by Anonymous | reply 20 | February 11, 2020 4:29 PM |
MSNBC was interviewing people who had already voted, the only Bernie voter was a huge younger guy with longer than shoulder length hair and a black eye. Talk about fitting the stereotype.
I am shocked at the number of older white men who have said they were voting or have voted for Mayor Pete.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | February 11, 2020 5:38 PM |
Is Dixville Notch some sort of hidden gay male Mecca? Five voters and four of them were men.

They work at a hotel up in northern New Hampshire.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | February 11, 2020 5:58 PM |
Are the numbers for Biden just bad in Iowa and New Hampshire or did they drop nationwide? I'm not a Biden fan, but if this Republican smear campaign on him and his son actually worked, I feel very sorry for him. He was leading all the polls before this started and he now only 4th or 5th place.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | February 11, 2020 6:16 PM |
yeah while Biden was not my #1 I do think the Trump/Giuliani/Fox "News"/Nunes etc smear campaign has worked against him. Even though the only factual thing is Hunter got the job in Ukraine out of nepotism, all the other stuff has been pushed ENDLESSLY for months now. Fox is still going with it. No way would Biden have fallen so fast without this.
I just hate how repubs and their dirty work of lies keep setting the narrative in this country. It always seems like Democrats are on the back foot

r24 I really don't think it had anything to do with his son or impeachment, Biden is just a bad campaigner and i don't really think he knows why he's running other than he's always wanted to be president.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | February 11, 2020 6:30 PM |
He thought he was owed the nomination. Hillary fell into this trap. Biden also thought being a centrist would help him since everyone but Pete at the time was a fringe candidate. Biden waited too long to get into the race and had no money.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | February 11, 2020 6:34 PM |
It's interesting that in Harts Location, two of the town leaders are a liberal, openly gay couple, and yet there was not one vote for Mayor Pete. Elizabeth Warren apparently got the vote.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | February 11, 2020 6:34 PM |
R27 At his age, it's someone else telling him he wants to be or should be president. I think it was the same with Trump, except the egomaniac has taken it to heart.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | February 11, 2020 6:35 PM |
I know people were buzzing about the general poll that came out yesterday comparing the top Democratic candidates against Trump but that's useless. They should do state by state comparisons for each candidate against Trump.

I really was rooting for Biden but he himself is to blame for this implosion. He has a difficult time presenting thoughts, doesn't debate well and just isn't coherent enough to take on Trump. He's just too old for this game. Too bad because I like the man.

6 in 10 New Hampshire Democrats want a nominee who can beat President Trump
8 in 10 who voted today say they plan to vote for the Democratic nominee in November regardless of who it is
6 in 10 say that impeachment hasn't made any difference in Trump's reelection chances
6 in 10 who turned out to vote in today's primary say they only made up their minds since the beginning of February, including nearly half who say they decided on their candidate just in the last few days.

Currently, he’s at about 86 percent, which is on the high side for an incumbent president running in the New Hampshire primary. My former colleague Kyle Kondik at the University of Virginia Center for Politics wrote about this today. Trump might like that he’s currently got about the same percentage as Ronald Reagan did in the 1984 Republican primary."

[QUOTE] We will DEFINITELY lose if Sanders is the nominee. That is not even up for debate. Trump was ENCOURAGING Republicans to vote for Sanders in today’s primary, for fuck’s sake.
The same way we were hoping Trump won the 2016 Republican primary, thinking it would make things easier for Hillary. Dems were also being encouraged to cross over and vote for Trump. And look how well it that plan worked.
Republicans might need to be careful what they wish for.

R315, agreed. To me, the only silver lining from November 2016 was alignment in government—a respite from divided government and stalled progress. Then, Trump failed to rise to the occasion, showed his incompetence and made his corruption known. It feels like the only significant output was judges—which makes him a success for the right. I hope we get a moderate lane Dem for president and regain both chambers of Congress. That way we may get some semblance of accomplishment. The Sanders agenda can only be realized with a shellacking of Trump—2/3 of Senate and majority of the house.

