I can’t pick up any specific fruits, although I swear I can taste a hint of cinnamon. Is this a case of a pros of being named without any relation to the ingredients it’s named for, like Grape Nuts?
Eldergays, did Juicy Fruit gum actually taste like fruit to you?

No, of course not, but it was a delicious gum anyway. I loved it!

It had a distinct taste, but definitely not fruit.

I love both Juicy Fruit gum and Grape Nuts cereal but I have no idea what I'm chewing or eating. I just like them and have all my life. Both are amazingly the same, at least in taste if not ingredients as they were when I was a kid. There are very few edible things these days one can say that about.

I always hated Juicy Fruit. Do they still make it?

It was amazing for the first minute and a half you chewed it. After that the flavor was totally gone.

[quote] Which fruit serves as the model for its flavor is kept vague in advertising, though in 2003, advertising agency BBDO characterized it as a combination of banana and pineapple, and some people say it resembles jackfruit. According to two books in the Imponderables series, peach is one crucial flavor among many others.
[quote] It is likely that the chemical used for flavoring is isoamyl acetate (sometimes known as banana oil), a carboxylic ester, which is also found in jackfruit

I think this describes it pretty well:
"Officially, however, the gum is said to be flavored to taste like a mix of fruit, banana being a major one, but also including lemon, orange, and pineapple."

I always wondered if Juicy Fruit was marketed by the ADA to increase revenue. It was a cavity in every stick.

It tasted like fruit-flavored candy. How much does any fruit-flavored candy taste like the actual fruit?

Some do. I find that Mike & Ike’s are pretty realistically fruity. I realize it’s artificial, but when you eat ‘orange’ you can tell it’s supposed to be an orange and there is a crispness and cleaness to the flavors that I don’t always encounter in other artificially flavored candies.

Not fruity but a nice sugar hit when first chewed. Turned bland pretty quickly. Not as good as Beeman's Blackjack.

My Mom hated Juicy Fruit. Not because of the flavor but because in the 50's when she was dating, guys would chew JF gum to mask the smell of the alcohol they'd been drinking. Mom said they chewed it just before the end of the night so they could get a kiss. I guess they guys thought it would cover up the smell but really, it just mixed and was nauseating.
I feel the same way about Juicy Fruit as I feel about Dr. Pepper. I have no idea what the flavor is supposed to be but sometimes, it just hits the spot!
P.S. As a kid, I loved Fruit-stripe gum, too!

After about ten chews it started to taste like mildewy cardboard, or rancid asshole. So, yeah, a little fruity.

I always bought seedless.

It tastes like banana. Weird plasticky banana. Taste lasts all of 2 minutes.

Here’s one of my favorites from that era: Adams Ice Cream gum. I liked strawberry the best even though I don’t like strawberry ice cream (probably because this didn’t really taste that much like ice cream).

I find it tastes like a ripe as asian pear.
When I was a kid, a nieghbor had an asian pear tree. We'd eat them, even though they looked like weird brown apples, and didn't know exactly what they were.
We called it the "Juicy Fruit Gum" tree.

Actually, it tastes exactly like ROOT BEER.
