Started watching this, and couldn’t stop, very riveting stuff. They did at least do some exploration of his gay relationships, so there wasn’t any glossing over that. One of the biggest misconceptions regarding abuse is the cause and effect relationship between abuse and being gay.

Being abused doesn't make you gay. Being gay makes it more likely that you will be targeted for abuse.

This documentary was heartbreaking all the way around. Hours after watching it, I can't get it out of my mind.

I don't have a lot of sympathy for Hernandez, although I do think his CTE exacerbated what was already a borderline sociopathic personality. I think his life began spiraling when his father died. His mother was obviously weak, and Hernandez turned to the wrong woman as a mother figure. From there, there was no return.

You do have to wonder if Hernandez had grown up in a loving, supportive environment and had been comfortable with his sexuality whether his life may have taken a very different path.

I did appreciate that the documentary didn't give short shrift to Hernandez's victims and their families. Their stories were even more tragic than Hernandez's.

For me, one of the most touching and sad moments was when they announced Robert Kraft's arrival to testify at Hernandez's trial. I watched this doc today and I'm a mess. Tragic on so many levels. Yes, he was a closeted bi guy, but that does not explain the violence. When watching the Netflix doc I was struck by what a talented athlete he was, a big guy, good hands but super nimble. Sad story-- for him and those he killed.
