or is shouting at everyone with that strange voice all she can do?
She's lucky Americans love sitcom comediennes with quirky voices so much.

I think she's a very good actor and a naturally gifted comedienne, her delivery/timing is perfect. Having said that, The Nanny in it's first few series was perfection, she won't better it and she's become stale now.

example please.

can't you read

That's not acting - that's shouting and being her "quirky" "hilarious" self.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | February 16, 2020 8:54 PM |
Yes, she has one performance in her repertoire, which I first saw in "This is Spinal Tap". Let's be thankful it's a good one.

Sometimes in England the weather forecast is such. Tomorrow will become brighter fran drescher.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | February 16, 2020 8:57 PM |
She was good in Spinal Tap. No whiny voice and very attractive.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | February 16, 2020 8:58 PM |
I was going to say that 'This Is Spinal Tap is the only thing I've seen her do that approached a normal person.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | February 16, 2020 8:58 PM |
SO - looks like Spinal Tap is it.

You people know that's her real voice, surely?

Who said it wasn't, you person?

Horrid expression "You people".
by Anonymous | reply 12 | February 16, 2020 9:02 PM |
Well, she didn’t embarrass herself too much as Kate’s bridesmaid on [italic]Silver Spoons[/italic].

It's actually harder to perform comedy than it is straight acting
by Anonymous | reply 14 | February 16, 2020 9:03 PM |
She played a stage 4 cancer victim on the 100th episode of "Strong Medicine"
Judge for yourself her dramatic chops
by Anonymous | reply 15 | February 16, 2020 9:03 PM |
She's not quirky at all in real life. Very talented performer.

But easier if you have a naturally hilarious nasal whine for a voice.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | February 16, 2020 9:06 PM |
She was pretty funny as the news reporter in [italic]UHF[/italic].
by Anonymous | reply 18 | February 16, 2020 9:29 PM |
Good job, fellow dataloungers! OP is probably happy that we could answer his question so quickly.

Ask her gay ex husband.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | February 16, 2020 9:51 PM |
Her voice is easier to listen to than Lisa Kudrow's or Megan Mullally's.

She was great in American Hot Wax. It's amazing how many in the cast went on to become famous.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | February 17, 2020 2:23 PM |
She had a lead role (such as they are) in Law & Order: Criminal Intent, 'The War at Home'.
She was dreadful. It still amazes me that the episode made it to air. Or, at least, that she wasn't replaced.

I remember seeing her as Mandy Patinkin’s adulterous wife in “Ragtime”.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | February 17, 2020 2:44 PM |
She was good in 1978's Summer Of Fear in her small role. Better than either Linda Blair or Lee Purcell were in that movie.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | February 17, 2020 2:53 PM |
Fran has no exaggerated whine or nasal speak at all in Summer Of Fear, her acting is fine and she also looks incredibly pretty. Lee Purcell is good but her performance is incredibly uneven, while Linda Blair moaps around looking like a woman who is shooting her 3rd possession movie.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | February 17, 2020 3:13 PM |
I love Fran!
She plays variations of herself, but she's hardly the only one.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | March 20, 2020 9:51 PM |
She was in The Last Temptation of Christ and she was fine.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | March 20, 2020 10:02 PM |
Her performance as Many Patinkin's cheating wife in Ragtime was the most against-type that I've seen from her.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | March 20, 2020 10:19 PM |
She was great in Saturday Night Fever as Connie.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | March 20, 2020 11:27 PM |
Bumping this because Saturday Night Fever was on TV tonight, and this is maybe the second time I’ve ever actually sat down and watched the whole thing (I was desperate for non COVID TV). She was great in just her little role and how much better would the film had been if she had been his co-star — or anyone who has any sort of charm and appeal. It really does hurt the otherwise good movie, ultimately .
And btw while we’re on the subject of Fran she is most definitely NOT a Republican — anyone see her anti-capitalism tweets from 2 days ago ? (Admittedly I haven’t done a search yet, but wanted to dispel that right here).

"Have you ever seen Fran Drescher actually act?"
Well, actually, every time she opens he mouth you see her act. She is a one note actor who cannot NOT let you see her act.
I yearn for the Hallmark Christmas movie where I cannot detect her acting.
