Do all James Franco's movies go straight-to-video now?

He's the new John Travolta.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 10205/24/2020

Straight??

by Anonymousreply 102/01/2020

he's full of shit

by Anonymousreply 202/01/2020

Grease, Saturday Night Fever, Pulp Fiction ... John Travolta is an icon of cinema, whether you like it or not. And it seems like those days are permanently over and we won't see anymore. Franco has never been in a classic/memorable movie in his life.

by Anonymousreply 305/18/2020

He got cancelled by Me Too and Times Up

by Anonymousreply 405/18/2020

Thinks he is an artist not an actor. Smokes way to much pot and made enough money he does not need to work again - not a whole lot of drive to be MORE famous.

by Anonymousreply 505/18/2020

Franco is toast. Didn't they actually end THE DEUCE (an entertaining little show) early because of him?

His output is kind of shocking: he has 150 credits on IMDB, many for projects I've never heard of. How many truly memorable films has he made? How many commercially successful films has he made? I'd guess that his own "art" projects will be the first to be forgotten.

by Anonymousreply 605/18/2020

I saw Jimmy Franco on Broadway in "Of Mice and Men." It was a very good and disciplined performance. He was also just perfect in "Milk" and hilarious in "The Pineapple Express." Have you read his novels? Not bad. And I really respect his admiration for Faulkner and has adapted a few of his difficult novels. But jealous people just want to tear him down. They cannot stand that someone can be so devastatingly handsome AND talented. Suffer.

by Anonymousreply 705/18/2020

Will Franco be remembered for KING COBRA?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 805/18/2020

It's no classic, but I loved him in Pineapple Express.

by Anonymousreply 905/18/2020

It was a combination of him making one shitty movie after another and him doing one sleazy and questionable thing after another (the teen on Instagram, the accusations from from some students his “acting school,” the meetup with Amber Heard). People also got sick of the gay baiting. Either come out or just STFU.

by Anonymousreply 1005/18/2020

I feel bad for him. He was on track to gain an Oscar nomination. I actually liked his movie and thought he really did deserve the nomination. I never believed the thirsty women who accused him of #metoo, but the damage has been done, while other actors who did #metoo are fine.

by Anonymousreply 1105/18/2020

He peaked on General Hospital.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 1205/18/2020

One can only hope.

by Anonymousreply 1305/18/2020

He always looks like he might have been a great fuck. But never at your own home. You want to see what there is to see and do what there is to do. But you need to be able to slip away quietly when it's done.

by Anonymousreply 1405/18/2020

r7, "Handsome" is subjective and to each his own, but you honestly think Franco is objectively "talented"? Seriously?

by Anonymousreply 1505/18/2020

Almost no one is objectively talented. Very, very few would fit that category, even in singing, where much of the physical attributes neede are inborn. But for actors? Oh, hell no.

by Anonymousreply 1605/18/2020

Yes. He’s over. No one wants to hire him because of complaints from women he harassed or assaulted. He also goes for teenagers.

His best films are Milk and 127 Hours? But he made more trash than Nicole Kidman, which is saying a lot.

by Anonymousreply 1705/18/2020

They should. He’s a despicable human being.

by Anonymousreply 1805/18/2020

He always looks like maybe he bathed yesterday, but definitely did not bathe today.

The rule is, baths to-morrow and baths yesterday – but never baths to-day.

by Anonymousreply 1905/18/2020

I just realized that the only thing I've ever seen him in was King Cobra. Weird, It feels like I've seen all his movies. He's overexposed and retreating from the limelight for a few years is probably good for him.

by Anonymousreply 2005/18/2020

Even Seth Rogen has said Franco has a greasy appearance. I bet he smells like ass and cigarettes.

by Anonymousreply 2105/18/2020

It was such a huge mistake for Garrett Clayton to make that film with Franco. TAINTED.

by Anonymousreply 2205/18/2020

r22 It wasn't a bad movie. I found it interesting. And Garret Clayton now has name recognition thanks to being "tainted" by Franco.

by Anonymousreply 2305/18/2020

Is he Italian?

by Anonymousreply 2405/18/2020

He is Portuguese, r24.

by Anonymousreply 2505/18/2020

Mixed ancestry--his mother is Jewish and his father was of Portuguese and Swedish descent.

by Anonymousreply 2605/18/2020

He's hot as fuck, and he made a number of gay-related non-commercial films while he was manically producing work.

