Jordan Peele's #Candyman gets gory first trailer
Looks surprisingly good. Love the original, but the sequels have been a little iffy.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | February 27, 2020 5:33 PM |
Nothing against Peele but Candyman is a Clive Barker creation. A gay white man.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | February 27, 2020 5:35 PM |
Jordan Peele is boss
by Anonymous | reply 3 | February 27, 2020 5:35 PM |
Jordan Peele proves again he can take a classic R&;B song Say My Name and remix it into a horror track we never knew we wanted for the #candymanmovie
by Anonymous | reply 4 | February 27, 2020 5:43 PM |
Peele ruined The Twilight Zone with wokeness and will likely ruin this too.
Stick to your original material dude.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | February 27, 2020 5:52 PM |
The first one was nothing worth watching again...so pass.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | February 27, 2020 6:25 PM |
The first one is a horror classic
by Anonymous | reply 7 | February 27, 2020 6:28 PM |
On the bottom of the 'horror classic" list
by Anonymous | reply 8 | February 27, 2020 6:29 PM |
I like the idea that this one is also set at the site of the original- only all the projects have been torn down and it's a different neighborhood.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | February 27, 2020 6:31 PM |
Nia DaCosta
by Anonymous | reply 10 | February 27, 2020 6:35 PM |
Looks good. Love that they brought back Vanessa Williams from the original.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | February 27, 2020 7:20 PM |
I never liked the original. I too will pass on this and maybe give Run a shot.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | February 27, 2020 7:30 PM |
Vanessa was in the original?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | February 27, 2020 7:47 PM |
R12 I was wondering how long before they did a Munchausen syndrome by proxy horror movie...
by Anonymous | reply 14 | February 27, 2020 7:58 PM |
Not THAT Vanessa Williams. The Vanessa Williams they got rid of on Melrose Place. Virginia Madsen chopped her dog's head off and hid her baby in the first Candyman.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | February 27, 2020 8:00 PM |
Sexy lead.
I am not a fan of the original, but I'm sure Jordan Peele will do something a little better with it.
Interesting they changed the lead from a white woman to a black man. Now they can't do the racially "star-crossed lovers" backstory for Candyman, unless they make the Candyman white and gay.
Peele isn't directing, so I wonder what we'll get.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | February 27, 2020 9:06 PM |
That’s Yahya Abdul-Mateen II
by Anonymous | reply 17 | February 27, 2020 9:46 PM |
How many Oscars did 'Us' win?????????
by Anonymous | reply 20 | February 27, 2020 10:45 PM |
R15, stop saying false things about Virginia Madsen! Candyman was the responsible party for the things you allege Virginia of having done.
For the record, this movie is about the baby Anthony all grown up.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | February 27, 2020 10:51 PM |
God bless you R18
by Anonymous | reply 22 | February 27, 2020 10:59 PM |
The trailer looks. Could have done without Destiny's Child in the background.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | February 27, 2020 11:59 PM |
That lead - I'd spend the rest of my life on my knees in front of him...
by Anonymous | reply 24 | February 28, 2020 12:01 AM |
R23, taking popular songs and making them into horror tracks has become Jordan’s signature, and audiences love it
by Anonymous | reply 25 | February 28, 2020 1:30 AM |
R18, Jesus! He has a huge cock. He was cute before I knew this, but he might have just become the most attractive man in the world in my eyes.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | February 28, 2020 3:02 AM |
Neither Get Out or Us were really horror films. Peele makes dramas, not horror.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | February 28, 2020 3:06 AM |
Next up: "Blacula".
by Anonymous | reply 28 | February 28, 2020 3:07 AM |
Wow, seems this Vanessa Williams is still a tad insecure (and pissed) about her name.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | February 28, 2020 3:46 AM |
Great trailer.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | February 28, 2020 3:58 AM |
You can’t say all white gays on DL are racist because I want his BBC!
