Senate Democrats privately mull Biden-for-Bolton trade in impeachment trial
[quote]Several Senate Democrats are privately discussing the possibility of calling Republicans’ bluff on witnesses, weighing an unusual trade in President Trump’s impeachment trial: the testimony of Hunter Biden for the testimony of a key administration official.
[quote]These Democrats said they believe having Hunter — or possibly Joe Biden — testify could backfire on Trump and the GOP, giving Biden and the party a platform to strike back and paint Republicans and the White House as obsessed with trying to damage one of Trump’s 2020 presidential rivals.

Absolutely not. That would give the Republicans the chance to do further smears and it would reaffirm the Republican view that Biden has something to do with this.
Moreover, Bolton is a Republican ass-kisser from way back. He may privately say some shit, may even put it in a book this year, but he is unlikely to offer anything substantial in this venue. He'll dodge, evade, and "I don't recall" all day long.

All of Hunter's corrupt practices are going to go out during the election anyway.

R3 what corruption? He didn’t do anything wrong.

No. We already know what the outcome of this trial is going to be. They could have video evidence and it still wouldn't matter. This Senate is not going to remove him from office. Trump has been impeached. He will always be an impeached president, he will never remove that stain from his legacy. Let's be happy with that and get out the vote in November. Hunter Biden is a mess, but he did nothing wrong. To have him testify just plays into republican hands and weakens the only candidate that beats Trump in the very few states that are going to to elect that next president.

The Bidens should have nothing to hide. Here’s their chance to show the entire country that the Republicans don’t really have anything on them. If they can’t pass this test, then Joe can’t be the nominee.
Like R1 said: bring it on.

They should because Biden didn't do anything other than some nepotism. They should do whatever they have to for witnesses, although I doubt Bolton or any Dem will tell the real truth about the orange POS.

I can’t decide, but the arguments against seem slightly more convincing then the argument in favor.

Bolton would never be allowed to testify by the Republicans if there was anything truly damaging to President Trump. Therefore given Joe’s propensity for sticking his foot in his mouth the trade with him testifying seems ludicrous.

I agree with r1 and r8. I think the Dems should have pushed this from the start. To me, it would be a gangster move at this point to offer Biden.
The American people will soon view this as a huge waste of time if these senators are just going through the motions of the trial. The Dems candidates are losing precious time on the campaign trail anyway. You might as well put all your cards on the table.

Bolton is the mother of all warmongers. He will never be satisfied until he has initiated WWIII. He's extremely disgruntled that there currently is no war.

Oh please, wishful thinking. The Repugs want this trial over ASAP. If you call anyone, they need time to find a lawyer, set up depositions, etc. Even at super hyper speed that would be at least a week extension before he could even come in. 2 weeks would even be hyper fast. They don't want it to drag on that long. Not going to happen.
