[post redacted because linking to dailymail.co.uk clearly indicates that the poster is either a troll or an idiot (probably both, honestly.) Our advice is that you just ignore this poster but whatever you do, don't click on any link to this putrid rag.]

The days of the roving unlicensed receiver detector trucks, alleged to be bogus...over?? Next they'll be shutting down Radio Caroline.

The TV Licence vans were faked. They were seen on television but never in real life. The technology didn't exist.
The licence is a brilliant deal considering how much output we get for it. It might be difficult for non-Brits to understand but the BBC has such a place central to our culture, the fee is good value. Even people who profess not to watch television listen to Radio 4.

Wait. Helen Mirren goes for big black cock?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | February 18, 2020 3:36 PM |
And you have to get a licence for it, r4? Damn, well I guess you gotta ration it somehow.

Even though the BBC has slipped considerably from how it used to be, it still does have lots of outstanding content and I would hate to see further erosion, which will almost certainly happen with the end of license fees.

The licence fee is akin to a streaming subscription, no?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | February 18, 2020 3:50 PM |
Funny, so has she

R7 The fees are compulsory for any television set owner in the UK, regardless if they watch content on it or not.

Sadly, no matter where we are, we all seem to be willing to throw away the benefit of our media, imperfect as it is.
In the US, Fox News has become state TV, and most other news platforms have sunk in quality to meet Fox. all while the president labels anything he doesn't like as fake news.
In the UK, the Beeb is labeled as elitist TV and similar forces want to tear down its iconic status so that equally shitty propaganda can expand there.
Even CTV in Canada is starting to have these sorts of rumblings.

The licence fee in the UK works like a tax. We all benefit from it so we all pay for it. Unless someone is living off-grid, they'll be consuming BBC output in some way. There will be a few people without televisions and computers, but they've probably got a radio. Even if someone doesn't watch Eastenders every other day, they'll be watching the news on television in the morning or catching up with The Archers on the radio in the afternoon.

CTV has always been the CONSERVATIVE Television Network

Helen’s dermal filler is not good.

It would be nice if the BBC allowed non-UK viewers to buy streaming for some shows. Acorn and Britbox are very limited.

I disagree with her. It is important to have media which is paid by taxes. Every European country has. Can you imagine BBC with commercials? And we pay commercials! Boris J. by the way wmats the same she does.

The problem is that the BBC is offering up biased junk, just like every other news station out there, UK and US both. People on both sides resent paying taxes, the conservatives because they think BBC is "elitist leftist propaganda" and the liberals because the BBC is often racist, gives voice to far right fascists, and panders to Boris. The journalist who claimed to have been rifling through votes before they were tallied was with the BBC, and they did nothing about it. She did it as propaganda to support Boris Johnson, and then the BBC defended her.
Obviously they do good stuff in between, but to a certain extent they're simply reaping what they have sown.

How much of the BBC's money comes from selling shows overseas?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | February 18, 2020 5:51 PM |
Do you have to pay the license fee if you don't have a tv but stream shows online?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | February 18, 2020 6:08 PM |
R10, Leftists believe the BBC is state TV.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | February 18, 2020 9:25 PM |
Yes r18.

How does the tax work? Is it per residence or television set? How does it account for people who stream everything and view on a monitor?
Are there proposed alternative govt funding sources of the tax is scrapped?
by Anonymous | reply 21 | February 18, 2020 9:37 PM |
Good questions, R21. Yet, I believe that the license fee has to be paid one time per household no matter what.
