So we’re posting here now, again thanks to Muriel’s paywalling the other thread. Wonder why she’s got it in for the tennis fans?
by Anonymous | reply 1 | February 20, 2020 11:41 AM |
Grandpa is gonna have knee surgery and skip clay season. Bye.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | February 20, 2020 11:43 AM |
R1 Muriel doesn't have it in for tennis fans. She has it in for people who think they're good to pay for a service. Cough up your cash and give up your entitlement.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | February 20, 2020 11:47 AM |
I don't doubt Felix will be very good in a future, but right now he is not. And he didn't won against Travaglia making great points, he won because Travaglia implossioned. The italian was the best in the first two sets.
Felix is precocious, but he is nowhere near Nadal or Djokovic at his age, and i don't watch in him the hunger those two had at that age either. He has talent and he has a stronger body (i remember Davidovich saying that most of them look like child in comparission with Felix when they were juniors even most of them were older) but its needed way more to get what the atp is promoting with him.
Right now i think Sinner looks more promising than Felix
by Anonymous | reply 4 | February 20, 2020 2:02 PM |
Little Sinner Boy is giving Roskolnikov a run for his money. Third set under way, with Sinner just going down a break.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | February 20, 2020 3:31 PM |
Spoke too soon. Medvedev is creaming Sinner in the third. He’s gone up about 10 gears.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | February 20, 2020 3:39 PM |
very odd for how once tennis threads hit around the 300 mark they get payrolled

FAA is a grandslam flop
by Anonymous | reply 10 | February 20, 2020 5:10 PM |
It's too soon to say that, but there are two things that are not that promising about Felix, his performances at GS and the other is his performance in finals. Nothing to worry about, because he is young and he'll learn, unless he shows the pathetic attitude he showed at the last US Open
by Anonymous | reply 11 | February 20, 2020 6:23 PM |
shame about Federer. Hope his knee heals fully though
and no I don't want him winning slams or big titles but I want the younger guys to defeat a healthy in-form Federer, not a hobbled or rusty one.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | February 20, 2020 6:50 PM |
I think Federer is out for the season. Last week he announced that he would play RG and the rest of the tournaments and now the operation. It sounds a little strange. He might have known it all along, he just said that it has been hurting for a while. I think this is the end, unfortunately. The guy is 38....
by Anonymous | reply 13 | February 20, 2020 7:48 PM |
FAA is already more accomplished than this phuski which is called as PHH
by Anonymous | reply 14 | February 20, 2020 7:52 PM |
[quote]but I want the younger guys to defeat a healthy in-form Federer, not a hobbled or rusty one.
Not going going to happen . Have your forgotten his matches against those phuskies like John Milliman and Tenny Sandgren?
Those losers can not win against an injured Roger. They shit their pants at the brink of victory
by Anonymous | reply 15 | February 20, 2020 7:55 PM |
R14: But PHH never was supposed to be the next best thing
R15: To be far old semi injured Roger gave Nole way more trouble than expected in the semifinals
by Anonymous | reply 16 | February 20, 2020 7:59 PM |
FAA at least was clutch in the end. Remember his mother is a Quebecoise so his half French roots means he's at least 1/2 headcase.
He never faced break point today but the tiebreaks were up and down.

R21 he barely squeaked by an unknown teenager lol Coric has lost depth on his forehand again. He needs to find it if he wants to stay inside the top 40
Delray: Tiafoe and Humbert win. Johnson def. Sock in 3 sets. I guess Sock was pooped in the third? It was a quick 6-1

R20, I didn't see the notice on Rosie's page, but today my FB feed from a Chris Evert page indicates that Jeanne did die, presumably from ovarian cancer.

Coric is in pretty bad form, he is lucky he won

OMFG, Gilles Simon is sporting quite the BD package, especially thanks to the new super tight shorts (thanks, Benoit for bringing them back). And I suspect he knows it, as he keeps pulling the front of his shirt down over his bulge.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | February 21, 2020 5:49 PM |
Currently total flat front. I think his snake is sleeping now.
He has a decent ass too. Not a bubble butt but still decent.

Tiafoe is in really bad form, Humbert defeated him 61 62.
Ugo seems to be improving nicely this year. He'll reach a new peak in the next week's ranking
by Anonymous | reply 30 | February 21, 2020 6:36 PM |

WOW Medvedev just cannot beat weaponless Simon. now 0-3 against him

Medvedev is having a hard time adjusting to his new status as favourite. Last year he was surfing the wave of the good results but now he is having some trouble

By the way, i really like Humbert, he seems to be a nice guy (which is a rarity between the young players) and i like his game. He is not one of the precocious overhyped players, but i think he has potential to have a very good career
by Anonymous | reply 34 | February 21, 2020 6:43 PM |
Dubai final will be Halep vs. Rybakina who is on the rise in the last year.
Doha draw is out. Most of the players who were in Dubai are there except Clijsters did not opt for a WC this time and Barty, Kvitova and Bertens are entered. Zvonareva has a WC as well as she continues her attempted comeback
by Anonymous | reply 35 | February 21, 2020 7:28 PM |
Thiem is a joke. He lost to someone outside of top 100. Also Rio shouldn't be a ATP 500 event.

