by Anonymousreply 5February 4, 2020 3:09 AM

If they need to fill time Steve Kornacki could take off his shirt.

by Anonymousreply 6February 4, 2020 3:10 AM

There is something seriously going wrong here.

by Anonymousreply 7February 4, 2020 3:10 AM

Whats going on gurl?

Emergency meeting is about to take place in downtown Des Moines over "significantly different results" being reported between app reported numbers and called-in numbers. Per Jeff Zeleny campaign representatives are arriving to this private meeting now.

by Anonymousreply 9February 4, 2020 3:12 AM

I knew Bernie’s polling was way over inflated.

Go Pete!!!

by Anonymousreply 10February 4, 2020 3:12 AM

Bernie's gonna win

by Anonymousreply 11February 4, 2020 3:12 AM

Bernie Bros probably hacked the vote

by Anonymousreply 12February 4, 2020 3:12 AM

oh good lord, oh godammit, oh please don't do this fuck up, please Iowa, please America, listen to RuPaul and DON'T FUCK IT UP!!!!

by Anonymousreply 13February 4, 2020 3:12 AM

I have better luck with Grindr than the IDP has with this app.

The apps don't work so the precinct chairs are texting the results to the country chair who is driving to Iowa Democratic Party HQ right now.

by Anonymousreply 16February 4, 2020 3:14 AM

They blew it. Big time.

by Anonymousreply 17February 4, 2020 3:15 AM

MORE: Polk County precinct chairs are being advised to take pictures of the results and text them over to the Polk County executive director, who is driving them to the HQ, according to a Democratic operative familiar with the situation

by Anonymousreply 19February 4, 2020 3:16 AM

Just redo this with paper voting next Monday. Caucusing is dumb

by Anonymousreply 20February 4, 2020 3:16 AM

Apparently an Iowa county chair got hung up on on live television on CNN.

You can't make it up.

by Anonymousreply 21February 4, 2020 3:16 AM

A precinct captain was waiting an hour on hold to reach headquarters. A woman finally answers but hangs up because the precinct captain was yapping with Wolf Blitzer.

by Anonymousreply 22February 4, 2020 3:16 AM

[quote]They blew it. Big time.

It's okay. I can handle blowing no problem.

by Anonymousreply 23February 4, 2020 3:17 AM

Cntr Alt Del Iowa, Florida, Ohio off the map?

by Anonymousreply 24February 4, 2020 3:17 AM

Iowa sucks

by Anonymousreply 25February 4, 2020 3:17 AM

R6 I'm interested in Kornacki's entrance poll

by Anonymousreply 26February 4, 2020 3:17 AM

I wish CNN and MSNBC would release their full entrance polls at this point.

by Anonymousreply 27February 4, 2020 3:17 AM

"Officials from two Democratic campaigns tell CNN they were told the app to tabulate results had crashed. They said they had not been given any other information."

by Anonymousreply 28February 4, 2020 3:17 AM

R21.. I saw that. Hilarious. Fucking Blitzer was trying to talk him into letting CNN listen live when they hung up. Thanks, Wolf.

by Anonymousreply 29February 4, 2020 3:17 AM

That thread posted by r15 our beloved Poll Troll is very interesting

by Anonymousreply 30February 4, 2020 3:17 AM

Yeah, I heard that r21. Surprised no one else commented on it here on DL. It was astonishing to witness that LIVE on CNN.

by Anonymousreply 31February 4, 2020 3:18 AM

Cobbling together the partial results, it looks like a good night for Pete.

by Anonymousreply 32February 4, 2020 3:18 AM

Surprise! I won bitches!

by Anonymousreply 34February 4, 2020 3:19 AM

I'm laughing. I'm not happy, but I'm laughing. Oh, this fucking country is so fucking ridiculous at this point. I'm laughing. But I'm not happy.

by Anonymousreply 35February 4, 2020 3:19 AM

Amy’s speeching .going to NH!

by Anonymousreply 36February 4, 2020 3:19 AM

[quote]Polk County precinct chairs are being advised to take pictures of the results and text them over to the Polk County executive director, who is driving them to the HQ,

Why would he have to drive texts to the HQ? Why wouldn’t precinct captains just text the HQ?

by Anonymousreply 37February 4, 2020 3:19 AM

She's throwing her stapler and shaking!

by Anonymousreply 38February 4, 2020 3:19 AM

Klobuchar speaking now. She’s the first to do so (as has been advised by numerous anchors on CNN and MSNBC.) Hitting Trump and the impeachment.

by Anonymousreply 39February 4, 2020 3:20 AM

...Biden people bailed and went to Pete or Amy.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 40February 4, 2020 3:20 AM

Rachel Maddow had a good theory for the delay, since the app wasn't working so well more people called results in than they were expecting instead of using the app and they didn't have the personnel available to take all the phone calls.

by Anonymousreply 41February 4, 2020 3:20 AM

R33, I love that Cecile Strong’s impression of Gabbard is more resonate to me than Gabbard herself. That has never been true for me in the past.

by Anonymousreply 42February 4, 2020 3:20 AM

Other sites are attributing the faulty app to Robby Mook. Is that really true? (I'm not watching cable.)

by Anonymousreply 43February 4, 2020 3:20 AM

R21 what happened? Who hungung up on who?

by Anonymousreply 44February 4, 2020 3:20 AM

Dear fucking jeebus r37. Sweet fucking jeebus.

by Anonymousreply 45February 4, 2020 3:20 AM

2016 (finally) taught us that voting machines results can be electronically hacked.

