?

In these , the most shallow of times , a song about introspection ? I liked it , but its 15 years too late .

I hated her in the 90s and still do.

I like her a lot but I got bored of her style many years ago. At least she isn’t out there shaking her tits and chasing trends like the rest of them.

by Anonymousreply 3March 1, 2020 12:42 AM

It sounds like a Sara Bareilles song.

by Anonymousreply 4March 1, 2020 12:51 AM

I Always wanted her and Fiona Apple to make one more record. So looks like I’ll be getting 50% of my wish.

by Anonymousreply 5March 1, 2020 1:08 AM

I also thought the beginning was a Sara B song too...

Is Alanis also a homewrecker?

by Anonymousreply 6March 1, 2020 1:12 AM

more like Reasons I Eat. Alanis is looking short & stout!

by Anonymousreply 7March 1, 2020 1:19 AM

R7 The second verse actually starts with “these are the reasons I eat.”

I like her more than I like the song, but I like the song more than I feel like I should like a song called “Reasons I Drink.”

I’m the resident Tori Amos troll, and while I put Tori on a different level than Alanis, they’re both sort of song-essayists, and I think they are both insightful. Alanis is a lot more straightforward and a bit less deep, but I appreciate her efforts.

Good analysis R8. I love Tori. Alanis is more successful, I guess. but she's so on the nose. I do like her too, however. My exes brother dated her btw! She's apparently a sweetheart.

I like her. She grew up a block away from me. I don't know her. I have always had respect for her.

I kind of love it. The production value isn't very high...a song like this should be super produced like a Katy Perry or "Up!"-era Shania song so you can hear every syllable, every note, breath, etc. It's like her vocals are run through a distortion pedal the entire time, and then the instrumrnts are so muffly.

But it's still a great song and I love it.

by Anonymousreply 11March 1, 2020 1:49 AM

Oh my god. Just awful. The lyrics especially, but everything else too.

by Anonymousreply 12March 1, 2020 3:01 AM

I love it. It's clever, melodic and her voice is in fine shape. Welcome back, Alanis- don't leave us again.

I mostly like her. She’s authentic and doesn’t chase trends. And she’s not everyone’s cup of tea.

Her songs are very “wordy” and verbose though.

by Anonymousreply 14March 1, 2020 3:39 AM

I absolutely love it.

by Anonymousreply 15March 1, 2020 12:41 PM

I agree with OP; I can't understand half the lyrics. BUT I was able to understand the first verse and that was great. I wish she had captioned the video...that would help set the words in my brain for the next time I hear the song.
