by Anonymous | reply 5 | January 15, 2020 2:36 AM |
I wouldn't mind the next 20 minutes of just everyone on stage bashing the fuck out of that ugly fat demonic orange walking turd
by Anonymous | reply 6 | January 15, 2020 2:36 AM |
is this it?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | January 15, 2020 2:36 AM |
Tom Steyer looks like the Quaker Oats man.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | January 15, 2020 2:36 AM |
This robot chick moderator is incredible! Who is she?
by Anonymous | reply 9 | January 15, 2020 2:37 AM |
Thanks for part 2, OP
by Anonymous | reply 10 | January 15, 2020 2:37 AM |
I know. I agree with Amy and still she gets on my nerves.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | January 15, 2020 2:38 AM |
Amy doing a mike check! She’s not wrong though.

by Anonymous | reply 13 | January 15, 2020 2:38 AM |
Yes Liz remind everyone how corrupt Trump admin is
by Anonymous | reply 14 | January 15, 2020 2:38 AM |
Is steyer a daddy?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | January 15, 2020 2:38 AM |
THEY NEVER ASK ABOUT FEDERAL JUDGES
by Anonymous | reply 16 | January 15, 2020 2:39 AM |
Only a few posters have mentioned Bernie..Random groups of voters watching live think Bernie is slamming the rest of them. Yet of all the whopping six of you shilling here tonite scarcely a whisper of Mr Sanders. Is DL in denial as you were in 2016? Because Sanders is not going away.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | January 15, 2020 2:39 AM |
I thought we already did climate?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | January 15, 2020 2:39 AM |
Pete has pretty much blended into the wallpaper. Even Steyer had more moments so far. Amy's doing pretty well too.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | January 15, 2020 2:39 AM |
not just this administration. the entire Republican Party. Somebody mention that. The cover up, the whoring, the grifting goes to the bone of this fucked up political party.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | January 15, 2020 2:39 AM |
Hell yes r15
by Anonymous | reply 21 | January 15, 2020 2:39 AM |
Climate change is a losing issue.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | January 15, 2020 2:40 AM |
it's quite unfair how Sanders had a heart attack and his numbers went up
Hillary had a coughing fit and her life expectancy was questioned
by Anonymous | reply 23 | January 15, 2020 2:40 AM |
I just don’t like Bernie. He’s tiresome to listen too. I miss “no drama Obama.”
by Anonymous | reply 24 | January 15, 2020 2:40 AM |
TORNADOES.MADEOF.F-EYE-ER.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | January 15, 2020 2:40 AM |
Amy is not doing well, she's rambling and has zero energy.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | January 15, 2020 2:40 AM |
I'm the one that said Bernie should get a Nobel Peace Prize for Sincerity. Commitment. Ideas, r17.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | January 15, 2020 2:41 AM |
This moderator is so over this debate and needs to get back to the mall!
by Anonymous | reply 28 | January 15, 2020 2:41 AM |
We heard you at 614 on the old thread, shill at R17
by Anonymous | reply 29 | January 15, 2020 2:41 AM |
she knows it's over. it's just the top four now.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | January 15, 2020 2:41 AM |
Resting bitch face
by Anonymous | reply 31 | January 15, 2020 2:41 AM |
When did we start using the category "black and brown Americans"
its sounds horrible. Like they are bruised.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | January 15, 2020 2:41 AM |
Robot moderator is back. Wtf!
by Anonymous | reply 33 | January 15, 2020 2:41 AM |
I was that little applause
by Anonymous | reply 34 | January 15, 2020 2:42 AM |
You would think Klobuchar is the frontrunner by the amount of facetime she gets on these debates.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | January 15, 2020 2:42 AM |