So why, in 2020, did they turn simple caucusing results over to an app?

by Anonymousreply 46February 4, 2020 3:20 AM

Smart Amy. Act like a winner!

by Anonymousreply 47February 4, 2020 3:20 AM

Amy was smart - she's giving a victory speech because no results are in.

by Anonymousreply 51February 4, 2020 3:21 AM

[quote]Shawn Sebastian: I am the caucus secretary for Story County Precinct 1-1. I've been on hold for over an hour to report the results. We have 6 delegates

This idiot was so busy complaining to Wolf Blitzer on LIVE TV! and playing the hold Muzak for CNN, that when the hotline answered in the middle of his whine, you could hear the woman say "Hello, hello" six times and he never even answered her. Then we heard her hang up.

by Anonymousreply 52February 4, 2020 3:21 AM

Amy’s hubs not how I pictured

by Anonymousreply 53February 4, 2020 3:21 AM

R44, the operator clearly asked for someone to speak and after Sebastian failed to answer, she hung up.

by Anonymousreply 54February 4, 2020 3:21 AM

This will be Trump's talking point tomorrow night. Ugh

by Anonymousreply 55February 4, 2020 3:22 AM

Has it occurred to the brain trusts at CNN and MSNBC that it might take longer this year than four years ago because then there were only three candidates and this year there are 427 which have to be split up and then regrouped?

by Anonymousreply 56February 4, 2020 3:22 AM

Has a Presidential candidate ever been successful with a theme color of green?

by Anonymousreply 57February 4, 2020 3:22 AM

Will this be the end of Amy? Wasn't the Corn Belt supposed to be her people?

by Anonymousreply 58February 4, 2020 3:22 AM

And we wonder why the republic party wins.

by Anonymousreply 59February 4, 2020 3:22 AM

[quote]Other sites are attributing the faulty app to Robby Mook.

Hillary there Amy's comb at him... poked his eye out.

by Anonymousreply 60February 4, 2020 3:23 AM

What is she doing? She needs us Midwesterners... don't leave me Amy~

by Anonymousreply 61February 4, 2020 3:23 AM

R59 is an idiot.

by Anonymousreply 62February 4, 2020 3:23 AM

Oh No. Amy is pulling an all nighter...

by Anonymousreply 63February 4, 2020 3:23 AM

And yes the king of Denmark

by Anonymousreply 64February 4, 2020 3:23 AM

Every time I hear Klobuchar speak, I like her less and less.

by Anonymousreply 65February 4, 2020 3:23 AM

Just when Mook thought he was going to make a comeback.

by Anonymousreply 66February 4, 2020 3:23 AM

I can’t get past her treatment of her staff. Nice speech, though.

by Anonymousreply 67February 4, 2020 3:24 AM

The staff members that are allowing someone to hold up a poster in front of Amy's face is really going to get it tomorrow.

by Anonymousreply 68February 4, 2020 3:24 AM

She would have set Iowa straight. I STILL BELIEVE IN YOU MARIANNE

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 69February 4, 2020 3:24 AM

The party has acknowledged there is a delay, R56, and it has nothing to do with the number of candidates.

by Anonymousreply 70February 4, 2020 3:24 AM

Amy has no real appeal outside the Midwest. It's such bullshit that we pander to just that one part of the country with very few people as the only real Americans who's opinion counts as American.

by Anonymousreply 71February 4, 2020 3:25 AM

BERNIE

by Anonymousreply 72February 4, 2020 3:25 AM

Amy actually looks pretty good

by Anonymousreply 73February 4, 2020 3:25 AM

Amy has been on TV all day and looks it.

by Anonymousreply 74February 4, 2020 3:25 AM

R49 Thanks! And omg...

by Anonymousreply 75February 4, 2020 3:26 AM

You can't blame this on trans.

by Anonymousreply 76February 4, 2020 3:26 AM

seriously, if this is actually Robert Mook, can some gay guy slap him from here to South Carolina? Why does that bitch suck so much at everything, and why does everyone keep thinking she doesn't?

by Anonymousreply 77February 4, 2020 3:26 AM

K, I'm already up past my bedtime and I don't think they're gonna straighten this out anytime soon. Good night ppl.

by Anonymousreply 78February 4, 2020 3:26 AM

Amy shaking that they took the secret stapler away from inside the podium.

by Anonymousreply 79February 4, 2020 3:26 AM

by Anonymousreply 81February 4, 2020 3:27 AM

Amy is shaking a lot less tonight - did she take her Levodopa?

by Anonymousreply 82February 4, 2020 3:27 AM

Amy’s victory speech with NO RESULTS YET!

