For some reason I can't explain when someone calls themselves queer I think they are saying they are bi. Maybe that's because I am bi and feel uncomfortable using THAT term to describe myself because of the lack of love for bi's in the gay community.
OTOH any guy or girl in a straight relationship that calls themselves queer, like Jameela, what else am I supposed to think they are saying?

[quote]What the hell does queer mean? I hate that word anyway. It’s cruel and harmful.
Me too. But straight kids on Tumblr like to describe themselves as such these days. It seems like very few actual gays call themselves “queer,” but we’re supposed to be OK with it.
In Jameela’s case, I’m sure she hopes people will think she’s bisexual, even though she’s been dating a man for the past five years. The reality is probably as R12 theorized.

Queer is what bisexual people say when they don't want to say bisexual.
Evan Rachel Wood, Janelle Monae and Ezra Miller all identify with "queer."
They say the only difference between "queer" and "bisexual" is that they're attracted to the "person" and not the gender.
Of course then the question becomes, "Does it matter if you're dating someone of the opposite sex?" Personally I find it less obnoxious than pansexual.

She's always pinged to me and there were rumors when she was hired and no one knew who she was that she'd been in a relationship with a woman and was hiding it. That's where some of the hate originated from, I'm pretty sure.
She is completely incompetent when it comes to social media and needs to learn to think before speaking, obviously. She is what my mother used to call high-strung. But this incident with the ballroom drag show wasn't her fault -- no one with any sense could hold Jameela Jamil responsible for HBO's publicity department. Does she even know what a press release is?

Her Wikipedia bio might as well read 'professional attention seeking faux-victim drama queen'
• born with congenital hearing loss and labyrinthitis
• diagnosed with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, a genetic disorder causing loose joints, joint pain, stretchy skin, and abnormal scar formation
• suffered from anorexia nervosa and did not eat a full meal between the ages of 14 and 17
• struck by a car while running from a bee, breaking several bones and damaging her spine...told that she might never walk again
• following a breast cancer scare (is that the new word for 'ambition'?), left London and moved to Los Angeles
• lost a tooth, smashed her nose, broke her elbow and got a concussion when she slipped and fell on her face while running around the set with Olly Murs
• had an abortion earlier in her life..."It was the best decision I have ever made"
• as part of World Mental Health Day, revealed she survived a suicide attempt six years prior
• partook in EMDR therapy to treat her post traumatic stress disorder
And now she's queer. Yay for our side?

This is why ‘queer’ is useless. Anyone can claim it when it’s convenient. She doesn’t say she is bisexual. That would be more of a commitment perhaps. She’s in a relationship with a man so obviously not a lesbian.
But when she is called out because she is a judge on a show entirely based on a part of gay culture she claims ‘queer’. Why wasn’t she more vocal from the start ? Because of trauma in her childhood ?
Like the trauma so many gay kids experienced that led them to find refuge in the Houses, the balls and the dance ? Incidentally, no one claimed ‘queer’ back then. Maybe they were being called it and being attacked for being it just too often to find the distance from the word that the passing years have now allowed others.
Fuck this posturing woke bullshit. Claiming ‘queer’ when it’s acceptable, even hip, isn’t anything to be proud of. Others did the work way before you.

She’s youthfully pretty and skinny and femme-glam, with woken cred and without baggage like kids or a ‘real’ job - so she’ll get away with saying whatever she likes.
Honestly I didn’t think she ever did anything else besides host pointless telly programmes, so hearing that she’s acting in L.A. now is a surprise. Good for her, I guess.
I mostly remember her hosting T4 (2000s U.K. pop-culture show about teen music & TV) where she ran free with her own annoying, smirky, vapid, insecure dullard-hipster kind. That show was a good fit for her style of presenting. I suppose the least we can say for her old pal Nick Grimshaw is that he came out as gay (not ‘queer’) and did so before he hit 30. I don’t know as I can say much else about him, though.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | February 9, 2020 2:14 PM |
From R53: “I think the reason Jameela Jamil has faced backlash is that her coming out feels inauthentic to people. It feels she was on the back foot, or reactionary, or the timing was off because it came just after she was criticised for being a judge on a voguing show, and because she’s made some ‘off’ or ignorant comments in the past.”
Or how about because she's very visibly in a HETEROSEXUAL relationship, and for all intents and purposes is treated in this society as a heterosexual, no matter what she calls herself or how she "identifies"? I've said it a million times, and I'll say it again: Oppression is not about how you see yourself, it's about how others see you. Straight people need to stop appropriating and profiting from the pain and struggles of gay men and lesbians.

She reminds me of Sara Ramirez from Grey's Anatomy. Ramirez came out as bisexual after leaving her show and then became insufferable on social media and would pick fights with networks and other people regarding bisexuality. She went nuts when the now canned sitcom The Real O'Neals made a joke about bisexuals in an episode. Soon after that she threw a bitch fit about Dustin Lance Black not including more bisexual characters in that ABC miniseries When We Rise.