R3 Because that worked so well in 2016
by Anonymous | reply 36 | January 15, 2020 2:42 AM |
who are the brown people? Aren't almost all black americans brown? Very few dark black americans. This is a black person.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | January 15, 2020 2:42 AM |
Tom is ACCOUNTABLE BISH!
Your plot failed, you little munchkin
by Anonymous | reply 38 | January 15, 2020 2:43 AM |
I don’t like this business about declaring an emergency on day 1. It sounds like Hitler’s Enabling Act, though I know it isn’t, but let’s just not panic. Making it priority 1 is fine.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | January 15, 2020 2:43 AM |
R36 talking about impeachment in 2016? huh?
by Anonymous | reply 40 | January 15, 2020 2:43 AM |
[quote]Because Sanders is not going away.
Yes we know. When he loses the primaries, he keeps campaigning for himself and never fucking goes away.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | January 15, 2020 2:43 AM |
Brown in this case means largely Hispanics.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | January 15, 2020 2:44 AM |
Any and all "on day 1" is boilerplate dreck.
Understand this.
Look.
Let me tell you, folks.
Day 1
by Anonymous | reply 43 | January 15, 2020 2:44 AM |
do hispanics want to be called "brown"?
by Anonymous | reply 44 | January 15, 2020 2:45 AM |
for the Russians here, I know you've never seen one, but Black people aren't literally "Black". Hope this helps.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | January 15, 2020 2:45 AM |
Amy threw staplers at women staffers. How is she still on the stage?
by Anonymous | reply 46 | January 15, 2020 2:45 AM |
careful with the fracking issue, Amy! Susan Sarandon will publicly disparage you if you don't word it her way
by Anonymous | reply 47 | January 15, 2020 2:45 AM |
R24 BREAKING: Obama not running in 2020
by Anonymous | reply 48 | January 15, 2020 2:45 AM |
Bernie’s suits from Kmart or what?
by Anonymous | reply 49 | January 15, 2020 2:46 AM |
Let's be clear!
by Anonymous | reply 50 | January 15, 2020 2:46 AM |
This moderator is soooo fucking annoying.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | January 15, 2020 2:46 AM |
Also, putinistas, Warren won the debate, and Trump will lose the election. Please report to your masters accordingly.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | January 15, 2020 2:46 AM |
[quote]When did we start using the category "black and brown Americans"
It's a way to reference African-Americans and Latinos but exclude Asians (or any other minority) for situations where that is needed.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | January 15, 2020 2:46 AM |
I’m beige. Beige is a color, too.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | January 15, 2020 2:46 AM |
Let's be clear. Look. Let me tell you folks.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | January 15, 2020 2:46 AM |
r35 Warren has gotten the most time of all the candidates. She always gets the most time at the debates. The moderators need to cut her off before anyone else, she is long winded.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | January 15, 2020 2:47 AM |
Does Sanders ever stick to the subject?
I have to admit that Amy is doing well tonight. I still don’t like her.
Pete and Joe are the only ones who don’t grate on me.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | January 15, 2020 2:47 AM |
Oh..Joe.....ugh.....
by Anonymous | reply 58 | January 15, 2020 2:47 AM |
Why are Amy’s eyebrows so misaligned? It seems like maybe she had Bell’s Palsy or perhaps a mild stroke at some point?
by Anonymous | reply 59 | January 15, 2020 2:47 AM |
Aren't asians yellow? Why don't they say Black, brown, yellow and red Americans? Sheesh - the silly pandering of white folks. Looks. Let me tell you.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | January 15, 2020 2:47 AM |
I thought so to0, R58... and I like Biden.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | January 15, 2020 2:48 AM |
