God, what a race to the bottom those choices are, OP.
You neglected to include TOTAL RECALL. She's terrific in a supporting (but essential) role and it's probably more entertaining than any of the choices you listed.
Given all that, I think CASINO is probably her strongest performance to date, but far from my favorite of her films.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | February 4, 2020 9:58 PM |
She’s fantastic in three films: Basic Instinct, Casino, and Total Recall. Good in The Muse and The Mighty. The rest are... meh.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | February 4, 2020 10:01 PM |
Don't forget "Gloria"! Co-starring Jeremy Northam as a totally believable New York mobster! Well, at least he was a hot piece of ass.

I prefer her in Steven Soderbergh's miniseries Mosaic.

Grease 2 was her best.

Irreconcilable Differences. Hilarious performance!

Casino is one of my favorite films ever, period. So this is a no-brainer.

Silver was a lot of fun. Billy Bdwin was hot af back then.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | February 5, 2020 3:21 AM |
I've seen so many actresses fuck up the femme fatale role that I'd have to say Basic Instinct. She manages to be incredibly campy and fun while still seemingly like a genuine threat and still being sexy. Not as easy as it looks.
She was even watchable in the sequel, which was a huge step down for the first.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | February 5, 2020 3:34 AM |
She was very, very good in Bobby, DL. If you haven’t seen it, it’s a brilliant look at the day RFK was assassinated, from the point of view of those who were actually there at the Ambassador Hotel that night.

Intersection (1994)
by Anonymous | reply 15 | February 5, 2020 4:01 AM |
Wow, she's been in a lot of shit movies.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | February 5, 2020 4:17 AM |
Total Recall. That was when Paul Verhoeven saw her ability to turn on a dime, and realized he needed her for Basic Instinct.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | February 5, 2020 4:46 AM |
R15 Really? Why? Just asking because it’s an obscure choice.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | February 5, 2020 4:47 AM |
Casino was about one hour too long (run time 2 hours, 58 minutes). The Ace character DeNiro was too one-dimensional. Yes, he is a simp. You don't need to demonstrate that in ten different ways.
Scorcese did Sharon Stone a huge favor when the Ginger character was introduced. She looked absolutely beautiful and she was charismatic. Second half of the movie, it was like she was made to look ugly & ridiculous, with that dried-up Carol Brady wig and stiff leather outfits. Ugh.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | February 5, 2020 5:00 AM |
R19 I think it’s a perfect film. Not too long, the length was needed for the progression of the characters. Her fashion and hairstyle were a product of the era and her becoming a non-functioning addict. De Niro was the stable character to the Pesci & Stone disasters. Her performance is highly underrated and is one of the best female film performances ever. It was her moment and the character was made for her, no one else could have played it better. Though I have wondered how Charlize Theron would handle it.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | February 5, 2020 5:15 AM |
The film I would have loved to seen her in was STOMPANATO. She was Lana. Film never made.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | February 5, 2020 5:56 AM |
I think Madonna is a horrible actress, but somehow I can see her as Ginger in Casino. (Same age as Sharon Stone.) M's speaking voice is a turn-off, though. Never mind.

A filmography that includes only one good film.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | February 5, 2020 7:31 AM |
All the Sliver votes were just beating it to Baldwin.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | February 5, 2020 7:35 AM |
Basic Instinct was really the best role of her career. She nailed Catherine and I can't imagine any other actress who could have carried that role off - not even close. I still love the movie - campiness and all. Casino is a close second.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | February 5, 2020 7:48 AM |
R25 BI is a great Sociopath performance but one note, Casino was a much more complex character.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | February 5, 2020 7:50 AM |
For the person who asked: She's okay in 'Gloria'. Her accent sucks and the movie is a really pale imitation of the Cassavetes/Rowland original. Honestly, it should not have even been marketed as a re-make. An ex and I would sometimes watched both of them at the same time, like, twenty minutes of the original and then ten minutes of the 're-make', trying to keep the plots in sync…we were on a lot of drugs.

R14, I was going to say the same thing! I really like "Bobby" and think she should have been nominated for the Supporting Actress Oscar for the film.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | February 5, 2020 8:33 AM |
r18, I know Intersection has its share of critics, but I saw it as a 50's style melodrama, the type of movie Stone would've excelled in, and she does here. She has a great sex scene with Richard Gere: they're at a party at her father's house and he wants a quickie, so they do it fully clothed in the library, she's all nervous and chattering through the whole thing, she's fantastic. And I love the moment in this scene where she laughs near the end, it seems so real, so genuine. It may not be Streep or Lange, but it's a true STAR performance: after years in the business, she nailed that charismatic presence, and it was a joy to behold.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | February 5, 2020 2:29 PM |
This poll is kind of brutal. Why would you not include her better indie films like Broken Flowers with Bill Murray, or The Muse with Albert Brooks, or Fading Gigolo with John Turturro. Or The Disaster Artist with James Franco.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | February 5, 2020 2:44 PM |
I tried to watch Casino for the first time a few weeks ago and I had to turn it off before her character even appeared onscreen: that constant narration annoyed the living hell out of me. That's just one of the laziest storytelling techniques possible (and Scorsese sure likes to use it a lot).
by Anonymous | reply 32 | February 5, 2020 3:00 PM |
I liked her as Carly Norris in SLIVER.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | February 5, 2020 3:05 PM |
She’s hilarious in Basic Instinct 2. I like it as much as the first film for trash viewing.
And I love the much-maligned remake of Diabolique with Isabelle Adjani. They both scream International Superstar in every scene.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | February 5, 2020 3:28 PM |
Diabolique is underrated. It can't hold a candle to the original, but it's really fun.

by Anonymous | reply 37 | February 5, 2020 9:18 PM |
r37, were you alive in the 90s? Sharon Stone was one of the five biggest female movie stars on the planet during that decade, alongside Julia Roberts, Meg Ryan, Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg.