And suddenly it's "Y'all, I thought I had to go lezbo, because ALL MEN are awful horrible asshole jerks. But now I found a new, dumb, young hunk to suck and fuck. And he kisses my ass and let's me be my freaky tacky self. And so, I am relieved to say, that I don't have to be a lesbian anymore."

[quote]Description This book is a memoir in which I've grappled with everything from mental illness to romantic frustration, from mysticism to homelessness. Thought is out of my mind's league, asides that which can come into being through my pen. I hope to have encapsulated something new with a stroke of something ancient. I cannot remember a time when I had the mental concentration to read without being suspended in an imprisoning haze, a dungeon's embrace. I would love to tell you in detail what my book is about, but I'm afraid I can't, as I haven't read it. " - Adnandus Dyzantae"
[quote]About the Author Adnandus Dyzantae is 31. He lives in Hampstead with his mother and sister. He has read only one book in his life and flicks through prefaces, due to an absence of concentration. He spent 8 years alone in the wilderness of mental illness before being diagnosed by a psychiatrist at 24. Adnandus hopes medication and CBT will help him in his quest to gain some degree of formal education so he can continue his passion for writing. Reading still produces feelings of negative absorption within him, causing acute psychological discomfort. Yet he's written prolifically (some 300 poems) since dropping out of school at 17. This is his first book in prose. Adnandus writes from brain to paper without returning to change a single word of his work...probably because it would involve reading! He also composes music and lyrics. None of his work has been publicly seen before.

She reminds me of Anne Flatch with all her maladies. Her difficulties included:
Facial amnesia i.e. an inability to recognize faces. In the first episode, Anne meets Josh and she tells him she has this as a way to explain why they meet for the first time several times. Ever the optimist, Anne sees the perks of her illness. In a confessional, she explains, “With my husband, it’s like sleeping with a different man every night.” She also overcompensates by being really good at identifying other body parts.
Spontaneous human combustion when her colleague spots smoke coming from Flatch’s arm, she confesses that she suffers from a localized strain of SHC that is activated when she drinks rum
Alice in Wonderland syndrome this syndrome manifests as an inability to properly perceive the size of things.
Nocturnal lagophthalmos this disorder allows the afflicted to sleep with their eyes wide open.
St.Vitus Dance a condition that causes Flatch to involuntarily raise her hand.

Jameela Jamil denies suffering from Munchausen’s Syndrome
Embattled “Good Place” actress Jameela Jamil has defended herself after a thread by writer Tracie Egan Morrissey on the latter’s Instagram Stories that accused Jamil of having Munchausen’s Syndrome went viral this week.
While a variant of Munchausen’s Syndrome, Munchausen by proxy, was at the center of Hulu’s “The Act” — the story of Dee Dee Blanchard and her daughter Gypsy Rose — Morrissey theorized that Jamil’s many stories about her personal health — and the alleged contradictions within those stories — are indicative of the “main” disorder, where an individual repeatedly and knowingly fakes mental or physical illnesses for attention. The thread was spreading across social media Tuesday, and Jamil evidently caught wind of it Wednesday, returning to Twitter to knock down the rumors.
Jamil went on a lengthy point-by-point clarification of Egan’s accusations, ultimately concluding, “Not afraid of you or your dumb internet conspiracy theories. Keep them coming. You just add to my relevance. I’m gonna keep helping people with eating disorders, and changing laws and global policies to protect kids and their mental health and there’s NOTHING you can do about it.”
Previously on the Jameela Jamil Twitter show, the actress, 33, came out as queer after receiving backlash over her involvement in the forthcoming HBO show “Legendary,” which focuses on drag and ballroom culture. After pinning part of the blame for the controversy on “mistakes” of the journalists involved, Jamil announced that “Twitter is brutal” and said she’d be taking a break from the platform.
Welcome back.

Wow, that Twitter thread. She is clearly a pathological liar, but if even half the Twitter thread is true it sounds like she overcame some pretty horrendous abuse growing up. It’s no wonder she has mental health problems.
It’s complicated though because she clearly does have Ehlers Danlos, and I believe she had/has anorexia. And some of the claims made in the Twitter thread eg needing special qualifications to teach ESL are not true. I taught English in Italy when I was 19 and was hired sight unseen by a company that basically hires any native English speaker. One of my friends just returned from teaching English in China and it was the same deal. There are zillions of English schools that will hire any British person without qualifications, so that claim doesn’t hold water. (Jamil may or may not have taught, I don’t know, but it’s BS to say she can’t have.)