Dip your chip in the helluva good every time they say “look”
by Anonymous | reply 63 | January 15, 2020 2:48 AM |
Amy is doing well?
by Anonymous | reply 64 | January 15, 2020 2:48 AM |
Something is all wrong with Amy’s face.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | January 15, 2020 2:48 AM |
Joe is mostly with it tonight. Not bad. He's no Warren, but he's not doing terribly tonight.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | January 15, 2020 2:48 AM |
lmfao Pete stans about to be TRIGGERED by this question
by Anonymous | reply 67 | January 15, 2020 2:49 AM |
R44 No single simple answer - Latinos, Hispanos, Hispanics, Mexican Americans, chicanos, pochos, raza, brown people... many terms that are embraced or resented by different groups at different times.
Personally, I like "people of color" more than "black and brown" - includes Asians, native peoples etc
by Anonymous | reply 68 | January 15, 2020 2:49 AM |
It's some sort shuffleboard loser hit him on the head with her stick, or even worse throw a shuffleboard piece at him?
by Anonymous | reply 69 | January 15, 2020 2:49 AM |
Black support? Why not "black brown and yellow support"?
by Anonymous | reply 70 | January 15, 2020 2:49 AM |
Glad to see Bernie not doing well in this.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | January 15, 2020 2:49 AM |
[quote]Why are Amy’s eyebrows so misaligned?
Her face is not symmetrical. She filled them in too much and she should use a lighter pencil to fill them so they won't be so distracting.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | January 15, 2020 2:49 AM |
I think Warren won this one tonight
by Anonymous | reply 73 | January 15, 2020 2:50 AM |
Also, her dad
by Anonymous | reply 74 | January 15, 2020 2:50 AM |
Why do blacks hate you Pete? Joy Reid says they hate you.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | January 15, 2020 2:50 AM |
I don’t think Asians feel they are yellow.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | January 15, 2020 2:50 AM |
Pete did not want that question. It's going to be a focus now in the post-analysis coverage
by Anonymous | reply 77 | January 15, 2020 2:50 AM |
I don't think Warren won, but she was the best performer. I don't think anybody won. It's too many debates, too much pointless performance from all of them. This horse race, knock out punch, I was that blathering candidate bullshit serves no one.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | January 15, 2020 2:51 AM |
Amer. Indians aren’t red. That is sunburn.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | January 15, 2020 2:51 AM |
There haven't been any breakout moments either positive or negative for most here. So far, the candidate you like is going to seem to be doing the best, and vice versa.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | January 15, 2020 2:51 AM |
So Pete was the only one who got the black question?
by Anonymous | reply 81 | January 15, 2020 2:51 AM |
[quote]When did we start using the category "black and brown Americans"
Joy Reid is fond of saying “black and brown people are being terrorized in this country by Mayor Pete Buttigieg.”
by Anonymous | reply 82 | January 15, 2020 2:51 AM |
“Red, brown, yellow, black, and white,
they are precious in his sight,
Jesus loves the little children on the world.”
A children’s hymn from my childhood which probably wouldn’t fly today
by Anonymous | reply 83 | January 15, 2020 2:51 AM |
Some of the people supporting me in South Bend are black, so that settles that.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | January 15, 2020 2:51 AM |
Liar, fraud, etc. BUT HES IN OFFICE!!!
How did that happen?
by Anonymous | reply 85 | January 15, 2020 2:51 AM |
I agree the term socialist will scare away a lot of moderate voters
the question remains is it better to try and get moderates or try and bring out voters who stayed home in 2016
