Game of Thrones Gossip: The Sequel

A number of sphincters have clearly been twitching on both Gwendoline Christie’s and NCW’s teams thanks to the blind items that have been circulating over the past couple of months. Fairly obvious that’s led to Ms Gwendoline’s pap walk with her ’beau’ today, where she’s been told to look deliriously happy and he’s not got the memo. Call me an old-fashioned elder gay, but it’s always bothered the fuck out of me when a man walks in front of a woman like he’s trying to sprint away from her. They barely look like they know each other, let alone like they’re together.

Also, what’s the deal with her sunglasses? It’s fucking freezing in NYC.

R4 Usually I’d agree that CDAN isn’t exactly reliable, but the GoT-related blinds have often been spot on. Enty was calling out Kit’s drink problem and the fact he was fucking everything with a pulse behind Rose’s back long before he was photographed naked and passed out by that Russian hooker. I seem to remember him hinting at Madden’s predilection for visiting male prostitutes when he was filming abroad. That was way before he effectively outed himself as bi too.

In light of this, got to admit that Peet being someone Enty relies on for gossip at awards shows, and who’s been the source of all the GoT gossip over the years, is pretty plausible.

In case anyone didn't see it (it's in the old now subscriber only GoT cast gossip thread), here are the very recent CDAN items on Nikolaj/Gwen that came out a week apart--the most recent earlier this week:

#3 - The foreign born three named actor who was most recently seen on that long running pay cable show sleeps with his co-star from that show as often as he can sneak away from his wife or when she is not in LA.

The married foreign born three named A-/B+ list mostly television actor has taken his affair with his foreign born former co-star from London to Los Angeles. The pair were spotted together in LA this weekend.

The comments in Enty's board in reference to the latter item (which was universally guessed to be Nikolaj/Gwen were pretty funny. Someone claimed they've been at it on and off since 2014. What? Of course, there were those who claimed it can't be-they're both so loyal and in love with their partners. Oh lord.

Seriously, what is the deal with Gwen and her "partner?" Is she his beard? Or vice versa?

Those photos of Gwendoline and Giles Deacon are from December. She's in LA right now and will be presenting at the SAG Awards.

BTW, the first January CDAN item on Nikolaj/Gwen came out when he was in London for the Leeds game and she was still there. Then the most recent one in which Nikolaj was photographed in LA on Saturday and Gwen was attending the Critics Choice Awards on Sunday.

CDAN's most recent item on Rose/Kit/Emilia was that Rose took back Kit primarily because neither wanted to be alone for the holidays and that things between Kit and Emilia are on ice right now.

Oh for god's sake, CDAN has ANOTHER item that I'm pretty sure is about Gwen/Nikolaj and Gwen's "partner." She and Deacon were recently shot coming out of some restaurant in LA where everyone who wants to be photographed goes. Here it is:

Blind Item #9 This foreign born B+ list mostly television actress is most well known for that now defunct pay cable series. Recently she has been in this space because of some indiscretions with a married co-star from that same show. So, what does she do? For the first time ever she called a pap to take her photo with her partner.

CDAN is a bullshit artist, who is perfectly capable of picking gossip off of the web, from people like the one guy here who's obsessed with NCW and GC. He loves to print fan Hater bullshit about the wives of hot actors and musicians, his insight into "GoT" actors is hardly likely to be more reliable.

And don't defend that asshole! He prints the worst rubbish, if he gets something right, it's because a stopped clock is right twice a day.

CDAN is hit or miss. Sometimes, his items are laughably false, like the Golden Globes item that was supposed to be about how someone punched Joaquin Phoenix in the gut in a fight following the awards. Uh-huh. If that had really happened, there is NO way that it wouldn't have leaked out in the news. No way. The falseness of that item was beyond irritating.

But his items about Epstein, Weinstein, all those Hollywood pedophiles have been on the mark and this was long before the MeToo movement. He also has been surprisingly correct about affairs and couples that have gone kaput (long before they made it official).