I love her now. Bish is brassy!

by Anonymousreply 83February 4, 2020 3:27 AM

r71 FUCK YEAH! WE ARE WORTHLESS!

by Anonymousreply 84February 4, 2020 3:28 AM

seriously, I would put Joan Crawford in charge of this bitch if I thought it could help. What the hell is happening with this goddamn party?

by Anonymousreply 85February 4, 2020 3:28 AM

Warren and Biden speaking shortly. Pete and Bernie to go last.

by Anonymousreply 86February 4, 2020 3:28 AM

Amy Klobuchar may actually be the least funny person on the planet.

by Anonymousreply 87February 4, 2020 3:29 AM

Inconsistencies in the reporting of the three sets of vote totals from each precinct.

by Anonymousreply 88February 4, 2020 3:30 AM

R71

A large segment of voters live in that part of the country, and that elitist attitude is what cost us the election last time, so drop it!

by Anonymousreply 89February 4, 2020 3:30 AM

Update: There are many precinct chairs still on hold trying to report results. Phone lines are jammed and reporting is going VERY slowly, per source

by Anonymousreply 90February 4, 2020 3:30 AM

well in fairness, I think we knew that going in r87

by Anonymousreply 91February 4, 2020 3:30 AM

I liked Amy's speech

by Anonymousreply 92February 4, 2020 3:30 AM

MSNBC is now interviewing this Sebastian guy from the Wolf Blitzer phone call. He’s STILL on hold.

This is amazing.

by Anonymousreply 93February 4, 2020 3:31 AM

Joe!! Go Joe!!

by Anonymousreply 94February 4, 2020 3:31 AM

Put that BITCH of a vote tally where a vote tally ought to be!

by Anonymousreply 95February 4, 2020 3:31 AM

How many media outlets did Shawn Sebastian run to?

by Anonymousreply 96February 4, 2020 3:31 AM

You should see her eat a salad with a comb. Comedy gold. Nathan Lane is going to play her in drag in raucous new Broadway musical, Not-so Funny Girl.

by Anonymousreply 97February 4, 2020 3:31 AM

Why are parties so incompetent with technology? The "app" just needs to function as a one-way text message, not too complicated!

by Anonymousreply 101February 4, 2020 3:32 AM

by Anonymousreply 104February 4, 2020 3:33 AM

by Anonymousreply 105February 4, 2020 3:33 AM

Joe.....Stop reading from your notes!!

by Anonymousreply 106February 4, 2020 3:33 AM

But, technology is the king of everything!!! Get it, Boomer!?! I'm not gonna vote on any paper or nuthin' like that. Give me my phone or give me death. I think one of the old presidents from the 60s said that! Or, ya know, whatever. *back to Instagram* Ha...funny Shakira tongue meme...hahaha.

by Anonymousreply 107February 4, 2020 3:33 AM

Is there no one the silly little bitch won't complain to?

Too bad while he was talking to Rachel Maddow about how long he's been on hold, Joe Biden's speech started and Rachel had to bow out.

by Anonymousreply 108February 4, 2020 3:33 AM

Maybe a DNS server attack?

by Anonymousreply 109February 4, 2020 3:33 AM

by Anonymousreply 113February 4, 2020 3:34 AM

honestly, and I don't want to make too much of this r98 as an eldergay myself, but I suspect cootishness is probably part of the problem here. I am going to seriously suggest this is some old fucks with some old ideas favoring some old candidates who cannot get their shit together long enough to make a perfectly easy thing happen.

could be wrong.

by Anonymousreply 114February 4, 2020 3:35 AM

Will Joe remind us to turn on our record players when we get home?

by Anonymousreply 115February 4, 2020 3:35 AM

“And FOLKS...”

by Anonymousreply 116February 4, 2020 3:35 AM

by Anonymousreply 120February 4, 2020 3:35 AM

Biden's campaign feels incredibly anemic and enthusiasm for him seems noticeably listless. Even Jill seems kind of bored. I'd gladly support him if he were the nominee, but it doesn't seem like he's got much momentum at the moment.

by Anonymousreply 121February 4, 2020 3:36 AM

by Anonymousreply 122February 4, 2020 3:36 AM

by Anonymousreply 124February 4, 2020 3:36 AM

Aren't caucuses where you stand next to people to vote and then people count people and write the number down on paper? They fucked up counting. Get some kindergarteners in there, stat!

by Anonymousreply 125February 4, 2020 3:36 AM

Joe gives a shout out to the gays!

by Anonymousreply 126February 4, 2020 3:36 AM

by Anonymousreply 128February 4, 2020 3:37 AM

by Anonymousreply 129February 4, 2020 3:37 AM

inconsistencies in the reporting of 3 sets of results WTF

so human error?

can no one count in Iowa?

by Anonymousreply 130February 4, 2020 3:38 AM

I get the impression that the second round votes simultaneously showing add’l viable candidates AND fewer votes freaked some folks out at the party.

by Anonymousreply 131February 4, 2020 3:38 AM

[quote]A large segment of voters live in that part of the country, and that elitist attitude is what cost us the election last time, so drop it!

Elitists? Please, stop using Republcvian talking points. People on the West and East coast vastly outnumber those in the Midwest. That dose not make they all elitists, that makes them half of America. Just as entitled to be pandered to as the Midwest.

by Anonymousreply 132February 4, 2020 3:38 AM

Biden looked deflated. Hard to miss that look of defeat. Kept staring down at his notes. No energy.

by Anonymousreply 163February 4, 2020 3:47 AM

[quote] Aren't caucuses where you stand next to people to vote and then people count people and write the number down on paper? They fucked up counting.

That is just the first round, then they have to figure out which candidates are not viable, the voters for those candidates then either go home or caucus with another candidate, then they count those numbers then use a formula to divide up how many delegates go to each candidate for that caucus. Then those numbers get reported to headquarters.

by Anonymousreply 164February 4, 2020 3:47 AM

Reasons for delay of Iowa Caucus results

-Not enough personnel to take calls and tally

-Inconsistency in reporting of three separate results

-App crashes

-Hacking

Then, after pressuring Sanders’ campaign to not declare victory too soon, I.e. no speech, they trot out Amy and Joe to give speeches. These fucking people.

by Anonymousreply 165February 4, 2020 3:47 AM

I’m so glad I live on west coast time.