Now we're supposed to hate him, but I don't at all. He's been adventurous ever since he could start choosing and producing his own projects while at the same time succeeding in the mainstream.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 2705/18/2020

I thought he was a hollywood fuck boi and big dope until I read that he has like three or more degrees and a phd. Then I started to understand him and respect him.

by Anonymousreply 2805/18/2020

Holy shit!!!! I just googled it and he has TEN college degrees!!!! WTF!!!!

by Anonymousreply 2905/18/2020

[quote]I just realized that the only thing I've ever seen him in was King Cobra. Weird, It feels like I've seen all his movies. He's overexposed and retreating from the limelight for a few years is probably good for him.

He doesn't have that luxury. He's in his 40s so no chance of him being allowed back and hitting it big. Not a good actor, hasn't been in anything memorable. Of course he's over.

by Anonymousreply 3005/18/2020

Another one of his issues is he tried to be a jack of all trades, but was really master of none except being an OK actor. Remember when he was doing “art” exhibits, recorded awful music, poetry, novels, directing, producing, photography, teaching, etc? It was all terrible. He should have just focused on maybe one or two things outside of acting and that’s it instead of being mediocre or terrible while doing multiple things.

I don’t even hear anyone mention him anymore. He used to be popular up until about 5 years ago.

by Anonymousreply 3105/18/2020

And the #metoo issues.

by Anonymousreply 3205/18/2020

[quote] But jealous people just want to tear him down.

Thank you for weighing in, 14-Year-Old Girl Stan.

by Anonymousreply 3305/18/2020

He's over: you can't be an enfant terrible any more in your forties. He was pretty much a con artist, trying to see how much he could get away with.

by Anonymousreply 3405/18/2020

The graduate program shenanigans were just that.... shenanigans. Ask his "classmates" from those programs at Columbia and NYU how often they actually saw him in attendance. (Franco received a D for poor attendance at at least one NYU class, and was photographed asleep at a Columbia lecture that he did deign to attend). How many of those programs did he actually complete?

What was more shocking to me was how these respected institutions signed on to be part of Franco's elaborate PR stunt, along side the General Hospital appearances, the gay-themed indie projects and gay-baiting that accompanied them, his infamous "hosting" of the Oscars, etc.

Franco's had a long run making headlines for himself as a sort of post-Warhol self-invented "superstar." Perhaps he should have focused more on making fewer and better movies.

And oh yes, on not sexually harrassing and exploiting people along the way.

by Anonymousreply 3505/18/2020

Not everyone wants to be a movie star. If that is what he wanted, he could have easily gone in that direction after James Dean. He chose not to. Some people just want to enjoy their lives. What I really want to know is how real is this pic? It's certainly realistic. I really do want to believe it.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 3605/18/2020

I would sit on that.

by Anonymousreply 3705/18/2020

That pic has already been debunked as fake. Someone put his face on an existing pic of someone else

by Anonymousreply 3805/18/2020

I kinda don't care, but I kinda do. Has he ever had gay sex. He loves to toy with it all the time, and then back off and say he would never actually have sex with another guy. Anyone on DL had him? Not friend of a friend, but you, personally, had him?

by Anonymousreply 3905/18/2020

He seems like the type to prank you by jerking off on your face while you're sleeping.

by Anonymousreply 4005/18/2020

LOL, r40.

by Anonymousreply 4105/18/2020

That'd be fine with me, R40.

by Anonymousreply 4205/18/2020

He doesn't smoke pot IRL, believe it or not.

by Anonymousreply 4305/18/2020

His eyelids have foreskins.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 4405/18/2020

Here he is pranking his brother:

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 4505/18/2020

God, I hate the incest troll! Anyway, Cocaine Gossip Girl claimed he's had plently of gay sex, including one in a threesome with her boyfriend. Not that I care because I'm not attracted to him at all.