by Anonymous | reply 31 | February 28, 2020 4:11 AM |
R25 I know but I just wasn't feeling this one.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | February 28, 2020 6:26 AM |
R31, disgusting
by Anonymous | reply 33 | February 28, 2020 12:38 PM |
I like Jordan Peele's work - this should be fun
by Anonymous | reply 34 | February 28, 2020 12:41 PM |
Indeed bro
by Anonymous | reply 35 | February 28, 2020 12:43 PM |
Nonsense, r27 - they're definitely horror films. Just because they're more original than the genre average doesn't mean they're not part of the genre.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | February 28, 2020 12:48 PM |
It will probably be better than Us.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | February 28, 2020 12:48 PM |
Get out makes use of every horror trope in existence and is not even original. Skeleton Key did it better years earlier. It's definitely horror.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | February 28, 2020 1:17 PM |
Should've had Tony Todd return but I guess they didn't was because of that whole they wanted to take things in a different direction crap they usually spout in cases such as these.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | February 28, 2020 1:53 PM |
Black dude does a riff on ira levin’s stepford wives, gets overpraised to the skies because he’s black, now he’s just riffing on more white man’s art... groundbreaking.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | February 28, 2020 1:58 PM |
Tony Todd IS returning as Candyman. Stupid me. This is why you don't post when you're half asleep like I was just now.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | February 28, 2020 1:59 PM |
I can’t Believe someone claimed they aren’t horror movies
by Anonymous | reply 43 | February 28, 2020 2:02 PM |
r40- They say that about Quentin Tarantino as well, and he gets nominations and praises to the skies.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | February 28, 2020 2:11 PM |
I'm pumped about this
by Anonymous | reply 45 | February 28, 2020 2:12 PM |
Me too
by Anonymous | reply 46 | February 28, 2020 2:20 PM |
And I should add that Quentin 's "inspirations" are Blacksploitation and Kung Fu films.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | February 28, 2020 2:29 PM |
Jordan Peele is this generation's M. Night Shalalawhatever. Hopefully he doesn't make as many clunkers as M. Night.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | February 28, 2020 2:31 PM |
Peele is only a producer here. They're using his name to sell it.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | February 28, 2020 3:23 PM |
How about Antebellum?
by Anonymous | reply 50 | February 28, 2020 3:52 PM |
Different genre / tone, r42.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | February 28, 2020 4:33 PM |
[Quote] Hopefully he doesn't make as many clunkers as M. Night.
I feel like his filmography went downhill after Signs. But I enjoyed The Visit and Split.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | February 28, 2020 11:07 PM |
[QUOTE] Tony Todd IS returning as Candyman.
Yeah R41 I didn’t know that until I looked into it further. They seem to be hiding it with the trailer and maybe they wanted us to be pleasantly surprised when we actually saw him in the movie.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | February 28, 2020 11:08 PM |
He's already out of ideas and making remakes. Well, that didn't last long did it?
by Anonymous | reply 54 | February 28, 2020 11:26 PM |
It’s not a remake, it’s a sequel. Basically like Halloween 2018.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | February 28, 2020 11:29 PM |
Can’t stand Peele’s -over-hyped because he’s black- work.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | February 29, 2020 12:27 AM |
Racist much, R56? Peele’s work would stand on its own if he were white.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | February 29, 2020 12:39 AM |
If you've ever watched Key and Peele, they both have deep love, appreciation and knowledge of cinema and television.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | February 29, 2020 1:26 AM |
R49 I thought he wrote the screenplay too.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | February 29, 2020 2:04 AM |
Disgusting racism
by Anonymous | reply 60 | February 29, 2020 11:28 AM |
Bump
by Anonymous | reply 61 | March 1, 2020 1:45 PM |
I'd like to see it even though I think it's kind of funny how he blackwashed the main character.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | March 1, 2020 2:15 PM |
While I don't think Get Out deserved any Oscar love, it was a good movie that was well written and thoughtful. Us was a bit of a mess, but it had good moments, too. I still like Peele, but I do think that Oscar stuff might have been the worst thing to ever happen to him. People are going to expect too much of him on every project from now on and, since he's peddling in the horror genre which doesn't always get critical love, he might be in trouble.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | March 1, 2020 5:33 PM |
R62, how did he “blackwash” the main character when the main character in this is the grownup black baby from the first film?
by Anonymous | reply 64 | March 1, 2020 5:43 PM |
Exactly
by Anonymous | reply 65 | March 1, 2020 7:02 PM |
Highly-anticipated slasher, ‘Candyman’ has been bumped from June 12 to Sept. 25
(via @DEADLINE |)
by Anonymous | reply 66 | April 3, 2020 6:04 PM |
Hardly surprising. At least we'll have a nice number of horror films to look forward to this fall.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | April 3, 2020 7:20 PM |
I’m excited for this.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | April 4, 2020 5:57 AM |
Well, COVID-19 may have pushed CANDYMAN to a September release.
