Be brutally honest.

Disgusting

by Anonymousreply 1January 29, 2020 3:57 AM

I love it. I’m Canadian. I just don’t like all the shitty brands with sugar and other bizarre ingredients. My favourite brand is Adams.

by Anonymousreply 2January 29, 2020 3:59 AM

I'm a fan, but it has to be the crunchy stuff; creamy is the work of the Devil.

by Anonymousreply 3January 29, 2020 4:36 AM

Much tastier than Vegemite/Marmite/Nutella.

by Anonymousreply 4January 29, 2020 4:47 AM

The odd spoonful with crunchy bits is ok.

Wonderful bait for mouse traps.

by Anonymousreply 5January 29, 2020 4:52 AM

Love it.

by Anonymousreply 6January 29, 2020 4:52 AM

Crunchy peanut butter (with no sweeteners or icky things) on a slice of toast is a perfect quick breakfast. In fact, I ate some this morning.

by Anonymousreply 7January 29, 2020 4:59 AM

Love it too. On toast. But smooth only

by Anonymousreply 8January 29, 2020 4:59 AM

If you have some sesame oil on hand you can use peanut butter with a dash of sesame oil as a substitute for tahini if you are making hummus.

by Anonymousreply 9January 29, 2020 5:03 AM

I put about 1/4 cup in a microwave safe bowl and zap it for about 45 secs till melted/softened.

Then I slice a banana into to rounds over the bowl. A quick stir to coat, a cup of coffee, some juice and toast and I have a quick, nutritious breakfast.

I prefer the smooth variety for this.

by Anonymousreply 10January 29, 2020 5:04 AM

I 😍 love the honey roasted.

by Anonymousreply 11January 29, 2020 5:07 AM

Now I'm thinking about Mr. Peanut, and I'm crying as I type.

by Anonymousreply 12January 29, 2020 5:09 AM

R12, salty tears?

by Anonymousreply 13January 29, 2020 5:13 AM

From Australia.

Love peanut butter. A layer of PB and a layer of Cherry Jam on toast. Yum.

by Anonymousreply 14January 29, 2020 5:18 AM

Food of the gods.

by Anonymousreply 15January 29, 2020 5:20 AM

Did you hear the one about the two peanuts on the subway? One of them was as-salt-ed!!!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 16January 29, 2020 5:21 AM

R10 I used banana peanut butter as a topping for my waffles. I could eat it for every meal. Peanut Butter Waffles, Peanut Butter Sandwiches, Peanut Butter with chocolate, it also makes a good pasta sauce.

by Anonymousreply 17January 29, 2020 5:21 AM

R9 You could also make a good salad dressing out of that

by Anonymousreply 18January 29, 2020 5:24 AM

make a spicy, thai peanut sauce.

by Anonymousreply 19January 29, 2020 5:26 AM

Peanut Butter ice cream is also good

by Anonymousreply 20January 29, 2020 5:26 AM

I heard that someone in my building used to smear it on his balls so his Boston Terrier would lick it all off. I never verified this of course but can you imagine?

by Anonymousreply 21January 29, 2020 5:43 AM

It's crunched up peanuts. What's the big deal? Not like it's raw fish ovum or something.

by Anonymousreply 22January 29, 2020 5:45 AM

Are you talking about real peanut butter, where if it sits long enough the oil rises to the top of the butter and needs to be stirred back in, or are you talking about the peanut flavored soft plastic sold by big corporations in the US labelled as peanut butter?

by Anonymousreply 23January 29, 2020 5:53 AM

Uhhh, let’s see.... Him/ peanut butter; Him/ peanut butter; Him/ peanut butter....

Uhmm..., peanut butter.

The Irish people on YouTube don't like peanut butter, and they don't like root beer either. American companies should do a better job of weaning the Irish off of potatoes and assimilating them to crave American style foods.

by Anonymousreply 26January 29, 2020 5:58 AM

Do people ever eat it in sandwiches with jelly like they do here?

by Anonymousreply 27January 29, 2020 6:09 AM

The crunchy, less sweet, more natural stuff is great. The over sweetened really commercial brands are disgusting. As is Nutella. I don’t have a sweet tooth.

But then, I really like Marmite.

by Anonymousreply 28January 29, 2020 6:09 AM

It's not anymore offensive than Nutella, and that's huge in certain parts of Europe.

by Anonymousreply 29January 29, 2020 6:12 AM

Bo Derek is SO! STUPID!