by Anonymousreply 4605/18/2020

I once saw in at a coffee house in santa monica. This was just after freaks and geeks he was quite young. But what struck me as odd, was that he was in a suit. It was blazing hot and LA isn't a "suit-wearing" type place. I mean, you can leave the jacket in the car, bro! His skin was grey. His teeth were grey. He looked so unhealthy. He looked like death. Meh, I'd still fuck him. Even in THAT condition!

by Anonymousreply 4705/18/2020

I agree that he always looks unbathed and a bit smelly to me.

by Anonymousreply 4805/18/2020

[quote]Not everyone wants to be a movie star. If that is what he wanted, he could have easily gone in that direction after James Dean. He chose not to.

Oh please! He was the ultimate famewhore and was doing anything and everything for attention up until negative things started coming out about him. If he didn’t care about being a movie star, he wouldn’t have hosted the Oscars or been submitting his name for Oscar consideration.

by Anonymousreply 4905/18/2020

oh, god, the Oscar hosting. I'd suppressed that. But oh, sweet jesus. And I kind of like James Franco, or at least don't generally mind him. but Oh Dear God in Heaven!

by Anonymousreply 5005/18/2020

Thanks to his Jewish heritage, he was able to succeed in Hollywood. He made some poor lifestyle choices that melted away his snowflake fans.

by Anonymousreply 5105/18/2020

He’s bisexual and has even had boyfriends. Whenever I see his face now I think of a child molester.

by Anonymousreply 5205/18/2020

I mean, I know you're right r52, and I don't mean to belabor this question which deep down doesn't matter, but any names? Any details? Anything that isn't just "I heard ..."?

by Anonymousreply 5305/18/2020

The nude pic is probably real. Are you all forgetting the pic on his Instagram which showed cum all over a batman headpiece? He did not get the coveted part and did the pic for spite.

by Anonymousreply 5405/18/2020

There already was a thread that debunked the photo.

by Anonymousreply 5505/18/2020

It’s really telling that other than Seth Rogan and Amber Heard, he seems to have no actor friends.

by Anonymousreply 5605/18/2020

How is James handling the pandemic. Where is he quarantining and with whom?

I envision him watching copious amounts of porn, drinking heavily and putting on even more weight.

by Anonymousreply 5705/18/2020

To answer OPs question: James Franco still gets roles in movies?

by Anonymousreply 5805/18/2020

R57 He’s still “with” the beard that’s 14 years younger than him.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 5905/18/2020

About the beard, notice in his entire career before he got blackballed he had never been photographed with a girlfriend. So staged.

by Anonymousreply 6005/18/2020

He was excellent in Milk and the Disaster artist. He's made some poor career choices however. I mean, General Hospital? What was he thinking?

by Anonymousreply 6105/18/2020

He's actively bi, and was in what was apparently a violent relationship with another man a couple years back. I know for a fact several media outlets were competing to break the story but it never came out, I don't know if he has good lawyers or what.

by Anonymousreply 6205/18/2020

I watched "The Disaster Artist" a few weeks ago and it's even worse than "The Room."

by Anonymousreply 6305/18/2020

R63 Yeah, I didn’t understand what the hype about that movie was for. It sucked like most of his movies.

by Anonymousreply 6405/18/2020

I love that James and David are staying close as they weather the pandemic together. Go, boys!

by Anonymousreply 6505/19/2020

R65 How do you know they’re close during this time?

by Anonymousreply 6605/19/2020

R45 gives you the proof of how close they are.

by Anonymousreply 6705/19/2020

R55 Can you please link to this thread? I can't find it in all the Franco threads.

by Anonymousreply 6805/19/2020

His stinky, stanky, fakey-intellectual ways his all my art school fuck boy buttons! SIT ON MY FACE!

He's okay at all the things he does and does too much but he's hot and can have a conversation about Chris Burden so I want to blow him.

by Anonymousreply 6905/19/2020

I can talk about Chris Burden, r69. Can I sit on your face?

by Anonymousreply 7005/19/2020

R70 If you're James Franco you can. Crush my skull!

by Anonymousreply 7105/19/2020

"Straight-to-video?" What is this, 1994?

by Anonymousreply 7205/19/2020

[quote] Do all James Franco's movies go straight-to-video now?