Who is the boyfriend? He’s not the James Blake who sang “You’re Beautiful,” right? That guy’s on Twitter and is actually pretty funny.
by Anonymous | reply 112 | February 15, 2020 5:51 AM |
That was James Blunt, dear.
I hope the actual boyfriend has a sense of humor. He's going to need it when they split and her tall tales about their relationship start rolling out:
"He made me sleep hanging from the shower rod like a bat! That's how I died three times of COVID-19!!"

James Blake is a fucking brilliant musician who, unfortunately, had gotten wrapped up with this lying vagina bearer. I saw him live last April, and he was amazing.
Oh James....you could do much better than Munchausen Jamila.
by Anonymous | reply 114 | February 15, 2020 6:02 AM |
I only know James Blake because Shawn Pyfrom made a fangirl post to him on social media and someone linked to it on a Colton thread.

Oh dear. Senility sets in! Thank you for clearing that up.

She has Munchausen, he has Stockholm.

You're not the only one, R112/R116.
[quote]Mercury Prize host Lauren Laverne accidentally introduced nominated artist James Blake as “James Blunt” at the awards ceremony at London’s Roundhouse tonight (October 30). The evening’s host mistakenly called out the name of the ‘You’re Beautiful’ singer to the amusement of the crowd as electronica artist Blake – whose second album ‘Overgrown’ eventually won this year’s gong – took to the stage to perform the song ‘Retrograde’.

James Blake is magnificent and it is sad to see him caught up in this.
Though it is funny that he didn’t address her newly-evolved sexuality in his statement. He also probably thinks it’s rubbish.

[Quote] It all circles back to Colton Haynes.
Maybe he will end up working with Jameela in the near future.

"Jameela Jamil" -annoying name, like Chris Christie.

In three years she'll be Perfume Girl #2 in Marks & Spencer.

She has taken time out from explaining, finger-wagging, wig fittings, begging for sympathy, and explaining some more to battle it out — cunt v. cunt — with Piers Morgan over Caroline Flack. Or more precisely, over a text CF sent to PM about JJ, which he has now seen fit to make public.
Piers screamed:
[quote] Jameela Jamil is having a lot to say about online harassment, so in the interests of balance, here is a message Caroline Flack sent me last October after the same Jameela Jamil led an online pile-on against her regarding a new TV show she was doing.
Jameela shrieked:
[quote]I simply said I found the show “surjury” (not her) problematic for kids to watch. And that love island needed some more diversity. Both times Caroline instigated debate with ME even though I was not targeting or blaming her at all. I always just politely explained my point.
[quote]Piers Using a dead woman who I was friends with, as a weapon to try to create further harassment for me as I’ve JUST explained publicly that last week I felt suicidal... is why he is this industry’s most problematic . My criticizing a *show* did not aim any hate at Caroline.
Caroline could not be reached for comment.

Jameela has t politely explained anything in her life.
Can’t wait for her to limp back to the UK like her evil twin Piers.
by Anonymous | reply 124 | February 24, 2020 3:47 AM |
I loathe Piers, but he produced the receipts on this one. It fits, too.
Jameela has 'smug mean girl' written all over her woke smirk.

She really is a piece of work. Get her on the next season of Celebrity Big Brother now!

"I feel suicidal" is the hot new silencing tactic on social media.

who the hell is she?

The "that's a dude" block in the image at R129 has been incorrectly placed in the area opposite to where it should be.

Jesus, the sheer cringe of her entire approach to life is palpable.
by Anonymous | reply 131 | February 24, 2020 2:33 PM |
Can't stand this smug, insufferable cunt. The queen of the Oppression Olympics. Ugh.

Attention!
Jameela Jamil would like to remind you that two years ago today she singlehandedly created movements which had already been around for 40+ years.
[quote]2 years ago today I posted a tweet about how we measure women’s worth on weighing scales. I also wrote this essay at the time. I had no idea that it would go on to create such a huge and beautiful ongoing movement against body/mental health/lgbtq shame.

Is this performance art like Joaquin’s “I’m Still Here” period? She’s more self centered than the character she played on The Good Place!
by Anonymous | reply 134 | February 25, 2020 1:51 AM |
I haven't followed her... movement. Is she just throwing that "lgbtq" thing in at the end, or had she long been an advocate?
by Anonymous | reply 135 | February 25, 2020 4:26 AM |
Has she tested positive for Coronavirus yet? I imagine she or Rose McGowan will be first out the celebrity gates.

R128 She's a character on The Good Place, with Ted Fandom and Kristin Bell.
Here's a scene with her and Ted Danson.

I love that we’re seeing these hipster Gladys Kravtizes getting exposed. Jameela might get driven out of America like Piers Morgan.

"I drift toward her and away from her, trying hard to remember that, no matter how I fight it, she is me. I am her."
Watch out there, Lens. This could easily be interpreted as "transphobic" these days.