It's a blind item board and blind items are usually a mix of fiction, partial truth, absolute truth (leaked by a disgruntled ex-employee or another actor) or PR planted items. I think Blind Gossip is a little more creditable. I fed several items to Ace. I never fed an item to CDAN although I'm toying with one item that involves a dear deceased friend of mine and a celebrity predator.

Blind Gossip aggregates their items from other blog sites. They seldom have their own 'exclusives' and when they do, they're typically lame as fuck and easily guessed because they lift the 'clues' right out of the headlines.

CDAN takes a lot of shit on this site, but he's been right so often I have to give it the benefit of the doubt when I read his blinds. For instance, he outed the whole Lemonade backstory long before Beyonce dropped the tea on her album.

That being said, I don't believe the Emilia and Kit blinds.

I don't believe the Kit/Emilia/Rose blinds anymore either. Its just retread to get traffic. There are some hysterical women on the internet who insist that Emilia and Kit are in love and belong together. It's disturbing. R22 There's plenty of source material for a series about The Long Night, but House Of The Dragon also has an entire fucking book full of Targaryen mythology. I also think they went with House because people are already familiar with the Targs through the GOT show, but they barely touched on the pre-Wall days in the show. Also the massive Daenerys fan club.

I never really liked the Daenerys part of Game Of Thrones. I always found it odd that George would decide to include a plot about a character who is framed as heroic for trying to restore a dynasty according to the rightful line of succession in a story that is about how evil dynasties and lines of succession are.

Keep in mind he's only written up to about season four. His last book was written in 2011, almost a decade ago.

This is why I have no huge pull to read the books, his prose annoying to me notwithstanding. I've only made it to the third novel but it feel so repetitive, and when you come across changes from the show, it doesn't really add anything to the story for me. Honestly, there are still only a handful of characters that I even enjoy reading: Jon, Bran, Arya, and sometimes Tyrion. But knowing they are not likely to be finished, I feel no urgency to revisit. I've watched the series enough times now that the ideas presented don't feel the need for embellishment.

I'm another who was never really sold on Dany's heroism, either. She showed her ruthlessness early on. Honestly, it was the humanism of Ser Jorah who kept me invested in that storyline.

I've never thought of Dany as ruthless, I've just never thought of her as a hero. She's a character hellbent on restoring her family line to the throne. Frankly the only difference I see between her and the Lannisters is that the Lannisters are smarter than she is. She's not really a villain to me, she's just not this harbinger of social change the fandom seems to think she is. She's no different than any other king or queen competing for the throne.

True, R31, I agree with that, as well. Her "I'm going to break the wheel" only ever felt like self-aggrandizement. She'd only made a mess of things in Mereen. Why did she think she'd suddenly become capable and make these huge changes from the seat of Westeros? She had some crowd-pleasing moments but I never saw her as a potential just and good ruler of the 7 kingdoms. She was always too bent on vengeance. When I say she was ruthless, I think of moments like the leaders of Yunkai coming to visit her in her tent, the way she threw meat at the dragons clustered around her intentionally to scare him and show her dominance. Jon would never pull a move like that. Tyrion was right in that she needed him to stay her hand when her bloodlust got in the way, but then she stopped listening to him entirely when his plans didn't work.

What a shame that the showrunners and HBO destroyed the franchise with the atrocious final season. This franchise was raring and ready to go but the debacle of the final season put an end to that. Will anyone care when/if "House of Dragon" debuts in two long years?

Sorry, I was thinking the same thing but the HotD talk and R31 got me going. I don't think I'll bother to watch any spin-off from the show. I don't view the final season as a travesty and can still enjoy the show for what it had become.

But anyway, wonder how Lena Headey is faring? She seems to be moving into directing and I think her short film was nominated for a BAFTA? Maybe she'll be able to chill. Anyway, I think NCW's career will fade. Dinklage will always have work. Of the main cast, I still see Harington and possibly Sophie as having the biggest careers from here on out. Maisie is just not that versatile. Gwendoline is a character actress. Madden has already been off the show long enough that his career boon is more to do with Bodyguard than anything from GoT. He was in 1917 for 5 minutes. Wonder what that was about.