This speak to the lack of diversity in Hollywood.

by Anonymousreply 7305/19/2020

[quote] Do all James Franco's movies go straight-to-video now?

This speakS to the lack of diversity in Hollywood.

by Anonymousreply 7405/19/2020

He should make a movie with Colby Keller. Call it OUTCAST. Make it cinéma vérité and feature a lot of hot man-on-man action.

by Anonymousreply 7505/19/2020

There are a lot of fake James Franco nudes online but I had it on good authority from someone very well connected this particular photo is real. Something to do with a dog-walker in LA? I could hit my friend up for more info. He shared it with me about three(?), showing it to me on his phone at a party in NYC. About a year later I saw it finally appeared online.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 7605/19/2020

*shared it with me about three YEARS AGO

by Anonymousreply 7705/19/2020

He did show off some nice thick pubes in "The Disaster Artist" before his career falterd. He was very good in the film, too, playing a very bad actor.

by Anonymousreply 7805/19/2020

"faltered", that is.

by Anonymousreply 7905/19/2020

Video? Haha. So 2003.

by Anonymousreply 8005/19/2020

OH, BOOMER!!!! ( Freeze frame as I cross my arms and roll my eyes ) We're stuck in an 80s sitcom!!!!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 8105/19/2020

Here you go

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 8205/19/2020

He was terrible R78 and most of his dialogue was unintelligible.

by Anonymousreply 8305/19/2020

He deserves everything that's happened to his career. Nothing was real.

by Anonymousreply 8405/19/2020

Loser.

by Anonymousreply 8505/20/2020

He's a real workaholic, makes me wonder what he's running away from.

by Anonymousreply 8605/20/2020

R86 Considering what’s come out about him in recent years, he obviously has issues.

by Anonymousreply 8705/20/2020

He's at least bi. There were photos of James Franco cuddling with many guys at a Loca (the crazy lady) a now defunct famous underground gay club in Sao Paulo Brazil in 2012.

by Anonymousreply 8805/20/2020

He’s 42 now, so nobody cares anymore.

by Anonymousreply 8905/20/2020

He‘s got beautiful bone structure and sufficient height - is going to age gracefully etc.

by Anonymousreply 9005/20/2020

For them to go straight-to-video/streaming, he'd have to at least have some output, no? I think he's gone the way of Mel Gibson, where he'll always have his supporters or defenders, but never be able to fully return. Only difference is, Mel Gibson was bigger, more famous and more successful. Franco's crew in Hollywood is Seth Rogan and Judd Apatow.

by Anonymousreply 9105/21/2020

R90 is James Franco.

by Anonymousreply 9205/21/2020

He could use some Biore strips.

by Anonymousreply 9305/21/2020

And some Botox for those crows feet.

by Anonymousreply 9405/21/2020

If Franco had a dick that big he probably would have done full frontal long ago. First sign of a fake nude is a too big dick.

by Anonymousreply 9505/21/2020

There were also at least a couple of references to his character(s) in THE DEUCE (he played twin brothers) having a big dick.

I think it's a thing for him (or at least a wish).

by Anonymousreply 9605/21/2020

R96 The majority of men claim to have a big dick (and most of the time it’s a lie).🙄

by Anonymousreply 9705/21/2020

I remember him on Stern once talking about how he tried filming himself taking a shit into a bowl (or on the floor - can’t remember) but couldn’t, and then he tried to film another guy taking a shit into a bowl and only a tiny piece came out. That’s when I knew he wasn’t all there in the head.

by Anonymousreply 9805/23/2020

[quote]Do all James Franco's movies go straight-to-video now?

Hold my beer.

by Anonymousreply 9905/23/2020

R98 I think he was talking about being in film school, and trying to imitate Kurt Kren's "16/67 September 20."

by Anonymousreply 10005/24/2020

Another thumb up for The Disaster Artist, a movie I went in expecting to hate, and walked out liking a lot.

by Anonymousreply 10105/24/2020

R100 If that is the case, then he’s not as creative as he thinks if he has to imitate what’s already been done.
