Cute jock commits suicide by jumping off the Vessel in Hudson Yards
Didn't someone call the Vessel "a suicide apparatus" in a thread about its opening? Well...
[quote]The suicide jumper at the Vessel in Manhattan’s Hudson Yards was a former high-school rugby star and “tough kid, not afraid of anything,’’ his ex-coach told The Post on Sunday. “He is seemingly the most unlikely of cases for suicide,’’ Simon Perry said of Peter DeSalvo, 19, a Sacred Heart University freshman from Basking Ridge, NJ, who leaped to his death from the artistic new landmark around 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
[quote]A law-enforcement source said that according to video and witnesses at the tourist-mobbed site, the teen was by himself when he “got on a railing and jumped off from the sixth floor” of the West 33rd Street structure, also known as “The Hive” because of its beehive-like appearance.
[quote]“He didn’t say anything to anybody,’’ the source said of DeSalvo. The source added that the teen’s family has no idea why he killed himself and that he had no note on him.

Sounds like it may have been accidental.
Regardless....
It's always a tragedy when the hawt ones die.

Drugs?
Also, why does his uniform in OP's pic say "Red Devils", but the uniform is actually dark green? Does that make sense to anyone?

Super sad. I am, however surprised that this is the first jump from this Star Trek-looking suicide apparatus. It just beckons for jumps.

This is so sad. Because he was cute.
Otherwise, whatever.

It really is an awesome structure. It would be awful if they have to put up fences everywhere

Will the city put up fences to keep people from jumping? Will they install nets to catch jumpers?

Poor guy. Sometimes I think suicide is the only rational response to this shitty world and only the most clear-eyed and uncompromising have the nerve to do it. The rest of us just grow old and die in our own shit.

I suppose a suicide is beyond the point of reason, but if they stopped to think that it isn't just them, there are a lot of people usually tethered to them and they go down too.

Perhaps since climbing the Vessel is the perfect example of the pointlessness of modern life - wait in a long line, struggle up a bunch of staircases for an IG pic. Surprised more don’t jump. Can we finally get rid of this thing?

The coroners aren’t testing blood for Hiv

I’m not a medical examiner, but I’ve seen autopsy reports. Also, think about Andrew Cunanan as one famous example. They expressly ruled out he was HIV+.
On that celebrity autopsy show the doctor often says if there’s rumors floating around, such as Patrick Swaze, that his blood tested negative for HIV.
I believe in a case of “natural” or “expected” death they wouldn’t, but in something that could be litigated, or a crime, I think they routinely test for everything.
