Reminds me of the Pet Shop Boys.
Dua Lipa's new song Physical - straight out of the 1980s

She should be more Latin- and add some edgy guest rappers.

I liked her early singles - New Rules and Blow Your Mind. This sounds uninspired and boring. I wouldn’t even call it Pet Shop Boyish. More like Pet Shop Borish.

Worst cover ever

I actually really like this song. Plus, the video is super fun, colourful, and VERY inclusive.

Her new album dropped today, a week early because it leaked last week. Easy contender for album of the year!

OK song, nice video. Get more of a Katy Perry vibe from the song, not so much Pet Shop Boys.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | March 27, 2020 3:14 PM |
Sounds like she's expanded her vocal range to 4 notes beyond the standard 3 with this song. Good for her!
by Anonymous | reply 7 | March 27, 2020 3:21 PM |
Very catchy and fun song and she looks kinda creepily like Ivanka here. The music video could have been directed by Dario Argento when he was still able to churn out good, colorful horror.

This is the first song of hers that I've heard (I gave up on radio years ago).
I watched the video but couldn't find a single same sex couple dancing.
I presume she is gay friendly so where are the receipts?
by Anonymous | reply 9 | March 27, 2020 6:46 PM |
Her new album is really fun - listening to it now.

I'm sick of seeing Dua Lipa and Doja Cat everywhere. I blocked them on Twitter and I'm blocking this thread!
by Anonymous | reply 11 | April 3, 2020 2:50 AM |
Yeah, her voice isn't exciting. She's ungainly and her eyes are dead. The mega money art direction doesn't make up for it.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | April 3, 2020 2:55 AM |
She's incredibly basic but some of her songs are so catchy .. I can't help it
by Anonymous | reply 13 | April 3, 2020 3:09 AM |
I love it.

R5 Are you trolling? A generic teen pop album is an easy contender for the album of the year?

Tranny
by Anonymous | reply 16 | April 3, 2020 8:05 AM |
I like this one best from the new album, especially the sample of 90s one-hit-wonder "Your Woman"
Girl has a nice touch - this album will be huge this summer.

I like the video but the song doesn't really appeal to me. New Rule is catchy though.

She has the face of a whore and the voice of a skank.

Pussy Lipa

It's a brilliant album.

R21 - Dua herself.

Are we having a summer this year? I absolutely love this album and it’s the only thing getting me through this FUCKING PANDEMIC.

Great video for those of us who like her. Definite disco vibes with the live band.

Dave Holmes?

She is dating Anwar Hadid, ugly rich brother to ugly rich Bella Hadid. And for that reason alone, it's a no from me dawg.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | April 13, 2020 4:42 AM |
Dave Holmes as in TRL?? Ha. Think I had a low key subconscious crush on him back in the day.

You say "Pet Shop Boys" just because they were a synth-heavy, danceable '80s band.
I would call Lipa's "Physical" merely "synthwave" or '80s "retrowave," which is an increasingly tired bandwagon Lipa is jumping on. What's worse, she's retaining the twee, chipmunk-voice sound effects that plagues Millennial music.
Just give me the raw retrowave. It sounds better than Millennial shit E.D.M.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | April 13, 2020 5:07 AM |
I know '80s Retrowave is only familiar to most Americans since KUNG FURY and STRANGER THINGS.
But Europeans have been doing it since the mid-aughts! Once you realize that Goldfrapp channeled Olivia Newton-John's "Physical" way back in 2010, you can see how tired and derivative Dua Lipa looks now.
A much better song and video:

That song @ r24 is cool, though.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | April 13, 2020 5:16 AM |
Yeah, R30. But Dua Lipa’s hot.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | April 13, 2020 5:25 AM |
The neon-pink triangle with '80s graphics is getting pretty tired, too.
Lady Gaga stole it from Goldfrapp and Jennifer Juniper Stratford. AMERICAN HORROR STORY stole it from them. Enough, already!
by Anonymous | reply 33 | April 13, 2020 5:27 AM |
They all stole it from JEM!
by Anonymous | reply 34 | April 13, 2020 5:28 AM |
Right, but I'm talking about the retro-trend.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | April 13, 2020 5:30 AM |
She fucking sucks!
by Anonymous | reply 36 | April 13, 2020 5:30 AM |
Her label found the most monotone stiff bore ever to give these disco dance songs to! They should have found someone with a pulse to sell them better.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | April 13, 2020 5:32 AM |
R30 not just dua Lipa the equally overated “the weekend” , gag!!! Can’t wait for these flash in the pans to go away!
by Anonymous | reply 38 | April 13, 2020 5:34 AM |
The retro trend has been a thing since the 1990s - mostly 1960s and 1970s. The 1980s begain to creep in in the 2000s. Think Girls Aloud's "No Good Advice."
by Anonymous | reply 39 | April 13, 2020 5:34 AM |
R38 i like a few of his songs but the lyrics can be disturbing. There's something not right about that guy.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | April 13, 2020 5:58 AM |
I like her voice. She is Gaga-is without being as mannered and annoying as Gaga is. Her song is very catchy. And she has a look in her eye that makes you wonder what she's thinking. There actually seems to be a brain there, unlike many other pop songstresses.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | April 13, 2020 6:22 AM |
Is she a lesbian?
by Anonymous | reply 42 | April 13, 2020 6:36 AM |
R42 No she just dances like one.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | April 13, 2020 6:37 AM |
Does it really matter who sings anything these days? They all sound exactly the same- autotuned within an inch of their lives.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | April 13, 2020 6:46 AM |
Ooooh. Mr. Lipa!
by Anonymous | reply 46 | April 13, 2020 1:06 PM |
Dear r39,
We know. I was talking about the current '80s retrowave thing that's been happening since 2006 or so.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | April 14, 2020 11:24 PM |
And btw, r39, you left out important nostalgia waves way before the 1990s.
Such as the 1980s nostalgia for the '60s (THE DOORS) and the 1970s nostalgia for the '50s (HAPPY DAYS, GREASE).
