I know it should be glamorous but since you bitches clicked into the thread to tell me, now put your choice down

I can't think of anyone as glamorous as Miss Ross. She truly is the poster child for that.
Sophia Loren and Catherine Deneuve are pretty glamorous too.
Seems like younger generations completely lack it.

Joan Crawford

Yep, R2, drag queens are the only glamour for young 'uns. We Elder Gays remember the true queens: Tyrone Power and Cary Grant were the most glamorous that come to mind...

Catherine Deneauve.

I actually think Diana is disgusting after I found out about this

Diana Ross is one of my faves. She’s perfect for evening wear iconography.
Day wear belongs to Jackie O.

Lens Dunham, natural glamour at its most woke

Madonna- a modern, cutting/hacked up edge glamour

Elizabeth Taylor in her prime. Men? Cary Grant.

Marlene. The first, the last, the everything.. copied by everyone . The emeralds in those bracelets in this picture are real. No one knows how she acquired them. They are believed to have been part of the Russian royal Jewels. Look at the size of those fuckers. And there was more.

Women who cast glamours? I think of Goody Good, and Goody Obsorn.

Nancy Cunard--when the ivory bracelets intermingled with her perspiration, they smelled like semen.

Here is my partial list:
Babe Paley - effortless
Jackie O. - "Age cannot wither her"
Diana Ross - iconic
Billie Holiday - a muse of tragedy
Josephine Baker - Art Deco on the hoof
Lauren Bacall - cool
Barbara Stanwyck - a killer
Greta Garbo - silence was golden
Lauren Hutton - hip, iconoclastic
Audrey Hepburn - waif
Veronica Lake - sphinx
Dovima - an overlooked legend
To me true glamour must evade, somehow, camp - and that's why it's the hardest thing to pull off. The women I listed I think always avoided it. There was no winking, nothing funny about their look or style - and nothing overwrought or overplayed. Plenty of fabulous, beautiful and amazingly talented women (like Cher, for example) have never really possessed glamour - which (to me, anyway) consists of a kind of ability to play it as if there was truly nothing else.
This level of glamour has disappeared, perhaps forever and perhaps rightly - it's been replaced by the all-too-human approach, which, while annoying, is human - which glamour is not.

Norma Shearer
Liz Taylor
Ava Gardner
Lana Turner
Joan Collins
Cher
Michelle Obama
Princess Diana
Ingrid Bergman
Greta Garbo /young

Women like Babe Paley and Jackie O were elegant, tasteful, but not glamorous.
Barbara Stanwyck, Greta Garbo...no way....they were too down-to-earth to be glamorous.
Diana Ross was glamorous only on stage as a Supreme. Cher too, was only glamorous when she was playing the character of Cher.
For me, true glamour was Joan Crawford, Marlene Dietrich they were "on" 24/7. Every element, clothing, hair, make-up, speech, movement was curated.
And Grace Jones to me is glamorous.
Glamour must have an over-the-top quality and of course it can be seen as camp.

And [italic]Diana Ross[/italic] was one of your choices???
by Anonymous | reply 35 | February 4, 2020 6:05 AM |
[R35] Yes - I realize she is borderline, but she brought a sense of hauteur and physicality to what she did that made her style untouchable.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | February 4, 2020 6:13 AM |
[R34] - interesting - I had thought I listed Grace Jones and not doing so was an oversight - I think she is one of the most glamorous people who ever lived.
I'm not sure men - gay or straight - can be glamorous.

Selena Gomez is becoming a strikingly beautiful woman.

Susan Dey has always been a classic beauty. Age has only deepened her exquisite features and inner glow.

Black don’t crack, even if crack will always be wack. Whitney has a very relaxed, eternal glow about her. The undertaker, I mean she has obviously undertaken some plastic surgery. However, she has allowed her self to drown in a tub of bad plastic surgery- like others celebrities. She may have gone underground in recent years, but her beauty still remains timeless.