It’s near 1:00 am there, and the candidates have to be on the trail early tomorrow.

I think a lot of what has happened up until now is theory instead of practice. So how do these candidates do traveling from state to state, eating fried twinkies at the state fair, staying up night after night, shaking hands with people with the flu, and making speeches until they lose their voices? My money is on some of these seventy-somethings not being able to keep up the pace.

This might turn out to be a big game of Survivor, with the older and weaker ones not being able to keep up.

Sick and ti-yud!

by Anonymousreply 168February 4, 2020 3:48 AM

Wow, first time I've liked Bernie. Testify, brother!

by Anonymousreply 169February 4, 2020 3:48 AM

Can you believe Bernie had his wife and kid on welfare and testifying on the stand for better quality welfare to a judge!!? He's a crackpot dinosaur with broken ideas.

by Anonymousreply 170February 4, 2020 3:48 AM

CNN and MSNBC playing Bernie’s speech and not cutting him off like CNN did to Warren.

Did MSNBC even play any of Warren’s speech?

by Anonymousreply 171February 4, 2020 3:48 AM

#Be Better

by Anonymousreply 172February 4, 2020 3:48 AM

Isn't in funny the same people who keep throwing shade at Biden for his age are backing the other old man who actually had a heart attack?

How much does the market drop tomorrow? 200 points? 500?

by Anonymousreply 174February 4, 2020 3:49 AM

R154, that looks way more complicated than it needs to be. Iowa's whole caucus system is weird.

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump

Big WIN for us in Iowa tonight. Thank you!

by Anonymousreply 176February 4, 2020 3:50 AM

Now Bernie’s on to CLIMATE CHANGE.

by Anonymousreply 177February 4, 2020 3:50 AM

I would like Bernie more if it wasn't for his cultish and overbearingly unpleasant supporters.

by Anonymousreply 178February 4, 2020 3:50 AM

Bernie: Free stuff. Free stuff. Wealthy bad.

Perverted game of Duck, Duck, Goose.

by Anonymousreply 179February 4, 2020 3:50 AM

ya know what, ain't that upset. Iowa is a pain in the ass. New Hampshire is a pain in the ass. We'll get through these damn stupid things and then South Carolina where there are actually significant Democratic voters, and then we will see. We're good. Embarrassed though. Shit, and seriously, is this really Robert Mook, cause if so, stop!

by Anonymousreply 180February 4, 2020 3:50 AM

Will no one comment on Jane’s cute son-in-law?

by Anonymousreply 181February 4, 2020 3:51 AM

Bernie has been the most inspiring speaker so far, by light years.

He is electric and I believe he could absolutely shred plump in a debate and election. This is the first time I’ve heard him speak in a while.

He is the most clear and effective messenger of the lot. Democrats are luck because all these candidates are good choices.

by Anonymousreply 182February 4, 2020 3:51 AM

[quote]I am surprised MSNBC hasn’t played Warren.

dont nobody want to hear that old bitch this late at night

by Anonymousreply 183February 4, 2020 3:52 AM

R171, not yet. Relegating the woman again.

by Anonymousreply 184February 4, 2020 3:52 AM

I hate that Bernie pronounces human rights as "you-man rights" instead of "hugh-man rights".

He also says shtraight instead of straight and shtreet instead of street.

So for that reason, it's a no from me.

by Anonymousreply 185February 4, 2020 3:52 AM

Bernie is the only one who speaks from the heart.

by Anonymousreply 186February 4, 2020 3:52 AM

just out of curiosity r182, did you think that before Bernie ever actually uttered a word?

by Anonymousreply 187February 4, 2020 3:53 AM

Bernie has more hair than usual.

by Anonymousreply 188February 4, 2020 3:53 AM

This could be a good thing, if it wakes up the Dems to the very real prospect of general election malfeasance.

by Anonymousreply 189February 4, 2020 3:53 AM

It’s time to wrap it up, Bernie.

by Anonymousreply 190February 4, 2020 3:53 AM

So much for the Bernie camp narrative that MSNBC favors Elizabeth Warren over him. Her speech has been completely bypassed for his.

by Anonymousreply 191February 4, 2020 3:53 AM

Now it’s The CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM and IMMIGRATION REFORM and REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS and... the MILITARY INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX and... he’s going down the whole laundry list.

by Anonymousreply 192February 4, 2020 3:53 AM

And more good news for Pete! Ben Halle @bhalle87 9m UPDATE: @PeteButtigieg won West Des Moines precinct 115. This is a rare flip from Romney to Clinton. Pete is winning in pivot counties and counties that are becoming more blue. #IACaucus

Just in: Biden’s lawyers are writing a letter to the Dem party questioning the results.

by Anonymousreply 201February 4, 2020 3:57 AM

oh come on, nobody thinks Amy came in first. Don't be ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 202February 4, 2020 3:57 AM

I wouldn’t be surprised if Bernie dies before November.

by Anonymousreply 203February 4, 2020 3:58 AM

and DEMANDING that they get to know the primary results before the public.

