Every time I saw her she was diligent and happily working and she would address me by name. Does the columnist think it matters if we all lived as he does? They would still hate us. The only reason some gay people are barely tolerated is that if they erase as much of their "gayness" as they can (no PDA, no discussion of their real private lives, etc...) they can be as invisible as heterosexuals want and are comfortable with. We can be clowns to laugh at, but to be taken seriously as real people with real-life issues and concerns is threatening to them; it weakens their grasp of their concept of heterosexuality as being a duty, biological imperative, and religious obligation, as opposed to simply being attracted to the opposite sex and letting nature run its course. You notice they rarely mention their supposed natural opposite sex attraction. It's usually some rant about the abdication of gender roles and going against a particular god's will. The bottom line is...they do not want us to exist. They still think the worst of you because you are not straight. If the laws were not in place, they may put someone like the columnist in the camps last, but he's going in.

No, Palumbo didn’t encounter hordes of people who were here for MAL - MidAtlantic Leather Weekend. The event happens at one hotel near Capitol Hill and assorted club / bar venues around the city.

Unless you are around those locations, you wouldn’t have a clue this was going on. Plus it is always MLK weekend, so the city is relatively empty.

The notion that this series of events will set back gay rights is absurd and ridiculous. First, this has been going on for decades. The same decades in which we won all these rights. No one cared. They still don’t. Second, you would have to voluntarily place yourself at one of the events to see what’s going on. Most gays don’t do that, so it’s unlikely most straights know or care. Third, straights have their own events that cater to their fetishes. I don’t know and don’t want to know who participates among my straight friends. But, I certainly don’t hold it against all straights because some do.