by Anonymous | reply 86 | January 15, 2020 2:51 AM |
Do LatinX (the brown people, not the pumas) identify as "brown"? Sheesh
by Anonymous | reply 88 | January 15, 2020 2:51 AM |
r70, you are not good at your job. Please try whoring or fighting in Ukraine or grifting with Rudy Guiliani. This isn't for you.
by Anonymous | reply 89 | January 15, 2020 2:52 AM |
Pete handled that antagonistic question perfectly. The pundits will trash it probably because they hate Pete with a passion though.
They won't come out of Liz Warren's ass even for some air.
by Anonymous | reply 90 | January 15, 2020 2:52 AM |
Tom Steyer's dad was a law partner.
by Anonymous | reply 91 | January 15, 2020 2:52 AM |
Tom ain’t taking the bait!
by Anonymous | reply 92 | January 15, 2020 2:52 AM |
Everyone has had a good night except Bernie. The only thing the commentators will focus on is the woman president thing, and Warren completely owned him on it.
by Anonymous | reply 93 | January 15, 2020 2:52 AM |
Honestly, if I was Pete, I would have said - Well, apparently, I am a lying Motherfucker, so what are you gonna do?
by Anonymous | reply 94 | January 15, 2020 2:53 AM |
Tom just CAME for PETE!
by Anonymous | reply 95 | January 15, 2020 2:53 AM |
Warren won. It's not even close.
by Anonymous | reply 96 | January 15, 2020 2:53 AM |
Did Pete just have a real unrehearsed moment?!!!
by Anonymous | reply 97 | January 15, 2020 2:53 AM |
Joy-Ann Reid is an embarrassment to Harvard. On the level of Kushner.
by Anonymous | reply 98 | January 15, 2020 2:53 AM |
To hear Joe tell it, he's been years ahead on every issue imaginable. Introduced every pertinent bill; Obama let him have free reign on every policy point. He has been everywhere, man. Run Forrest, run
by Anonymous | reply 99 | January 15, 2020 2:54 AM |
R93 My sides.
by Anonymous | reply 100 | January 15, 2020 2:54 AM |
Amy gets triggered when Pete talks about being the midwestern candidate
by Anonymous | reply 101 | January 15, 2020 2:54 AM |
Yes Amy torch Trump
by Anonymous | reply 102 | January 15, 2020 2:54 AM |
Bernie did very well.
by Anonymous | reply 103 | January 15, 2020 2:54 AM |
My retirement depends on me being able to move my 401k money out of equities before it looks like any of them might win.
by Anonymous | reply 104 | January 15, 2020 2:54 AM |
Amy seems like a caricature of herself playing herself.
by Anonymous | reply 105 | January 15, 2020 2:54 AM |
R26, Well she got softballs all night and they let her talk for about half of the broadcast.
by Anonymous | reply 106 | January 15, 2020 2:54 AM |
Awww, Pete is saving Jesus. Actually, that is not a bad moment for him.
by Anonymous | reply 107 | January 15, 2020 2:55 AM |
Pete sounds like he's auditioning for "The Music Man"
by Anonymous | reply 108 | January 15, 2020 2:55 AM |
lol Amy mad everyone shit talks about the flyover states.
by Anonymous | reply 109 | January 15, 2020 2:55 AM |
Tony,
“Be they yellow, black, or white” is how we sung it up North.
by Anonymous | reply 110 | January 15, 2020 2:55 AM |
Is Amy appropriating black woman gestures?
by Anonymous | reply 111 | January 15, 2020 2:55 AM |
bye fugly pete. clown.
by Anonymous | reply 112 | January 15, 2020 2:56 AM |
Can Netflix develop a sitcom about Amy & her dad?
by Anonymous | reply 113 | January 15, 2020 2:56 AM |
Liz do not remind the people you used to be a Rethug!
by Anonymous | reply 114 | January 15, 2020 2:56 AM |
And sure, Look, the truth is, I was a Republican, like my brothers, sure, and I was Pocahontas, Look, sure, Let me tell you
by Anonymous | reply 115 | January 15, 2020 2:56 AM |
Joe won because he didn't screw up. He also seems the most presidential, the elder statesman. Trump won't debate, so no worry about Biden getting eaten alive.
That questions about Pete's lack of black support was cheap.
by Anonymous | reply 116 | January 15, 2020 2:57 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 118 | January 15, 2020 2:57 AM |
Liz laying it out and laying it down. She won this. So good.

