Why did Kobe Bryant's wife stay with him after the rape allegations?

If she was just a gold digger, she could've just left him. They had a kid and no prenup.

The only reason I can think of is that she really was just "in love."

by Anonymousreply 81February 7, 2020 6:51 PM

Money. Same reason women always stay.

by Anonymousreply 1January 29, 2020 2:19 AM

I thought he bought her a $4 million diamond after the trial.

by Anonymousreply 2January 29, 2020 2:22 AM

R1 read the first sentence. If it was just the money, she could've just divorced his ass.

Current wife will always have more than ex wife R3. And it's not like he was Jeff Bezos, whose ex got more money than she can ever spend. Hell, Mackenzie Bezos could buy everything the Widow Bryant has today and not blink.

by Anonymousreply 5January 29, 2020 2:27 AM

She first met him when she was 17. It must have been love and great sex.

by Anonymousreply 6January 29, 2020 2:28 AM

[quote]On December 16, 2011, Vanessa Bryant filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences, and the couple requested joint custody of their daughters. On January 11, 2013, Bryant and his wife both announced via social media that they had called off their divorce.

by Anonymousreply 7January 29, 2020 2:32 AM

If she's a gold-digger, then her decision to stay a while longer sure paid off!

by Anonymousreply 8January 29, 2020 2:37 AM

I used to wonder about this. Why wouldn’t a woman just get the payout and go live somewhere and let herself get a little fat and stop having to do all the shit you have to do when you’re a gold digger?

It’s the loss of status. You’re no longer Mrs. Rockefeller. You don’t get invited to the parties anymore. You don’t get the deference and VIP treatment.

Personally? I wouldn’t care. But the really ambitious whores do.

by Anonymousreply 9January 29, 2020 2:41 AM

And again R9, unless you're Mrs. Bezos, the money probably isn't enough to live like a Queen the rest of your life.

by Anonymousreply 10January 29, 2020 2:43 AM

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

by Anonymousreply 11January 29, 2020 2:44 AM

He was worth upwards of $350 million, and she could’ve taken half. An ambulance was apparently called to the house once, because she had a mental breakdown after he cheated on her for the hundredth time (and this was before the rape allegations). I think that she really loved him. You see this quite a bit with Mexican women. They are loyal as fuck.

by Anonymousreply 12January 29, 2020 2:47 AM

R10 she would've gotten tens of millions, on top of child support, alimony, and potential book and interview deals.

Anyone who's not financially retarded would've been able to easily parlay all of that into a lifetime's worth of $$

by Anonymousreply 13January 29, 2020 2:48 AM

More than likely he had her sign a prenup.

by Anonymousreply 14January 29, 2020 2:49 AM

R14 they had no prenup.

by Anonymousreply 15January 29, 2020 2:50 AM

Money and kids... Probably had a big one, too.

by Anonymousreply 16January 29, 2020 2:50 AM

r15 they likely had one, just didn't say they did.

by Anonymousreply 17January 29, 2020 2:52 AM

[quote]She would've gotten tens of millions, on top of child support, alimony, and potential book and interview deals.

Praise Jebus. I get it all and still have three kids left.

For now.

by Anonymousreply 18January 29, 2020 2:52 AM

R14 they famously had no prenup but even so, a divorce probably would've involved some kind of NDA. Not to mention that R13's dream included a lot of hustle. Remaining his wife meant all she had to do was look the other way

by Anonymousreply 19January 29, 2020 2:53 AM

See link...fascinating story. Kobe said it was consensual. The accuser said it was assault. He was very abusive, almost violent toward her. Then after reporting this and it being investigated with very incriminating evidence against him, she decided not to testify against him in the criminal case, but the civil case went forward. They ended up settling, but the most she could receive was $2.5 million. We will never know, but she was already from a wealthy family.

In the end, Kobe said he was guilty of adultery.

From her injuries and the way he treated the accuser, he was clearly guilty of more than adultery.

by Anonymousreply 20January 29, 2020 3:19 AM

hmm, let's see:

she could have left and received whatever a judge decided was a fair settlement

or

she could stay and make his life miserable

by Anonymousreply 21January 29, 2020 3:42 AM

Maybe she wanted to wait until all their children are dead and then get a divorce, just like an old couple in the other thread.

by Anonymousreply 22January 29, 2020 3:50 AM

R18 "for now"? Planning on taking a page out of Mrs. Patsy Ramsey's book?

by Anonymousreply 23January 29, 2020 3:54 AM

Why the constant barrage of obsessive threads about Kobe Bryant, Jussie Smollett, Beyonce and Meghan Markle OP?