Klobuchar clearly has emotional/anger issues that arose around her father's alcoholism. She's a "dry drunk," family style.
She didn't go to Al-Anon or therapy and work that shit out. So she rages against her staff members and throws office supplies and punishes them for disloyalty by trying to get them fired from new jobs. She's passive-aggressively (or aggressive-aggressively) paying her father back on the campaign trail by mentioning his alcoholism at every opportunity.
The man was a famed regional newspaper columnist, but now to all of America he is Amy's Drunk Dad.

I'm not sure that this narrative that's emerging that it's fair to compare the totals of Pete, Amy and Biden and put them up against Bernie or even Bernie + Warren, because voters defy logic. When you look at many voters' second choices (if their preferred candidate doesn't win), they don't always gel ideologically. Warren is a second choice for a majority of voters, Bernie is number 2 for large percentage of Biden voters, for example.
Things will emerge as clear as mud after tonight. I don't think we'll have any of the major candidates dropping out before SC, of more likely, Super Tuesday.

You either win or you don’t. And what state is he going to win next?
by Anonymous | reply 540 | February 12, 2020 2:52 AM |
R533 I wasn't talking about the networks calling it, I was talking about the actual votes being reported. The last polls closed almost 3 hours ago, some votes were in within a half an hour why the hell does it take three hours to look at a voting machine and report the vote, this isn't a caucus.
by Anonymous | reply 541 | February 12, 2020 2:52 AM |
R540 Bernie’s appeal outside New Hampshire is over. Pete’s got plenty of appeal in other states including Nevada where I am.

You Go, Petey !
by Anonymous | reply 543 | February 12, 2020 2:54 AM |
Pete is so fucking bland and boring. All he does is spout meaningless platitudes. It's like he cut words out of Barack Obama's biggest hits and haphazardly taped them together.
by Anonymous | reply 544 | February 12, 2020 2:55 AM |
Jesus Christ. A gay man is in the lead for president of the United States.
Pete has 20 delegates to Bernie's 19.
What a moment. Even if it lasts just til the next primary, what a moment.
I'm 43 and never thought I'd see this in my lifetime.
by Anonymous | reply 545 | February 12, 2020 2:56 AM |
R544 you are a Bernie Bro, aren't you?
by Anonymous | reply 546 | February 12, 2020 2:56 AM |
Agreed, R545. It's a historic moment for a gay man to come this far.
by Anonymous | reply 547 | February 12, 2020 2:57 AM |
I find Pete inspiring.
by Anonymous | reply 548 | February 12, 2020 2:57 AM |
R542, Not to sidetrack the election coverage but have you any idea which way Las Vegas labor unions will go? They're decision along with the powerhouse casinos will dictate the direction of the state.

by Anonymous | reply 553 | February 12, 2020 2:58 AM |
that is true, r545. Don't mean to discount that. It is a great moment for all gay people, regardless of our politics.

R550 Bernie’s not winning Nevada and not California. I was born in California and living in Nevada. I don’t hear anybody talking about Bernie here but they are talking about Pete.
by Anonymous | reply 557 | February 12, 2020 3:00 AM |
Of course, Rachel had to interrupt Pete's speech to let us know Sanders won NH.

MSNBC uses a terrific head shot of Pete.

r556 Warren spoke early - there was no need for her to wait. She congratulated Bernie and Pete.
by Anonymous | reply 560 | February 12, 2020 3:01 AM |
I'm happy for Pete and I'm glad he's doing well. But it sucks Big Bucks Bloomberg is lurking in the shadows and he really doesn't have a shot.
by Anonymous | reply 561 | February 12, 2020 3:01 AM |
R549 Pete’s been talking to the labor unions here in Nevada.
He’s been also talking to the Latino communities here too
by Anonymous | reply 562 | February 12, 2020 3:02 AM |
I like Pete but I wish he'd speak more plainly. Every speech doesn't have to be his inaugural address.
by Anonymous | reply 563 | February 12, 2020 3:02 AM |
Yeah Sanders won the state overall. But Pete was a very close second.
by Anonymous | reply 564 | February 12, 2020 3:02 AM |
I can’t stand Rachel.