by Anonymous | reply 125 | January 15, 2020 2:58 AM |
Drudge Report Poll saying Amy and Bernie won debate.
by Anonymous | reply 126 | January 15, 2020 2:58 AM |
Sorry Pete. Religion needs to fuck off from politics. We don’t need more of that nonsense
by Anonymous | reply 127 | January 15, 2020 2:58 AM |
Must have been a dull debate. Not even 1.5 threads. Bet it was the lowest rated yet too.
by Anonymous | reply 128 | January 15, 2020 2:59 AM |

Is it over?
by Anonymous | reply 131 | January 15, 2020 2:59 AM |
Joe does empathetic well. I think Joe IS empathetic. But over many decades, it has been a very mixed record, Joe. I don't know that you always walk the walk, guy.
by Anonymous | reply 132 | January 15, 2020 2:59 AM |
Pete totally owned that question with his answers about his military service and religion versus Trump's lack of both; Pete's finest moment of the night.
by Anonymous | reply 133 | January 15, 2020 2:59 AM |
Warren getting those softballs and hitting them out the park!
by Anonymous | reply 134 | January 15, 2020 3:00 AM |
Bernie did not win this debate.
I'm going to tell you. Look. This is it. Folks. The fact is they all came off OK enough.

Lol r123
by Anonymous | reply 136 | January 15, 2020 3:00 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 138 | January 15, 2020 3:01 AM |
Pete is a potentially decent guy. Pete is on the verge of empathy. I wonder if he actually goes out into poor communities and lives there for the next few years if he might be in an amazing candidate in 2024.
by Anonymous | reply 139 | January 15, 2020 3:01 AM |
just a poll here, who do you think could really trash Trump in a debate with insults but in a way that wouldn't turn off the public? You know some liberals aren't like us at DL. They don't like when Democrats "are too mean."
On the other hand we want someone who wouldn't start quivering when Trump started with his bully and insult tactics
by Anonymous | reply 140 | January 15, 2020 3:01 AM |
R104 - grimly true.
by Anonymous | reply 141 | January 15, 2020 3:01 AM |
[quote]That questions about Pete's lack of black support was cheap.
Pete's total lack of support from African-Americans is not a minor issue. He needs to have a new plan to address it, beyond what he has already laid out since that hasn't moved the needle at all.
by Anonymous | reply 142 | January 15, 2020 3:02 AM |
The black moderator is a cunt.
by Anonymous | reply 143 | January 15, 2020 3:02 AM |
Definitely Tom Steyer r140. Even though you all dislike him.
by Anonymous | reply 144 | January 15, 2020 3:03 AM |
Liz would piss him off just by being a woman, r140. I'm not sure who really has the kind of humor to appeal to his oafish base, but she could conceivably piss him off enough to say something really stupid. And after tonight, she doesn't seem the type to hold back.
by Anonymous | reply 145 | January 15, 2020 3:03 AM |
Yeah but she hot
by Anonymous | reply 146 | January 15, 2020 3:03 AM |

Is that a smoky eye Amy Desmond or did one of her staff finally clock her back?
by Anonymous | reply 148 | January 15, 2020 3:04 AM |
Why talk about Trump? Isn’t the audience mostly Dems?
by Anonymous | reply 149 | January 15, 2020 3:04 AM |
Apparently not that easy, Amy, you've got check your notes constantly. She ovah.
by Anonymous | reply 150 | January 15, 2020 3:04 AM |
Sanders & Warren's catch cry to EVERY question is EVIL CORPORATIONS!!
You everyday voter is more worried about their own day to day issues and throwing at them EVIL CORPORATIONS!! as the answer gets tiresome.
It's all ideological stuff for them two and may resonate with the left wing base, but the rest of the country's eyes just glaze over as they figure out how to pay the next bill.
by Anonymous | reply 151 | January 15, 2020 3:04 AM |
it drives me nuts when Liz goes on about Mamas and babies. Ugh, shut up.
by Anonymous | reply 152 | January 15, 2020 3:05 AM |
Hilly won the debates with Trump, She wasn't cowed. None fo these 6 would be intimidated in a debate with clown face.
by Anonymous | reply 153 | January 15, 2020 3:05 AM |
klobs, nobody is bringing shit together these days. accept it, move on.
by Anonymous | reply 154 | January 15, 2020 3:05 AM |
Warren did well. Biden didn’t crash and burn, he stumbles on his words often but he’ll say that’s because of the stuttering. Bernie gesticulates so much he looks like a marionette. Steyer was impressive at times but just because he’s an unknown. Pete didn’t fail but didn’t stand out either. Amy’s was clearly the weakest performance.
by Anonymous | reply 155 | January 15, 2020 3:05 AM |
Can we just stop for a second to appreciate that none of these people is deranged or a pathological liar?

by Anonymous | reply 221 | January 15, 2020 3:18 AM |
I didn’t see Bernie try a second time.
She brought something to his attention that she didn’t like. He then gave his viewpoint, then made a hand gesture that said “I said my piece, that is all”, and he turned and walked away. He wasn’t expecting her to be pissed about that something. Probably about their conversation and mixed remembrances.
by Anonymous | reply 222 | January 15, 2020 3:18 AM |
In his denying that he ever said that about a woman president, he looked at the camera and told the American people that Liz is a liar. I don't think she took that well.

Warren won tonight and she also has the only soundbite that the press will run. She brought her A game.
Sanders did well and I enjoy his sense of humor.
Biden stumbled as usual and continued to play up his experience. It's getting a bit tired but people will still buy it.
Mayor Pete, as someone else said, faded into the background. The other candidates wrote him off so he didn't have the chance go to on attack.
Amy tried but there was no one for her really to point her cannon at tonight so she failed.
Tom Steyer, if he means what he says, can use his own money and help people without running for President.

Biden is not at the top among white voters. It is only this advantage he has in polls with black voters that is propping him up to this FrontRunner status. Most of these Confederate states are open primaries with no Republican race, so he had better hope that there aren't an influx of crossover votes... for whatever reason.