Fuck that.

by Anonymousreply 204February 4, 2020 3:58 AM

Sanders co-chair Nina Turner says that Sanders will come back out and speak again if the results come in tonight.

by Anonymousreply 205February 4, 2020 3:58 AM

If I had to choose between the three I'd hope Pete gets the nomination, but I'm fine with Bernie as long as he has a damn good team behind him. The man won't last long so he needs to have things in order and a fit VP ready to usurp him when he kicks the bucket a year into his presidency.

If his puppeteers are all AOC types we're fucked once he wins. Washington will be in even more chaos.

by Anonymousreply 206February 4, 2020 3:58 AM

R202, in speech quality, IMHO.

by Anonymousreply 207February 4, 2020 3:58 AM

He's fine, he sends his love r200. He actually looks really healthy. Old, but very healthy.

by Anonymousreply 208February 4, 2020 3:59 AM

Then Biden and his lawyers are idiots because there are no fucking results yet to question.

by Anonymousreply 209February 4, 2020 3:59 AM

It would be fucking hilarious if Bernie were to get the nomination and then die before November.

by Anonymousreply 210February 4, 2020 3:59 AM

I told ya! This glitch works for Biden. He'd better listen and exploit this save that was given to him

by Anonymousreply 211February 4, 2020 3:59 AM

r202 That poster was ranking speeches...

by Anonymousreply 212February 4, 2020 3:59 AM

Did they skip Pete’s speech?

by Anonymousreply 213February 4, 2020 3:59 AM

r165 you know nothing. Amy and Biden and Bernie don't need permission to speak, it's an internal campaign decision. On a night like this if they get in front of a microphone the News will cover their speech. Bernie and Pete need the validation of a win so they are keeping their asses quiet. Bernie might get upset by Pete or Pete might come close so there is no reason to move forward. Biden has been embarrassed with reports of multiple precincts where he wasn't viable. It sounds like only Bernie and Pete have been viable throughout the night. Hopefully both of them go away once Super Tuesday knocks some sense into these crazy campaigns. A gay man or a socialist against a united Republican Party with record low unemployment and a healthy market? Get the hell out of here with that nonsense!

by Anonymousreply 214February 4, 2020 3:59 AM

It’s just been since like 2016 when I last heard him do a barn burnerlike that. . And he seemsyounger And more vibrant than 4 years ago for some reason. He really let it rip. I like where he stands.

by Anonymousreply 215February 4, 2020 4:00 AM

Pete also was leading the precinct in the gym of Drake University in Des Moines. Beating Bernie.

by Anonymousreply 216February 4, 2020 4:00 AM

why did the DNC makes this so confusing? Just make it like a regular primary and proportion out the delegates based on the votes

by Anonymousreply 217February 4, 2020 4:01 AM

we need actual results. they are not forthcoming. this is a problem.

by Anonymousreply 218February 4, 2020 4:02 AM

While they wait for Pete's speech, they should be showing Elizabeth's. What gives?!

by Anonymousreply 219February 4, 2020 4:03 AM

It is shocking that MSNBC hasn’t played Warren. They must think Pete is imminent.

by Anonymousreply 220February 4, 2020 4:03 AM

r217 Because the IDP decides if it's going to be a caucus or a primary, not the DNC.

If you're talking about a national primary, that wouldn't work because you could get a winner who only got a 20% of the total vote or some weird result like that. Obviously that person can't end up being the nominee.

by Anonymousreply 221February 4, 2020 4:03 AM

The fix is in.

by Anonymousreply 222February 4, 2020 4:04 AM

by Anonymousreply 234February 4, 2020 4:07 AM

r217 we need to clarify it was the Iowa DNC that messed this up. They know that getting dusty old campaign workers to use an App is a disaster. I've run door knocking canvassing, the Apps scare the hell out of people over 60. If someone needs to put on their glasses to read a text on their phone, then they are likely not someone you want to use an app before a national election. Then to have said app crash and no backup call centers. The Iowa Democratic Chair should resign by the end of the week.

When the people who had been going for non-viable candidates realigned, Buttigieg had the biggest jump in supporters (went up by 26 people, where Warren went up 7 and Sanders went up 5).

Biden is the big winner tonight, everyone else got fucked by the IDP. Pete and Bernie needed this win to create momentum and now it's going to get stomped on by the SOTU and impeachment.

I hate to be cynical, but it does seem like a bit too craven and obvious to have him standing in front of a line of black women when everyone knows that's the demographic he is struggling the most with and has the most ground to make up. Optics doesn't equal action.

by Anonymousreply 332February 4, 2020 4:33 AM

Pete’s row of Black wimmins waving tiny flags is hilarious.

by Anonymousreply 333February 4, 2020 4:34 AM

Robby Mook denies having anything to do with the app or its alleged failure tonight.

[quote] It’s not clear what the problems might be (at the Iowa caucus), but one thing is known. People are upset with Robbie Mook, Hillary Clinton’s former campaign manager.

[quote] However, in a statement, the Iowa Democratic Party said the delays were a result of the reporting inconsistencies and not the app.“ The app did not go down,” said IDP Communications Director Mandy McClure.

[quote] But Mook, who received outsized ignominy for being behind Hillary Clinton’s failed 2016 strategy, worked with the team who made the app, according to the Des Moines Register, focusing on dealing with misinformation.