Oh that's right. You're a racist AND mentally ill.

by Anonymousreply 24January 29, 2020 3:57 AM

R24 this is the only thread I've ever created on Kobe, dumbfuck, and I've never created a thread on any of the other three you mentioned.

Go bleach your asshole.

by Anonymousreply 25January 29, 2020 4:01 AM

OP, the rape allegation happened two years into the marriage. Even without a prenup, I doubt she would have gotten more than $5 million, maybe a house. Kobe, today, is worth more than a half billion dollars.

by Anonymousreply 26January 29, 2020 4:08 AM

Kobe was hot. She loved him. They married so young he may have been the only guy she had slept with. That can be a big deal to a young girl. Remember- she was very young. To this day Kobe may have been the only one.

by Anonymousreply 27January 29, 2020 6:40 AM

Or maybe she thought she was nothing without him, which is always possible in a relationship that unequal. I mean he was this huge grownup star when they met and she was a teenager from an ordinary background, he was twice her size and had a billion times her earning power, maybe he told her that she'd be nothing from nowhere if she left.

Which is 100% speculation pulled out of my ass, but then, so is everything else on this thread.

by Anonymousreply 28January 29, 2020 6:55 AM

She hasn't been an attention seeking fame whore at all and apparently hates the Kardashians. I like her!

by Anonymousreply 29January 29, 2020 7:02 AM

If I remember correctly, his parents never liked her and were against the marriage. But he got her pregnant and went ahead with the wedding without a prenup.

Also weren't there stories about Vanessa being a total bitch to other people?

by Anonymousreply 30January 29, 2020 11:04 AM

Money and status was probably part of it but I also believe there was genuine love there. I didnt know them but used to see them out and about in Orange County and they seemed like a normal loving couple.

by Anonymousreply 31January 29, 2020 11:14 AM

A lot of women don't have as much problem with cheating as Dataloungers claim they do. Forgiving the straying husband is the straight's version of an open marriage, really. I think also a lot of non-famous women who marry celebrities or sports stars just assume it's going to happen and work with it.

by Anonymousreply 32January 29, 2020 11:20 AM

R32 speak for yourself. Quit trying to normalize cheating.

Cheating is a form of abuse and most women have a HUGE problem with it. But SOME women forgive the cheater because of finances (they think they can’t make it on their own) and the kids (they dint want to split up the family)

Kobe repeatedly cheated on Vanessa throughout their marriage. Their relationship was nothing to aspire to, except for the money. But if you google their name on LSA you’ll see their relationship was heavily criticized.

by Anonymousreply 33January 29, 2020 11:39 AM

I'm not a conservative frau who thinks cheating is a capital crime, R33. And no, I won't "google their name on LSA."

by Anonymousreply 34January 29, 2020 11:44 AM

Beacuse a woman that's smart does not leave her multi millionaire husband op.

by Anonymousreply 35January 29, 2020 11:53 AM

If she left him, then more likely than not there would have been a new Mrs. Kobe Bryant and new kids in the mix, and she and the first family would be second class citizens.

by Anonymousreply 36January 29, 2020 11:56 AM

[quote]But he got her pregnant and went ahead with the wedding without a prenup.

Actually, their first kid was born 3 years after they married.

by Anonymousreply 37January 29, 2020 11:58 AM

Lots of people make mistakes. Like any of you have ever cheated or been cheated on and not moved past it? Please. And I don’t think that was “rape rape” with that white thot. She just had morning after regret.

by Anonymousreply 38January 29, 2020 12:01 PM

R38, I think he did get a little too rough with her. I think she probably consented to sex but not to all the wild, kinky, choking type shit he was into.

by Anonymousreply 39January 29, 2020 12:23 PM

Is it possible she placed a hit on him as the ultimate revenge and threw in the child to redirect it away from her?

by Anonymousreply 40January 29, 2020 1:16 PM

No.

by Anonymousreply 41January 29, 2020 1:37 PM

She tried to leave but he choked her and raped her.

by Anonymousreply 42January 29, 2020 1:38 PM

R40 Doesn't seem likely to me but I guess nothing in this world is impossible. I know kids do develop an attitude from about 12-17 and tend to argue about nothing 24/7 but I highly, highly doubt it happened that way.

by Anonymousreply 43January 29, 2020 1:40 PM

[quote]But if you google their name on LSA you’ll see their relationship was heavily criticized.