He wasn't alone in that. Every character who wasn't Dean-Charles Chapman or George MacKay were just cameos. Tony nominee and Olivier Award winner Jamie Parker's had five lines as MacKay's character walked past.

Oh, Danerys, was ruthless from season 1, where she had the witch-priestess who killed her husband tied to the funeral pyre and burned alive. But she was never bloodthirsty or particularly cruel, she didn't enjoy watching the suffering of others, she just did what was necessary to achieve her goals and perform what she saw as her duty.

That's what was scary about her, the fact that although she didn't enjoy seeing or causing suffering (she loathed the gladiatorial fights of Mereen), but she went ahead and caused suffering and killed thousands because she thought it was her duty to do so. She thought it was her duty to conquer the city of Slaver's Bay just to make a springboard for her reconquest of Westeros, she thought that crucifying the Masters of Mereen was part of her duty to see justice done, she thought that burning the Khals alive and becoming the god-queen of the Dothraki was part of her duty to the Targaryan clan.

Now, is there anything scarier than an intelligent and ruthless person, who's bent on ignoring their natural human feelings and relentlessly doing their Duty-with-a-capital-D? It really is a shame that the show didn't explore that idea, because someone remorselessly dutiful is rather scarier than someone batshit crazy.

Interesting how Michelle Fairley basically divorced herself from GoT after her character got killed off. She didn't go to that NYC premiere last year where many actors who had been killed off such as Sean Bean and Mark Addy, attended. She doesn't do the Cons. I don't blame her. She did speak to EW last year about the Red Wedding. Madden and Chaplin were also interviewed about it.

Maybe she's sore that D&D cut out Mrs. Stoneheart. Did she want to play a vengeful zombie? Or maybe she was grateful to out of the craziness. She's a veteran working actress and probably wanted to move on.

I saw "1917" and was very surprised at how significant Tommen's role was.

R37, I read a comment from Fairley which implied she was disappointed about not getting to do the Lady Stoneheart story, but ultimately accepting and not bitter about it. She seemed very invested in Caitlyn and her relationship with her family; on the blu ray commentary for The Rains of Castamere she cries at the end, very sincerely, and it was touching to see hear how much she cared about it.

In retrospect, they should have included Lady Stoneheart. It couldn’t have been worse than where the show ended up.

I'm glad they cut out Lady Stoneheart, the only thing leaving her out affects is it leaves out some depth to the Jamie/Brienne storyline. GRRM pretty much only introduced her in the books because fans were pissed about the Red Wedding, that and so he could find a way to bring Jon back after the mutiny. Let the Starks stay dead, the story had to move on.

The change from prequel beyond the Wall to House of the Dragon probably had to do with two things:

1) People tuned in for the dragons. IMO Drogon was an excellent CGI actor. No one really cared abt ice zombies. And, Arya killing the Night King reduced their formidability as threats.

2) There may have been contractual issues with D&D and the prequel, not their being showrunners but perhaps a % of shows based on the books related to ASOIAF.

I'm curious as to how much HBO will pour into this series. Everyone said that the reason we didn't have Ghost and dragons the majority of the time is because the CGI was too expensive.

The CGI for just three dragons (two most of the time) was already ridiculously expensive. How are they going to handle covering the Dance of The Dragons period, which had almost fifty dragons, most of whom were brought into battle against each other? The CGI for one battle scene alone is probably going to be more expensive than anything GOT ever did.

I think I've read that the wolf CGI was more expensive than the three dragons'--that since dragons are not real, they could take more liberties and make them appear believe. Wolves are real animals, so they take more fine-tuning to appear real.

I guess I'm the only one who didn't give a toss about the dragons. I thought their CGI was fine. I didn't read the books if that's a factor.

R47 The dragons aren't really described differently in the books. I blame it on GRRM not being a very descriptive writer. He's always been better with the big picture of the plot rather than the details that help you visualize it.