But it looks like the horror video game DEAD BY DAYLIGHT is moving forward with plans to introduce the Candyman as a killer this month!
You'll be able to play as the Candyman and maybe one of his victims. My fingers are crossed for a bee attack!

by Anonymous | reply 70 | May 17, 2020 4:59 AM |
Can anyone top Tony Todd, though?
by Anonymous | reply 71 | May 17, 2020 5:50 AM |
Tony Todd is reprising his role as Candyman in the Jordan Peele movie, r71.
So everybody wins.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | May 17, 2020 5:07 PM |
It looks like DEAD BY DAYLIGHT's new chapter is for SILENT HILL, not CANDYMAN. You can now play as Pyramid Head or Cheryl Mason.
This isn't the first time DBD has incorporated old video games into theirs. The creators are major, horror gaming fanboys and they incorporated Bill Overbeck and several character outfits from LEFT 4 DEAD previously.
This doesn't mean the Candyman rumors are bullshit. Maybe they simply moved the Candyman chapter to release in September with Jordan Peele's movie.
I know if I were the studio, I would want the DEAD BY DAYLIGHT chapter to come out at the same time as the film for promotional purposes.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | May 26, 2020 7:02 PM |
Tony Todd is sexy.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | May 27, 2020 1:54 AM |
I like that Tony Todd's coming back, but it doesn't make a lot of sense since the first movie implies that he's banished or what-have-you and that Virginia Madsen's character is the new bogeyman you can summon through a mirror. It also doesn't make sense that he would age.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | May 27, 2020 2:16 AM |
Doesn’t make a lot of sense? We’re talking about horror movies here, R75.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | May 27, 2020 1:01 PM |
Meh. His films are overrated. “Get Out” was entertaining, but nothing special. “Us” just plain sucked.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | May 27, 2020 1:11 PM |
He’s not directing this movie, R77.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | May 27, 2020 1:13 PM |
R75: ITA. For continuity - Virginia Madsen (or a white actress who looks like her) should play the new boogeyman. Tony Todd with (makeup/CGI to look younger) could be her accomplice. I like the grown-up baby Anthony story though!
by Anonymous | reply 79 | May 27, 2020 1:27 PM |
R15: Didn't Candyman kill the dog and hid the baby to setup Helen? Helen didn't do any actual killing until her husband in the final scene.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | May 27, 2020 1:37 PM |
Correct. Candyman killed the dog and stole Anthony.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | May 27, 2020 1:42 PM |
Weren’t there already two sequels without Virginia Madsen and Candyman returned to his place as the villain? The ending of the original was discarded long ago. Come on, man. Should we discuss the haphazard continuity of the Halloween films? I mean they just came out with one that outright jettisoned 30 years worth of sequels. And before that, Rob Zombie made an awful remake with the same title. In fact there’s now three movies called “Halloween”!
by Anonymous | reply 82 | May 27, 2020 1:51 PM |
R82: True, but 2 and 3 were terrible and panned! It would be great if this Candyman was the true sequel to replace the other 2 (similar to the latest Terminator which ignored the terrible interim sequels after Terminator 2 by bringing Hamilton back).
by Anonymous | reply 83 | May 27, 2020 1:59 PM |
But nobody wants to see Virginia Madsen or anyone who looks like her as the villain. For christ sake, we want Candyman. He’s one of the greatest horror movie icons and one of the few boogeymen who still scares me as an adult. Why would you want to mess with that?
by Anonymous | reply 84 | May 27, 2020 2:05 PM |
R84: Yeah, he is pretty damn scary! I will ignore the continuity issue👍
by Anonymous | reply 85 | May 27, 2020 2:08 PM |
