Rick Wilson promises anti-Trump group is about to launch a ‘pretty frigging nasty’ campaign to oust the president

Appearing on the HBO “Real Time” Overtime segment, Republican consultant Rick Wilson promised his anti-Donald Trump group, the Lincoln Project, is set to do everything thing they can to oust Donald Trump and his Congressional enablers out of office in 2020 with, in his words, a “pretty frigging nasty” blitz of ads.

Asked by host Bill Maher if his group will be endorsing a Democrat or another Republican for president, the acerbic Wilson said that is not their plan and that they will instead focus on hammering Donald Trump and vulnerable Republican lawmakers who defend him.

Meh.

by Anonymousreply 1February 1, 2020 9:09 PM

Rick Wilson is okay in my book.

by Anonymousreply 2February 1, 2020 9:10 PM

Why is that a Meh for you, MAGAt R1?

The Lincoln Project

OUR MISSION: Defeat Trump and Trumpism

I also saw an interview with Scaramucci who said he is joining the group's advisors who include George Conway, Steve Schmidt and Rick Wilson:

If it's anything like that delicious anti-McSally ad, I'm all for it.

Bill Maher created 2 dirty, anti-Trump ads, contained in this video.

The first ad starts at 2:18

The preface for the Deep-Fake ad starts at 6:00

I will believe it when I see it. Rick Wilson's insight has been underwhelming thus far.

by Anonymousreply 8February 1, 2020 9:41 PM

I'm with [R 8]. Conway, Schmidt and Wilson? I hope they are more effective than they have been thus far! Conway can't even persuade his own wife. Steve Schmidt gave us Palin and then Mr. Starbucks. Wilson's a good interview but he seems only to talk to people who watch CNN and MSNBC. Meh.

by Anonymousreply 9February 1, 2020 9:49 PM

Meh is right. This guy is very unconvincing in his alleged ability to do serious damage to Trump. More magical thinking that we can't afford.

by Anonymousreply 10February 1, 2020 10:10 PM

*More magical thinking than we can't afford.

by Anonymousreply 11February 1, 2020 10:10 PM

[quote] Wilson's a good interview but he seems only to talk to people who watch CNN and MSNBC.

Wilson is all about selling books. I trust Conway before Wilson. Conway is actually smart and knows the law. He also isn't always making promises that never seem to pan out. Of course, both of them deserve to rot in hell for all eternity for creating this mess in the first place. Still I'd bet on Conway before Rick Wilson.

by Anonymousreply 12February 1, 2020 10:13 PM

I trust Conway way less because HE IS MARRIED TO A HUGE TRUMP PROPAGANDIST.

Rick Wilson is selling books, sure, but he has the ring of authenticity to him. George Conway's whole act seems more like some sort of weird married-person kink fetish.

by Anonymousreply 13February 1, 2020 10:22 PM

I hope the gallows will be full of the rotting corpses who are identified as Republicans. Head corpse will be the bloated Trump.

by Anonymousreply 14February 1, 2020 10:30 PM

I hope the best and the brightest will join the group.

by Anonymousreply 15February 1, 2020 10:32 PM

Anti-Trump ads are futile. What is there left to say about him? How in the world do you smear Donald Trump?

Who ever will be running against him, should hardly mention Trump's name.

by Anonymousreply 16February 1, 2020 11:17 PM

[quote]How in the world do you smear Donald Trump?

Make him look poor. Achilles heel.

by Anonymousreply 17February 1, 2020 11:19 PM

"I hope the gallows will be full of the rotting corpses who are identified as Republicans. Head corpse will be the bloated Trump."

I want Trump to go away Mussolini style, along with the whore wife, the idiotic kids and their equally idiotic spouses, all Republican members of Congress, all the conservative Supreme Court Justices, Pat Roberson, Giuliani, Bill Barr, you get the picture.

There's plenty of room for gallows on the National Mall in DC.

by Anonymousreply 18February 1, 2020 11:20 PM

R14 Replace the word Republicans with Democrats and replace the word Trump with Obama and that statement sounds like something ripped straight from The Handmaid's Tale. We all lost our humanity sometime around 2015. It's disgusting how quickly we allowed ourselves to be turned into monsters.

by Anonymousreply 19February 1, 2020 11:23 PM

[quote]Make him look poor. Achilles heel.

Yeah, that sounds like a promising tactic.

by Anonymousreply 20February 1, 2020 11:23 PM

Rick Wilson is in it for Rick Wilson, period. I’m not sure he has any serious influence. Yes yes, MAGAT, whatever.

by Anonymousreply 21February 1, 2020 11:26 PM

Good luck convincing the Never Trumpers to vote for Bernie Sanders. If this were about principle, they would try to primary him. For Never Trumpers, it's all about damaged egos and chasing fame. Romney and Scaramouch would still be kissing Trump's ass if they still had power.

by Anonymousreply 22February 1, 2020 11:29 PM

R19 fails to understand human nature. Nothing changed in 2015. Nothing ever changes. Humans are lazy, greedy, slothful, selfish, etc , etc. Always have been. Always will be. Sometimes individual humans learn a little as they go a long. But human nature is constant. And we do the same shit over and over and over.

by Anonymousreply 23February 1, 2020 11:34 PM

I hope his group is able to do something. I’m tired of Chuck Schumer sending tersely worded letters. Someone has got to start showing up with a knife to this knife fight.

by Anonymousreply 24February 1, 2020 11:41 PM

Where is Lee Harvey Oswald when you need him??

by Anonymousreply 25February 1, 2020 11:48 PM

Microsoft News Poll

Do you believe Trump's conduct justifies removal from office?

