R14 Payne Stewart’s death was spooky. On October 25, 1999, Stewart was killed in the crash of a Learjet flying from his home in Orlando, Florida, to Texas for the year-ending tournament, The Tour Championship, held at Champions Golf Club in Houston. The NTSB investigators concluded that the aircraft failed to pressurize and that all on board died due to hypoxia as the aircraft passed to the west of Gainesville, Florida. The aircraft continued flying on autopilot until it ran out of fuel and crashed into a field near Mina, South Dakota.

Contrary to popular belief , Pier Angeli didn't kill herself. She died from a heart attack induced by too heavy medication/pain killers consecutive to a plane crash in which she had her pelvis and BOTH legs crushed. She couldn't walk for many years hence the hiatus in her film career. At the time of her death she had just been signed by Coppola for the Godfather and was a the brink of a major come-back. Her son asked the media to stop the ' suicide over James Dean ' fraufiction BS. Girl was not stupid. Wouldn't have killed herself after 20 years over a smelly cumdump human ashtray that she was forced to beard to by the studio. So technically she died because of a plane crash.

And speaking of Puerto Rico, almost it’s entire women’s volleyball team and coaches perished in an air crash on February 1970.
The only survivor was their team captain who returned to Puerto Rico a day earlier to prepare for a big banquet organized for them. The last picture in the clip is the most powerful one, showing the team captain sitting all by herself amidst the team’s empty seats.

Some were devastating, like the figure skating team, as those deaths did in fact impact US figure skating talent noticeably. Some were eerie, like Payne Stewart, in which the plane flew on autopilot full of dead people until it ran out of full and was escorted to the ground (I recited that form memory, I hope I have the details correct). I think JFK, Jr qualifies as most shocking, similar to Kobe’s.

I'd get top billing. Judy Garland dies in plane crash. For other deceased see Section B, page 18.
What are we doing flying around in airplanes for one thing? Even the birds don't go up that high. We just don't belong. We have to buckle ourselves in and hope. And there's no hope and no oxygen. Now we don't belong up there. You KNOW we don't belong up there.
I have to make friends with the pilot and give his children my autograph, whereupon he tells me that his children are just as important to him as my life as... Forget it! His life isn't NEARLY important as my life is to me. Shear selfishness, I don't really care about anybody but me.

Z grade exploitation film-maker Michael Findlay was killed in a helicopter accident on the roof of the Pan Am Building in New York city. On his way to John F Kennedy airport he was planning to demonstrate his new 3-D camera to potential backers in France. Findlay and three other passengers were about to board the helicopter when its landing support collapsed. The helicopter fell onto one side and its spinning rotor blades decapitated Findlay and killed three other passengers. A woman on the street below was also killed when she was hit by a detached rotor blade from the helicopter.
He started his film career making "roughies" B&W tits and ass movies of the 60's and moved on to hardcore gay porn and horror movies. One weird co-incidence is he starts his epic "Shriek of The Mutilated, with himself be decapitated and directed an early porn called "Take My Head".

R142 JFK Jr was reported missing at night. They were waiting for him to come in, then searching for them. There was hope for hours that maybe they had gone down over water and survived the crash. Obviously that did not happen, but you kind of had time to accept the possibility that there was not going to be good news. It was a gradual acceptance, whereas with Kobe- there was never time to hope. The news was more jarring. Not that the gradual loss of hope was much better.

Former Alaska Senator Ted Stevens was one of five people killed when an turbine engine, float equipped Otter crashed into steep terrain during a flight from nearby Lake Nerka to a fishing lodge in the Dillingham, Alaska area. The pilot and four passengers, including Stevens, were killed, and four other passengers were injured. One of the survivors was former NASA administrator Sean O'Keefe.
This was not the first fatal plane crash in Alaska involving Senator Stevens. In December 1978, the Senator was one of two survivors of a fatal crash of a Learjet in Anchorage, Alaska. Both pilots and three other passengers, including the Senator's first wife, were killed in the crash

Notice the eviscerating of (or disembodied) internal organs, due to high impact. These photos aren’t worse than the 9/12 jumpers, however. The people who jumped to their deaths from the Twin Towers looked like broken watermelons.
I’d rather go out fast than slow. Terrible way to die, but I’ve witnessed slow deaths, and it’s very uncomfortable for the person dying. Not that I have any say in the matter, but if I had to choose, I’d choose quick and painless.

WASHINGTON, Aug. 3 — Richard D. Obenshain, the Republican candidate for United States Senator in the current Virginia campaign, died late last night when his small plane crashed and burned while approaching an airport southwest of Richmond. The pilot and another occupant of the plane also were killed.
Mr. Obenshain's death deprived the conservative wing of the Republican Party of a young leader who had already reached national prominence, and it brought sudden confusion and uncertainty to the Senate election.
The 42-year-old Mr. Obenshain, a former co‐chairman of the Republican National Committee, was returning from a campaign appearance to his home in Chesterfield, Va., when his plane crashed. All three occupants of the craft were burned beyond recognition when it exploded in a wooded area four miles from the airport.