[quote] In a tweet, after people were repeatedly tagging him on Twitter, Mook said he had nothing to do with the app. “Sorry, folks. I did NOT have anything to do with building the Iowa caucus app. I dont know anything about it, had no role in it, and dont own a company that makes mobile appa. Please contact @iowademocrats with questions about it,” he wrote.

[quote] While reporters have said Mook had nothing specifically to do with the app, he was nonetheless getting savaged by people online for the delay.

Final speech rankings— Amy>Bernie>Pete>Biden>Warren

Pete is very Obama-like per usual. Great performance; however, long winded, somewhat too polished, and overinflated sense of self.

I can see why Pete drives Amy, Reid, Warren and Maddow crazy. He’s too well-packaged and under-credentialed. He’s the natural result of electing lightweights*—Obama and Trump. Lowering the experience bar will come back to bite everyone eventually.

Pete’s my candidate, BTW.

* Before 2008, Obama’s experience for presidential consideration was too light. It worked out wonderfully in the Obama case, but gave us Trump.

Love him. Like Macron, he’s a young and shameless striver with the intelligence and temperament to do this job.

by Anonymousreply 384February 4, 2020 4:48 AM

My expectation: Pete needed a win, he so far doesn't have a clear win from their internals but its so close that if he actually won, he gets to say his speech and wring as much as he now can from it, and if he didn't win, the campaign can say 'oh guess we made a small mistake'. Iowa is crucial enough for him that it'd be cynically justified to get as much from this night as possible.

Regardless, if he got a 2nd place, that's still something he may be able to work with. And softly announcing a win should set a fire under the DNC to get taht data out. I think its slimy, but I think everything of Pete is slightly slimy anyway, sue me.

by Anonymousreply 385February 4, 2020 4:48 AM

by Anonymousreply 404February 4, 2020 4:53 AM

As an amusing aside, I just watched a clip from a woman who does political tarot card throws. Earlier today she pulled a spread on how Biden would do, and by the time she was finished she looked at the camera exclaiming "Oh my gosh, it looks like he's going to be dropping out in the near future!"

Either she skipped Pete, or I missed it, but she did spend quite a while gushing about how well Amy was doing and similar with Elizabeth Warren, although the latter's cards weren't quite so rosy.

by Anonymousreply 406February 4, 2020 4:53 AM

by Anonymousreply 420February 4, 2020 4:58 AM

Yes, a win, but not a CLEAR win, i.e. sweeping the state. That's impossible with so many candidates.

[quote]because his campaign is nowhere to be found other than Iowa and New Hampshire so momentum was very important in his campaign strategy, that's clearly not happening because America has gone to bed even if he wins.

For the love of god, that's been his campaign strategy from the start. A no-name mayor from Indiana can't run a national campaign, what part of that do you not understand? Carter and Obama were both successful using the exact same slingshot strategy. Beto, Booker, Castro... were all banking on it as well. If you think it'll all fall apart because he delivered his speech late, you are sadly mistaken.

by Anonymousreply 421February 4, 2020 4:59 AM

So did Biden supporters go to Buttigieg because they didn't fear him stealing away the nomination?

by Anonymousreply 460February 4, 2020 5:23 AM

r456 Yes, debate is this Friday.

by Anonymousreply 461February 4, 2020 5:23 AM

The Democratic Party should strong-arm Iowa, and tell them that if they insist on having their weird, cluster-fuck "caucus", they have to do it in June behind everyone else. Otherwise they need to convert to a simple Primary vote system.

The Iowa caucus seems like something designed by (The Office's) Dwight Schurte and held on his beet farm, where votes are tallied with geese eggs and counted by Michael Scott. Just cut it out, Iowa.

by Anonymousreply 462February 4, 2020 5:23 AM

[quote]for declaring victory with no results

Except he has results because he had a precinct captain in every precinct. Unlike the other campaigns.

by Anonymousreply 463February 4, 2020 5:24 AM

R459, They would drag him for breathing. Who cares? Twitter just hasn't got as much influence as they'd like.

by Anonymousreply 464February 4, 2020 5:24 AM

Delegates:

1. Buttigieg (31.22%%) (59)

2. Sanders (22.22%) (42)

3. Warren (19.05%) (36)

4. Biden (17.46%) (33)

5. Klobuchar (9.52%) (18)

by Anonymousreply 465February 4, 2020 5:26 AM

[quote]These conspiracy theories are killing me. The Iowa caucus is run by old white volunteers--what's more likely, that they rigged the entire primary or they had trouble with an app?

by Anonymousreply 466February 4, 2020 5:26 AM

R464 Very true, just reporting what I'm seeing.

[quote] Pete's getting dragged on Twitter, especially Black Twitter

African-Americans have indicated that he is the one candidate they don’t want, so if he’s the nominee, it’s going to be a slap in the face.

by Anonymousreply 468February 4, 2020 5:26 AM

Considering campaigns usually have internal polling, I would think most of not all of the candidates know who won by now, it’s just not official.

by Anonymousreply 469February 4, 2020 5:27 AM

Black Twitter is demanding the DNC promise a "state of color" go first next time... OR ELSE!

by Anonymousreply 470February 4, 2020 5:27 AM

R462, obama never would have been the president that way. But ok. Change it around because it chose a candidate that you dont like. Whiny ass baby.

by Anonymousreply 471February 4, 2020 5:27 AM

If this went badly, I dread Nevada’s caucus, which could end up in the same mess.

