New York Comedy Club cancels Ari Shaffir act after threats over Kobe Bryant joke
The New York Comedy Club canceled a performance by Ari Shaffir after he called Kobe Bryant a rapist on Twitter hours after the NBA legend’s death.
Shaffir was scheduled to perform Tuesday, but the Kips Bay venue received threats after Shaffir tweeted Bryant “got away with rape because all the Hollywood liberals … enjoy rooting for the Lakers more than they dislike rape. Big ups to the hero who forgot to gas up his chopper.”
The club canceled his performance and filed an aggravated-harassment report with police over the threats. Shaffir later turned to Instagram to say it was “just a joke” and recounted his long history of making fun of the recently deceased.

Kobe Bryant was literally a rapist. By definition. This needs to be repeated ad nauseum until the media and his creepy little sycophantic fans get it.
HE.
WAS.
A.
RAPIST.
And no, there is no redemption for him in death. He never attempted to do right by her, and no, being forced to pay her 2.5 million is NOT redemptive.

Agree with R8 completely. Who here on the DL, or really anywhere, had heard of Ari before this? I would assume hardly anyone or no one. The fact that people are talking about him is a win in and of itself.
Plus, if Ari's mention of Kobe's raping ways ends up seeing other women coming forward with their own stories of being raped, then Ari is going to look like a brave hero the way Hannibal Burrus did when he called out Bill Cosby.
There's going to be some angry incels and 4channers flaming at him now, but they will be drowned out by most sane and moral people when the true scope of Kobe's darkness comes out to the forefront...and it will, it's only a matter of time.

It was probably the conspiracy theorist Q-Anon-adjacent "Hollywood liberal elite rapists" talk that got him into trouble more than anything.

Exactly R20. Gay White Men are the most sensitive and you see it daily right here on DL. They talk shit about every group. But if you dare say anything against the "gay community" they all lose their collective shit.
Gay people are not sacred lambs. Especially if their not going to give the same privilege to other groups, who actually happens to be REAL, minorities and marginalized groups.
But this Ari guy is getting destroyed on YouTube. Everyone is making videos about what he said. Even LA gangs are on to him. He better be careful.

That helicopter crashed and all those people died because Kobe Bryant was too big of an egomaniac to pay attention to clear indications that it was unsafe to fly and nobody was in a position to tell him no. And nobody disputes the fact that he anally raped that woman in the hotel, they just felt that people like Kobe have a right to do whatever the fuck they want regardless of the consequences. So we all see where that leads.

Did you like your own dumb comment immediately after posting it? I'm not even a basketball fan and I couldn't tell you anything about Bryant beyond the fact that he was one of the best in his sport. I want to know what do you gain from repeatedly calling him a rapist NOW?
And you left out the rest of what I said. When he was alive, I saw people continue to call him a rapist - and guess what? No one gave a shit when they did. People like you decided to lie to yourselves and claim no one said it because he was black; that's a fucking lie. I always saw people refer to him as a rapist.
So I'm going to ask you again: What do you gain from screaming he was a rapist when the bodies haven't even been buried and his living, young children and his wife are going through hell. What do you personally gain from engaging in this? Who exactly do you help since frankly, you don't seem like someone who really gives a shit, but since he's black, you can pretend it's because he's black that no one says he's a rapist when it's actually the dead part NOW that people object to in your attempt to be some faux advocate for rape victims. You remind me of the people who pushed the Iraq war because "Saddam killed his own people." In other words, you don't really give a shit, a lot of you just see an excuse to scream about those black people getting away with everything! Get it through your head, he was called a rapist in life...it's the sudden dead part that is the problem.

The details surrounding the rape accusations against him were murky AF. I've been reading up on the case since his death and I still can't say for sure which side I've landed on as far as his guilt or innocence. From everything I read, it wasn't enthusiastic consent but it also wasn't rape. He admitted in his statement he truly believed and still believed after the case that it was consensual, but could see how she thought otherwise. Anybody who thinks that case was cut and dry is lying to themselves.