R276, Trump is a formidable debate opponent because he’s just going to lie. It’s hard to prepare for that. Low information voters just blindly believe whatever he says, because they can’t believe anybody would lie to that extreme.
How do you defend yourself against lies? “My opponent is a serial killer who walks the streets at night looking for children to rape.”
“I spend my weekends at Mar-a-Lago healing the sick just like Jesus. I am the second coming of the Messiah.”
“My wife Melanie is like the Madonna. At night, she glows with holiness and I use her for a night light.”
How the hell do you debate that? How can you win against that?

by Anonymous | reply 296 | January 15, 2020 3:44 AM |
I don't think that Biden would be as concerned about the identity politics crowd in the general election. They're far, far more a factor in the primaries.
Speaking of Joe, I'm willing to wager a modest amount that if he can't come in first in Iowa, New Hampshire, or Nevada, black voters in South Carolina to some extent will start drifting away toward Bloomberg.

Stacey Abrams has practically been pre-selected as the VP candidate. She is beloved by the DNC and whoever runs with her will get a huge turnout from black voters which is so critical. They should just let her pick who she wants as POTUS so we can get this shit over with!

Stacey Abrams is not qualified and is not being vetted. I read she had some problems with unpaid taxes and other large personal bills she didn’t pay until last year. Republicans wanted to portray that as “she can’t handle a budget.”
That would blow up if she suddenly landed on a ticket with no previous vetting. It would be Sarah Palin 2.0., buying a pig in a poke.
Biden needs to pick someone that’s being vetted right now. An October surprise is the last thing we need.

If Russia ever had a culture of philanthropy, it was wrung-out during Soviet rule. All representatives of the state were corrupt. The state took from you and subsidized the rich and poor. Charity was run by the state, and personal philanthropy wasn’t needed, in theory. I think Communism destroyed philanthropy there.
Among the robber barons in 19th century in the US, were several religious men who became philanthropists. John D. Rockefeller, ruthless businessman, advised his family to make as much money as quickly as you can , then give it away as quickly as you can. Some of them competed for most prestigious charities. It’s a virtuous cycle. That’s trickled down to the rest of us, and the US is still more religious that the Russians and charitable as a result..

I agree completely. There is no reason that an all male ticket couldn’t win. This isn’t like a sampling of 1000 people, where you should expect diversity. This is just two people. It doesn’t have to be racially balanced and would be bizarre if it was.

CNN - Pete top winner & article comes from main headline on front page of Winners & Losers.
* Pete Buttigieg: The former South Bend, Indiana, mayor proved Tuesday night that he is the best debater in this field. But he also did something more important than that, too: In the first 30 minutes of the debate, Buttigieg showed a competency, steadiness and depth of knowledge coupled with personal experience that should help him pass the commander-in-chief test in the eyes of voters. He spoke forcefully and powerfully about his issues with President Donald Trump's approach to Iran and the need to go back to the drawing board on Congress authorizing the use of military force. It's also worth noting that despite Buttigieg's status as one of the top-tier candidates in the contest, he rarely seems to be on the receiving end of damaging attacks from his opponents.
BTW, Pete's haircut with the faded sides was a major improvement than the bushy sides he's had.

r359 she exposed racist voter suppression that is STILL going on the South, and she is actively working to end it and get more minorities to vote. That is absolutely critical work that the Democrats have to do to win local elections, not to mention Presidential elections.
Abrams is any of these candidate's dream running partner because she is already doing the work for them with minority and women voters, so they can focus on fighting Trump in battleground areas. They would only benefit from the momentum her movement already has.

This just in: Washington Post says-
Winners and losers from the Iowa Democratic debate
[quote] Losers: Pete Buttigieg: For arguably the first time on one of these debate stages, the former mayor of South Bend, Ind., was something of a bystander who didn’t really add much. He hit many of the same notes he has in previous debates, including by criticizing Medicare-for-all as being unrealistic and knocking a “Washington mentality.” He at one point emphasized the national debt and deficit — one wonders whether these are huge priorities for Democratic voters right now. Iowa is so important for Buttigieg, because it’s such a good constituency for him. He wasn’t bad Tuesday, but it may not help him address some of his arrested momentum.

I like Pete's policy on Iran which I think will play well with Republican-lites.
Also and this might have been mentioned already, have you noticed that when Warren gets called out, she starts pulling at the top of her hair. I think tonight, they were all pretty mellow. It was fairly subdued and there weren't any new topics. Let's see how it shakes out.

