Plantar Warts — ICK!!!

What’s the best way to get rid of one, besides going to a doctor?

by Anonymousreply 36January 20, 2020 1:56 AM

Whatever you do, DO NOT watch plantar wart removal videos on YouTube

by Anonymousreply 1January 18, 2020 1:02 PM

A blowtorch -- it's your only hope.

by Anonymousreply 2January 18, 2020 1:05 PM

I got my first one in junior high school. In the 1970's. So I have a lot of experience with them.

It is easy enough to knock them back a bit. Any over the counter product with do that. Getting entirely rid of them is trickier.

The best success I have had is with apple cider vinegar. Scrub the affected area with apple cider vinegar and a loofah. Soak an adhesive pad with apple cider vinegar, squeeze it out a bit, then tape it to the affected area. Not just the wart, but the surrounding area, too. An inch or two larger than the area where the wart or warts have appeared. Put a clean cotton sock over it and go to bed.

In the morning, remove it. Wash your foot. You will see the skin has been affected by the acid in the vinegar, but in my experience, the change is not drastic. Repeat this entire process for several more nights. It will only take a few nights. Three or four. The acid will kill the skin around the wart. One morning, the difference will be much more noticeable and the dead skin will slough off. When it does, the warts go with it.

The last time I did this, several of them had popped up in one small area, about the size of a quarter. That was five years ago. If you only put the vinegar on your foot for one night at a time, your foot gets a break for the rest of the day. It never gets really painful. Some of the over the counter remedies can be very painful.

Good luck.

R3 Is correct, ACV.

by Anonymousreply 4January 18, 2020 1:32 PM

Vinegar is acidic, and it works for precisely that reason. But if you get any on the skin as opposed to the wart, you are gonna burn your skin off.

by Anonymousreply 5January 18, 2020 2:01 PM

Plantar warts are a sign of poor immune function

by Anonymousreply 6January 18, 2020 2:02 PM

I've read that putting duct tape over them essentially smothers and kills them. I have no idea if this actually works.

by Anonymousreply 7January 18, 2020 2:10 PM

That's the point, R5.

But some acids are milder than others. That's why I specified apple cider vinegar and only for a few days.

by Anonymousreply 8January 18, 2020 2:18 PM

Are you showering at the gym without wearing flip flops OP? Or anything like that?

by Anonymousreply 9January 18, 2020 3:32 PM

Don't answer that, OP. R9 is gunning for you!

by Anonymousreply 10January 18, 2020 3:32 PM

Sorry, no. My point was, if you are doing that that is probably why you have plantar warts.

by Anonymousreply 11January 18, 2020 3:37 PM

There's the duct tape trick. It has to be Duct Tape brand tape. There is a chemical in the adhesive that causes the wart to die. Works best if you are wearing sox and shoes all day. Takes about a week of 24/7 duct tape adhered to the wart,. My friend did it and it worked. I on the other hand have only had success with a Pulse Dye Laser at a dermatologists office. I've done it twice. The warts never returned.

by Anonymousreply 12January 18, 2020 3:38 PM

Get one of those foot soak basins, fill it with molecular acid, and bathe your feet in it for about fifteen minutes. Problem solved!

by Anonymousreply 13January 18, 2020 3:38 PM

"Molecular acid" is a tautology. All acids are made from molecular compounds or groups of various active molecules.

by Anonymousreply 14January 18, 2020 3:52 PM

Only thing that has ever worked for me are those freezing kits.

People who suggest apple cider vinegar to remove stuff like warts and moles neglect to mention that you will reek like hell when doing so.

by Anonymousreply 15January 18, 2020 4:07 PM

Red magma works too, r13

by Anonymousreply 16January 18, 2020 5:26 PM

We used to all get them on swim team. One of mine literally did not go away for 25 years. I kid you not. It never got bigger and then one day it just disappeared a couple of years ago. Most bizarre thing ever.

by Anonymousreply 17January 18, 2020 5:45 PM

warts are caused by a virus. So they can go away on their own. I had over 20 warts on my hands as a kid. They were so embarrassing. When I started puberty they disappeared. To this day i have a phantom sensation that they are still there.

by Anonymousreply 18January 18, 2020 7:04 PM

I haven’t had one in many years, but just this morning noticed one. Bastard!! And I’m getting ready to go on a beach vacation next week!

by Anonymousreply 19January 18, 2020 7:46 PM

R14 = google scholar who didn’t get the reference

by Anonymousreply 20January 19, 2020 12:52 AM

Warts are caused by the HPV virus. So they don't go away, they go into remission.