She took the Pepsi Challenge - she chose Jif!

by Anonymousreply 30January 29, 2020 6:15 AM

I bet Rhoda loves it.

by Anonymousreply 31January 29, 2020 6:15 AM

I ate a jar of peanut butter last week, but it was the reduced fat variety, so it was okay.

by Anonymousreply 32January 29, 2020 6:17 AM

Only on apples for me. I’d never eat a peanut butter sandwich.

by Anonymousreply 33January 29, 2020 6:20 AM

It's vastly superior spread to that Nutella dogshit that Europeans slurp daily.

by Anonymousreply 34January 29, 2020 6:22 AM

A culinary atrocity.

by Anonymousreply 35January 29, 2020 6:24 AM

Even worse than Nutella. From Belgium, Biscoff spread made from Biscoff biscuits. Gag-inducing sweetness.

by Anonymousreply 37January 29, 2020 6:38 AM

R36 Looks delicous

by Anonymousreply 38January 29, 2020 6:50 AM

I fucking love it but I avoid buying it because it's so high in calories (gotta watch my figah'). But I never quite understood the peanut butter/jelly combination. You hear about that one in American movies all the time so I tried it once but it tasted bloody disgusting. I think PB is perfectly tasty on its own.

by Anonymousreply 39January 29, 2020 7:11 AM

It's average, just there like mayonnaise. Which is why I can't understand why Americans go so gaga over it. I'm currently in Italy and I find Italians behave the same with Nutella.

by Anonymousreply 40January 29, 2020 7:21 AM

Never ask a Brit about food.

by Anonymousreply 41January 29, 2020 7:25 AM

My partner uses it to make a peanut sauce that's delicious, but other than that it's just *meh* with me.

by Anonymousreply 42January 29, 2020 8:23 AM

Vom. Still better than Nutella though.

Give me Marmite or a nice sharp marmalade thanks.

by Anonymousreply 43January 29, 2020 8:30 AM

And then there's this...

by Anonymousreply 44January 29, 2020 8:47 AM

Well, I'm American, so I know you didn't ask me. But I highly recommend powdered peanut butter. It makes a great smoothie with a couple of ripe bananas, and is a great way to add protein and flavor to cornmeal flapjacks.

Americans are getting away from the industrial sugar sludge brands. Natural peanut butters are taking up a lot more space on store shelves.

by Anonymousreply 46January 29, 2020 9:00 AM

R44 I *need* that. Possibly quite deeply.

by Anonymousreply 47January 29, 2020 5:31 PM

First time I had it I was weirded out by the texture, I didn't expect that it would stick inside the mouth like that. I wasn't a fan but it's grown on me. I don't mind it now, but prefer the crunchy type.

Crema Novi remains my favorite spread, ever.

by Anonymousreply 48January 29, 2020 6:07 PM

Not well-liked in Ireland?

by Anonymousreply 49January 30, 2020 1:21 AM

R45 yes but it tastes like Satan’s asshole reconstituted and eaten like that

by Anonymousreply 50January 30, 2020 1:31 AM

R26 I am Irish and enjoy peanut butter.

by Anonymousreply 55January 31, 2020 5:40 AM

I like it. Too bad you can no longer eat it in public lest a single particle be inhaled by the millions of allergic little Brentleighs.

by Anonymousreply 56January 31, 2020 6:25 AM

^I am an American though...unsurprisingly

by Anonymousreply 57January 31, 2020 6:26 AM

When I am in the states I head to Trader Joe's for Valencia organic salted crunchy and bring back several jars in my checked luggage (Homeland theatre idiots think it is a liquid).

by Anonymousreply 58January 31, 2020 8:23 AM

Love peanut butter. But mainstream American brands are not what I consider to be peanut butter - they are absolute trash. Texture and taste is really not good.

I only really like Whole Earth Smooth Peanut Butter these days. It's also what I give my dog with his medication as he loves it and it uses sustainable palm oil and has no added sugar.

by Anonymousreply 59January 31, 2020 9:52 AM

I love peanut butter, but not any American brands. It should just have peanuts and salt in it, not any weird shit or sugar.

by Anonymousreply 60January 31, 2020 10:34 AM

Crunchy peanut butter on celery is one of my favourite snacks.

by Anonymousreply 61January 31, 2020 11:05 AM

Don’t they call it “peanut paste” in UK?

by Anonymousreply 62January 31, 2020 6:34 PM

I don’t like it with jelly or jam, and I’m not fond of it on bread.

I keep a small jar in the refrigerator so that when I get the occasional craving for it, I can have a small spoonful.

by Anonymousreply 63January 31, 2020 6:43 PM

Depends where the peanut butter is from. I've tried some brands from Africa which was awful as it was too sweet. I prefer the organic variation they sell in Scandinavia which is less sweet.

by Anonymousreply 64May 27, 2020 10:22 PM

I like that many peanut butter companies have gone down a route similar to Nutella which is essentially hazelnut butter with cocoa.

Some companies are making cocoa peanut butter, as well as other similar "flavors."

