Not the movie. How often are you supposed to do it. I've been a one a day person my whole life. Been looking into products for thinning hair this weekend and a few times I have read to use shampoo only every 2-3 days but condition every day. Feels like my hair would be a greasy matted mess. Your experience?
Shampoo

I wash my hair once every other day because I keep my hair short if not entirely buzzed and shampooing too much thins your hair and increases the speed of balding.

I think it depends on your hair and your cut! As I have aged, I find that shampooing more than every 4-5 days dries out my hair. I do condition more often than that, probably every other day. If you are using a product that is suited to your hair, it will not make your hair greasy and matted! Generally speaking, shampooing is something to be done to clean your scalp. Conditioner is for your hair.

If you have either fine, thinning, or oily hair do NOT skip a shampoo. The shampoo less technique only works on people with very thick or very dry hair.
In fact, skipping shampoo will cause thinning hair more problems as it leads to build up on the scalp which can clog the pores on the scalp and cause hair breakage. If you have thinning hair look at ingredients that are slightly astringent like peppermint , do not use a shampoo that is chock full of heavy plant oils (olive, coconut, etc). Do not believe the idea that your hair will adjust to less shampooing, it won't. Redken brews for men, peppermint shampoo is a good clarifying and astringent shampoo. You should use both clarifying and volumising.

Over shampooing strips out the natural oils hence conditioner to provide artificial oils to the hair. every three days is more than enough. It may take a week or two for your scalp to rebalance

Conditioner is a con. Does nothing you need done.

Every three days / four days I use shampoo. Unless I've gone swimming in a pool, then I'll shampoo later that day.

I am a woman. Getting that out up front lol. Anyway my hair was very oily until my late 30s. I went to beauty school just to try to find answers on how to dry it out. Nothing worked but shampoo every day with cheap shampoo and no conditioner.

if what you are using works, then why change anything?
meaning: your scalp feels fine, your hair feels fine and you don't have dandruff or split ends.
seriously, don't fuck it up if it ain't broke.

Every day when I was in my teens. After 30, every two days. After 45, every three-four days. Unfortunately, the more time between washings the more hair I lose with the wash.

Lather.
Rinse.
Repeat.

OP, many people confuse limp, moist hair with "greasy." I did 2 years of "no 'poo" and my experience was that genuine oil buildup makes hair stiffer, although that may have also been due to our extremely hard water. Soft water leaves hair limper.
I have fine, non-porous hair and only wash it every 2-3 days, but I avoid the lank look by only conditioning the ends- not every day, just after shampooing.
