The case count and death toll from a new coronavirus in China continued to climb Wednesday (Jan. 22) as officials stepped up efforts to control the spread of the virus.
There are now 440 confirmed cases and 17 deaths linked to the virus in China, according to the BBC. That's up from around 300 cases and six deaths reported just yesterday (Jan. 21).
Chinese officials also advised people not to travel into or out of Wuhan, the city where the outbreak originated, the BBC reported.

Fun facts From the WHO: According to China national statistics bureau, about 890 million people died each year. So in average, there are 2.4 million people die in China each day.
I heard that you have natural immunity if you've already had the corollavirus, since their structure is similar.

17 death out of 440 cases is not exactly a staggering morality rate. Roughly the same as the regular flu. The causes of death seem to be complication from the virus e.g. the onset of pneumonia. There's no information about the people who have died. My guess would be that many of the were elderly or people with per-existing conditions. I'm not saying this isn't serious, but I think the media is being highly alarmist....though we should be surprised ;)

Just to put our flu-jitters in perspective ,the Center for Disease Control estimates between October 2019 and January 11.2020 at least 6,600 Americans have died of the regular various flu viruses.