I personally think Hilary had the win up until the end, but Comey fucked her with that ambiguous investigation announcement a week before the election. I think anyone who was on the fence with her finally had it and swung the other way. It turned out to be a nothingburger about her assistant's husband. Why didn't Comey just say it was about Weiner and not Hillary instead of leaving everyone to wonder?

I think Biden won--not because he did any brilliant debating, but because he sailed through it without getting slammed. He clearly knew foreign policy better than anyone. If you want an end to Trump's craziness, Biden comes off as reassuring and sane.
Pete doesn't have the experience and he continues to not have the experience.
Steyer's a dilettante.
I like Amy K., but she's in the single digits and hasn't moved from that, so clearly there's a ceiling with her.
Bernie looks ill. One of these days, two major things need to be discussed regarding Bernie--1) his lack of accomplishment in public office--he's a major do-nothing and 2) that heart attack and the stats on longevity. Old guys who have heart attacks have radically reduced life expectancies--as in less than a full term in office. It's crazy he's running, but even crazier to think of supporting him over healthier candidates.
Long ago, I liked Warren, but I've found her wearisome for a while--she's seems flighty to me. I've no sense of how she thinks she'll pull all of this off. R410 I disagree with you on the old guys have less to live point. My job used to be in underwriting recording 65+ plus medical history. I was amazed at the amount of 75 year old people who admitted to heart attacks, stents, quadruple bypasses that took place a decade ago. Some of these people were really, really old, still beating away.
It was impressive. Obviously, I couldn't speak to the ones that died, but it's not always an absolute death sentence.

R412,
The statistics show otherwise:
About two-thirds of patients older than 65 who experience a myocardial infarction (MI) die within eight years, according to a new study—and nearly half die in that timeframe even if they receive percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) or coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery.
“From a healthcare perspective, these statistics are sobering,” lead author Ajar Kochar, MD, with Duke Clinical Research Institute, and colleagues wrote in the Journal of the American Heart Association. “These findings should lead to reflections on appropriate utilization and optimal dosing of secondary prevention therapies, along with revascularization when indicated for older patients with MI. Novel medication approaches to secondary prevention may be of particular interest to older patients with MI.”
The analysis contained almost 23,000 patients from the CRUSADE registry who were treated at 344 U.S. hospitals from 2004 to 2006. Patients were a median of 77 years old at baseline, 52.5 percent were male and 13.3 percent were nonwhite.
In the overall cohort, the median survival was 4.8 years, including 8.2 years for those aged 65 to 74 and 3.1 years for people over 75. Eight-year mortality rates were 65 percent overall, 49 percent for those undergoing PCI and 46 percent for CABG patients.
_____________________________________________________
Bernie's over 75--the median rate of survival for men his age who have had a heart attack is 3.1 years. The presidency is a high-stress job. So, yeah, I think Bernie dying on the job is a very real concern. Is it 100 percent likely? No. Is it way more likely for him than any other candidate? Yes.

She's a veteran, former pilot shot down in Iraq, lost both legs, and was so badass she had a baby at age 50 , first senator in history to give birth while in the senate. Biden-Duckworth is a great balance... and set her up to be the first Asian American President, beating Harris and Haley. This is going to be tight even if the Dems pick a viable option for the presidential nominee, let's assume Biden, because out in the real world he is the leader of the polling pack.
The VP selection cannot rock any boats. She or he must be seen to be competently experienced to take over from Biden after one term because he probably will only serve one. Identity politics aren't big enough to justify any candidates. I won't be Abrams. It probably won't be Pete. It won't be a consolation prize for failed aspirants in the current process. Somebody in the data room is slicing and dicing where they need to win what in order to take the White House. Feelings and twitter feeds and all that shit won't matter. That data will determine who the best nominee for VP is. There will be no American Idol foolishness about it. My money is on a governor or a long term member of the house or senate but I have no idea who it will be.

[quote]Buttigieg often talks about faith on the trail. But it's notable how often it comes up in conversation with his supporters here in Iowa. Just now in Tama County he said he was running to represent people of "every religion and no religion equally.” A woman audibly said, "Yes!"
That's also why he brought up the deficit - because Iowans keep asking him about it on the campaign trail. Much more than impeachment, which they barely mention. The next debate is in New Hampshire and the responses will be again tailored more to NH voters.