I heard somewhere that the Long Night prequel was axed because it wasn't "sexy" enough. Now the word "sexy" can have a lot of different meanings in that context, maybe it refers to the kind of actual sex and nudity that were all over the first few years of the show, maybe it refers to how many battles and explosions and monsters they could cram in to make things exciting.

Either way, "House of Dragons" is going to have all the sex and incest and battles and dragons and fireballs that anyone could want, even Old Valeria being destroyed volcanoes if they get the budget for it.

The only thing I can think of for Dinklage's win was that SAG voters were tired of Sterling K. Brown who has won one before, Harbour didn't deserve it and Carell and Crudup played unlikeable characters so they just went with Dinklage, the lesser of the evils. Season 8 was a nothing season for him.

I think you're putting way too much stock on the CDAN items and their importance. I think many read it for its entertaining fictitious elements and then try to guess who they might be referring to. Yes, some are correct--many are not. The Joaquin Phoenix items, for instance, are outrageously untrue. He simply doesn't like Joaquin and will throw all sorts of shit against a wall to see if any of them stick. Enty had one item in which he said Joaquin treated the press like shit after he won the Golden Globes. Joaquin's interview in the Golden Globes press room is on YouTube. What happened is that a reporter asked Joaquin a question about his preparation for Joker, which every reporter has been asking him since he began doing press for "Joker." He said (without nastiness) that he's been answering that same question for months but he answered. He also got apologetic about it and then asked the press how they were doing. Have they had anything to eat? I've been a reporter in several awards press rooms and I've yet to hear talent asking us any of them when we were working. I thought that was sweet. Enty is so wrong about him.

CDAN has a recurring item where he basically suggests that Joaquin was incestuously involved with his sister. HA! That certainly hasn't prevented Joaquin from doing family interviews/photogs with said sister and his family members. But then, he's either unaware of them or doesn't care (most likely).

I like to know who's planting these items. The same person who planted that Emmy Awards item about how Nikolaj had wished his wife had stayed home at a pre-Emmys party so he could be free to bask in the spotlight and hit on women. That was nasty--like somebody really has it in for him. And it's purely based on someone's subjective opinion.

The CDAN blind from years ago about him refusing to do the casting couch might have a grain of truth to it, but I’ve never believed Nikolaj’s a saint. Around the same time that the friend of the crew member was dishing the dirt, there was someone else claiming that his team were working overtime to keep speculation that his marriage was a mess out of the Danish press. Apparently, his wife would happily move back to Greenland and have a relatively obscure career, while he’s fairly desperate to continue working in LA. The fact he bought a house in WeHo without even telling her first speaks volumes. As does him starting his production company. Aside from where he puts his cock, I don’t really see how that’s a surmountable problem.

FWIW, I think the blind items are an irrelevance. I’ve got eyes and can see how measured Gwendoline and Nikolaj are around each other in public... until they’re not. Gwen and Alfie are close friends. Gwen and Nikolaj, I don’t think so. Doubt it’s just a fling either.

Gwen wears a lot of baggy things because she's "fat" by the standards of the fashion industry. Yes, she's in with all the fashionistas and looks fabulous in everything because she has Real Style with capital letters, but they don't want to put her in anything remotely body-con. So, she gets all the loose or flowing or baggy or weirdly structured stuff they want to put on the red carpet, because she doesn't have their idea of a proper model's figure.

She's not fat, not by a long shot. She's tall and lean and a bit soft, instead of toned flat and starved into emaciation like a model.

My guess is Gwen's height and the shit she gets for it has given her body dysmorphia, which is why she prefers the baggy, form-hiding clothing.

It's really odd that she's very affectionate towards the rest GOT cast, including the men, but keeps a safe distance with Nikolaj when in public - well, considering we all know they're still close IRL (didn't leave each other's side while shooting GOT, he wrote a play and casted her as his wife, they both went to a BDSM play together, he was the first person to congratulate her when she was nominated for the Emmys, etc). I was actually wondering if Gwen was pregnant, too. Even the outfit she wore at the Critics Choice Awards (which was beautiful), had plenty of room in the waist that could conceal a pregnancy. She used to wear form-fitting dresses and gowns but lately, her clothes are so baggy you can fit in the entire cast of G0T in it.