I'm not R34, but you are aware of the fact that this site has become pretty much a place where predominantly white gay men run to start threads about minorities so much as jaywalking anywhere on earth, specifically so they can attack the entire group and claim "This is why Trump won." If we call out white people who *specifically* voted for Trump and are suffering and we dare to say "fuck them, they deserve it" we get "This is why Trump won." It seems around here that it's ok to make jokes about people based on their race (when they're not white) or religion and they're supposed to take it with a bunch of predominantly white, gay men telling them to stop being so sensitive in the same breath as calling for the firing of a comedian for....gay jokes. Bonus points when the comedian isn't white, then his head should be on a spike.
I mean is it a lack of introspection and self-awareness that makes you not see the glaring hypocrisy in how you think? You're telling people not to be sensitive or thin-skinned in the same breath as BEING those things.

R40 If that's the case then the rule should be either both minorities and racist white guys aren't allowed to get offended or they both are. But it's unethical to say one group is allowed to be offended while the other is not, and that applies to both sides. That's hypocrisy at its finest.

What pissed me off are people claiming that we weren't allowed to call him that because he was "black" what absolute BULLSHIT coming from people who didn't even pay attention to him at all before he got killed. Of course there were always people who thought he was a rapist and said it.
It's because he's dead and within hours of it happening, people were screaming rapist. Why? You're not helping victims of sexual assault doing that in that moment.

The Smoking Gun has transcripts of Bryant’s initial interview with police in Colorado. He lies at the outset of the interview, denying that he had any sexual contact with the woman at all. The cops use this against him later as they continue to question him, letting him know that they know he’s lying. He does not come across well in the interview. The complainant’s interview with police is also online.

How is it that some of you keep pointing to living rapists thinking you've made a point.
You think when John Lennon was killed, his fans would take kindly to it being mentioned that he abused his first wife and left his child for Yoko? People are allowed to talk about whatever they want, whenever they want as long as it isn’t defamatory, and you can’t defame a dead person. Anyone in the public eye who dies a violent unexpected death is going to be the subject of comment irrespective of how that person lived his life, and were Bryant somehow able to speak from beyond the veil I hope he would have the insight to admit he wasn’t exactly a saint.
The level of personal investment people are displaying in this matter is fascinating in its florid excess. The only thing I’ve seen like it was the frenzied public grief following the death of Princess Diana.

If all it takes is being black, then I guess Trump is being defended because he's white.
And do you see black people clamoring to defend R. Kelly?
Kobe was called a rapist in life, so STFU. It's the fact that he just fucking died along with his kid - that's the part you keep leaving out when you mention these other people accused of sexual offenses. They're all alive and when Kobe was alive, he did take shit for it. Somehow, when people argue in Kobe's defense, it always manages to circle back into proving the point that Kobe escapes judgement by society for his crimes because he was black, ludicrously wealthy, and ludicrously famous.
Even if you like Kobe, even if you think it's racist to say anything bad about Kobe, it is a fact that Kobe Bryant raped a woman. No amount of idolization or martyring will change this.

People wouldn't be wailing in the streets. There wouldn't be non-stop news about how tragic his death was. If people really confronted him for being a rapist when he was alive then he would be remembered as Kobe Bryant the rapist and not Kobe Bryant, loving father and devoted husband. People would be discussing his rape case in articles about his death and not his accomplishments.

PS - Kobe Bryant didn’t “forget to gas up his chopper.” That’s a majorly retarded thing to say right there. But Bryant was black & in red states, “them black folk be so dumb! Thats jiss what a n word would do, hyuck, hyuck, right Jed? That’s so funn-nay!”

What R82 said. Honestly, aside from the day it happened, I've managed to avoid coverage. I only see it with the people obsessed on here.
I'm sure it's just a coincidence that threads involving minorities like him and anything Meghan Markle gets the DLers foaming.

The racism of Dataloungers does not make Kobe any less of a rapist. Interesting how whenever the rape is brought up people who defend Kobe seem to immediately pull the race card. It's almost as if they're afraid of admitting something and would rather change the subject than face a fact.