Also, almond butter and cashew butter are getting more common and getting the same Nutella treatment.

by Anonymousreply 65May 27, 2020 10:27 PM

Are other nut "butters" part of national cuisines elsewhere around the world? Cashew butter? Almond butter? Someone in Israel must have been doing that for thousands of years.

by Anonymousreply 66May 27, 2020 10:31 PM

Well, hazelnut butter appears to be quite common in other parts of the world.

by Anonymousreply 67May 27, 2020 10:33 PM

It’s a daily staple. I eat the kind with no sugar added by the spoonful.

by Anonymousreply 68May 27, 2020 10:33 PM

I was going to send roasted Virginia peanuts (Peanut Shop of Williamsburg, my favorite) to German and English cousins, and thought I'd check if that would be okay. We exchange gifts characteristic of our countries, so I've received such treasures as Marmite.) A German cousin who lives in England said please, no, because people in England find peanuts disgusting and thought of peanut "butter" made her feel ill.

(Fine, bitch, I thought, and kept it all for myself!)

by Anonymousreply 69May 27, 2020 10:49 PM

It sometime hits me that peanuts are not actually in the nut family, but is really a legume and it kinda freaks me out -- I'm eating mushed up pea things on bread.

by Anonymousreply 70May 27, 2020 11:11 PM

Disgusting. A brown sludge with the consistency of bad constipation, full of aflatoxins, fat, and sugar. I prefer Marmite/Bovril.

by Anonymousreply 71May 27, 2020 11:20 PM

sometimes I treat myself to a little bit of uncooked oatmeal mixed with extra chunky peanut butter and a tiny bit of crumbled dried honey. sprinkled with a tiny bit of salt. just eat it like cookie dough

by Anonymousreply 72May 27, 2020 11:35 PM

R46’s comment aged about as well one of the many pre-COVID comments along the lines of “Americans are giving up their cars and suburban lifestyles and moving into the city.”

In late March, peanut butter flew off the shelves so that it was all but unattainable in any form for quite a while … but the first to go were the comfort-food brands we grew up with – sweet, creamy, salty, fatty … mmm. The last to remain were the nasty, dry, “organic”, unsweetened and low-sodium brands.

by Anonymousreply 73May 27, 2020 11:59 PM

It's never really taken off in the UK. We're all about Marmite on toast.

If you served a peanut butter and jam sandwich to a child you'd probably be arrested for child abuse.

by Anonymousreply 74May 28, 2020 12:04 AM

I make my own peanut butter. It is easy to make and free from added sugar.

by Anonymousreply 75May 28, 2020 6:47 AM

Most Swiss don't care for peanut butter but we've been eating almond butter for nearly a century.

by Anonymousreply 76May 28, 2020 7:46 AM

As a Brit, peanut butter was difficult to find in the UK when I was young back in the Jurassic, but I loved the idea of it from American comics and shows and assumed I would love the thing itself, as I adored peanuts. Then I tasted some - utterly vile.

by Anonymousreply 77May 28, 2020 8:04 AM

Love it. Preferably crunchy and pref 100% made out of peanuts.

Am I they only one who finds the American peanutbutter and jelly sandwiches disgusting?

by Anonymousreply 78May 28, 2020 8:25 AM

Love the stuff. My supermarket has their own brand and for some reason, it’s tastier than the national brands.

I also love cookie butter like Biscoff’s.

by Anonymousreply 79May 28, 2020 9:13 AM

I hate peanut butter, but my partner uses it to make a Thai peanut sauce, and it's delicious.

by Anonymousreply 80May 28, 2020 10:19 AM

R80 Indonesian satay is very good as well

by Anonymousreply 81May 28, 2020 5:04 PM

R81, Thanks. I ask him to look into that.

by Anonymousreply 82May 28, 2020 5:08 PM

R14 I’m defying the rules to compliment you on the peanut butter and cherries. It’s the main course of my protein shakes. People turn up their nose. They don’t know.

Shamed, I say shamed American

by Anonymousreply 83May 28, 2020 5:12 PM

R73. The natural is all I buy. If you store upside down, the oil will work back into the solid.

by Anonymousreply 84May 28, 2020 5:15 PM

R84 or you can just use your knife to stir it.....that’s what I usually do with the 100% peanutbutter

by Anonymousreply 85May 28, 2020 5:40 PM

Many African countries love peanut butter. I just watched this cooking contest show on Netflix, and one of the contestants from Zimbabwe, incorporated peanut butter in her rice recipe.

by Anonymousreply 86May 28, 2020 5:40 PM

Yes r84. Unfortunately, I have to disguise it in my house to prevent objection.

by Anonymousreply 87May 28, 2020 5:53 PM
