Most of what JD says is just for effect - to get people talking, tweeting, and posting. He thrives on controversy and drama. It gets people interested and then they watch his videos / buy his products. He alternates drama with sincerity (in his videos) that gets people to want to support him. I mean, his most recent video about his break-up got 29 million views in 5 days - he knows what he is doing. His make-up is apparently good quality and he does a ton of make-up reviews that people watch. These days he pretty much lives on redbull.