I'm not even going read any of the above comments.
Kobe's accuser said she was going to fuck him to her coworker ahead of the sex. She let him cum in her. She went to a party that night. Bragged about fucking him, then fucked another guy the next day! She let guy number two cum in her and then went to file a complaint at the urging of her friend, because she could make huge amount by suing him, which she did. 2 million dollars. She was a money hungry whore and that's why the prosecution dropped the charges but he still had to pay the settlement in the civil action.
He was not a rapist.

by Anonymous | reply 96 | January 31, 2020 1:44 AM

Again, the Clintons are both homophobic and Polanski and Woody are both rapists and pedophiles. However this does not change the fact that Kobe is ALSO a rapist, a homophobe, and a pedophile. All three of these are facts that have evidence backing them up. Bringing up other rapists, homophobes, and pedophiles does not negate the actions of another rapist, homophobe, or pedophile.

Why are you still talking about it? You fat grannies obsessed with Kobe are the only ones still ranting about his death, even to the point of starting threads about people obsessively talking about his death. That’s pretty asinine.

[quote]People are pointing out he's a rapist because everyone and their mother is turning him into a saint. If he were treated normally this wouldn't be a problem, but the whole country seems insistent on turning him into the Second Coming.
I think there's a lot of truth in this. I freaking hate the way even some villains are deified when they die, just because they were famous. Like Reagan.

If I remember correctly, Kobe was always given the side eye about the age of Vanessa when they became an item. He got banned from coming to pick her up from high school.
If you read the older comments on LSA, black women shaded him for marrying a Mexican and being a colorist.
I really do not have an opinion of the above, but is a part of his story. One that was unfortunately cut short.

Well according to the extreme liberal left, we're now supposed to "believe ALL women" when they claim rape
Yup, without any concrete evidence just believe them
I read up on the Line case and I think that he didn't do it and that the girl knew what she was getting into, which is why "believe all women" is a DISASTER waiting to happen, not to mention the history that black men have through the decades of being FALSELY accused of rape
Once again, the extreme white liberal left in action

r103 blasts extreme liberalism and then proceeds to repeat the liberal talking point of black men being perpetual victims. Sorry, but at Kobe's level of wealth and influence, the only color that matters is green, not black. He could buy his way out of anything and did.

I follow several comedians who are friends of Ari's, and I've never liked him. He comes off as an absolute douche who likes to wear the "I'm soulless" pose like a hat. Worse than that, though, he's just a fucking asshole. He drugged his "friend"—fellow comedian Bert Kreischer (unbeknownst to him)–with molly while they were filming a podcast, and proceeded to act like it was no big deal. He isn't funny. He is a miserable alcoholic who hates himself and projects it on everyone around him.

R109 I said EXTREME far left, not the majority of them as I have leftist leanings myself
Tell me how "Believe all women" regardless of evidence or truth is NOT a disaster for men everywhere?
And gay men think they're exempt? Wrong. That fag hag whose your best friend and might have a thing for you but for obvious reasons you're not into her and you guys had one too many to drink and then she claims rape, even if you didn't touch her because we're supposed to "believe ALL women!"
Because of that, I don't give rides to women from work anymore, I've been hit in multiple times, I'm told I'm handsome and I'm very masculine, and had weird shit happen to me with at least 2 women when I told them I was gay and not interested
White liberal extremists really need to get their heads out of their ass and realize the RAMIFICATIONS of what they're pushing
In the last couple the extreme far left has proven to be just as nutty as the extreme far right, which everyone with half a brain already knew, the "gays cause hurricanes" type of whacko's...

Funny, I have yet to meet a gay man who was accused of rape by a "fag hag"

R110 holy shit can you STFU you nut bag MRA.
You only did more to make yourself look like a complete asshole, by pointing out how it's NOT gay men getting accused, or any other random man. 9/10 later it's found they have a pattern.
False accusations are less prominent than false accusations with other crimes. Over 90% of rape case defendants, never see the inside of a jail.
So GFYO. You nuts aren't going to divide and conquer those on the left with common fucking sense. Regardless of overblown shit being slung, gay men are smart enough to recognize straight men can be pieces of shit, when at the end of the day, it wasn't women gay bashing them.
Seriously, this attempt at stirring hatred among allies is getting old. Go back to your shitty INCEL reddit.

R113 so ANY woman can claim rape and we're supposed to believe her without evidence, just because she's a woman and women are always victims, which is sexist logic right there
And the point stands and many other men have said the same, thanks to the radical left, O will not only give women a ride home, unless there is more than 2 people in the car, when I have meetings, O make sure the door is open and that another man is present too
Nobody has answered my question of the ramifications of false rape accusations
