Gay Sex in Afghanistan: A rite of passage?

[post redacted because independent.co.uk thinks that links to their ridiculous rag are a bad thing. Somebody might want to tell them how the internet works. Or not. We don't really care. They do suck though. Our advice is that you should not click on the link and whatever you do, don't read their truly terrible articles.]

The Taliban outlawed it until they were kicked out. They should have kept them in power, such a waste of US money.

by Anonymousreply 1February 1, 2020 8:58 PM

The way the Taliban got into power was by outlawing it. It was *that* hated there that they preferred fascism in its place.

The boys would be kidnapped by the ruling generals in front of their family, become feminised and drug addicted dancing boys, and dropped back home when they turn 17 or 18, where they were then unmarriageable because of their history, so they were relatively worthless to the family.

The Taliban's main promise was to stop that practice.

by Anonymousreply 2February 1, 2020 9:07 PM

[quote] The Taliban's main promise was to stop that practice.

Why?

by Anonymousreply 3February 1, 2020 9:11 PM

[quote] The Taliban's main promise was to stop that practice.

If the US taxpayers knew that, we wouldn't have wasted our time and money there. We're still there and it's still a shit-hole.

by Anonymousreply 4February 1, 2020 9:27 PM

It wasn't just young boys. British soldiers said that the Afghan men were generally very attentive to them.

by Anonymousreply 5February 1, 2020 9:29 PM

Why did you post this, OP?

by Anonymousreply 6February 1, 2020 9:36 PM

Put this on my reading list!

by Anonymousreply 7February 1, 2020 9:46 PM

Some of these boys are as young as eight or nine, Op, so it's not "gay sex," it's pedophilia.

There was an NYT article about it, one American soldier ended up killing himself over what he witnessed.

by Anonymousreply 8February 1, 2020 9:50 PM

R6 I wanted to expose your disgusting secret. OP

One of the comments below the article is interesting

ABID six years ago Pathans or Pashtuns or Pakhtuns live on both sides of the Durand Line. It is well known in my country Pakistan that Pathans, many but not all, prefer sodomising young boys. This habit to a lesser extent is followed by some males of Pakistan and India also. The basic reason is lack of easy accessibility to females because the latter lead a very protected and sequestered lives. So I can’t understand why comments from Pathans on this article have been so negative. The author only points out a long-existing reality which has been well-noted long ago by admirers of Pathans such as the author John Masters who had spent time in the erstwhile NWFP. In his book "Bugles and a Tiger" he writes: ""Lawrence noted the tendency of the Arabs to homosexuality. It was the same among the Pathans. ’A woman for business, a boy for pleasure, a goat for choice’ is an old Pathan proverb, and one of the most famous of Pathan songs, the ’Zakhmi Dil’ (’Wounded Heart’) begins with the words, ’There’s a boy across the river with a bottom like a peach, but, alas, I cannot swim.’ I do not know why homosexuality should affect various peoples so differently, but there was something startlingly incongruous about the idea when associated with these fierce men, physically the hardest people on earth - they use sharp stones for toilet paper - and with the vast, grim jaggedness in which they live. A Pathan walks with the grace of a man-eating tiger, in long and unhurried strides, with a lift to them. He carries his head insolently up and his shoulders carelessly back, but without any stiffness as from drilling. Pathans often have pale-blue eyes, untamed and a little terrifying, and the young men’s eyes are rimmed with kohl. Gritty dirt is ingrained in their skin, and soles of their feet are like cracked leather. They often wear roses in their long hair, and I frequently wish I could see a Pathan entering a gay cocktail party given by Manhattan fairies."

Pretty old story and serious moves have been implemented to tackle the issue. The guy in this clip high tailed it out of his province when an investigation was started.

Pathan Imran Khan in his cricketing days. Ahhh. I digress. Agree with r11: British soldiers returning from Afghanistan have long reported on ‘Chai Boys’ in the context of it being an accepted part of the culture which NATO and other organisations present in the country was respectful of. Afghan generals meeting with NATO representatives to negotiate the then ‘Hearts and Minds’ presence in their region chose to turn blind eyes to the prevalence of the abuse of these boys and this attitude filtered down.

by Anonymousreply 15February 2, 2020 7:33 AM

that guy is gorgeous

by Anonymousreply 16February 2, 2020 7:33 AM

R14 Any possibility that a US administration would match that on spending for US citizens at home?

by Anonymousreply 17February 2, 2020 7:33 AM

Does this mean that Imran was raped as a boy and now rapes boys in the sick circle of abuse? The article said that the majority of men in the country are pedos

Imran Khan is a Pathan and Pakistani. The Pashtuns, also Pukhtuns or Pushtuns, historically known as ethnic Afghans or Pathans, are an Iranic ethnic group native to South and Central Asia, who share a common history and culture. They primarily live in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Wikipedia

According to OP's article, if they started rounding up all the Afghani pedos would mean arresting 75 percent of the male population

by Anonymousreply 22February 2, 2020 8:10 AM

In a society that enforced extreme gender segregation this is to be expected. Not just in Afghan/Pakistan but also in the equally conservative Arab Gulf states.

by Anonymousreply 23February 2, 2020 9:02 AM

Ergo: Misogyny breeds pedophilia.

by Anonymousreply 24February 4, 2020 5:19 PM

Put a bunch of women in charge and the results wouldn’t be too much different.

by Anonymousreply 25February 4, 2020 5:21 PM

The idea of gay sex in any Middle Eastern country horrifies me. Middle Easterners are an unclean and homophobic people, so something tells me anal hygiene isn't their strong suit. Ugh, I bet I know where Erna is planning her next summer vacation. Bleh.

by Anonymousreply 26February 4, 2020 5:26 PM

No one needs to be in charge r25. How about some equality and equal opportunity? It's not hard.

by Anonymousreply 27February 4, 2020 5:28 PM

R33 If women were given equal status in society, this would not be the social phenomenon it is. Ergo: misogyny.

by Anonymousreply 34February 4, 2020 6:37 PM

Women have a dominant status is that society.

by Anonymousreply 35February 4, 2020 6:49 PM

In actuality this doesn't happen.

It's an anti-American meme popular among white supremacists and the far left.

by Anonymousreply 36February 4, 2020 6:50 PM

In India, men have sex with each other because a woman must save themselves for a "parent arranged marriage". Those men become so sexually frustrated, after puberty that they have sex with each other. There's no name for it in their culture, but it is socially acceptable and everyone knows it goes on. When you deprive men from have sex, they'll get it where they can.

On the flip side of that, I saw two Indian men interviewed in a documentary and they were both forced to marry women, but wanted to be with each other and were living as a couple instead of with their wives.

I wish these backward cultures would catch up the rest of the world.

One of the most horrific reveals from the original Wikileaks dump (when Wikileaks actually cared about doing some good) was that taxpayer funded US company DynCorp (there to train Afghan police) was "hiring" these boys for parties. The press basically brushed it aside, despite DynCorp having a history of child rape scandals in their overseas contract work.

by Anonymousreply 39February 4, 2020 9:58 PM

Probably no more prevalent than in any other country or religion. Catholic church, anybody?

by Anonymousreply 40February 5, 2020 9:04 AM

"Passed down through many generations and spurred by the vicious cycle created by the pedophile-victim relationship, many Afghan men have lost their attraction towards the opposite gender"

The man that wrote this article is homophobic. Nothing I can find out about him points to any expertise in anthropology, psychology or an glancing expertise in any field related to human sexuality.

He's a charlatan. I'm disappointed the Independent would let him write a perfectly reasonable proposition for an article, and lace it with such incendiary and unsupported notions.
