My Cavalier King Charles Dog has stopped eating

He was fine until a month ago. Now he just walks away and refuses to eat unless we hold him and spoon feed him. He went yesterday without any food. Today, we broke down and spoon fed him again. What do I do?

Aren't the brains of these dogs too big for their skulls? So cruel to breed them.

by Anonymousreply 1February 13, 2020 3:37 AM

Is he a rescue dog?

by Anonymousreply 2February 13, 2020 3:38 AM

See a Vet as dog may have intest final obstruction. Seriously see a vet

by Anonymousreply 3February 13, 2020 3:39 AM

Please get him to the vet ASAP!

by Anonymousreply 4February 13, 2020 3:39 AM

Go to the ER Vet.

by Anonymousreply 5February 13, 2020 3:41 AM

Cut your own head off because you are too stupid to live.

by Anonymousreply 6February 13, 2020 3:42 AM

R5 is correct.

by Anonymousreply 7February 13, 2020 3:42 AM

Beautiful ears!

by Anonymousreply 8February 13, 2020 3:42 AM

How old is he, OP?

by Anonymousreply 9February 13, 2020 3:46 AM

He might have a dental problem that makes it painful to eat. The vet needs to look at his teeth.

by Anonymousreply 10February 13, 2020 3:47 AM

If only there were such a thing as a doctor for pets, who might have professional training so as to tell you what to do! But of course such things do not exist.

Try giving Jim a steak cut up in small pieces.

by Anonymousreply 12February 13, 2020 4:07 AM

Giving "HIM" a steak. But you can give Jim one too.

by Anonymousreply 13February 13, 2020 4:08 AM

Hershey's chocolate syrup. Lots of it.

Shove that squeeze bottle down his gullet and go to town.

He'll be fine in the morning.

by Anonymousreply 14February 13, 2020 4:14 AM

Go to the vet. Do it now.

by Anonymousreply 15February 13, 2020 4:16 AM

Vet first.

If everything checks out OK, try making his meal time more interesting, like using a snuffle mat. You can also scatter the food in the grass so he has to hunt for it. That makes me dog so dang happy.

Making meal time mentally enriching is good for their mental health.

But again, the vet should be your first choice when your dog has a sudden change in behavior.

Please keep us updated.

by Anonymousreply 17February 13, 2020 4:26 AM

How old is he, how long have you had him, and what are you feeding him, OP? Did you change his food?

by Anonymousreply 18February 13, 2020 4:29 AM

If he’s older, it could be dental problems. He could be in a lot of pain. Take him ASAP.

by Anonymousreply 19February 13, 2020 4:35 AM

Pancreatitis

by Anonymousreply 20February 13, 2020 5:46 AM

Age?

by Anonymousreply 21February 13, 2020 5:54 AM

Vet, now

by Anonymousreply 22February 13, 2020 5:55 AM

He is five years old. We took him to the vet and he is fine. The vet said these dogs can be fussy, if they want , and go without eating for three days as long as he is drinking water, which he was. After two days of hand feeding him, and a big poop this morning, the vet said he is just being fussy. He said to put the food down and if he doesn't eat, pick it back up and try again a half hour later. If he hasn't eaten by the end of the night, throw it out and start the process again tomorrow. When he gets hungry he will eat. But, as long as he is drinking water and pooping his internal process is fine. I don't know about this.

by Anonymousreply 23February 13, 2020 5:13 PM

Thanks for the update, OP.

by Anonymousreply 24February 14, 2020 2:01 AM

what are you feeding him?

by Anonymousreply 25February 14, 2020 2:09 AM

Thank you for updating. I'm glad to know there is no apparent physical ailment.

Again, I recommend trying to make meals mentally stimulating for him. Or try sprinkling something tasty on top. Purina makes a probiotic powder that my dogs go crazy for. Or a little egg yolk. Something enticing.

I'd get bored of eating the same thing every day.

by Anonymousreply 26February 14, 2020 2:22 AM

Show your spoiled dog videos of starving street dogs in India. Tell him if he doesn't eat what you give him, you will send him to India to join the other dogs.

And after he starves, why don't you get a rescue dog who will be happy to eat any god damn food you give him.

by Anonymousreply 27February 14, 2020 2:36 AM

To me it seems strange he would suddenly become fussy with food at 5 years, especially if it's his regular food. I assume vets know from experience. Hope he's better.

by Anonymousreply 28February 14, 2020 2:41 AM

if you are feeding him tye same food you always do I bet they changed the formulation. they do it all the time.

by Anonymousreply 29February 14, 2020 2:49 AM

Still give him the chocolate.

by Anonymousreply 30February 14, 2020 2:52 AM

When my dog loses appetite, I always feed her Hermovit kid syrup to make her hungry and re-nourish her. Also syringe feed her Royal Canin Recovery until she wants to eat by herself. If that continues longer than 3 days, I will take her to the vet. Pyometa, heart disease, intestinal blockage, can cause dogs to lose appetite.

by Anonymousreply 31February 14, 2020 3:14 AM

My dog eats fresh food from nomnomnow.com and he does like it. I think he ate a lizard and got sick. He loves to chase lizards, but they are not good to eat. He has done this before, which is why I didn't really panic cause he still like to go on his walks.

He has the Canine Corona Virus, OP. Make the most of your last days with him.

by Anonymousreply 33February 14, 2020 3:59 AM

He is training you, OP. You can either turn the tables and train him, or you can succumb.

The vet is right: if there's nothing wrong with him, he'll eat when he's hungry, and he certainly won't die in the meantime.

by Anonymousreply 34February 14, 2020 4:27 AM

OP, Thanks for the update. I was worried about your doggie.
