The mansion, in the booming suburb of Katy about an hour west of downtown Houston, is up for sale for $750,000. It has four bedrooms and sits on two acres of land.

It's been updated. The original was very dark and brown inside. It's a typical boring ranch-style house. Some of the are surprisingly huge inside though.

No, thanks. Looks like a one-story ranch version of my parents' old house, and the houses of my siblings, only with a big ass Texas bathroom and a couple of Texas touches (tray ceilings, bows on the back of chairs, wood floors run up the walls for no good reason.) Even my family had better furniture, never mind the "art."

A. It's not a "mansion".
B. It looks like a typical Texas ranch-style house. You can find any number of houses like this in every big city, suburb or small backwoods rural town.

It's very typical of suburban houses built in the 50s and 60s. When you can find a good quality ranch house from that period it's usually a good buy if it's been well cared for as they were more often than not built like forts, even the inexpensive ones. They knew how to build things in those days. Plaster walls, not cheap dry wall. Hard wood floors, & solid core doors inside and out.

The only way Katy is 1 hour from downtown Houston is during the middle of the evening rush hour.

Interesting - she grew up in Katy? Such a mediocre, middlebrow suburb - of Houston when it was smaller. How did she get so weird?