Felix is into his fifth final with a 7-5, 7-6 win over Simon and a 2-1 head-to-head against his next opponent Tsitsipas.

Acapulco draws are out
for the ladies Stephens is the top seed. Venus has taken a WC. In general the rest of the field is pretty weak
The men's field is actually as good as what's in Dubai. Nadal and Zverev are the top 2 seeds with Wawrinka, Kyrgios and more. Shockingly FAA is entered here as well. I wonder if he'll pull out though. He's been playing for a few weeks in a row now and must be near exhaustion

Anisimova def. Alexandrova in 2

I don't think there's any problem with Felix. He lost against players with better ranking, and right now Tsitsipas is way better than Felix.
He is doing perfectly fine, way better than anyone of his age (even he was not the only one born in 2000 who was supposed to be the next best thing)
by Anonymous | reply 62 | February 23, 2020 6:02 PM |
Five finals before 20 puts Felix in fine company, surpassed only by Nadal and Djokovic. Next step, win one.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | February 23, 2020 6:16 PM |
If FAA keeps playing this way and stays healthy he'll win at least 1 title this year if not more
by Anonymous | reply 64 | February 23, 2020 6:51 PM |
Rio de Janeiro: Garin def. Mager in 2 tough sets for his 2nd title of the year and 4th title overall (he won his first 2 last year). We have a new consistent clay player finally. I'm really looking forward to see what he can do against the big boys during the European clay swing. I want to see him take on Nadal, Djokovic, Thiem etc. So far his best clay wins are Zverev, Coric and Schwartzman. He has beaten Isner twice on hardcourt but so far he's only a threat on clay for titles.
Delray Beach: Opelka def. Nishioka in 3 sets for his 2nd career title (first was last year). He's a bit taller than Isner, moves better and his backhand is the better shot rather than his forehand. Not an Opelka fan but I want to see how he does against the top players too.

R121: I couldn't care less about what NBC says, i believe in doctors not in journalists trying to sell alarming news. And of course elder people count, but they are exactly the same victims of the flue every year.
And going back to tennis, it was obvious that Felix was exhausted. Even Tsitsipas looks tired.
On the other hand it was a very bad defeat to Zverev who seemed recovered after Australia

It was huge win for Timmy paul. I think it is his biggest win. Even bigger win than his Aussie Open win over young Grigor. Also Sasha played decent. His serve was good but in rallies he was passive. Tommy took the initiative and punched it hard at every opportunity he got

Mental. Always.

Doesn't change that Djokovic is the most annoying and unpleasant #1 since Rios.
by Anonymous | reply 150 | February 28, 2020 4:59 PM |
R147: You can refuse to lose as much as you can, but they only end winning because their rivals are unable to finish the work.
The big 3 (or 4 because Murray kept a very high level of play for years and years) are amazing, but they only keep winning GS because generation after generation the players who came after them didn't rise the level. There are a good bunch of players with enough game to defeat them but they are not strong mentally.
People mock the next gen, but the truth is the big 3 doesn't dominate the circuit like they used, but they keep their reign at GS. Once the youngster realize that playing at the best of 5 sets could get used in their favor instead against them, things will change

pathetic but predictable choke from Monfils. I no longer feel bad for the older and middle aged players. #NextGen is our best hope. Middle aged Thiem is improving but he's still stuck when it comes to slams.

blame Monfils for Djokovic winning Dubai. On Monfils' 1st match point he hit a good serve and had a backhand-down-the-line available. He missed it because he went too close to the lines. If he had just gotten it in he likely would have won. Then he double faulted to lose the tiebreak and was a complete flop in the 3rd.
Hopefully Djokdal won't win Indian Wells or Miami.

look out for Canada's 17 year old Leylah Fernandez. She impressed this week by reaching the Acapulco final and showed grit in the second set despite not winning the title. It took 10 match points
Watson was too tough and gets her 4th title after a long dry spell these last few years.
by Anonymous | reply 180 | March 1, 2020 1:55 AM |
of course Nadal overwhelmed Fritz. When Fritz was able to shorten the points he did OK but he was hopeless once Nadal got him moving
by Anonymous | reply 181 | March 1, 2020 9:17 AM |
It's curious how much Leylah progressed, i watched parts of last year's Australian Open junior final and Clara Tauson was way better than her, but Fernandez is doing way better right now.
Thiago Seyboth Wild is very good, still has some junior mistakes but he has a huge forehand. Today, Ruud is the favourite, but i won't be surprised if the brazilian end having a better career

R199: Thiago is getting a lot of hype after being the first player born in 2000 to win a title.
I'm not FAA biggest fan and i like Thiago's game a lot, but right now he is miles away of Felix's level.
Thiago has game, and a great forehand but he is very inconsistent and he gets upset too easily. To be honest i see him pulling a Ruusuvuori (or even Felix at the end of 2018) and having some trouble to get into the top 100 for a while
