It's the most harmful, steaming pile of misinformation in the country and responsible for so much damage. How do we defeat it?
How do we bury FOX News?

Thank you for asking this. We need a coalition, and we need to do this. Murdoch is now trying to establish "The Sun" in the U.S., God help us. Do we go after advertisers? The family? The editors? Let's get a strategy.

Why couldn't we have "Fox Fridays" and protest at every Fox station. I live in NY and am often tempted to hold up signs outside their studio, but I fear reprisal. When you protest in NY, sometimes it feels like there are more people recording you than supporting you.

I think it involves going after the advertisers, and commenting to intimates asking them not to watch it. My sister has drunk the cool aide and rolls her eyes, so it’s too late for that. I don’t speak to her much. Not because she has a different opinion, but because she can’t stop talking about it, and after a long time, I have simply had it with repeated insults and embarrassments.
I agree that it’s crucial. They whipped-up Benghazi and emails into the Dreyfus Affair, followed that with the election of Trump, a real criminal, traitor, and complete moron.

Exactly. Eldergays on DL think we're still living in the 1990s, when everyone got all of their news from TV. Deplorables in their 60s and 70s may watch Fox News all day. But younger deplorables today aren't getting most of their news from Fox. They're getting it from an assortment of right-wing conspiracy websites and social media. Eliminating Fox News will only drive its viewers to sites on the web that are even scarier.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | January 17, 2020 12:12 AM |
Their most popular show, Sean Hannity, has Lindsey Graham appearing almost every night.
Think about it. Maybe other networks need to outbid Fox for Lindsey appearances.
Apparently, there's something about Lindsey that makes anchors and reporters tingle.

Younger deplorables -- like most young voters -- are full of hot air. I'm not trying to sound ageist in either direction, but older deplorables are far more dangerous because they a). always vote and b). have more money and resources to donate towards political causes. I think eliminating -- or at least neutralizing --one of the main sources where they get spoonfed their news could only be an improvement on what we currently have now.

My dad is addicted to Fox, I think it's too late to turn these people around. You could cut Fox News today and they would find a place to congregate because there is no turning back. My dad and his friends are big petition and letter writers, you will never hear the end of it. You've got to wait until they all die off.
Also, some of my dad's (he is early 80's) friends get their info from Reddit, QAnon and those sites, my dad doesn't do internet but he gets printouts of all that crap because some of the elderly learn the internet from their grandkids.

The next Dem President should place the Fox reporter in the back of the briefing room, with the other tabloids, or banish them completely. Don’t give them questions. Also, direct all executive branch members not to give interviews to fox employees.
What we have today isn’t working. Bill O’Reilly’s interview with Pres. Obama was a real disgrace. He interrupted to try to get the Pres. mad. He asked the Pres., “what’s it like to be hated”, and was really rude about it. Obama should have said, “we’ll you tell me, you have more experience with it”, and with a smile!

[quote] R55: Reinstate the “Fairness Doctrine” law. Problem solved.
I think it’s too late for that, but maybe limiting the opinion to news ratio to 10% on news channels, and vice-versa. Basically, separate opinion from news somehow. Maybe have a scroll bar, at least? Fox’s opinions are often disguised as news.

I waited a decade for my nephew to ask my opinion, and then I unloaded. Despite my listing numerous examples of lies they promoted, he still watches it.
My elderly brother responded to that by saying “they all do that”. I said, “So, instead of turning it off, or finding another source, you knowingly listen to a network that lies to you, because it’s the lies you want to hear?” The answer is “yes”.
There’s no easy fix for that. But I believe Fox is worse than Trump. It’s the root of the problem.

I hate to tell you this, unless it's in countries like China which the government can shut it down, otherwise there is no way you can stop it, especially FOXNEWS is a financial success too, the parent company NEWSCORP has no reason to change its winning formula, they might even double it down in the election year to generate more profit. Of course it will be a different story if FOXNEWS is losing money for them but I don't see that happening any time soon.

Read R47 again. The Fairness Doctrine and other FCC regulations regarding TV content never applied to cable networks, only to broadcast (over-the-air) TV that uses the public airwaves (ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, local channels). The government doesn't have the authority to regulate the content of cable networks. Giving that power to the government would never survive a court challenge.

by Anonymous | reply 84 | January 17, 2020 3:56 PM |
Hey R62, greetings from R61.
I agree with you. The focused targeted campaigns (In my opinion) seem to be more effective and create negative press for FOX NEWS and for individual anchors than an overall boycott.
I think such a tactic not only worked against Bill O'Reilly, but also for a while Laura Ingraham and Jeanine Pirro. Their statements or behavior or hate speech has to circulated widely and result in a boycott of a few of those anchor's sponsors.
I think if one of these anchors is targeted and a few people call the sponsors to complain, they sometimes get suspended or removed.