R557 is on some bullshit. We’ve got actual polls showing Bernie with a commanding lead in California versus a few anecdotal stories from some conversations among people you know. Yeah, I think I’ll stick with the polls.

On the evening he emerges with momentum from NH, Bernie is nuked in Nevada by Culinary with flyers in Spanish and English at union properties and direct communication to its 60,000 members via text and email.
A ratcheting up of the campaign targeting him. This is something.

All candidates have ignored Nevada compare to the amount of time given to NH and SC. Pete was criticized for ignoring NV back in December.
Let's hope he really hits the ground in NV and not skip it like Joe Biden because a bad showing could definitely cut his momentum.
by Anonymous | reply 585 | February 12, 2020 3:07 AM |
Isn't it normal for candidates to wait for others to finish their speeches before starting theirs? Shame on Bernie for not letting Pete finish.

R577, I told you months ago Vegas' union would decide the winner of NV. Teamster's both current members and retired as well as their spouses and relatives also wields tremendous political power in NV.
by Anonymous | reply 593 | February 12, 2020 3:10 AM |
R586, it pisses me off, too. Pete needed a couple minutes, and the Berntard sat there and stoked his fans for two minutes before starting. Every time I become open to him, he pulls this shit.

"Tonight I want to take the opportunity to express my appreciation and respect for all of the candidates we ran against... Pete Buttigieg, Amy Klobuchar, Elizabeth Warren, Joe Biden. And what I can tell you, without absolute certainty, and I know I speak for all the Democratic candidates, no matter who wins we are going to unite together and defeat the most dangerous president in the modern history of this country."
by Anonymous | reply 606 | February 12, 2020 3:14 AM |
R585, Again all Pete has to do win NV is successfully negotiate with the unions. They pay their members to vote, and that includes retirees and spouses and relatives too. Or visit them up to 6 times to make sure that they vote the union chosen slate.
Once Biden started to falter Pete had a clear entry. Unions will never vote for a Socialist. Also both unions and casinos have solid medical coverage. What could Sanders offer? Free college? Most union members go to trade school. Many have dropped out of high school and college isn't seen as important in NV as it is to other states.

R606, just like Donald Trump, Bernie Sanders says one thing and then his twitter army say another. Donald doesn’t name the whistleblower and Bernie doesn’t call Pete a racist, but certainly they make sure it gets said.
by Anonymous | reply 609 | February 12, 2020 3:18 AM |
Wonder if President Buttigieg will bring his mother to live in the White House the way Michelle Obama did.
by Anonymous | reply 610 | February 12, 2020 3:23 AM |
Look at the numbers for moderates Buttigieg, Biden and Klobuchar. Add them together, they’re beating the pants off Sanders and did in Iowa too, by large margins. A large majority are voting moderate.
But the vote is so split, because people that can’t possibly win are refusing to drop out. If Biden gets wiped out by Bloomberg or somebody else in SC, he needs to go. Bernie is being artificially propped up by Biden sucking up votes when he can’t win. Same with Warren. If she can’t come back by SC, she needs to go too. Assuming she has the money to get there.
When Bloomberg gets in, he will be another niche candidate like Bernie, and people will mistakenly believe he can win if he gets 15-20%. But he could top out there. The field is so split, if you get 25%, you look viable. But you’re not. No one can win an election when you can only get 25% of your own party.
Some of these people need to drop out immediately. They’re Bernie insurance. Thank god at least Yang went.
by Anonymous | reply 611 | February 12, 2020 3:38 AM |
I predict this is the beginning of the end of Bernie. Most voters in this country do not want a socialist, and he's not going to do well from here on out. He needs to go home and live a quiet life with his wife, since he probably doesn't have much longer to go.
by Anonymous | reply 612 | February 12, 2020 3:47 AM |
Yes R544, you’re right. Pete is so boring and bland. Every four years like clockwork, the Democratic Party runs a gay married man for President, and every four years we say, “A gay man is ahead in the primaries AGAIN?!”
It’s getting to the point where I hear my friends say all the time, “When are we finally going to have another straight couple in the White House?”
Even my mother, who loves the way the White House was re-done by the last gay couple, is getting tired of it. She misses seeing all the First Lady dresses.