Yes = 72%

No = 27%

Other / No opinion = 1%

Based on 17,318 responses. Snapshot of real-time results.

by Anonymousreply 26February 1, 2020 11:58 PM

Polls, polls, polls and still no witnesses and a turbo acquittal. I'm so sick of this.

Would be interesting to know how much money this group has. Posting videos on SM is great, but they need some serious airtime on major networks to beat Trump and his corrupt friends in the Senate.

by Anonymousreply 27February 2, 2020 12:11 AM

R26 The polls are all over the place.

In the last few days, Nate Silver has Trump's approval rating among registered and likely voters at the highest it's been in two years.

by Anonymousreply 28February 2, 2020 12:51 AM

Meh is right. For four years now the entire combined weight of the democratic party, the media, Hollywood, and the professional federal bureaucracy has waged uninterrupted war on Trump and Trump has beat them all. These guys are just trying to cash in on the desperation.

by Anonymousreply 29February 2, 2020 1:53 AM

r25…Oswald was a Russian agent, too.

by Anonymousreply 30February 2, 2020 1:54 AM

I started following Rick Wilson a few years ago on the recommendation of DL but I stopped after a while because he never actually says anything and he basically just advertises his books, which don't look all that great. I am sure that he could do or reveal something significant but so far he hasn't and I suspect that he won't. He's hedging his bets in case the Republican party comes back from the dead.

by Anonymousreply 31February 2, 2020 1:56 AM

[quote] How in the world do you smear Donald Trump?

Make tapes of Trump saying how stupid his voters are, they would be fake but you know he has said it.

Make tapes of Trump accepting bags of cash from Putin.

Make tapes of Trump saying how stupid Christians are for following him.

You can post them on Facebook since they refuse to take down false political ads.

by Anonymousreply 32February 2, 2020 1:59 AM

Make tapes of Trump fucking a Hillary Clinton lookalike.

by Anonymousreply 33February 2, 2020 2:02 AM

Well, let them do that little thing. It's nice but it will be a fart in a windstorm if they don't have a real plan in motion.

by Anonymousreply 34February 2, 2020 2:56 AM

This guy is obsessed with Trump and Twitter. He posts literally dozens if not hundreds of tweets a day and they’re all about Trump. And he’s released two books about...Trump. He has issues.

by Anonymousreply 35February 2, 2020 3:07 AM

He must be making money at it.

by Anonymousreply 36February 2, 2020 3:17 AM

R32 That's exactly how you lose

by Anonymousreply 37February 2, 2020 3:18 AM

Christians who support him are the dumbest people on earth. It is the weirdest thing I have seen in my lifetime.

by Anonymousreply 38February 2, 2020 3:28 AM

For what it's worth, Rick had a really juicy story about Trump right before the 2016 election and the media flat out refused to run it. He never revealed what it was at the time, perhaps he was saving it for a 2020 October surprise.

They will not refuse this time.

by Anonymousreply 39February 2, 2020 3:29 AM

[quote]For what it's worth, Rick had a really juicy story about Trump right before the 2016 election and the media flat out refused to run it. He never revealed what it was at the time, perhaps he was saving it for a 2020 October surprise.

Rick Wilson has been promising juicy stories since 2016 and has delivered jack shit. He's cried wolf one too many times.

by Anonymousreply 40February 2, 2020 3:30 AM

Oh right - “the THING.”

by Anonymousreply 41February 2, 2020 3:32 AM

Where this will work is on the Independents who can vote either way. Wilson is trying to restore the Republican Party... make no mistake... if it weren't for Trump we'd hate him.

But if he's determined to do damage to Trumpers, I say best of luck, dude. Every turned off Independent counts.

R32 That sounds like quite a strategy!

by Anonymousreply 44February 2, 2020 3:56 AM

r37 is right. r32 can't even conceive of a way to win that doesn't involve cheating. That's how we lose. Instead make great policy that will resonate with people and make them feel the Dems have their back and will help them in their daily life. We lose by cheating, taking shortcuts and replacing great policy messaging with woke stunts ( ie promising your cabinet will be picked by a binary nine year old).

by Anonymousreply 45February 2, 2020 7:10 AM

Tired of him and Michael Moore and all the anti-Trump profiteers. All they care about is the gravy train, just like Trump.

by Anonymousreply 46February 2, 2020 7:21 AM

I wish America was the type of country where traitors like Trump and McConnell could be arrested and put on trial, by the citizens.

by Anonymousreply 47February 2, 2020 8:21 AM

Fuck him and fuck "respectable" Republicans. They're just as naive as Biden is when he says that all it will take is a nice guy in the White House to get Republicans to work with Democrats. Please. Trump IS the Republican Party, the Republican Party is Trump. The way some of these guys act, as though Trump was some aberration from outers space that just landed on earth in 2016 is bullshit revisionist history. Trump isn't an anomaly. He's a direct result of the direction the Republican Party has been going in for DECADES.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm all for them spending money to help defeat Trump and his enablers, but their party is still vile and will still be vile long after Trump is dust.

by Anonymousreply 48February 2, 2020 8:45 AM

I'm sure the ads will do a brutally effective job of preaching to the choir. They will probably air non-stop during the Rachel Maddow Show.