I loved Basic In-Stink.

I’m a Sharon Stone fan. She’s like a movie star from the 1930s to the 1950s. She’s gifted actress.
She was magnificent in “Bobby”, delightfully campy in “Diabolique” and fierce in “The Quick and the Dead.” Although some of her movies were panned by the critics, she always gave a stellar performance. “Last Dance” , “Casino” and of course “Basic Instinct” contained some of her finest work.
In this clip, she dressed like a movie queen in the 1930s. It’s breathtaking!
by Anonymous | reply 40 | February 5, 2020 10:24 PM |
Stone will always be one of the most flawlessly gorgeous women to ever appear on film (I can't think of a single one MORE gorgeous for that matter). She was also a quite talented actor in many of her films. She deserves her career and acclaim that finally came with it; she worked tirelessly for years to attain it.

Have you seen the 1974 TV version REFLECTIONS OF MURDER, starring DL icon Joan Hackett, DL icon Tuesday Weld, and DL icon Sam Waterston? I actually like it better than the (DL icons) Stone/Ajani remake.
It’s on YouTube in 10 parts. All iconic!
I actually saw this on late night TV when I was little, and found it gripping! I didn’t know anything about the original French film back then.

Well, thanks to OP, I just watched “Bobby” again, it’s such a great movie and pretty much forgotten!
I’d also like to thank myself, r14, for clicking on this thread. Thank you, me.
Sharon, Sharon, Sharon... you really surprised me here. In fact, the whole cast turn in staggering performances, even bad actors like Lohan and Demi Moore. I never could stand Moore, but here she astonished me, playing a famous but dangerously alcoholic chanteuse. I guess the props are due to director Emilio Estevez whom I also never believed had it in him.
I’m attaching a clip of the trailer for DL. If you haven’t seen it, do. Take a look at the cast and see how many actors you recognize. Each one is remarkable here. Killer soundtrack, too. Killer.
I’m sure Sharon Stone thanks you, I’m sure of it.

R45, all of the performances in “Bobby” were flawless. The movie was powerful. Lindsay Lohen has genuine talent and I was astounded by the depth and sensitivity she brought to the role. It was her finest performance. If Lindsay applied herself, if she would rid herself of her demons, she would win an Oscar in the future.
The scene with Demi Moore and Sharon Stone was emotionally moving. The look of sorrow on Demi’s face was harrowing as she watched Sharon’s raw sensitivity.
Emilio Esteves direction was superb. He should do more films as a director.

I'm going to hell for this, but Sliver is my favorite.
Casino is certainly her "best", but I will always enjoy the sheer lurid trash of Sliver.

Considering Sharon’s genius in playing camp roles, I’d love to see her team up with John Waters.

Made for TV but part of the anthology If These Walls Could Talk 2 has Sharon the lesbian lover of Ellen DeGeneres in a piece directed by Ellen's then squeeze Anne Heche. Sharon is a marvellous ditz even if she has to endure a graphic love scene with Ellen.

Such a mess of a movie, but with fascinating bits and pieces.

I do think her beauty peaked in the early/mid 90s. No doubt she was feature but feature always very pretty, I’m not trying to argue that, but she didn’t really look like a “movie star.” Maybe it was her hair, maybe it was because she was a little thicker, idk.

Hi Sharon! Hi!
by Anonymous | reply 63 | February 6, 2020 4:30 AM |
R61 - Sharon was "thick"?? LOL She was stunningly perfect by almost all accounts. If Sharon Stone has ever been fat (at any age), I have no idea what actresses you find to be sexy. Joan Rivers?
by Anonymous | reply 64 | February 6, 2020 5:25 AM |
Bobby was indeed a fantastic film. I never hear anybody reference it anymore. Snap out of it!
by Anonymous | reply 65 | February 6, 2020 5:34 AM |
R64 oh geez nowhere did I say she was fat — I think she looks fine. But she was of a range where an agent or producer here and there might have told her to “lose 5 lbs,” or make sure she doesn’t go over what she is. Even she herself admitted in that interview (and other interviews) that she was more of an “athletic” build and has always had to work at it a bit. She’s not tall and broad like Cybill Shepherd but she’s not built like a willowy model either. She’s somewhere in the middle, naturally.
You are offended by the term thick fine she had a few more pounds on her in the 80s Vs the 90s and later. For whatever reason.
Whew.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | February 6, 2020 5:35 AM |
She did say on Oprah once that she has 3 wardrobes of clothes in different sizes. For when she’s not working, when she’s working, and when she’s trying to get ready to work (the in between size).