I hate caucuses.

by Anonymousreply 472February 4, 2020 5:28 AM

[quote]African-Americans have indicated that he is the one candidate they don’t want

*Some* African-Americans *on Twitter* have indicated that. And don't you see how homophobic it is, singling him out as the only candidate they don't want?!

by Anonymousreply 473February 4, 2020 5:28 AM

R470, the color they’re thinking of is a red state with a low Democratic population, but a high black population, probably in the South. Which would be useless in the general.

by Anonymousreply 474February 4, 2020 5:30 AM

[quote] Buttigieg (31.22%%) (59)

Buttigieg may become known for being the candidate whose outcome finally forced the DNC to select a different, less overwhelmingly white, state to be first.

by Anonymousreply 475February 4, 2020 5:30 AM

If South Carolina - apparently the seat of blackdom in America according to some - voted first in 2008, Hillary would have been elected president. Food for thought...

by Anonymousreply 476February 4, 2020 5:30 AM

R470, the criticism is fair. I like Chris Matthews’ idea of starting with California—significant in size and diversity. I also like a round robin similar to the old Bowl Champion Series.

by Anonymousreply 477February 4, 2020 5:30 AM

[quote]Buttigieg may become known for being the candidate whose outcome finally forced the DNC to select a different, less overwhelmingly white, state to be first.

We need to swing PA, Michigan and Wisconsin in November. It'll be white people who decide this election. Stop being so obtuse. And stop using black people as a cudgel against the first gay candidate, for fuck sake.

by Anonymousreply 478February 4, 2020 5:32 AM

The problem is Iowa and New Hampshire will move up if any other state tries to take over the first position. After this i'd say people have had it with them.

by Anonymousreply 479February 4, 2020 5:33 AM

R476 Fuck South Carolina, deplorable land that always goes to Republicans every election

by Anonymousreply 480February 4, 2020 5:33 AM

The warren supporter tears taste so good. I can't wait to see it all over again next Tuesday when she once again comes in third place!

by Anonymousreply 481February 4, 2020 5:34 AM

[quote]I like Chris Matthews’ idea of starting with California

That is RIDICULOUS. Only someone with a huge Name ID like Bernie or Biden and a billionaire like Bloomberg would be competitive in California. It would be a race to who can buy the most ads the fastest, nothing more. I swear to god the costals live in another reality...

by Anonymousreply 482February 4, 2020 5:34 AM

The problem with those deep southern states is 90% of white people vote repug and 90% of blacks vote democratic so the election results are always the same.

by Anonymousreply 483February 4, 2020 5:35 AM

I swear people on twitter are so fucking stupid. All of the candidates are white so why does it selecting Pete prove it's too white? They only have white people to choose from. I have had it with that homophobic shithole.

by Anonymousreply 484February 4, 2020 5:35 AM

How do these people on CNN keep a straight face while giving us the same bullshit excuses?

by Anonymousreply 485February 4, 2020 5:36 AM

[quote]The problem is Iowa and New Hampshire will move up if any other state tries to take over the first position.

Yes, Iowa has a law on the books that it has to be first, and New Hampshire would need to change its constitution, which currently states it has to be the first primary in the nation. I'm sure SC would adjudicate that if there was a clash with another state...

by Anonymousreply 486February 4, 2020 5:36 AM

r484 They hate pete because he's not woke

by Anonymousreply 487February 4, 2020 5:37 AM

R476, you act like that would have been a bad thing. Between McCain-Feingold shifting Congress from pork-based negotiation to ideological-based gridlock and the racist, homophobic backlash to Obama, we got Trump. Hillary would have been a great incrementalism leaded and Obama should be running for re-election now.

by Anonymousreply 488February 4, 2020 5:38 AM

[quote]you act like that would have been a bad thing

r488 No, I was addressing the people want a majority black state to go first. Well, guess what? Black people in SC didn't rally behind Obama... until he won Iowa.

by Anonymousreply 490February 4, 2020 5:40 AM

Poll Troll have you looked at the google doc since you posted R465? The numbers on it have changed multiple times I've refreshed it since that post.

by Anonymousreply 491February 4, 2020 5:41 AM

r486

The party could simply choose not to count votes. They should run the biggest states first.

This is stupid, what people think, I don't know who to vote for until I see who's winning?

by Anonymousreply 492February 4, 2020 5:42 AM

R482, California is like 6 states (and in the long-game should likely become 6 states to provide electoral fairness). Candidates would be on the ground for a year having the opportunity to build diverse coalitions across a wide array of industries tech, entertainment, agribusiness and groups (gays, POCs, ages, etc.).

by Anonymousreply 493February 4, 2020 5:42 AM

The Donald has a very small caucus.

by Anonymousreply 494February 4, 2020 5:42 AM

Interesting tidbit R463.

by Anonymousreply 495February 4, 2020 5:43 AM

Obama won because Oprah said to vote for him. Without Oprah he would not have even run. He didn't do anything for Illinois. Even his co-Senator, a Democrat said all Obama did as Senator was to run for President.

by Anonymousreply 496February 4, 2020 5:43 AM

r483

That isn't even close to being true. If you are going to make things up make them believable.

by Anonymousreply 497February 4, 2020 5:44 AM

[quote]This is stupid, what people think, I don't know who to vote for until I see who's winning?