The Mueller report didn't cause Trump's approval ratings to drop. The impeachment trial didn't cause Trump's approval ratings to drop. But I'm sure these "frigging nasty" ads will do the trick.

by Anonymousreply 49February 2, 2020 8:59 AM

[quote]Instead make great policy that will resonate with people and make them feel the Dems have their back and will help them in their daily life.

Ha ha ha ha ha Smitty you always find a way to make me laugh!

I know, let's explain the policy in more thorough detail so that the electorate are completely persuaded too! Right?

by Anonymousreply 50February 2, 2020 9:00 AM

Indeed it's starting already. When Republicans start gunning for their own you know the party is over.

by Anonymousreply 51February 2, 2020 3:24 PM

I’m all for doing whatever they can to defeat Trump. And I like them all now. But Steve Schmidt and Nicolle Wallace gave us Sarah Palin, and yet John McCain is still referred to as a fucking hero. He’s not. His presidential campaign slogan was “America First.” By naming Palin, McCain did not put America first at all.

Conway's fucking disgusting wife works for Trump. What’s wrong with her? What’s wrong with him? There’s something morally corrupt about both of them.

Scaramucci said the Lincoln Project would not be endorsing a Democratic candidate. I saw him in a recent interview. He still wants a Repugs for president.

by Anonymousreply 52February 2, 2020 4:33 PM

But could anybody have predicted Palin? I know she wasn't vetted well but would anybody really have imagined that?

by Anonymousreply 53February 2, 2020 4:35 PM

The brand name, “The Lincoln Project,” sucks. Do they think that a lofty, noble name like that is going to be able to fight a thug, morally bankrupt criminal like Trump and the rest of the Repigs?

These born again Repigs should know better. Did they fail Marketing 101?

by Anonymousreply 54February 2, 2020 4:39 PM

R53. Could we have predicted Palin and her scourge? YES!!

An unvetted, Tea Party, inexperienced, right-wing whacko who was selected by McCain simply because she was a woman but lacked a command of any issue? You don’t think the wrath and destruction of Palin couldn’t have been predicted? You’re blind and politically ignorant

by Anonymousreply 55February 2, 2020 4:51 PM

She didn't endorse the tea party until after the election. She was a bad and cynical choice, not the first on either side of the aisle. Calm down, R55, hindsight doesn't make you any smarter. Or nicer. What a freakout.

by Anonymousreply 56February 2, 2020 4:55 PM

Christians are the dumbest people on earth.

Fixed it for you.

by Anonymousreply 57February 2, 2020 4:58 PM

Rick has highly questionable anal hygiene, but also has a very good agent

by Anonymousreply 58February 2, 2020 5:09 PM

The Lincoln Project, Rick Wilson's group, put together the ad against Sen. McSally at R6 that is quite nasty.

You people saying that he's just talk should watch that ad. I don't know how effective it would be, but it's definitely nasty.

by Anonymousreply 59February 2, 2020 5:16 PM

It just might work. If there is anything republicans do well, it's nasty. Dems need to get a little nastier themselves . Republicans will do and say all sorts of vile things but the minute a lefty gets a little rough around the edges, hordes of dems will scream "Too far! ".

by Anonymousreply 60February 2, 2020 5:17 PM

I like that they are going after Trump enablers like McSally. I suppose they won't bother going after the retirees like Alexander, but I look forward to whatever they to Rubio.

by Anonymousreply 61February 2, 2020 5:37 PM

[quote]Christians who support him are the dumbest people on earth. It is the weirdest thing I have seen in my lifetime.

Actually, they're savvy and ruthless. We could actually learn something from them. They are putting their personal distaste for the man aside because of what he's accomplishing for him. The way that he's changed the federal judiciary for a generation by putting more conservative justices into place is probably worth it to them alone. He could rape an entire battalion of female Iraq War vets and they'd find some way to ignore it or forgive him.

by Anonymousreply 62February 2, 2020 8:54 PM

Bloomberg is spending like crazy. Why doesn't he target vulnerable Republican senators? It would help us all.

by Anonymousreply 63February 2, 2020 9:02 PM

Actually Bloomberg has been giving serious money to the DNC, the DGVF, and Stacey Abrams Fair Fight campaign. He bankrolled a slew of Dems in 2018.

I wish he'd also give them the money he's using on his own campaign and drop out, but there's no denying he's helping Dems across the board.