[quote]But some acids are milder than others. That's why I specified apple cider vinegar and only for a few days.

And apple cider vinegar is highly acidic. This is WHY it works. You need to be extra careful with that. You can get bad burns on areas other than the wart. It is literally burning the wart with its acid.

I had a wart when I was a child on my finger. I just cut it out with a nail clipper. It hurt and bled a lot but it went right away and healed quickly.

by Anonymousreply 21January 19, 2020 8:53 AM

I’ve picked them away with cuticle nippers before. You have to get the “root”. I also have lots of miles on my face, so I figure I’m a lovely host for those kinds of things. As long as cancer doesn’t like me, it’s all good.

Apple cider vinegar is a good cheap remedy. I find the salicylic acid stuff to be more harsh.

by Anonymousreply 22January 19, 2020 9:09 AM

^^ moles. Moles on my face.

They’re gross.

by Anonymousreply 23January 19, 2020 9:10 AM

This is, without a shadow of a doubt, the most “Foxfire” thread ever on DL, nutloafers included.

I once had a plantar wart. It was diagnosed and cut out by a country doctor who was at least 75. I remember him sticking the needle in for the anesthesia as the song below came on the local AM station being broadcast into the the room..

I don’t know that I’d ever heard it before, but it made an indelible impression on me. I still sing the chorus of it to myself, apropos of nothing.

A potato peeler and a good flick of the wrist like you are removing an eye...

by Anonymousreply 25January 19, 2020 9:33 AM

Compound W. Takes a while.

by Anonymousreply 26January 19, 2020 9:35 AM

Dr Scholl’s wart freezer. It’s always worked for me, although some warts needed multiple treatments.

by Anonymousreply 27January 19, 2020 9:43 AM

Get the Gardasil vaccine. If you have decent insurance they will pay for it even if you are over the recommended age. It protects against many but not all forms of HPV. It's a 3 part vaccine over about 6 months time.

by Anonymousreply 28January 19, 2020 11:27 AM

^Recommended by my podiatrist as a prophylactic measure against future plantar warts.

by Anonymousreply 29January 19, 2020 11:29 AM

Duct tape, it works and works well. The thing just fell out after 10 days and never came back.

by Anonymousreply 30January 19, 2020 11:46 AM

I had two for a while and then summer started. A super hot day walking through the most blazingly uncomfortable sand dunes and they were gone within days.

by Anonymousreply 31January 19, 2020 11:52 AM

I’ll second the Dr. Scholl’s method. While using it, get a pumice stone and scrub the heck out of the skin around the wart when you’re in the shower. The wart remover loosens the skin and the pumice gets rid of it. I had to do two cycles of the wart remover but the damn wart is gone.

by Anonymousreply 32January 19, 2020 12:03 PM

When I was a 12 year old little savage, I had a lot of them because I went through the whole house and garden barefoot. The pharmacy stuff didn't work so I just dug them out with a needle and a razor blade. It worked and they didn't come back.

by Anonymousreply 33January 19, 2020 12:18 PM

R24 WTF is a Foxfire thread?

by Anonymousreply 34January 19, 2020 4:26 PM

r28

Plantar warts are not prevented by inoculation with HPV vaccines because the warts are caused by different strains of HPV. Gardasil protects against strains 6, 11, 16, and 18, and Cervarix protects against 16 and 18, whereas plantar warts are caused by strains 1, 2, 4, and 63.

by Anonymousreply 35January 19, 2020 5:12 PM