That... is literally what most people will tell you if you're canvassing right now in Nevada and South Carolina. "It's too early, come back to me when someone has won a state or two." People are like that. They like backing a winner and not all of them are super political.

by Anonymousreply 498February 4, 2020 5:45 AM

r497 Oh really, where was the lie exactly?

by Anonymousreply 499February 4, 2020 5:46 AM

Yes, R491.

Sanders appears to have moved ahead of Pete in Final Allocation, but Pete was still ahead in Delegates last time I looked.

We'll probably see more changes until we get the final numbers from the DNC, but it's a start.

by Anonymousreply 500February 4, 2020 5:47 AM

Sanders now leads in final allocation and delegates.

by Anonymousreply 501February 4, 2020 5:48 AM

NEWS: A campaign aide says that the IDP will release results today. They are hand checking results, according to a person on the call. The IDP plans to release a statement soon.

by Anonymousreply 502February 4, 2020 5:48 AM

R492, that’s exactly what they do. They vote for the winner.

The big problem with running big states first is that if a candidate implodes on the trail, they’ve already got the California delegates under their belt and they can’t be taken away. So what do you do if someone wins California and then we find out he’s a rapist, or he dies on the trail? No one can win those votes because they’re taken by a guy who hasn’t got a chance in hell of winning.

The current results don’t look accurate. According to that there are very few moderates in Iowa, which doesn’t seem possible.

by Anonymousreply 507February 4, 2020 5:52 AM

Gays really have to get it through their heads that the Left hates them. They hate them the same way the Right hates them. The Left now hates gays, whites, and Jews with a passion.

by Anonymousreply 508February 4, 2020 5:53 AM

Thanks R500. I think I misunderstood where it said "final allocation" above I was thinking that was the final results.

by Anonymousreply 509February 4, 2020 5:53 AM

[quote]Sanders now leads in final allocation and delegates.

That makes sense.

Sanders may finish 1st (which would be in line with expectations), Pete 2nd, Warren 3rd, Biden 4th & Klobuchar 5th.

by Anonymousreply 510February 4, 2020 5:54 AM

R508 Sure, troll.

by Anonymousreply 511February 4, 2020 5:55 AM

by Anonymousreply 512February 4, 2020 5:56 AM

The Iowa Democratic Party is holding a press call in five minutes. No results expected until after sunrise.

by Anonymousreply 513February 4, 2020 5:57 AM

Looks like Warren has pulled ahead of Pete now.

by Anonymousreply 514February 4, 2020 5:58 AM

Yeah, kinda unfortunate for Pete... he likely won the absolute vote and came in second in delegates. And no one knows, no great media message...

by Anonymousreply 515February 4, 2020 5:59 AM

Really, r514? Awesome news if true.

by Anonymousreply 516February 4, 2020 6:00 AM

[quote]I think I misunderstood where it said "final allocation" above I was thinking that was the final results.

Final allocation means the numbers after the 1st round of voting has been completed and then the reallocated numbers for candidates who pick up more votes from the candidates who didn't meet the 15% threshold for qualification.

Once all 1,700 precincts have reported their final allocations, the overall final numbers will be known. Until then they will keep being updated.

by Anonymousreply 517February 4, 2020 6:02 AM

I think Pete fucked up tonight, he embarrassed himself.

by Anonymousreply 518February 4, 2020 6:02 AM

r516 No, it's not true. It's just partial crowdsourced results. We have to wait for the official ones.

by Anonymousreply 519February 4, 2020 6:02 AM

r518 We'll see in a couple of hours.

by Anonymousreply 520February 4, 2020 6:03 AM

Another call with the campaigns by the IDP happening now.

by Anonymousreply 521February 4, 2020 6:03 AM

Yes, as R519 says, these aren't the official DNC numbers but they give an indication of what the order of candidates will probably be.

These numbers are coming in from all the numbers crunchers from the precincts that have reported in Iowa throughout the night and collated together in the Taniel spreadsheet.

by Anonymousreply 522February 4, 2020 6:05 AM

by Anonymousreply 525February 4, 2020 6:05 AM

Pete's team is a genius for waiting until the end. As someone said upthread, all the headlines say that Pete has declared victory even if he hasn't won. It will be the first thing everyone reads when they wake up. This mess is so confusing that Pete left the night with something clear and concrete. I am so proud of him and have always thought that his team is always 10 steps ahead. Pete is extremely calculating in the best way possible. The end of the night is all about him. He had the final word.

I do not understand the hate for Pete. Gays hate seeing other gays have success, they always have. Hopefully that will change in the future. Pete is making history.

by Anonymousreply 526February 4, 2020 6:06 AM

by Anonymousreply 527February 4, 2020 6:06 AM

How did he embarrass himself R518?

by Anonymousreply 528February 4, 2020 6:07 AM

r528 He declared his campaign "victorious." Which some are interpreting as meaning he said they had won (the most delegates). We'll see in a couple of hours if that's the case.

by Anonymousreply 591February 4, 2020 8:13 AM

r590 Yeah, at the end of the day, it really is just a technical glitch in the reporting app. The paper trail remains intact. As long as New Hampshire wakes up to a clear delegate winner, it'll all be fine. I'm just sad that the Iowa winner - whoever it ends up being - was robbed of their proper victory speech.

by Anonymousreply 592February 4, 2020 8:15 AM

r591 The caucus actually worked fine, much as I hate to admit it. It's the reporting app, forced onto Iowans by those rule changes in 2016, that is to blame. And Nevada is using the same supplier, so that should be fun...