Oh, well, that settles it.

by Anonymousreply 44January 29, 2020 1:44 PM

It is bad on the kids to break up their home. Better for the wife of a wealthy man to wait a few years for the kids to be out of high school and then take the cheating s.o.b. to the cleaners.

by Anonymousreply 45January 29, 2020 1:47 PM

My Mother once said this to me, (I'm paraphrasing) 'No one knows what goes on inside a marriage, except the two people who are in it' This is a place for gossip so OP's question is in bounds and the topic is up for discussion, but the truth is we can all look at someone else's marriage and make blanket statements based on what we see. But the truth is, we just don't know why two people stay together.

I've never been married, but all I hear from married people is that marriage is hard. So all we can do is speculate, but we'll never know the truth. DL seems to work in absolutes, but in the real world life is much more complicated. There are many sides to the same story. I don't think anyone would turn their life upside down based on a rape allegation. A conviction maybe, but not an allegation.

by Anonymousreply 46January 29, 2020 1:59 PM

The rape allegation was never proven so if we think we know everything they knew, we're kidding ourselves. We have 10% of the facts in public, probably. She could have been a strong woman who was determined her marriage should work, come what may. She could have preferred the financial security of being in rather than out. She could have chosen to stay for the kids and divorce later. It could have been a combination of all three. Look at Hillary Clinton. Was the decision to stay pure calculation? Only calculation? Probably not. We'll never know. R46 is the best answer on the thread.

by Anonymousreply 47January 29, 2020 2:08 PM

For a while Vanessa was notorious for yelling at L.A. reporters -- for legit media outlets -- who wrote things she didn't like.

And who's to say she wasn't getting her own side action when KB was on the road?!

by Anonymousreply 48January 29, 2020 2:09 PM

It would have taken a lot of determination to leave that kind of.....I'll say excitement. I'm sure it was extremely exciting being married to Kobe. Where was she goin'? Anyway it worked out for her, on balance. But she's got a heavy sadness now, poor woman. She's used to the money, that won't bring her much comfort.

by Anonymousreply 49January 29, 2020 2:13 PM

Clout - she isn't getting invites to the grammy's, oscars and John Legend's house if she isn't Bryant's wife. No free designer clothes, etc either.

by Anonymousreply 50January 29, 2020 2:18 PM

[quote] A lot of women don't have as much problem with cheating as Dataloungers claim they do. Forgiving the straying husband is the straight's version of an open marriage, really. I think also a lot of non-famous women who marry celebrities or sports stars just assume it's going to happen and work with it.

Except there is a huge number of divorces in the sports world because of infidelity. It's very common. Vanessa was a teenager when she married him and probably never developed mentally beyond 17.

by Anonymousreply 51January 29, 2020 2:18 PM

[quote] And I don’t think that was “rape rape” with that white thot. She just had morning after regret.

Hi Bill Cosby! How nice of you to post from prison.

by Anonymousreply 52January 29, 2020 2:21 PM

Vanessa Laine Bryant, according to Wikipedia, was born and raised in LA. She is Mexican, German, Irish and English.

His parents hate her. Didn't go to the wedding, weren,'t speaking at the time of death. Kobe had 2 sisters he was supporting till Vanessa put her foot down, and he cut them off. That was part of the motivation for auctioning off his high school memorabilia. a Joe Bryant, Kobe's father, accumulated a $5 million net worth in his own right as a basketball coach. Weird attitudes towards money.

Finally, at the time of his death KB's net worth was $800million. At retirement 3 years ago, it was $500 million. He would undoubtedly have become a multibillionaire if he had lived.

The Bryant's were all devout Catholics. May have been a factor in not divorcing. Vanessa Bryant was planning to try another pregnancy so as to have a boy.

by Anonymousreply 53January 29, 2020 2:38 PM

He also transferred the two houses he owned to her name only...And I do think they signed a post nup after they got back together.

You know he's probably insured for millions...

by Anonymousreply 54January 29, 2020 2:46 PM

Still, now she has to sort out his estate, which is probably quite complicated. Hope she was paying attention over the years, and has good, honest advisors.

by Anonymousreply 55January 29, 2020 3:01 PM

Kobe had a huge life insurance policy with my company- $20 million

by Anonymousreply 56January 29, 2020 3:12 PM

Motive!

by Anonymousreply 57January 29, 2020 3:13 PM

I would imagine he has a complicated will/trust arrangement. Who knows how much she actually gets and what is left to various foundations. If she gets a great big sum she can play the charitable doyenne role and maintain her social standing but I seriously doubt she got 800 M solid.

by Anonymousreply 58January 29, 2020 3:56 PM

Do not kid yourself R58. Now that he is dead, he is worth WAY More than $800M. Because now he is a martyr, a saint, and there will be grief money. ALl things Kobe will be memorialized and extra valuabl to crazed collectors.