[quote]Sen. Sanders made a major unforced error and reminded us that math is, well, hard. Sanders attempted to correct Warren's claim that she was the only person onstage in the last 30 years to beat an incumbent. After all, the Vermont senator bragged, he'd only beaten one in 1990. Then, everyone awkwardly waited while the two senators, one who graduated from the University of Chicago, and the other who taught at Harvard, tried to compute the difference between 1990 and 2020. Both seemed puzzled and the bit went on longer than an Abbott and Costello routine.

Biden isn't considering a Republican for VP. He was asked a hypothetical and he said yes, hypothetically, but no such Republican existed.
Joe's not sleepwalking to the nomination. He has been able to answer every policy question and clearly understands foreign policy better than any of them. He neatly sidestepped a direct question about reparations in the last debate and has avoided making enemies of the followers of all the other candidates. He doesn't get into it with any of them because he's thinking longterm--he wants everyone to vote for him in November. No, it doesn't make him exciting, but he doesn't need to be exciting. He needs to be nice Uncle Joe, who's trusted to be a sane leader of the country.
Biden's said he'll choose a woman VP--and I think he'll choose very carefully--in part because of his age. However, unlike Bernie, there haven't been serious red flags with his health. His aneurysm was back in 1988, so he's well past the increased-risk period.
Sanders' isn't.
Biden does have a stutter and you do see him compensate for it (the famous gaffes) in the debates, but Trump is such a mess at this point and the numbers are so baked in that I don't think the debates will be key this election.

This was all before his heart attack, BTW.

I’ve seen Elizabeth Warren try to be aggressive to three people. With Orange, he shut her down on Twitter pretty quickly, and she’s never tried again. With Buttigieg, she tried with the wine cave big donors and everything came out about her wine cave and big donors, and she hasn’t tried it again. With Bernie, she tried a said/she said—with a FRIEND—and we don’t know yet how it will turn out, but I suspect this will fail too.
She doesn’t seem good at this.
The thing about Iowa caucuses is that once the first round is done and no one’s got to 15%, you want to pick up other people’s supporters. I think with her going after Bernie, she lost more of that potential than she gained.
Biden and Buttigieg played it very well for the mechanics of Iowa. Bernie was immutable Bernie and will not come in first. But then will in New Hampshire.
by Anonymous | reply 481 | January 16, 2020 5:16 AM |
There's no point in responding directly to the President.
The wine cave incident DID hurt Mayor Pete and she wasn't the only one going after him for it. Amy and Bernie also did as well.
She did nail Sanders pretty hard with her response. Planned or not she got him and most people aren't on Twitter or here. We'll see how that plays with voters later.
And I really don't think anyone has any clue what will happen in Iowa or better put:
[quote]Both Selzer and Monmouth find around 40% have firmly made up their minds, but 45% in the Selzer poll say they “could be persuaded” and 13% haven’t made a choice. The comparable Monmouth numbers are 52% still “open” and 5% with no choice yet.

R482 Yeah, "wine cave" pretty much took the air out of Pete's rise. In retrospect, if he doesn't win Iowa and/or NH, his candidacy will be done and historians will point to "wine cave" as the cock block moment. So, just on the facts, it's wrong to say "Warren isn't good in attack mode." Women do need to be careful not invoke the sexist "oh, she's so shrill, she's such a harridan" (like eskimos and snow, we have so many words for "women not knowing their place") - just like black people can't ever, ever appear "angry."

I saw a story about Warren having her own wine cave event last time she ran for Senate, and apparently the wine cave owner issued a limited series of bottles with Warren’s name on them as a souvenir.
That really put me off her. For one thing, the whole idea that a guy without the national name recognition of her and Bernie should be hamstringed when it comes to raising money, but she shouldn’t is hypocritical.
Secondly, Biden's raising money from big donors and not a peep. Why? This whole “punch down to win” thing is vindictive, cowardly and low class. If I want a President that throws people under the bus to win, I’ve got one right now.

I'm not interested in whether Bernie thought Americans were ready to elect a woman for president in 2016. I *am* interested in health care, human rights, the gap between the wealthy and everyone who is not; housing, immigration, etc. But here's Liz campaigning - "Bernie offended me in 2016."

They didn't attack Biden for it (who would also take that money) because even when he has private fundraisers he invites the press and releases lists of who attended.
