I just discovered them from another thread.
What does DL think of this gay Italian couple on Youtube?

They look like brothers.

Which one is the top?

I wonder what their dads think?

Well, half Italian couple. I had dim expectations of something quite stupid or terminally cutesy, and so was nicely surprised. Concise, well organized, stuck close to the point, explained rules clearly and enunciated likewise, were smart about what was included and what not, and had a good humor about things.
I've heard a lot of similar mini-lessons in languages and this one stands up very well against them.

Cute.

Really cute couple. It will end in tears.

The Italian guy is sexy as hell. Can he cook?

They're wrong about "pistachio," which is the English spelling and should be pronounced piss-TAH-shee-oh. The Italian word is "pistacchio." I agree that if you're ordering gelato in Italy or in an Italian establishment, then it's proper to use the Italian spelling/pronunciation, but not when you're at Baskin-Robbins.

Most likely reluctant acceptance.

The correct pronunciation of these words is annoying. I’d rather keep doing it the wrong way.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | February 22, 2020 4:11 PM |
I don’t think they’re a gay couple
by Anonymous | reply 11 | February 22, 2020 4:16 PM |
R11, why not?

Marco is Italian. Alan is from Ireland. They were living in London when they made the OP video. Now they live in San Francisco. Marco works for (I think) youtube.
As for whether Marco can cook, well, I'm a little more fussy about my P-Rs, but I like the way he carbonaras (you'll have to watch the video yourself to see if he drains).

He has a misunderstanding of the difference between a mispronunciation and saying a word with an accent. For example, "bruschetta" is often mispronounced as "brusheta" instead of the correct "brusketa". But "spaghetti" isn't being mispronounced. It's just being said with an American English accent. Many English-speaking Americans typically soften a "t" sound when it comes in the middle of a word ("little" or "bottle"). We're not really pronouncing it with a "d" sound. It's more of a soft "t" somewhere between a hard "t" and a much softer "d". That's the nature of our accent. It would be a mispronunciation if we truly thought the "tt" in spaghetti was really pronounced as a "d". Kind of like how Marco pronounces "right away" with an Italian accent that comes out kind of like "ryiway" instead of with a hard "t" sound at the end of "right" followed by a glottal stop prior to "away". It would only be a mispronunciation if he thought that was actually how it was pronounced.

What is Italian purists don't seem to understand is that words are pronounced differently when they are commonly used in English speaking countries as loan words!
I knew one who would get bent out of shape, triggered by the word "paninis". Linguistically, "I wasn't sure what you wanted, so I just grabbed us a couple of paninis" is perfectly good English if the joint calls their sandwiches that.
The point of this seems largely aimed at italian-americans, but even that is incorrect as those words are actually more a dialect of English, than folks mangling Italian.

Uh, ones Irish, OP.

The Irish one’s disowned him, the Italian one - Italians don’t give a shit.

Yeah, I guess that’s why Ireland has gay marriage and Italy is still in the dark ages doing everything they can to keep gay marriage from ever happening (which they are succeeding at).

Do they have a video with other family members?

Impossible. According to DL, white European countries love the gays and only nations with dark people have institutionalized homophobia.

Italy will never have gay marriage because of the Vatican. Adoption is the reason.
But there are civil unions. With the rights of a married couple.

Well whoop dee do dah day. That’s the equivalent of blacks having to sit in the back of the bus. Yet dummies like you think gays should be satisfied with that.

It is what it is. I lived in the country for decades and will be returning. In my small town there, never had a problem. A great country. Great people.
But it wouldn't be right for you. I suggest you visit other places.

Yeah, like last year. The same goes for abortion. The Italian government and Italian people are two different things. Italy has a new government every week. Italians don't care. They will love their family members regardless. They are a very close knight family. Same sex marriage has overwhelming support in Italy.

Almost 10 years together, cute.

How old are they?
by Anonymous | reply 28 | February 22, 2020 7:02 PM |
I've seen just two videos, but they might be the only YouTube couple I don't hate.
It's nice to see gay people who don't try so fucking hard every fucking second but instead seem to have some measure of ease with themselves.

R29, maybe non-American Youtubers are less tryhard and attention-seeking?
