Have you ever seen Fran Drescher actually act?

or is shouting at everyone with that strange voice all she can do?

She's lucky Americans love sitcom comediennes with quirky voices so much.

by Anonymousreply 32March 28, 2020 7:23 AM

I think she's a very good actor and a naturally gifted comedienne, her delivery/timing is perfect. Having said that, The Nanny in it's first few series was perfection, she won't better it and she's become stale now.

[quote]I think she's a very good actor

example please.

The Nanny in it's first few series was perfection

can't you read

by Anonymousreply 3February 16, 2020 8:52 PM

That's not acting - that's shouting and being her "quirky" "hilarious" self.

by Anonymousreply 4February 16, 2020 8:54 PM

Yes, she has one performance in her repertoire, which I first saw in "This is Spinal Tap". Let's be thankful it's a good one.

by Anonymousreply 5February 16, 2020 8:55 PM

Sometimes in England the weather forecast is such. Tomorrow will become brighter fran drescher.

by Anonymousreply 6February 16, 2020 8:57 PM

She was good in Spinal Tap. No whiny voice and very attractive.

by Anonymousreply 7February 16, 2020 8:58 PM

I was going to say that 'This Is Spinal Tap is the only thing I've seen her do that approached a normal person.

by Anonymousreply 8February 16, 2020 8:58 PM

SO - looks like Spinal Tap is it.

by Anonymousreply 9February 16, 2020 8:59 PM

You people know that's her real voice, surely?

[quote]You people know that's her real voice, surely?

Who said it wasn't, you person?

by Anonymousreply 11February 16, 2020 9:01 PM

Horrid expression "You people".

by Anonymousreply 12February 16, 2020 9:02 PM

Well, she didn’t embarrass herself too much as Kate’s bridesmaid on [italic]Silver Spoons[/italic].

by Anonymousreply 13February 16, 2020 9:02 PM

It's actually harder to perform comedy than it is straight acting

by Anonymousreply 14February 16, 2020 9:03 PM

She played a stage 4 cancer victim on the 100th episode of "Strong Medicine"

Judge for yourself her dramatic chops

She's not quirky at all in real life. Very talented performer.

by Anonymousreply 16February 16, 2020 9:06 PM

But easier if you have a naturally hilarious nasal whine for a voice.

by Anonymousreply 17February 16, 2020 9:06 PM

She was pretty funny as the news reporter in [italic]UHF[/italic].

by Anonymousreply 18February 16, 2020 9:29 PM

Good job, fellow dataloungers! OP is probably happy that we could answer his question so quickly.

by Anonymousreply 19February 16, 2020 9:38 PM

Ask her gay ex husband.

by Anonymousreply 20February 16, 2020 9:51 PM

Her voice is easier to listen to than Lisa Kudrow's or Megan Mullally's.

by Anonymousreply 21February 17, 2020 3:53 AM

She was great in American Hot Wax. It's amazing how many in the cast went on to become famous.

She had a lead role (such as they are) in Law & Order: Criminal Intent, 'The War at Home'.

She was dreadful. It still amazes me that the episode made it to air. Or, at least, that she wasn't replaced.

by Anonymousreply 23February 17, 2020 2:38 PM

I remember seeing her as Mandy Patinkin’s adulterous wife in “Ragtime”.

by Anonymousreply 24February 17, 2020 2:44 PM

She was good in 1978's Summer Of Fear in her small role. Better than either Linda Blair or Lee Purcell were in that movie.

Fran has no exaggerated whine or nasal speak at all in Summer Of Fear, her acting is fine and she also looks incredibly pretty. Lee Purcell is good but her performance is incredibly uneven, while Linda Blair moaps around looking like a woman who is shooting her 3rd possession movie.

by Anonymousreply 26February 17, 2020 3:13 PM

I love Fran!

She plays variations of herself, but she's hardly the only one.

by Anonymousreply 27March 20, 2020 9:51 PM

She was in The Last Temptation of Christ and she was fine.

by Anonymousreply 28March 20, 2020 10:02 PM

Her performance as Many Patinkin's cheating wife in Ragtime was the most against-type that I've seen from her.

She was great in Saturday Night Fever as Connie.

Bumping this because Saturday Night Fever was on TV tonight, and this is maybe the second time I’ve ever actually sat down and watched the whole thing (I was desperate for non COVID TV). She was great in just her little role and how much better would the film had been if she had been his co-star — or anyone who has any sort of charm and appeal. It really does hurt the otherwise good movie, ultimately .

And btw while we’re on the subject of Fran she is most definitely NOT a Republican — anyone see her anti-capitalism tweets from 2 days ago ? (Admittedly I haven’t done a search yet, but wanted to dispel that right here).

"Have you ever seen Fran Drescher actually act?"

Well, actually, every time she opens he mouth you see her act. She is a one note actor who cannot NOT let you see her act.

I yearn for the Hallmark Christmas movie where I cannot detect her acting.