But sure, his wife and GC are best friends, they go to the movies together, everything is perfect and Nikolaj is definitely a saint because he speaks fondly about his family on camera.

I do think there’s more going on than just the blind items. They were probably papped together looking a bit too cosy, and got blackmailed by the photographer. It happens all the time in LA. Paps don’t always ask for money directly either. If they think they can squeeze more cash out of selling other photos, they’ll arrange for the celeb to do a pap walk. I believe she was a student who knew someone who worked on the show so she had a direct insider contact. I found her information somewhat believable. Yes, she did talk a lot about the Kit/Emilia/Rose triangle but that's only because everyone kept asking her about it. She also talked about the others. About NCW, she said he was a big flirt (we know that) but not a cheater. She also said earlier in the thread when the show was in one of the earlier threads that NCW could be an asshole at times. He was generally a very nice person but he could snap. I believe that too.

I think she also said that Nathalie Emmanuel (Missandei) had a crush on Kit and had some sort of flirtation with him but didn't pursue anything further because she didn't want to a potentially uncomfortable with Emilia with whom she worked on a regular basis.

Another person on a different GoT gossip thread said that about five or six years ago, NCW was having problems with his marriage, he hated the writing for Jaime (this was Season 4 and on), was dissatisfied with where his career was, etc. This was when he fired his manager.

About NCW's marriage--my sense is that his wife is a shy, introverted type who seems uncomfortable attending these big, splashy events. (Yes, I know she's an actress, too, but there are quite a few actors who have a similar personality type and seem uncomfortable attending high-profile events, I present Joaquin Phoenix as a great example). I'm guessing she didn't want GoT because she doesn't care for that genre and she might have found NCW's character storyline to be way too distasteful for her. Who can blame her for that!?

My mother used to tell me that very often problems occur in a marriage when someone gets very successful and the other spouse doesn't "grow" with the other. I think that might have happened to NCW's marriage and people have referred to that in this thread. He broke out with GoT and wanted to move to LA, go more global while she wants to stay in her smaller corner of the universe. Of course, problems would abound from that.

But they're still together so maybe those differences were resolved. Who knows.

About Nikolaj being an asshole, there have been stories. I remember reading about a couple of fans approaching him after he did that play with Gwen, and him being really rude with them and just walking off. Actually, I seem to remember Mr Deacon being in some financial trouble a few years back. One of his companies went bust and he ended up screwing over a number of suppliers. I love gossip as much as the next queen, but I work in theatre (the actor from my last play is in the Seagull with Emilia Clark) and I can’t count how many times fans have caused hassle for me or my partner or friends because they’ve obsessively over analysed something on social media, for example tracking what celebs are liking or not liking on Twitter, when most celebs have no idea that is even viewable.

For example my friend accidentally liked a tweet from some stalker fan who’d said nasty shit about his girlfriend, and she took it as validation that he appreciated her attention and was sending her a message. But it was just an accident.

I saw Kristen Scott-Thomas play that role on Broadway and Meryl Streep in a very strange and misguided production in Central Park (that was directed by all people, Mike Nichols). In the latter, Philip Seymour Hoffman played Treplev and Natalie Portman played Nina.

Emilia is playing Nina and Indira Arkadina. A friend of mine who is not so well known is playing Masha. I’m not 100% sold on Emilia as an actress but will be interesting to see what she does with Nina.

She's going to be savaged by the London critics. Nina is a very difficult role. I can see her doing well in the early part when Nina is young, innocent and full of romantic yearning but the latter party, when she's broken down, could be a challenge for Emilia.

Nikolaj was going to a London Comic Con on his wife's birthday. The comic was cancelled and yet he went to LA, didn't go back to Denmark to be with his family and didn't even bother posting anything to her on social media. She instead spent her birthday with their 2 children and friends.