That said, a life insurance policy of $20M? that is less than 3% of lowball estimates of his net worth.

by Anonymousreply 59January 29, 2020 4:48 PM

I love you, r57!

by Anonymousreply 60January 29, 2020 5:01 PM

R46, very intelligent and rational post. Makes a lot of sense.

How the hell did you get in here?

by Anonymousreply 61January 29, 2020 5:02 PM

Stop conflating asshole R59. Nothing in my post said anything about Kobe not being worth 800M.

My point is that Vanessa doesn't automatically get it all. There could be trusts for the kids. Bequests to any number of foundations. Hell, he could have even screwed her over and only given her the houses. Only his lawyers know. A man that rich will have made arrangements.

by Anonymousreply 62January 29, 2020 5:02 PM

California is a community property state. For the most part, anything that came into Kobe's ownership during his long marriage is also owned by his wife, now widow. He could afford the best financial planners, but they would still have to plan around that. If Kobe was worth $800 million at the time of his death, then his wife is, too.

by Anonymousreply 63January 29, 2020 9:11 PM

Vanessa's instagram is public now

by Anonymousreply 64January 29, 2020 9:15 PM

What an idiotic question.

Why, money of course.

by Anonymousreply 65January 29, 2020 9:18 PM

Vanessa, r64?

Oh, you mean the Widow Bryant.

by Anonymousreply 66January 29, 2020 9:21 PM

That's one tacky-ass house. It almost makes Vairst Leddy's apartment look tasteful.

by Anonymousreply 68January 29, 2020 9:54 PM

That's right, R68. When your husband has that kind of money, why throw it away???

by Anonymousreply 69January 29, 2020 9:56 PM

$he know$ why

by Anonymousreply 70January 29, 2020 10:20 PM

R67 beats the KTrash houses

by Anonymousreply 71January 29, 2020 11:45 PM

Kobe was no ugly old sugar daddy. He was (like Vanessa) young and hot, with a great body and probably a great fuck. (I mean that respectfully). He was a superstar and a multimillionaire and it was only the beginning. Kobe was (probably) very lovable. It would be very hard to give that up.

by Anonymousreply 72January 30, 2020 1:07 AM

How long before the mistresses come out of the woodwork?

by Anonymousreply 73January 30, 2020 1:18 AM

[quote] and probably a great fuck. (I mean that respectfully).

Is there a way to say that disrespectfully?

I’m just saying if someone described me as a great fuck, I’m lovin’ it.

by Anonymousreply 74January 30, 2020 9:08 AM

Great thread so far!! I hope we keep it going with some good gossip on “The Widow Bryant” and any/all Kobe family secrets!

Did Vanessa Bryant *really* make Kobe cut off his only 2 siblings (sisters) while she (and I’m assuming her extended family in L.A.) lived like kings and queens of the rest of their lives? If so, that sounds kind of bitchy, petty, and greedy....

by Anonymousreply 75January 30, 2020 11:00 AM

I apologize for any and all typos above^

by Anonymousreply 76January 30, 2020 11:02 AM

Not everything is about money. Even in America. Not all women are money obsessed shrews or whores. Maybe she loved him and was willing to forgive. Maybe she thought he would change his ways.

by Anonymousreply 77January 30, 2020 11:11 AM

Yeah, r77, like if he was poor with no job and living in the projects she wouldn’t have kicked his ass to the curb.

He's not a rapist, he's a philanderer! And he didn't rape that slutty opportunist. She bragged about fucking him. The case was dropped because she fucked some other dude the day AFTER she was allegedly "raped". He credibility went in the toilet and the defense was going to skewer her! She just wanted money from the beginning of her fraud.

Bryant's wife stayed, because she's no different than the rape accuser. Money hungry opportunist!

by Anonymousreply 80February 7, 2020 6:41 PM

Money Money MONEY. She was posting about Louboutins and shit before the deaths. Tacky house, materialistic bullshit. It all worked out for her. The cheating husband is gone and it's all hers. Sad she lost the daughter though. I bet she's more sad about that loss.
